everything you see on this show they built it all Nassau town the ships they built everything. so when there on the ships there doing what pirates had to do back then and they have big water pipes to spray the actors with to make it look real their discomfort when sailing is real.

Oh you can def tell it's a passion project for the entire cast and crew. Ironically GoT was also a passion project initially and I think it shows. I don't think anything will ever top binging those first 4 seasons of GoT for me personally, but this is my third watch of Black Sails and it's even better than the first two times!
You will love this show!! Is so underrated! I hope more people start to watch it because you are watching it. This is one of the best shows ever. Love from Chile 🇨🇱
Steven already praising this show to no end gives me life. Most of season 1 is just the introduction to the characters the story and the world and only build up for what’s to come. Arguably the real story doesn’t even start until midway through season 2 and if we’re getting these kinds of reactions this early on I am SO in for the next 30-ish weeks of this.
One of the rare shows that actually does get better with each episode, and never stops doing that until the end. Of course that's thanks to the fact it doesn't stay its welcome. They had a story and told it within 38 episodes, and that was that. Would I have loved more? Of course, but it probably would not have been as good as what we got within just those 38 episodes.
@@Ebosan87 after season three they had plans for another two but only got the funding for one more, somehow they still managed to wrap up everything so well anyway!
@@anguspate6510 Yes and no. Yes, the initial pitch for the show was for 5 seasons, unless you are a big name, no studio will look at you unless you have 5 seasons planned out, because that's what networks want. Even if they cancel it after a season, they still want you to have an outline ready for 5 seasons before they even agree to listen to your pitch. Black Sails was no different. Because of the scale of the production scheduling was crucial and the only thing keeping and already very expensive show from going over budget. So by the time they finished filming season 2 and began writing season 3, they knew season 4 would be it, so they adjusted accordingly and thus things turned out as well as they did. Because remember, in order to stay on schedule and release a new season every year in January (which they did), by the time we saw that season on TV, the next one was already filming and had been for months down in South Africa. So it's not that the story actually needed 5 seasons, it's just how it was initially planned. Of course I'm sure they had scenes they were forced to cut, but that happens with everything.
The writers on this show are the biggest stars. The character development, story line, dialogue are all top notch. I never notice the writing, but I did in this series.
This show will get better and better each seasons right now there just introducing characters and all but when u get to the point and all that it’s one of the best shows ever
I continue to be excited watching you guys react to this show - the characters are so strong and well written, the arcs are fantastic, the plot and episodes get better and better, and in general it’s such an under-appreciated gem. Also appreciate the care and attention you guys have with noting character interactions and moments - makes for such interesting conversation and love hearing you try and piece together what is actually happening with all of them (especially your questions and ideas about Flint and Mrs. Barlow). This show is completely the definition of “a story unfold[ing]”, and definitely benefits from a thoughtful and attentive watch.
This show never disappoints. It's such a pity that not many people watched it, because it's absolutely one of the most interesting, well written and wonderfully acted shows out there.
I love this show and the fact 1 of my favourite reaction channels are beginning to get the same feelings for the story and understand characters halfway through season 1 make me so excited for what is to come.

"Harry Potter went all in on biting someone's neck" hahaha you guys crack me up! I love how into this show people get once they really give it a chance. I've seen other shows take seasons to get done what this one has done in 5 episodes.
Hey just so you know ....Bear McCreary does all of the music...he also did the Music for The Walking Dead....from time to time you will absolutely hear the similarities
You guys should watch the behind the scenes interview after the series is done. They built a full scale replica of the ship to film in, and it created one of the most captivating sea chase and fights scenes I have ever seen on TV ever. Especially in the later seasons, it was mad good. Oh and shout out to the composer Bear as well. The music gives all the mood u need to make the series come to life.

