Henry Homesteader 9mm Carbine Review

- Опубліковано 13 кві 2023
- Here's Henry Repeating Arms Homesteader. Their first Semi-Auto rifle and has all the Henry quality. It's in 9mm and has a blow-back design. Comes in either Glock, Sig/S&W or Henry's proprietary mag wells. Beautiful and handy rifle for Home Defense, the Range or Pest Control.
👍Thanks to Henry for sending the Homesteader for the review and Fiocchi for supplying the ammo. We also want to thank Otis Technologies for their help.

In a regular world I should be able to drive 10 minutes away and pick this up at more than one sporting goods store. Now it’s a damn project.
Glad they are bringing back the marlin camp 9
I got mine last week. Shot it and absolutely love it, a really fun gun to shoot. Very accurate and I am very pleased with it.
This reminds so very much of my early 90's (pre-Clinton assault weapons ban) Marlin Camp 9. It accepted all S&W 9mm mags of that era and 30-shot mags are still available for this rifle. The safety on the Henry is much easier to work with IMO. I still have that Marlin Camp 9 and the S&W 915 pistol to this day.
Reminds me of the Browning BAR semi auto
Always loved that look
Especially with a longer mag!
Winchester Model 1907
Honest outlaw did a review on this gun and had nothing but problems with it. He got the one with the Henry mags.
Maybe it was user error #uhoh
I dont think so.
I bought a garden seeder a couple years back. All the UA-cam videos just kissed the ground it walked on. Best product ever.....
Bought it put it to work and it was junk right from the word go.
Bottom line. I would never buy any thing based on UA-cam videos.
Ever seen any of these videos on you tube say anything bad?
Very seldom....
@@FreeThink1984 uh huh, sure. You do realize that QC is a thing right?
It really looks like my Daisy 880😂
Love it, wish there were more traditional semi auto carbines being made. The options are essentially mini-14, m1 carbine, and homesteader.
Ruger PC Carbine.
marlin camp 9
@@emptybottleof151 not currently in production and used ones are going for almost as much as this Henry.
@@steimystein4368 I've considered it, but it looks like a star wars blaster or a ppsh-41, at least the ones in stock at my local gunshops lol
@GunGirl1997 the standard PC Carbine looks close to this gun, it just has black polymer furniture. And it's hundreds less. Plus it's a takedown model so it will fit in a backpack.
Remember the marlins in 9 mm and 45 acp ,back in the 80s , some of the other police officers carried them in their patrol cars, almost bought a 45 version, but. I carried my m-1 carbine when on patrol and it was nice to have it if the situation came up
A lot of Police carried the Ruger Police Carbines as well. The PC9 .PC4. Before AR15's came the norm
It’s sweet but I already have a Ruger PC carbine and a Kel tec sub 2000 that takes Glock mags
I particularly like the Mossberg-style safety. Great review, Brother!
Thanks Bob! Yes, so easy to access.
@@sootch00 I'm a bit disappointed TBH. Because Henry copied the AK fire control, the gun cannot be charged with the safety engaged. But Ruger PC can, and it is helpful. It's a good that it's ambidextrous from the factory.
Henry is doing a great job making quality rifles and shotguns Made in the USA. Lever action rifles, shotguns, but are so Americana.
Nice to see these dropping into the $750-800 price range from the $1100+ it came out to. Looks like a good alternative to the Marlin Camp Nine, a discontinued model that I have been kind of craving.
$720 at my local store
@@theeasternfront6436
Is that with either the Glock or Beretta magwell adaptors, or just the two Henry magazines? Even without, I'd probably still walk out with one at that price.
Wooo…. Gonna be looking for these to go on sale Black Friday. Let’s hope!!!!!
Still cheaper to buy a camp nine, and that's a better rifle, it seems.
That said, I'm 100% a fan of having more options.
Sootch, you are the BEST at assembly / dis-assembly. Explaining the take down and assembly for everyone! Thanks. This is a cool gun. I am going to get one. Why? I want one.
Nice! I love the more traditional wood look. Thank you for posting this video.
It's just really neat - old school, unapologetic awesomeness and modernity with those mag wells - gotta love Henry. I love my AR-7.
Thus is the 5th review I've watched. Two were incomplete because the charging handle was not delivered. One had jamming issues with the Henry mags and complained he couldn't fully load each one, and one had issues with the Glock mags. The last one was complaining of the hollow front grip (was aware of the works inside it). Yours was the first one to show a full breakdown of the gun for cleaning. Oh, one of the other reviews stated that fully loading the Henry mags became easier after repeated use. Each one added more to the story.
Thank you!
I love it! The cool factor is off the charts!
Thank you for the nice slow step by step disassembly and the receiver well change out. It was really easy for me to follow along. VERY much appreciated by a novice!
You are 100% spot on with having rods handy for those "moments " on the range when everyone else forgot their kit and needed some help . Good to have a check list most weekend shooters forget this along with med kits also. Great video, nice firearm.
Thank you Sootch !!! Just ordered some new Swing Slivels for my new Henry Homesteader !!!!!
Love the looks of the Homesteader!
