- Alright, so let’s get one thing out there before we begin: this review is produced for and by Watchfinder, a company owned by the same group that owns A. Lange & Söhne. You would say that makes it difficult for the words said here to be truly impartial, and you would be right. But let me assure you; these are my words, what I think, and I truly believe that the A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus is a watch worth having over the Patek Philippe Nautilus. Here’s why.

The Lange has one big benefit over the Nautilus and Oak. Till today no Rapper rapped this watch with diamonds.

Honestly, I couldn't spot a single imperfection in the Odysseus at that level of macro. Absolutely incredible!
The weld on the small seconds counterweight was done a little sloppily. That was it.

I appreciate the disclosure at the beginning, and even though I'm not the biggest fan of the nautilus design, the Lange looks to much like it was made for a leather strap, and not a Water Proof All Steel watch like the nautilus. It just isn't as distinctive and purposeful lookin.
The reason it begs for a leather strap is because that lug design is hot garbage

Yep, definitely needs a leather strap, but what a stunning watch the 'A Lange and Sohne' is. The links on the SS strap are clever though.
I absolutely love Lange’s design language across the board. I can appreciate the “big 3” and their contribution to the world of horology, but A. Lange & Sohne just does it for me.

Not sure if I'm missing something, but i absolutely love this watch and think its beautiful, not sure of the bracelet, but the watch itself is stunning.
I will also never be able to afford either of them but I would definitely agree with you! They is so many amazing features from the crown guard day/date quick set to the bracelet and clasp! I am truly impressed! What an amazing piece

A&S is something which is over reality yet something so familiar and cozy done with an exceptional perfection. Absolute.
I appreciate the disclosure. I think it actually shows that Watchfinder has been paying attention to their audience and I respect that.
As a generally very happy owner of an AP RO 15450, and having had a good time spent trying this watch on....
I didn’t really like the Odysseus at first but I would now swap the Royal Oak for the Odysseus in a heart beat.
Living with the general inconvenience of adjusting the bracelet of the RO, even in comparison to an old Rolex, just makes you very aware of the lack of practical design attention in such a high level watch.
The micro adjust bracelet to me, is the perfect tactile representation of a watch that has paid close attention to detail at every single stage of the design. It is spectacular.
I like round shapes. If I had to choose from the “big three”, I would take the overseas.
If I had to choose any sports watch, I would choose the odysseus

To be honest I want one right now... Such a gorgeous timepiece. It is different and I love it. Functional yet elegant. A very german watch. This perfection in detail. quickset for day and date. Functionality and aesthetic combined with pure quality. The only sad thing being that I will never own one because I am simply not in the financial situation to afford it.

There’s no doubt that Lange built an incredible sports watch that walks circles around the 5711, but it still just looks off to me. I’d take an Overseas 4500V over both.

What a masterpiece. What level of details. Astonishing.
The A Lange and Sohne Odysseus is a beautiful watch. the design of the watch is original, it doesn't look like a copy of the AP Royal Oak and PP Nautilus. I like the big date and day on the dial. I like the transparent case back.

What an absolutely stunning piece. The more I see of Lange, the more I want one.
Well, as Philippe Dufour, owner of a Datograph, said in an interview: "The germans are kicking us."
Two humble suggestions to the brilliant folks at ALS:
(1) At a quick glance, the bracelet links near the case appear irregular. The reason is that you have 4 or 5 different shapes of links grouped together, and the brain perceives this as a haphazard arrangement even though it isn't. A smidgen more uniformity in the bracelet would be very welcome.
(2) I think you did well to preserve the circular case instead of going square like PP or octagonal like AP. But perhaps you could add just a little flare to the LUGS (maybe a bit more angular, or more curvacious, or integrate them into the case seamlessly) and differentiate this piece from your usual dressy offerings?
Those are my issues too, like it's not bold enough to be comparable to the Nautilus, the Nautilus is a shock if you don't like it then you don't if you do you do, the Odysseus just look like another ALS that tried to be a little rugged a little sporty, but ended up somewhere in the middle as if it didn't know what it's trying to be.
A Lange is a different world all together... 👍
Im so Glad Lange made this finally, it can fight AP royal oak and PP nautilus, actually I would choose this any day from these wathes its classy sporty yet elegant, the only competitor which this watch has is the VC overseas.
I already want it more and I have never seen one before. I like Patek who doesn't but Lange makes the best watches of any major company.

