I found out from a Japanese recipe channel that you can also use them to cool your food down fast. I use it when I'm meal prepping and I need food to cool quickly so I can freeze it. I love my defrost plate!
Those defrosting plates used to be very popular in the United States. But they had a problem with building up bacteria which is why they're hard to find here now.
Love that pan. I've got a kitchen table setup similar to that and we found that putting the bench side near the wall lets us push the table back easier when we need more room, since we more rarely use the bench over the chairs.
Chani! Your kitchen is looking so aesthetic. Also, you are THE poster girl for an exciting humble adventurous fulfilling life post kids-leaving-home. Thank you for showing us what's possible!! So inspired.
Thanks! I’m so enjoying all your videos having only discovered you in the last few days stuck home sick but you have been a highlight! I was born in Tokyo 68 years ago. I was able to return once on a week’s holiday back in 1968 but it wasn’t enough. ❤
Really enjoying your 50 something solo life journey! Very relatable for a fellow 50+ solo woman who still enjoys changes, challenges and life; unlike so much social media! Loving so many of these cool gadgets! Wishing my local Geelong $2 shop had more Japanese gadgets rather than the cheapy knockoff stuff they stock. Loving the change in alignment of the kitchen table, but I would put bench along wall and chairs pulling out into room.
The defrosting plate is genius! Also love the divided pan for breakfast. You’ve done a great job with the kitchen. It would be fun to learn Japanese. Maybe when I have more time.
The pan to fry the items separately was my favorite. The ice melting on the defrost plate is a puzzle to me. Even though Miss Millie has a Dr's degree, she wasn't able to explain how it works 😂
The defrosting plate is awesome! I love your idea of motivation to clean the kitchen, and few new gadgets! Will try it! Have a wonderful holiday season with your family.

