I'm hooked on these Remo drums too. I have the 16" Bahia buffalo drum, 16" Fiberskyn buffalo drum, and this week received the 18" x 8" Bahia frame drum. Eventually I will own at least one of each of their big bass gathering drums. They have two styles in the 22" x 21", as well as some other nice ones. They label some of them for "kids" but that's only because they are not tunable like their "adult" ones. I asked about a difference in quality for kids (lesser) and adults (better) and they said they are all the same quality, so made for adults despite the "kids" title. Good to know!

If you follow Layne Redmond's instructions, Kah is Earth (hand sticks) and Doum is Water (finger bounces off for a ring).

Exactly. Having studied with Layne, this video is mistaken. Kah stroke is Earth and Dum stroke is Water.

Hi, I can answer that for you. Hamza el Din, a Nubian drummer, shared the concept of the elements relating to the strokes of the frame drum, to Layne. I never thought of him as her teacher, though. Her teacher was Glen Velez, and they went on to perform together.

Hi, I can answer that. On the jingled frame which is the tambourine, air is ‘cha’. On the frame drum without jingles, air is a brush stroke, brushing the pads of your fingertips up and down on the drum head, making a shhhhh sound. Hope this helps!

I thought the video was cool, but I believe you changed the beat "WATER" to "EARTH". Just because the vibration of the EARTH element is static, and water suggests waves, precisely with the prolonged vibration beating.

Please state that you have deviated from Layne Redmond's teaching, as what you are teaching was not taught by her. She taught Kah as earth and Dum as water, as did Hamza el Din. All you need to say is that you are changing/adapting your understanding, but to state this is what Layne Redmond taught feels misleading. If she taught that to you, perhaps you could clarify this?