Actually Captain Bryson mentioned one episode ago to Mr Guthrie that he was planning to unload his slaves in Nassau, but then he saw an english ship (The Scarborough) on the harbor and he knew Mr Guthrie was in trouble. Then we didn't hear the rest of the conversation. So we were already told about the slaves, but the story is always so packed, you forget about it later 😃
I know I already said this earlier...but this is hands down one of the best shows of all time. It 100 % deserves to be on the pedestal with Game of Thrones and all the other epics. And it just keeps building and building. Max is in a hellish scenario. Its truly awful. I honestly forgot the full scope of the brutality and suffering she experiences. Captain Hornigolds perspective though is that Vane is well respected around town, even without a ship or crew, and he finds the personal element to Eleanor's business decisions untenable in a future business and consortium partner. He wants her to put aside her personal feelings for the greater business venture. He wants to put her to the test. He wants to see if she is willing to sacrifice her personal ideals and morality (however well reasoned or badly reasoned the decision to ban Vane was) and humble herself in pursuit of a goal he and the other captains can all get behind. Yeah Harry Potter First time Vampire was pretty graphic. But it was so well shot. You could easily tell how scared he was and how desperate he was to survive. The kill or be killed element of battle took over and he responded to that primal need for survival. Even Billy was shocked but Billy is clearly a great fighter, and just a big dude in general, and likely hasn't ever needed to resort to that. Flint was hesitant somewhat if his plans would work....but damn did it go well, thanks to that stellar sniper. What an amazing plan. What a cool scene using an empty helm to turn the ship. Mr. Da Groot was doubting everything but Flint got there again. Lucky Jack spinning things to his advantage. Anne real badass with that anecdote but the cold merciful death she though would fall upon Max...well.....that isn't what happened to Max at all. You can tell she feels horrible about it. Poor Mr. Scot. Great episode guys. Cant wait for more!!!

Eleanor is one of the best characters in the series so glad you like her. People forget everything she's done so far is to help Flint and her dream by extension be a reality. Her dad is garbage and at the moment so is Vane so she does what she needs to in order to survive among lawless men.
As much as I like Eleanor for all the reasons above, it cannot be denied that she is bidding on the losing horse whose plan is to fight both the British and Spanish empires for as long as he can. Her father sees what suicide that is and moves against it. Rebels make good stories but they die at the end.
I have definitely watched too many Dark reactions recently, but one thing is certainly applicable here (re your intro about Flint and his possible motives or what is even going on with him/them): What you know is a drop. What you don´t know is an ocean. So cool that it´s already intriguing to you! It really is so rewarding in the end once you know more about certain characters *vagues*.
Best moment yet = 21:27-30 "Holy Shit!!!!" "I'm not calling him Harry Potter...Oh shit!!!" Great reaction guys. Glad you loved it. Yeah its a superbly done episode with the intense music, the sounds and confusion and strife of battle and the whole pursuit. Its sweet that they capture the ship but its not even over yet AND they don't know about Mr. Scot and all the slaves below.
“He's acting this way... because of something.” Aren't they all. I mean... well adjusted people don't generally become pirates! But in all seriousness I love how fleshed out the characters are and how they all have a reason to act the way they do (even if I don't necessarily always agree with they reasoning) and how they reveal those reasons bit by bit. This series as a whole just has such good storytelling that it’s pleasure to watch. I also love how exited you are already this early on and it'll just get better!
Season 1 is considered the worst season. Not because it's bad, but because each season improves dramatically. Glad yal are into it, you're in for a real treat.
And the show hasn't even gotten to the really good stuff yet, LOL! Although, season 1 is still fantastic. Some of my favorite scenes are in season 1, in these first five episodes. You two have great reactions to this. I found your channel through searching for Black Sails reactions, but I'll check out more of your stuff after.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Miranda and Flint.... I really need to shut up because there *is* .... something there but it's .... *slightly* way much more complicated...😂 Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
That is definitely how they calculated speed back then. That's why nautical speed is called "knots" - they were literal knots on a rope. Also, Steven, Barlow's husband wasn't killed by Flint. Eleanor's dad cited rumors that he died in an asylum.
I think it’s really great that Steven picked up that what Silver said about guilt was not true. Says more about Silver than anything. The character work on this show is good and I hope you guys stick with it even though the views on these compared to your other vids aren’t comparable. If you’re this invested in the season people think is the “bad” one then you’re in for a ride!
to your comment about calculating knots: that really is how they did it! i'm so glad you guys are enjoying it. to me, s1 is the weakest season, but sets up so much for the entire events of the series. you guys have great insights about how decisions are far reaching and effect the characters further down the line- this show has wonderful development and constant throughline of actions and decisions having consequences. can't wait for the next one!
Not that this lets him off the hook for what he did, but as far as Vane and the Max situation - these captains are pretty much at the mercy of their crews. They have to act as though they are all powerful, but if they go against their crew too hard then they’ll just endlessly have their authority challenged. You can’t be fighting your own crew members to the death on a constant basis or it’s utter chaos. They kind of have to pick their battles.
I hope The show "Spartacus" from the Starz network makes it to your stream. It's really good if you liked Game of Thrones battles it was the first show to do battles..💡👍
yes Steven.. this is a really good.. after Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul I dont remember watching a show with such a masterful character development. not to mention the incredibly satisfying finale.. oh boy.. you guys are trully in for a ride
The norm for a show is that season 1 is good/great and then it gets boring/worse the next seasons. Black sails starts good and becomes better every season.
Most people didn't regularly bath , like once a month weather they need it or not soap was rare even rich people , trade with China much later changed that or people who had lived in the east middle east , or very rich people this is a cup of century's before plumbing even in England they are wearing wigs because of lice and that is the rice people , if they get blood or mud or something sure , the heat in the Bahamas was an extra factor . But even relatively recently it was less common today we bath around 7 times as much as people did 50 years ago alone
Yeah, need to start watching this 7 days a week on this. And on the Max/Vane situation, he couldn’t put her out himself. If he were to try and get her out himself and he got caught by his men, he’d be killed. Trust me, Vane is THE BEST!
I wonder how many fans of this show actually know that it's a prequel to Treasure Island. 😃 I think they should do a reaction to the Treasure Island from the 90's. The one staring Christian Bale, Christopher Lee and Charlton Heston.
That feeling you cant quite put to words is you unconsciously recognizing the amazing writing. Its very subtle but like you said, everything unfolds in such a way that when the pay off comes its an "oooohhh that makes sense" reaction rather than a "what?" If youre feeling the story this much in S1 just wait for the next 3. It genuinely gets better season to season, episode to episode. Criminally underrated/overlooked show.