I like them all I'm always amazed at the gadgets over there and sometimes I don't know what they're for , Millie is doing something really cute at the end she's so adorable 🥰
Some gadgets are really useful! I’m moving to Japan next year and I will definitely pass that shop you showed😮 however, for all things food related, I do not buy plastic materials (it is extremely toxic for your health, and even that silicon spatula is loosing micro plastics in your food), metal and wood are a much better option
When I saw that oil bottle with brush, I just had to have it! Ordered it from Amazon and it's coming in two days! Thank you, Chani!! I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and New Year!!🎄🥂🥳
3:47 I would put the bench against the wall and leave the chairs on the outside. That way, most of the time you could keep the table all the way flush against the wall, just pulling out the table when time to eat. I, personally, would prefer to sit on a chair rather than the bench so having them on the outside of the table will make them more convenient to use when alone, and it will be more floor space in the kitchen. Also when pulling out the chairs, someone might ding the wall. Added benefit, is that those using the bench have a wall to lean against as a backrest. I’m also not sure that it should be in that direction. I think you have limited space to get through the area between the table, the bench corner (or is that white thing a garbage can?), and the exterior door, to get to the refrigerator. But you’ll know better after living with it for a few days, especially when you’re not dining or using the kitchen alone.
I really enjoyed this. Awesome gadgets especially the defrosting plate! Ive never seen one of those before. Walking around looking at the lights is a really relaxing way to spend an evening.
The defrosting plate is definitely handy. I was thinking of investing in the new year. It's so annoying when I forget to take something out for myself in the morning. I don't like to buy liner products personally as it makes me feel guilty for the environment if it's plastic. No judgement at all it's probably just me. I liked the magnets for the side of the fridge too! Another thing I would definitely consider as I'm limited with kitchen space. I'm 45 and Ive lived alone for nearly two years now since my only daughter moved out with my grandson. I have two cat companions. I really admire you for upping sticks and changing your life.
Millie making biscuits is so cute. I love everything except the cutting board. No plastics when slicing food, Chani. You'd better use a stainless steel board. It's a saver for you. It's so good that you go with a friend to see the lighting and falling leaves.
@@Tvianne Those who use knives with very thin/slicey geometries at sushi restaurants cut on rubber cutting boards. I believe any metal baking pan or cookie sheet works as a defrosting pan. You can line them with parchment or tin foil to keep sanitary. The Japanese have some really cool things I wish we had in the US. I particularly like the bubble wrap for windows to keep out the cold and the filters for air ducts. If you are cold long johns are great, along with fingerless gloves or mittens worn inside. I don't know if they ship to Japan, but ordering from the US, Canada, or other colder countries will get you the warmest clothes and bedding. For instance, winter coats and down comforters sold in stores in California won't be as warm as ones sold in cold Minnesota.
Chani, please provide more information on the tea you drink and/or about the different teas Japanese drink and why. I see many drink tea in place of water or soda. Thanks.
Millie appears to be related to that beautiful couch. Love all your "doo-dats" - your kitchen is perfect. Christmas lights look glorious - enjoy every moment with your family.
I got this little battery-op whisk from Daisou that's become invaluable in our kitchen. We use it for coffee, gravy, mixing sauces amongst others. Honestly besides the hand vacuum and toaster/oven hybrid microwave it's the best purchase in the last year.
I like the pan best since I recently got rid of my cooker and only have a single portable induction cooktop. I honestly don't use it that often as I have an instant pot and an oven style airfryer besides my microwave. I cook both rice and pasta in my microwave - it's very easy and it comes out perfect. I tend to just cook omelettes and stirfrys on my induction cooktop. I do a lot of batch cooking in the instant pot and freeze it in single portions then reheat and steam my veggies in the microwave. It means I usually have dinner ready in 15 mins at the most and as a single person I save money on both food and power usage. ❤
My favorite was the olive oil cup with attached brush. We are slowly learning to believe what you’ve told us - that sweet Millie can be a destructo cat!
I love all the new kitchen gadgets as it makes one excited to use them and do a chore at the same time. I love Millie so much she’s a kitty with beautiful cattitude ❤❤❤ don’t forget to clean the toaster ☺️ have a fabulous break with the family. You put your kitchen table exactly where I would have suggested you to place it. The only difference I would make is put the bench seating against the wall and leave the 2 chairs on the other side. This will make it easier to get out of the chair without hitting the back wall. I loved Millie supervising you washing dishes. I could feel her judging you by her flicking her tail.
When I was in Japan last month we went to a homeware store, there were so many interesting different things for the kitchen i brought a few things but I could have got more. I brought one of those small drink bottles you have it’s a great size i use it all the time, I wish I had brought the next size up it keeps the drink so cool. Millie is so cute

I would recommend swapping the bench and chairs. The bench is more efficient against a wall where they can lean against the wall if they want. The chair backs can’t push right against the wall, pushing the table further into the room.
You can also push the table up against the wall with the bench underneath when it’s not in use, and pull it away when you need the seating for four. Just my two cents.
Oh, they think of everything, great gadgets. South East Asians are masters of convenience, they make mundane things so easy, I absolutely love that...And your video, too! Great topic.

My Esme is the same. So I understand. Sending lots of love to you two. Just a thought you might consider a round wooden folding table it might be more flexible in the space. I have one in my kitchen when it's just my family. One of the flaps is down and it goes against the wall nicely. If I have more people coming, pull the table away from the wall, lift the other flap, and we can sit at least another 3 people. I am looking forward to your next adventure.@ChaniJapan
This vlog popped up in my feed. That cooking pan with the individual sections is very cool! I have officially subscribed and am now binge watching your videos. Greetings from Richmond, Virginia, USA!
I loved the style of everything from 3 coins also. The colours are perfect. Your kitty is so adorable. Loved how you bought the phone clip for them to watch their fish program lol Loved the drink bottle also. It's the perfect size for a bag. I wonder if they ship to Australia. I will have to check. Thanks for showing us your life.
Love the video. I can relate to buying things to help motivate me to clean a particular area in my home. I love all the little things you bought too! My cats do the same thing as yours did on the couch. LOL! Happy Holidays!
Love your videos, they are so interesting. By the way, I used to work for a firm repairing fridges, washing machines, etc. I was told to never jam the fridge up against a wall or corner, but to leave a gap. Also to never put anything on the sides of the fridge, but to keep clear. I asked why and was told because the fridge needs to "breathe". Just telling you this for what it's worth. You might want to check with a refrigeration mechanic yourself.

