Drums do have a spirit and almost every culture on earth enjoys their energy. You seem like very well-intentioned people, so just a suggestion- if you are not from a specific cultural background (in this case, Lakota) please don’t reference “honor beats” or the rhythmic patterns you played as Lakota. The rhythms you used work for you and give you power - that fact is a fine teaching and really all that’s needed and appropriate. Best wishes.

Ouch - I was with you until you started sharing about the non-animal skin drumhead. I’m old, and old-school and believe that the animal skin, the tree, the materials that build the drum, come from the circle of life that bring us all together.
However, my beliefs are old school, believing that all things come to an end and develop something new. You are the “new” . You believe in not harming animals to make a drum or maybe, I’m not sure, not cutting down trees to make a drum. Philosophically we’re in different places- but rhythmically we can still coexist and see what the world will hold. ✌🏾💕🙏🏾

Thank you so much. That was so healing. I broke out my frame drum and played along and got lost in the ayub. It was like hanging out with an old friend. My whole being feels cleansed. I haven't drummed for years. But many years ago I had the good fortune to study with Layne. I also have fond memories of coinciding with you, Christine at the Sacred Rhythm Lodge. My first percussion teacher was Norma Tenega. Women and drumming, healing ourselves and the world. Thanks for this and all that you share.

I love how no animals and trees were harmed during the making of these drums! It’s very important to respect our Mother Earth and its beings when we are on our own spiritual journey

I was wondering the same. Kinda not cool to take our culture and make money off it.
Most natives would not be okay with this.
