Good video! I was there a year ago when in Glasgow, I really like these old style Italian restaurants. Thought the fish and chips were excellent and the couple of guys behind the counter were so nice.
The battered Mars bar originated in Stonehaven at the Carron fish bar. A school kid asked if they would batter his Mars bar and they said yes we will try it. Then the battered Mars bar was born.
that was the Chippy i grew up on , dad used to take me every time i was in Glasgow yeah has went downhill a bit , i would recommend a west Coast Jaunt up to Oban and try the Fish and Chips there!!
Hopefully one day you'll come to the sunshine coast in Eastbourne. So many great places to visit and eat at. We have the glamorous langney shopping centre, which opened in '74 and the first shopping centre. Bannoffee pie was invented just outside Eastbourne too as well as a holiday home for Tommy Cooper.
I went to Glasgow twice when I was a lad many years ago. It rained on both occasions. I can see on your video it is still raining some 65 years later (I am now 76). Politics changes every day but in Glasgow the weather never changes. That is a comforting thought.
Alright Lee! Good to see you in Scotland…The best chippy in our area although slightly outside Glasgow is the Alhambra! It’s in Bellshill and the postcode is ML4 1DA. It has been beautifully renovated and their fish tea is the best about! Would be amazing to see you review it. Enjoy the rest of your time in the best country in Britain 😂 🏴
Thankyou for your comments......I came across your review by accident....and with trepidation I watched as I dreaded if you had caught us on a bad day. My brother and I cannot take responsibility for the weather ....but we are 100 percent responsible for the food.!...... While watching I noted that the plate of fish n chips looked well presented if a bit overwhelmed by the huge portion size........the temperature seemed correct......and your clear hd quality picture reveals clean product ie ....cooked in a well maintained pan with clean fat....so far ...so good! The fish looked tasty .....and everthing seemed in order....the only problem to me......was the obvious one from the start.....the portion was far too much! All in .....I think that i would have scored it more to 7 out of 10....than 6.....but i guess i am biased! I am the singer....though my brother Rico also sings with the most incredible baritone you could ever hope to hear. Please dont take this video too seriously....as I feel in all fairness ...the mood....the weather .. And the lack of hunger on the part of the critic all combined with our narural short comings to make our result worse than i could have wished. It would be apreciated that you all allow us the benifit of the doubt....and realise....we are all.....hopefully.....only human...and that your next visit will be a sunny day....when the fish has absolutely no bones at all........remember ...... all you people out there with allergies....our fish.....may contain ...fish!
I remember when I visited my sister in Linlithgow I visited a fish and chip shop there. One of my boys wanted a pizza and the other one wanted a meat pie. I was surprised when they put them in the oil.
Soon the gallowgate it is a auld chippy, used go there when I was a boy 50yrs ago.then get some welks at the loch dyne shop in the Barras.enjoy the banter in glesga lee.thought you would have got a deep fried mars bar supper.
Thought the curry sauce was a bowl of soup at first. And then I saw it was the colour and consistency of mustard. A pale reflection of the curry sauce you had in Blackpool the other day.
From another actual Glaswegian, who lived across the road from the V.D.'s as the locals call it. The quality of their food is decidedly average at their best. You gave a very fair review. I hope you tried other restaurants in Glasgow as we do have much better. I like your accent and appreciate you making the effort to visit our beautiful city. Sorry you got a bum steer, your lucky that's all you got at VD's. P.S. hope you checked you change!🤣
On no Lee, yes I agree it's nostalgic but having lived round the corner for 30years I never go in for the food! The chipp you want to visit and the best in Glasgow in my opinion was a 20 second walk up the street from where I saw you the other night. The Merchant it's called, next time mate, next time.
Hi Lee, can’t recommend fish and chip shops but as for Indian restaurants in Glasgow, I went to Glassy Central on Sauchiehall Street recently. It’s only been open for maybe a couple of years if that and you could easily walk past it. The food is not only exceptional value but absolutely sensational - and as a Brummie I’m very fussy about my Indian food and also think the stuff about Glasgow being the curry capital is a bit nonsensical. In Scotland, maybe. The owner of Glassy Central is an absolute gent and very interesting. It’s not just a restaurant but it’s a bar too or ‘desi pub’. Please go - you will love it!