I got some scrubbing gloves at Daiso that I love. They are silicone and have tiny whiskers on them, perfect for doing dirty dishes or general cleaning that you need some agitation but don't want to get it all over your hands. I even have a set for detailing my truck!

Wow! You packed so much into this video, Chani! Both of your meals looked delish. I also enjoyed seeing all the 3 Coin and other purchases you made. I love the pan with the different compartments. Also, the special cover for the cutting board when you are cutting poultry or meat. I have a board I just use for chicken, but I'll have to see if I can find what you have here in the US. The defrosting plate is a great idea too. Lovely to see the fall leaves as it inches even closer to winter. Beautiful Christmas decorations too in Wakayama. ♥♥♥

I’d love a table like that! I think it would work in the space.
I'm early. WooHoo!!!! ありがとう! ^^
👋❤️
I liked this multi-pan a lot. Very handy, I would say.
Really handy ❤️
Loved this video. I just ordered my hob protectors and silicone sponge. Brilliant ideas. Thank you .
😊💐
Wonderful! ❤️
It's so hot and humid in Brisbane at the moment, enjoy the cold. 🎉 I like the knife holder under the sink.
Oh yuck hot and humid🫠. The knife holder is really clever❤️
This vlog popped up in my feed. That cooking pan with the individual sections is very cool! I have officially subscribed and am now binge watching your videos. Greetings from Richmond, Virginia, USA!
I love that pan too! It's so handy 😊 Thanks for joining❤️
Lovely Christmas vibe in Wakayama! Great gadgets and sweet Millie on her furry glamour watching fish videos...best way to start my day. Thank you 😍
Blanket not glamour...hmmm spellchecker
Glad you enjoyed the Christmas vibe! ❤️😽🎄
Will definitely check out the street lighting when i travel through near the end of January 👍🇦🇺
Enjoy your travels! 😊
Happy Holidays to you too! 🎄
That's really good to know, thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the video
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Milli❤, quiero abrazos 😅.
My favourite is lámina de 3 unidades para poner sobre la cocina, y el protector en el desagüe del fregadero 😊
Y todo lo demás 😅.
Adoré the street, calles, con luces beautifull ❤
Abrazos 🤗 cuídense ❤❤❤
Millie sends you a virtual hug 🤗
I got some scrubbing gloves at Daiso that I love. They are silicone and have tiny whiskers on them, perfect for doing dirty dishes or general cleaning that you need some agitation but don't want to get it all over your hands. I even have a set for detailing my truck!
Those sound super handy!
Really enjoy your vlogs, just subscribed 🎉🫰🏼😊. Just fascinating….really enjoyed the keeping warm vid, wish they had store like that in the US, for New England weather. Loved all the kitchen gadgets. More life vlogs please 🌟🎄🌲😀
Yay! I'm so happy to have you join the channel! ❤️
Discovered 3 Coins on our last trip to Japan! Just not enough space in the suitcase for everything I wanted. I also discovered 'Standard'. I thought I was walking into Muji, but it had a lot of kitchen stuff as well! Probably one of new fav. stores in Japan!
Standard is great! I love the kitchen stuff they have
❤❤❤😂 Thank you! :)
❤️
Silicon scrubber and the dish soap dispenser!
I used to live in the Gulf where there was a Daiso store. Fifteen years on I still have some of my purchases from there. 👍🏼
I think you’ll really love the silicone scrubber! 😊
I love your channel. So informative. You did an amazing job in your kitchen. Wishing you, your family and Millie a lovely Christmas. Cheers from Vero Beach, Florida. ❤
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words. 😊 Happy Holidays to you too! ❤️
Excellent episode..I will definitely have to get the defrosting plate and the Japanese pan. Never knew you could cook 3 items in a pan. Love to Millie.❤❤❤
Millie says hi👋 I think you’ll love the pan and the defrosting plate. Really awesome and convenient for the kitchen.
You are so welcome! I love this time of year ❤️