My personal taste, I'd take an A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus over a Patek any day it was offered to me. A Lange watches are always finished impeccably, but my tastes run more towards the designs of A. Lange watches. But that's the great thing about horology, there are watches out there for every personal taste, and no one has to make an apology for owing and wearing what appeals to them!
I truly lust for an ALS, the (an) 1815 chief amongst them, but not this. I suppose if the funds were endless then maybe, but even then not sure this would be at the top of my expensive sports watch list.
I was super concerned when nothing dropped on Friday........but then this.....and the sly comment (Friday, Saturday....Sunday)! Brilliant!
This thing is absolutely gorgeous. Let Lange be Lange and they will never disappoint. People complaining about the aesthetics of this beauty are the same people that "don't really like jazz music" but "listen to Miles Davis."
I guess that people that like the aesthetics will buy one. I’m not a huge fan of it, it just looks like an A Lange, and it’s a bit too big. But for some it will be perfect. I don’t think your jazz music comment really makes much sense.

The quality of the Lange and sohne is from another dimension, no watch company comes close, not even car companies like Rolls Royce, Lange and sohne is absolutely stunning epic pieces of human at its best of the best.
I think that a bit closer rival would be Overseas when it comes to the shape alone, although I can see how the crown guards can be compared with the shape of Nautilus. Realistically, someone wanting a Nautilus would more likely be comparing it to the Royal Oak as both have somewhat similar shape and level of hype around them. I do agree with the fact that Odysseus is superior to all 3 when it comes to the level of details. It also strikes as a more modern and innovative choice. I would probably still prefer a Datagraph or Lange 1 when I'm at the point where I can afford one...
It needs a better bracelet. The face looks good but the lugs and bracelet seem frankenstiened on.

Problem is, the A. Lange und Söhne Odysseus is even harder to get from an AD..
I got mine by offering myself to the girl behind the counter at my AD. - In the watch hobby sometimes you have to sweeten the deal. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that some watches can only be had for love and money, but mostly just love.

I must say, you've got an extremely good copy of the watch. The engraving on the balance bridge is one of the most sophisticated variants I have seen, having so little empty space. It's even better looking than in the official photos.
Very interesting things are pointed out in this video. This watch is unique and interesting compared to the other high end sport steel watches.

The A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus is beautifully conceived, and crafted to a much higher level than the Patek Philippe Nautilus. But let's be honest - that was a sales pitch. Thing is, it wasn't necessary - I love looking at the Odysseus, and I'm not sure why the Nautilus is still being sold.
I love how A.Lange Söhne always prioritizes the original purpose of a watch. Provides the wearer easy to read time.
The fact that they made the guards functional is so German that it speaks to my soul like no other watch company. I can't afford the Lange 1 I lost for in this lifetime. But I now must have a German watch with a German caliber. I think there will be a Nomos neomatix in my future.