This is a good wee gold mine. Across the road on the Gallowgate there is the Coronation Chippy that is a gold mine too. Can't beat Curry Sauce with a Fish Supper. 👍🏻
It was a very good travel blog today when you visited The oldest fish and chips shop valdoro in Glasgow chilling out and relaxing having your fish and chips / curry sauce lee
😊😊 You have been doing so great with the foodies on your journey going north To Glasgow looks like a good meal but the fish fell apart to fast into a big mess. I give it a 5.8 Thanks for sharing Lee😊😊😊😊😊
Decent sized portions including the curry sauce. My late wife and I always had curry sauce with our fish, chips and mushy peas from our local takeaway only chippy in the 80s and 90s. Both came in 250ml containers not the little pots that seem to be used nowadays.
My wife Sandra is from Glasgow and went to school just along the road and used to go to this Chippy at lunch time for a “poke” of chips . Big spoons in George Square that you walked away from btw ! H 👍🏻
Hi bud not sure if your still up there but a friend of ours took us for an incredible breakfast at Down the Hatch Port Edgar Marina, Queensferry, South Queensferry EH30 9SQ last time we was up also have other friends who turn out quality food at The Hawes Inn ( incredible view ) have a great week .
Good video Lee! Not sure if I’d try curry sauce for the fish & chips. Prefer tartar for the fish and chips by themselves. Look forward to your next one. 👍
Many years ago now (1990 to be precise) but I had really good fish & chips in Glasgow from a chippy around the corner from Buchanon Bus Station, just before getting the overnight coach to Birmingham. And yes, I had Irn Bru with them too! I've only ever had one battered Mars Bar, that was from Bennetts Chippy in Weymouth (well worth looking up if you're that way, btw!) last year! Loved it but they seem to be quite rare these days!
Hey Lee. Best Indian restaurant, Charcoals, 74 Trongate, Glasgow G1 5EP. Won loads of awards. The Manager Ali I'd an amazing guy too. You really dont want to miss this place 👍🏻 Also it is right beside where you did your final review of the fish & chips.
I live 40 odd miles away from Glasgow, not too far from Helensburgh, this (including Glasgow) is not a good place for fish 'n' chips, well not as far as I have seen in 40 years up here. If you are still in the land of Scottishness, I thoroughly recommend taking a trip in your milk float to Bridge of Allan, the Allan Water café is the best chippy/cafe I know in Scotland, absolutely fantastic and not too far away from Glasgow. Well worth a couple of hours trip from Glasgow. That meal looked typical Glasgow chippy, in the chippy's around here they say the fish is haddock but to me they always seem small & thin for haddock and don't taste very haddocky, I have always suspected they are using whiting but it is only a guess. I agree with your markings, I thought the ambience of that place was spoiled by the flourescent tubes nailed to the cieling but maybe that was just because of some of your camera angles!
Big joe from Glasgow here. I've been to plenty of places in the UK. But I think London and Glasgow have the best curries. Looking forward to your answer. CHEERS
The restaurant might be over 100 years old but it looked like the peas were as well. Too much pea and not enough mush. Bonus point for the generous bowl of curry sauce though.
Hi Lee, no it's not the best fish and chips in Glasgow. If you crossed the road over to the High Street and walked to the top, there you would find 'The Merchant Chippie'. A fantastic chip-shop. That's for next time mate. Cheers.