Hey team your gonna love it love from New Zealand
28:50 oh, no, trust me... season 1 and 2? Very calm compared to 3 and 4
I hope The show "Spartacus" from the Starz network makes it to your stream. It's really good if you liked Game of Thrones battles it was the first show to do battles..💡👍
God I loved Spartacus
@@t-98 it was a Amazing show I would luv for them to start that series
yes Steven.. this is a really good.. after Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul I dont remember watching a show with such a masterful character development. not to mention the incredibly satisfying finale..
oh boy.. you guys are trully in for a ride
I just didn't realise...is Steve left handed? Good on you brother!
The norm for a show is that season 1 is good/great and then it gets boring/worse the next seasons. Black sails starts good and becomes better every season.
Halt & Catch Fire was that way too
Most people didn't regularly bath , like once a month weather they need it or not soap was rare even rich people , trade with China much later changed that or people who had lived in the east middle east , or very rich people this is a cup of century's before plumbing even in England they are wearing wigs because of lice and that is the rice people , if they get blood or mud or something sure , the heat in the Bahamas was an extra factor .
Jack is the best, and he only gets better.
Yes then air
Have you guys caught up on Anne Bonny and Calico Jack yet? xD
I was lucky to be able to binge this series last year! Vane has been my favorite since the start, Billy has been a close second.
Vane thinks what?? ok, we'll see.
I wonder how many fans of this show actually know that it's a prequel to Treasure Island. 😃
I think they should do a reaction to the Treasure Island from the 90's. The one staring Christian Bale, Christopher Lee and Charlton Heston.
Team Flint
the first half of season 1 was the slowest part of the series, from now on shit gets real
Stranger things season 4 teaser trailer came out guys!!
No brainer is exactly right
