I appreciate the thought and skill that went into this project. I have all the components to do this, have not yet built it. Excellent presentation.
I wanted to go with a copper boiler but material cost drove me to steel :) The boiler for my combined heat and electricity assembly is a 3 cubic feet pressure vessel volume and is a water tube boiler, it has been pressure tested at 600 psi and I have a 250 psi relief valve on it. I run it on dead local wood. I like your project and your boiler, great job you did on it.
Could you make some drawings of how you made it ? I'm actually Lookin for a model of some sorts but the ones i found are not even rated above 60psi of working load with a safety release of 80 psi...and there's a guy who would sell me a 5hp twin so it would need those higher pressures..
That boiler is absolutely gorgeous.
For me photos are good but some explanation would be great.
Based on the labels from the lathe and some other clues, my guess is if it was narrated it would be in German
You've done a superb job on that one! I must get round to using all the large bore copper pipe I bought long ago for that exact purpose! I see you have basically the same lathe, mill and drill as I own, handy to note!
A masterful machinist at work, very nice.
this guy is good! started with enough materials for one, and ended up with two and a painted one! thats amazing ^^
but really that copper one is sick ^^ good job.
Thanks for posting this very nice sequence of photos. Very instructive, and a beautiful end result.
Are the plans available?
this is beautiful work.
thanks for sharing this video very informative I intend tomake one I have all the material needed but mine will be coal fired building one is a pleasure
ArenalesRailway
That's either a Gatling gun barrel or a uranium cage/container xD
Where's my shop equipment?! *Growls*
Beautiful!!!
The narration was very informative.
What are the fittings made of? Any fittings soldered into the boiler need to be made of bronze.
Brazed? You can braze just about anything to anything else right?
can you use oxyacetalene and silver alloy and braze it like on ac copper tubing? I ask because I was a ac tech and have the equipment to braze.
Yup
A bit of commentary would have helped.
I don't think he speaks English.
Who cares, it could have been a great video, but with just a bunch of pictures it's really a big disappointment.
Anything is better then nothing
Really nice build! - can you post a link to the plans for that boiler? I am almost finished building a beam engine that requires a similar boiler. Thank you, Jenny
You buy your copper from metal merchants. The Silver solder best for this is 42% or 45% silver for good flow & penetration. 35 % silver type is good where a good fillet is required. The The former types melt & flow at the same time. The latter melts but wont flow immediately until higher heat is reached. I recommend Alec Farmers book Model Locomotive Boiler making . He is an expert. Published by Alec F Farmer. Marston Green, Solihull, West Midlands, B37 7HT, U.K.
somebody help me what name is the part that we use to connect the boiler body to the equipment ?. Nipple or ? please help me
Beautiful :)
Very nice! How did you shape the flanges on the round piece of coppar at 2;00? I see some wood pattern at 1;55, did you shape it with a hammer around the pattern?
Yes a very good video but a little more detail would be good--eg making the ends for the boiler I assume you metal spun them on the lathe-it would have been good to see that..
But thanks for having a go and putting it on youtube---I could not do it because I do not own a camera and no expertise in camera work either..Perhaps in another video you could do the intricate parts that were not shown--I for one would be delighted to watch it..
Ian Craig Hi Ian, thank you. I finished this boiler 2 years ago, and unfortunately I haven't more pictures of details. David
He didn't turn it on a lathe he pressed it using wooden moulds
yamanote
Where do you source the big pipe from as I am struggling to find any
it would be nice to hrar what you were doing ond done so its easier to follow along
VERY NICE JOB
ARE THE PLANS AVAILABLE AND WHAT IS THE COST ?
What Angel Grinder do you use???
Did you hammer out that cap you show at 2:00? If you did, I'm impressed and would love to see you do that!
What do you recommend for cleaning off all the excess solder and polishing up, especially around corners and tight spaces? When making valves, how tight does the center rod has to be to prevent leaks? I know its suppose to be threaded. Do you use compression fittings where you connect the tubings to fittings?
I used 10% or 15% of Sulfuric Acid and 85% or 90% of water mixed in a recipient
tiredfingers99 You can use a sharpie pen to mask off where you don't want the solder to flow.
I'm sure there are even better masking methods, but the sharpie is an old slot car builder's trick.
no sound ,anyone have any idea how to get sound ?
Hello, I noticed that you made very fine boiler caps. Im just starting out and would love some insight on how you did this. Also, how thick of copper do you use for the end caps?
Thanks a bunch!
How much temperature of hot air is produced in this process ?
Audio engineer? Better than sky sports f1 for sure!
Just a quick Question could i have a copy of the plans for this boiler please
Cheers,
Mark
could anyone give me a hint in what industry this thickness of copper sheets are used? i got a hard time to find sheet material thicker than 1mm
i use 3mm thick copper but it is very expensive.
good
Looking good!
But next time as a video site (UA-cam) I would use a video or AT LEAST music / explanation ;)
think this would work for a 7.5" gauge one? this technique I mean
What's it cost to buy one of these ?
Paul Baker a leg and a virginty of thomas the wank engine;)
lots of uses for that COOPER tube :P
Nice build, I'm sure it was a lot of work. What type silver solders did you use?
hello sir
im a student of mechanical engineering last semester .
our group select a project of steam power plant. so if you give me some more detail about boiler like diagram, size , material .
i will very thank full to you
Where do you get all that copper?
hello mr's possible that you'll make a m for me? please. elongated boiler
where can I find the ceramic plate for the burner?
Hi Ashley, in ebay. Is easy to find this.
David
nice
Cool
Hello my name is Leo your your boiler is so good, I want to
built a live steam locomotive, I have disponible all metallic machine like lathe
and vertical drill ecc ecc to realize all pieces necessary, but I need
about project and construction plan. I think that to begin will be
sufficient realize a locomotive with not more of 3 axes. Now have you
disponible a project/power plan of construction ecc ecc for a locomotive
with 7 3/4" gauge that can be able to start for me??? Thank so much Leo
Hi, I write from Italy and I'm a beginner
where can I buy ceramics to make the burner?
I am following with interest your youtube channel
Ciao bueberix, sicuro puoi trovare questo in EBay senza probleme
Ciao Non riesco a trovarlo , ho cercato disperatamente ...Hello I can not find it, I tried desperately
Tu sei spagnolo ?
+burberix1 si, sonno spagnolo. Mi dispiace, io gli ho comprato in Ebay già tempo fa, forse 5 o 6 anni...
grazie , molto gentile .forse fra un anno mi trasferisco a Lanzarote o Gran Canaria
Hasta luego

I hope you're using a store-bought pressure relief valve. The phrase "catastrophic pressure vessel failure" comes to mind.
If you have the skills to make a boiler a safety valve is just an easy turning job, no need to buy anything.
Hy
buddist you tuber eh? cool beans,
No sound or narrative sucks.