I'm from Glasgow lee and stay in Glasgow not far from where u filmed best Indian restraunt has got to be Deli darbour and my favourite chip shop has got to be pizza crolla just round the corner from were u where filming or there are 4 blue lagoons in the city center u can check out witch are chip shops nice to see you doing a vlog in my home city thanks 😎
Quintilianies in Larkhall it is a fantastic fish and chip shop carry out only and delivery 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 Billy Connolly said if you don’t like the Scottish weather just give it five minutes
Chicken Tikka masala was 'invented' in Glasgow allegedly. Forgot the name of the restaurant but the owner passed away last year. They also have a cookbook published for Princess Diana's charity Edit Ali Ahmed Aslam is his name restaurant called 'Shish Mahal' definitely have to review there Lee
Thats one of the things I don’t like about chippies… just about all of em sell soggy chips. This place seems to have avoided that problem with those nice golden crispy looking chips. I wonder if they would have stayed as crispy if they were wrapped up and ate at home . I really want a fish supper now.
If the fish and chips alone were £7.30 that's good value and they looked ok to me .... forget the peas ,curry and iron brew maybe a nice pot of tea... job done 😋
Be great if you could do a joint vlog with walk with me Tim ,two of my favourite vloggers on you tube, said he like to do a joint vlog with someone, doing a live now why don't you ask him lol 😆
i think I've told you before? but the best Chippy's in the country are in Liverpool! Byrnes in the north end in Walton and Chris's in Mossley Hill in the South end. Byrnes Stuart Road Walton. Chris's Rose lane Mossley hill. Serious you won't find 2 better chippy's
The 2 big ones in Scotland that always come up when we talk about the best Fish Supper is the one in Anstruther and the Wee Hurrie in Troon, would be an excellent idea if you could review both in the near future, I’ve never actually been to the Anstruther one but can confirm the Wee Hurrie is another level
The fact there was no interview or interaction with Rico the owner was a real let down, the guy would have sung opera numbers for you, one of the greatest men in Glasgow is our Rico!
For a Top Indian in glasgow you can try Dhabba or Dakhin in Merchant City, they are sister restaurants serving North Indian and South Indian authentic cuisine respectively.
Tried many fish & chips shops around the UK & Scotland including Wetherby Whaler, Anstruther, Fishworks Largs, Fishmarket Edinburgh but the best for me is the Wee Hurrie by the harbour in Troon. Fresh fish caught off the boat & cooked to order. Scampi is incredible. Watch for the seals in the harbour. Best Indian in Glasgow is definitely Obsession of India literally a 2 minute walk from todays review. Food is amazing & staff very friendly. Check out the Tripadvisor reviews.
The cafe is well worth a visit. The place has character, although it’s a tight squeeze, sitting at the table. Have ate in this cafe twice and the food has been okay. The owner is vey pleasant and helpful.
The peas looked like marrowfat peas and the oil was definitely dirty. These 2 things are are easily rectified and if it was, you'd be looking at 8 or 8.5
Took a leaf out of your book and went to an award winning chippy I used to go to this afternoon. Price was ok but quality has dropped off and batter was greasy which left an after taste. They looked similar to those you had in Glasgow and I agree with your rating. Next time I will go to Whitehead's in Hornsea. They won chippy of the year this year from the fish fryers association. Everytime I have been there they are spot on.
Looking at the left page, I was thinking that's cheap. Pie & chips under £6 , fish & chips just over £7. Then I looked on the right side ..... £1.20 for a spoonful of gravy??!!
Food looked very good, but the restaurant looked amazing, proper ' this is how it is, nothing fake here' Top class. A good 8/10 for me. I saw on the menu pizza and pizza crunch..? Is that battered pizza????
Hi there, another great video like always very interesting to watch. Do I enjoy all your content keep up the good work. One thing put me off if you find a bone in fish and chips it’s a big big no-no for me but another great video
I wasn't overly chuffed at this place, it looked a bit rough to me. The fish looked ok-ish and the chips were a nice golden brown colour but looked old, dry and not freshly fried, maybe they were the oldest chips in Glasgow. The peas didn't look that great either, not for me I'm affraid.
Moonlight Kitchen a Nepalese/ Indian in Falkirk you can get a 3 course lunch for under a tenner on a Friday and Saturday & amazing a la carte. Chez Jules in Edinburgh 3 course steak frites lunch for under £13 with a true French vibe . Both worth a visit to get away from the usual fish and chips. Ps the curry in this video looked like it had escaped from the reactors on one of the nuclear subs at Faslane- off putting but the fish looked good.
