Legendary Jefferson Starship Drummer John Barbata Dies Aged 79

  • He first became well-known in the 1960’s and 1970’s for his involvement in the California rock scene. In 1966, he was invited to audition for the Byrds by Gene Clark, who suggested he join the band. Barbata began his career with the Byrds, performing on their hits "Happy Together", "She'd Rather Be with Me", and "You Showed me".
    The Byrds recruited Barbata to fill in for Dallas Taylor in 1969. His work can be heard on the band's live album "4 Way Street" and on Neil Young's and Graham Nash's solo albums.
