You can do this with the HVTB in the car and without removing ANY components on the passenger side of the HVTB. On the driver's side of the HVTB is a bundle of wires in gray foam. Inside that bundle are two orange split conduits with a gray (+) and black (-) connector at the ends. Tap into those and save 2 hours of work.
I need to do this to get my car started. I went to the junkyard and picked up the big orange connector that plugs into the HV battery and left a foot or so of wire to it. Any reason I couldn't charge the HV battery by connecting the charger to the connector wires left on the plug?
My over head lights and vanity mirror lights are not turning on in my 2009 ford escape hybrid. I noticed they both get voltage from the “battery saver relay” in the wiring diagram but it doesn’t tell me which relay it is. Do you know if this relay can affect the hybrid battery?
Thank you for doing such a good video really helpful with this. Im wondering if there is anyway to charge without taking the battery apart. Im guessing the electronics might not let people do this.
Thank you. I wish there was an easier way but unfortunately the battery has to be removed as far as I know. Ford removed the charge button starting the year 2009.
@@junkyard-dogs The HVTB does NOT have to be removed. The two bolts securing the blue lifting straps can be removed with channel-locks. The two worst fasteners are on the side toward the front. Cut down a Torx bit to get at those. EVERY other fastener for the two lids is readily accessible.
in min 18:14 you're showing the charger. There are a bunch of them on Amazon, but this spec is not currently available. is that voltage and amperage very specific to this car or does it self-regulate and i can pickup pretty much any one of those chargers? also if I run it from a 240V plug in my garage will it charge a lot faster like it would an EV?
Thanks for the look inside of the battery. I wonder why Ford did not put a charging power plug on it. I suppose if you could plug it in at night, you may never buy gasoline again? I was just shopping for a cheap chariot since I was tired of walking to Walmart. One I saw reported the problem presented in your video. A no start situation. I will put that pos on the consideration list. My worst fear is the first curiosity check saw replacement batteries in the $3K range. Definately out of the question for a 17 year old puzzle box. Anyway, thanks for the look over the shoulder. The one other question that looms as I am about to go fix diner is the charger device. Would it not be feasible to wire it into that positive and Negative terminals coexistent with the original device reassembling so a pigtail is outside that you could connect the charger should the battery become depleted again without the removal part? Hmm. made myself a note to explore this further. If the Escape I saw advertised is not a rolling pigsty, I may be able to come up with the asking price.
Thank you for the video, it did help me to make a cable from the inside of the battery to the outside, so if it happens again in the future, i will have direct access. Can you please let me know the scanner part number that you are using

The 2009 model has 2 reset buttons for the big battery( both on the passenger side of the vehicle) one on the bottom right side of the passenger side and the second one in the back( by the lift compartment)

Was the owner getting the red triangle and a "stop safely now" alert to know the hybrid battery was the issue?

You absolutely can leave the HVTB in place.

Is it possible to connect alligator clips to the top of those two bolts to charge the battery?
It seems like the two bolts are insulated somehow and don't connect to the terminals so alligator clips on the bolts will not work.

I was thinking this also but it has to be safe
That battery only has the capacity to run the car a couple of miles at most.
Thank you Sir, An impressive approach. Regards
Can a battery tender or a snap on battery charger be used to charge the high voltage battery?
No, wrong voltage, don't even think about it.
WHat scan tool are you using to check the Drive Battery?
It's the Launch X431 tool.
Where to buy the charger?

I'm told that through 2007, there was a built in charger on the left side.

Sure, the scanner is Launch X431.
Thank you for the information, Someone was trying to sell me a replacement battery for $1200 and $100 to use the scan and reset the codes
Hey bro do you leave the fuse in while you charge the battery pack or do you keep it off I’m having this same issue
When charging, the fuse needs to be in. It should be in and turned in lock position.
The safety switch connects the 2 battery packs inside the battery so you will be able to see the total voltage from bottom and top battery banks
I tried it and it worked for a bit back to the same thing it’s dying on me
Did you ever get it started or just get rid of it? I have one a 2007 that doing the same thing and has the p0a1f code.
On a 07 there's a button to jump start and will also recharge the hybrid battery in rear,I just did the jump start process and no more code

How much would this normally cost to charge the hybrid battery ?
I would say 3 to 4 hours of labor.

I have the distinct impression that this is the first time you have ever performed this procedure.