Unfortunately I couldn’t tell you the best fish & chips or curry in Glasgow as it’s been a long time since I lived there. Love the classic Scottish Italian cafe there are load’s like that in the west of Scotland. You should have had a local delicacy like pizza crunch or deep fried scotch pie. Irn Bru sells more in Scotland than Coca Cola does.
As soon as I saw it, I thought nooo the grease. The peas didn’t look good at all. It was rather thin fish too, which personally I never think comes out so well. When you cut the second bit, you replayed the same bit twice for that reason I thought, it pulled a little which means more grease than crunch and sign the oil wasn’t to temp when it went in. The place looked cool mind. The price was low I think, in comparison to take out fish here in Essex, but it’s never good when you have to leave so much on the plate x
Welcome to rainy Scotland. Looks like you brought some weather as today looks like the best day of the year. I don't think there is such a thing as a best Indian in Glasgow - if you ask 10 people they will likely all give you different answers.
he lee good to see you in glasgow my friend if get a chance go to swadish in merchant city for your indian top indian for food its not far from chippy you are in
never heard of curry sauce with fish and chips it must be a British thing as well as mushy peas .. as i live in Australia so i guess that is the reason ... we tend to go for gravy on chips and some even like chicken flavoured salt ( do not knock it until you try it ) an Aussie thing @ chicken salt .. i discovered your channel through Geoff Carter when you went to Spain recently and subscribed
Looked OKish but the chips didn't look brilliant. Once went in a chippy in Byers Road in the West End of Glasgow for a take out and asked for a Scotch Pie Supper (basically a Scotch Pie and Chips 'to go'). I was mortified when the guy got a Scotch Pie, placed it upside down on the fryer scoop and dunked it into the Deep Fat Fryer for a few minutes, then took it out, banged the scoop to shake the fat off and placed it on the warm shelf, again upside down, for the rest of the fat to drain off out of the hole in the top crust. He then put it in the tray with the chips, and added salt and vinegar. But I do have to admit, it was bloody tasty 🤣🤣 As for your meal, and given that the curry sauce looked like lentil soup, I'd go 5/10.
The big chap that ran the shop for years was a trained opera singer you'd walk past and he'd be belting it out for some auld dear sat eating her special fish
Good video! I was there a year ago when in Glasgow, I really like these old style Italian restaurants. Thought the fish and chips were excellent and the couple of guys behind the counter were so nice.

Chinese best is in dennyloan head, out towards Stirling. THE COTTON HOUSE.that’s our local well 5 miles away
Wee hurrie in Troon for freshest fish and you can watch seals in harbour. Take away only and always a massive queue
I totally agree with this, haven’t been in a few years but it’s on another level, even massive queues on a Sunday afternoon here!
Thought the curry sauce was a bowl of soup at first. And then I saw it was the colour and consistency of mustard. A pale reflection of the curry sauce you had in Blackpool the other day.

When I was a lad that place was a treat when we went to the barrars. I loved their fritters and steak pie. Glad to see it still on the go.

You should try The Blue Lagoon under Glasgow Central railway station. They used to be good when I lived there. Don't know whether they are now though.
Lee, I thought you’d ordered a soup starter there lad the size of that bowl of curry sauce! 🤣🤣
Decent sized portions including the curry sauce. My late wife and I always had curry sauce with our fish, chips and mushy peas from our local takeaway only chippy in the 80s and 90s. Both came in 250ml containers not the little pots that seem to be used nowadays.

Oh my word, please go to Mother India across from Kelvingrove Museum!!! So happy to see you in Glasgow Lee!
Curry sauce definitely belongs on fish and chips😊. But as a northerner gravy does too for me! Congratulations on 105k Lee, very very well deserved 😊
Super generous portion of curry sauce there 👍.
At first I thought it was a bowl of spiced parsnip soup 😆
You're not wrong! Huge portion of curry 'soup'. 😃
Great vlog as always Lee 🇮🇪

How big was the curry sauce thought you where having soup to start 😂
A few steps from where you were was the Merchant Chippie, way better in there than what you had!