Between Nautilius and Odysseus - no brainer. Odysseus! I think I would have a bigger problem when on the Patek Philippe side was Aquanaut.
If even the higher shareholder of Lange fills it with compliments, we will believe in each one. Its simply unique and magnificiant.
I tried the leather vs non leather at a boutique, the leather / strap version is way better for this watch, but the blue dial is nice. Good if u can get it at retail/if you r already a prior als customer.
Unfortunately many so called watch enthusiasts criticized this watch immediately after launch. Similar to the Royal Oak and Nautilus, the critiques will likely give way to praise as this piece (and model family) continues to be admired and lusted after. Lange spent years developing this and it shows in the splendid details. An argument could be made about the bracelet width relative to case diameter, or the link pattern, but these criticisms are so weak in comparison to the strengths of this piece. It is safe to say that the influencers, or perhaps “Haters” in this context, will be proven to be so wrong time and time again as this model continues to grow in popularity. With a recent Phillips auction result of $81,900 it’s clear that people with the means are already investing serious sums to possess this instant classic.
Lange is due to grow in mass appreciation and perhaps 2021 will be the year for them to do so.

@@shishioperez7379 everybody says they fancy GS but few of those seem to fancy it enough to buy it, I for one am turned off by those hands. Breguet is hyped to high heaven but apart from XXI their design language just isn't on par. Lange are the kings of dress watch but steel sports yet.

i still remember when the Odysseus came out. it was truly an event! it'll probably be equally impossible to get an Odysseus than a nautilus. Lange only produces about 5,000 watches a year total. a lot less than PP.

No please just take it, hide it somewhere and put it on a strap that doesn’t make the watch look like a dustbin lid with a tank track attached it. I do like this watch but the way those lugs extend and joins the metal bracelet just looks off.

Never been a fan of the lugs, looks like a 1815 attached to a beefy bracelet so I think they need to beef up the lugs a little.
Did not expect the band to surprise me the most. That adjustment mechanism is genius.

I believe that an Odysseus to ALS is what a Cayenne to Porsche. They're unarguably very solid products, but their purpose is to be a cash cow, so that these brands can produce other, more desirable products. If you knew them, I think you'd know what model you'll get.
Except Lange are limiting production severely so no cash cow.

Its bracelet/case lugs somehow look disproportionate. Its dial isn’t very exciting as well. I don’t like it much either.
Two very different watches, the ALS is stunning, the Day/Date set up exquisite, but it is lacking something and for me it is everything that the Nautilus has in bucketloads, Style, Elegance and Refinement. The ALS is superb but it doesn’t do what the PP does, to me it’s a different type of watch, if money was no object I would have the ALS for day to day wear and the PP for evening wear. Now if ALS did central seconds and a date only version........

I’ve been saying this since its release! Highly agree. In fact, I’d have a Royal Oak before a Nautilus too.
It is like L&S build its watches on a 4:1 scale and then shrink them: the level of detail is simply insane.
As for the Nautilus, it suffers from being just a copycat of the Royal Oak, which was the true revolution brought by Gerald Genta into the luxury watchmaking: very well executed but not really original.
I guess people looking for a Genta's watch would not look at the L&S and vice versa

Sleeper hit, the second it came out and not everyone was crazy about it. It had instant sleeper hit for me. This watch will become more and more classic over time.
I love this watch for its technical performance and craftsmanship but I'm not quite satisfied with its design. No matter how popular this model gets, I'd not be tempted to buy one for myself.

I think the thing that may be the longest to get used to seeing is the bracelet... BUT HAVE YOU SEEN IT ON THE STRAP!!!???
@@godwolf2090 I wish it had a more integrated look to it, the bracelet needs to flow from the case with an integrated design like the Constellation, RO, Nautilus, North Flag, Octo Finissimo, etc. Even Rolex does a better job in giving an integrated bracelet look to the regular oyster case compared to Odysseus. My opinions might change after seeing it on a strap :)
@@varunu4176 look it up with the strap , I also still feel the same as you when it comes to the bracelet, I expect maybe they might tweak it in the future but on the rubber strap you get more of an appreciation for how they managed to make a sports watch that looks all the way elegant “Lange”
A Lange make some truly incredible watches, what stops me from wanting one though is simply taste, I love the svelte case and elegant dials of a Patek and my skinny wrists can’t accommodate a chunkier watch. That being said, this is an amazing watch, but it’s not a handsome one.