The restaurant might be over 100 years old but it looked like the peas were as well. Too much pea and not enough mush. Bonus point for the generous bowl of curry sauce though.

Wait what? You lived in Hoboken for 12 years? This is in and of itself deserving of a full video Lee.
Love it Lee, when do we see you back on benidorm, absolutely love the benidorm content, definitely my favourites.
Quintilianies in Larkhall it is a fantastic fish and chip shop carry out only and delivery 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 Billy Connolly said if you don’t like the Scottish weather just give it five minutes
Lovely to see you here in Glasgow lee.Doesn’t always rain honest❤
Of course it doesn't always rain in Glasgow it also snows a lot as well lol
Chicken Tikka masala was 'invented' in Glasgow allegedly.
Forgot the name of the restaurant but the owner passed away last year. They also have a cookbook published for Princess Diana's charity
Edit
Ali Ahmed Aslam is his name restaurant called 'Shish Mahal' definitely have to review there Lee
The shish mahal
The blue lagoon in Glasgow is brilliant and there's a chippy in town called Kilmarnock, chip shop called wellbeck , out this world
It's a franchise mate and nothing to write home about
Blue Lagoons are wose chippies in Glasgow!
Thats one of the things I don’t like about chippies… just about all of em sell soggy chips. This place seems to have avoided that problem with those nice golden crispy looking chips.
I wonder if they would have stayed as crispy if they were wrapped up and ate at home .
I really want a fish supper now.
Hi Lee, fish and chips looked nice from my POV, marks 8/10. You should get a great curry in glasgow great to see you in Scotland again!
Merchant chippy just off the high street a few minutes away from Val Doro has always been one of the best
If the fish and chips alone were £7.30 that's good value and they looked ok to me .... forget the peas ,curry and iron brew maybe a nice pot of tea... job done 😋
The McMonagles Fish and Chip boat with a sail thru would be a cool video and they have very good Fish.
Mr Singhs is the best Indian
Had Curry sauce with Fish n Chips for first time recently at Papas in Blackpool.
Definite game changer.
Delicious.
You want to try the chippy bank in ulverston, that has a seating area
Great vlog again,I've just watched a live from someone called walk with me Tim just wondering if you have heard of him
Yes. He's a good bloke.
He said he wouldn't mind doing a joint vlog and your name came up half a dozen times by some of his followers 😉
I watch him sometimes. Excellent editing and camerawork. Spot on.
Be great if you could do a joint vlog with walk with me Tim ,two of my favourite vloggers on you tube, said he like to do a joint vlog with someone, doing a live now why don't you ask him lol 😆
The wee hurrie Troon is the best. Around 40 min drive from Glasgow. Got to try it!!
40 min drive and an hour wait
It’s worth the wait
Lee 👌 nice one honest review on the meal 👍👍
i think I've told you before? but the best Chippy's in the country are in Liverpool! Byrnes in the north end in Walton and Chris's in Mossley Hill in the South end. Byrnes Stuart Road Walton. Chris's Rose lane Mossley hill. Serious you won't find 2 better chippy's
In your opinion of course. In my opinion, the best chippies (note the plural) are around the East/North East.
Agreed, you need to go to the coast nothing in Glasgow competes those two are excellent, Oban would also be on my list
Lee has been in Anstruther already check out the previous videos he did. Can't remember what Chippy it was though only it was on or near the front.
tried the both of them and i think the wee one at the front of largs is better than both tbh, was fantastic when i got it
@@mckelly5916 I really enjoyed the one in Inveraray. When you go no food is lying on display in a cabinet because everything is cooked to order.
@@mckelly5916Good shout, I did try it for the first time last summer and it was indeed top level
Merchant Chippy is the best hands down in Glasgow. But the Wee Hurrie in Troon is unbeatable for fish and chips.
Bonnyton Cafe for take away.
The wee hurrie is well past its best. It was excellent a long time ago, not anymore though.
The fact there was no interview or interaction with Rico the owner was a real let down, the guy would have sung opera numbers for you, one of the greatest men in Glasgow is our Rico!
sorry but Gigi is the singer in the family
For a Top Indian in glasgow you can try Dhabba or Dakhin in Merchant City, they are sister restaurants serving North Indian and South Indian authentic cuisine respectively.
Not far from Edinburgh are you popping to Edinburgh this week, Lee
That curry sauce looked beautiful along with the fish and chips when you were in Blackpool 🥰 enjoy lee love the videos
Tried many fish & chips shops around the UK & Scotland including Wetherby Whaler, Anstruther, Fishworks Largs, Fishmarket Edinburgh but the best for me is the Wee Hurrie by the harbour in Troon. Not long been following your channel,
Have you tried the balti triangle in Birmingham?
Some cracking curries there.
Hey thanks. I did one there a few week back. 👍🏼
Luv Irn bru, discovered it in Gretna Green and drink it all over Scotland when I was there in 2021.
Gassy, indescribable pish. Prove me wrong, tell me what it tastes like. Don't even think about saying fruity, if you do, what fruits?
i do it everytime !!! the drool is running down the side of me mooth !!!!! Cheers Lee ....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes pizza crunch is a deep fried battered cheese and tomato pizza. You can have it without the batter and they just deep fry the pizza
@@maccate6868 Cheers for the info, who the hell would want it fried? 😅😅
Be interesting to see viewers comments on the best fish and chips and indian resturant as I might have to spend a few days up in Glasgow with my job,
They look gorgeous Lee 😊 love the Irn brew comment lol made in Scotland by Girders 😅 ❤Xxx
Love to have met you lee love your vlogs👌
the oldest chippie in glasgow is now closed down and it was on london road nexts to that barras
do you mean the Gallowgate just down from the sarry heed ? .
Hi there, another great video like always very interesting to watch. Do I enjoy all your content keep up the good work. One thing put me off if you find a bone in fish and chips it’s a big big no-no for me but another great video
Enjoyed your latest video however the Fish & Chips didn’t look the best suggest you try the Blue Lagoon Fish Bar Glasgow ❤
Congrats on 105k Lee 🥳
Thank you. 😎
Right in front of were you summed it all up theres an eaterie called Bucks Bar that is outstanding
You should try 'Corvi's' in Bo'ness next time you're in Scotland. Owned by the same The Corvi family. Same family who own Vald'oro!!
Anniesland Glasgow. Potato fritters and a fish supper. Lush, as you say!
Mother India across from the kelvin art gallery both are well worth a look enjoy my friend 🏴💙
I’m 30 miles down the coast from Glasgow and it didn’t rain here
So am I, but this might have been recorded a few days ago.
Hi Lee It does look like a shop in Hoboken lol the name sounds Italian even ! Take care
It does. Reminded me very much of Hoboken. :)
@@TheMacMaster Nunzio and Angelo from Hoboken would like to speak with you about an unsettled bill.
LOL
Would he wearing a kilt? Though
Imagine my horror when I found out that Irn Bru wasn't actually made from girders. Next up - deep fried Mars Bar...
If you didn't actually look inside that Tardis, then you can't be certain you won't find fish & chips in there as well.
The Shenaz is the best curry in Glasgow. You absolutely must start with their vegetable pakora. You will not regret it Lee 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The chicken tiika masala was invented in Glasgow I'm sure
@@grahamjohnson4702 he’s talking about chicken tikka masala, not chicken tikka! Different dishes
You've got to try Gold Star brown sauce with a chippy its the best and made in Glasgow.
Hi Lee I`d give it 7.5 based on what I see, curry sauce looked a bit thin though!
I thought the bowl 🥣 had soup 🍜 in it Lee Xx
They looked spot on to me the fis h n chips ,the weather didn't though ,not sure if the sun ever comes out in Scotland 🌧️
“Idiot girl, that’s coming oot your wages”. Mrs Carsmella. It’s the Karen Dunbar Show chippy.