I wish I had his luck. I’ve never seen a failure in any of his reviews
That's movie magic.
Did you see Honest Outlaw’s review? He had the Henry proprietary magazines, and he had MULTIPLE failures to feed/extract.
Wow I came here for the Henry but I think I’m going ruger !! When I saw how it was disassembled it was final. Thanks sootch.
Thank you for sharing this video with us 👍
Henry is killin' it. What a great American company in this day and age
I want one
Visiting again a few weeks later with more Thanks for the review.
I have the Marlin camp 9 and it is great
I must have one!!! Good thing it comes in 10 round too.
Thanks for reviewing it. Was curious about it since seeing it's release and you answered all my questions and concerns. Now ya gotta get your paws on one of their new .357's revolvers I have been drooling over them since their release too 😅
Surprisingly well done - it's a Henry.
I like the tactical black rifles, but I also love the old school traditional wood and steel firearms! I really like this new PCC from Henry. Also, have my eye on those new revolvers they are manufacturing…!
Great video as always brother Sootch! 👍🏻💪🏻🤙🏻
Of course they’re ads ! Sootch has been doing ‘em for years, nobody minds. On the subject of this gun Honest Outlaw was having a terrible time with it and the Henry mags.
@@CrimeVid Yeah I saw that and I hope he does a follow up when or if they fix it or get him a new one.
@@CrimeVid
Interesting
Excellent video. Another gun to add to my Christmas list.
Nice review! I'm a huge Henry fan and will have to consider this one. Very reminiscent of the Marlin Camp 9 in my opinion and will definitely compliment my Marlin.
My Marlin Camp 9 cost me $650.......The Homesteader is $300 more ....it's a big NO for me. Nice gun though
It would look nicer if the furniture was matched a little better.
Perfect fit for us! Mrs shoots Glock 19 and I love my 9mm LCR. TŌN of ammo and Glock magazines.
I love it and I'm very excited for the new Henry Revolvers
Yes i heard about.
Great informative REVIEW. I learned a lot.
I really like it, looks like tons of fun!
Awesome review video good presentation your one of the best Don
I just learned about needing a rod the hard way this weekend. Had a click, no bang. Tapped the mag, racked the slide, got showered with gun powder from the extracted case. Round stuck in the barrel. Done shooting that pistol for the day. Fortunately I had another gun to shoot, so it wasn't a total waste.
This is the revue I’ve been waiting for.
Put it through its paces! Sootch!
I think the Glock mag wells have the best turn out.
Wonder if Henry will be offering any upgrades to the charging handle?
Henry repeating arms is the best. I love my Henry rifles. Shoot straight. Work every time. Feeds my family every year with deer meat
Don look at Honest outlaws video on this rifle he had problems with Henrey mags
Jammed every 3 rds.
If and when Henry makes a Homesteader in .40s&w I will definitely buy one.
No you wont... don't lie.
The market is dead. Companies are dropping support for the 40 Smith & Wesson.
@@WALTERBROADDUS Not entirely...40 shows up out there still today.
@@michaelpalm2210 I don't think Beretta has any more . 40S&W? Ruger? I don't think they have any in the catalog? Taurus? Not currently. FN? I don't think they have any now? CZ-Usa, Canik, Kel-Tec, Colt, Walther? None of them have a 40 Smith & Wesson on catalog. That's not a lot of industry support? 😌
@@michaelpalm2210 in fact about the only ones I could find on a quick search were Glock, H&K and Kahr?
Reminds me of the old Marlin Camp Carbines. Been trying to track one of those down for a few years with no luck.
The Henry's reminds me of a cross between the Marlin Camp Carbine and a Browning BAR. I like the look of it.
I’m no snob even if I have other fire arms made from different countries but there’s just pride in Henry rifles because you know they are American made when I go out in the woods to hunt with my Henry 30-30 side gate the feeling is just amazing .
awesome review, thanks for the take down video
Just picked one up! 😎 Great review!
Looking forward to the 40 s&w. And the 10 mm.
I need this in 10mm! ASAP
Awesome rifle thanks for sharing sootch00
It is my hope that the marketing gurus at Henry will eventually add the 45 ACP or 10mm option to this beauty.
Yes! Me too. If it takes 1911 mags . . .
Marlin had a Camp 45 and a Camp 9.......I'm sayin theres a chance!😁
@@briandrake5464 The marlin Camp 45 takes 1911 mags . Probably costs the same as a homesteader if you can find one for sale used.
I just saw that HENRY just introduced a REVOLVER ! 38/357 with two grips. Look pretty nice, but want about a grand.
Great review thanks
Awesome review. Great job,
Great review. Thanks.
Keltec Sub 2000 for the win.
Great review especially comparing to Ruger PC Carbine. I Received my Henry/ Glock version carbine last week.
IMO thats a very nice, classic looking rifle with modern touches. Where I live there is almost a cult following for the old ruger deerfield 44mag semi auto rifles. Not sure why ruger stopped production, but I think henry would have a winner if they made the homesteader chambered in 44mag or 357/38.
My first thought was 9mm in a carbine rifle? I'd want a 44mag/357mag minimum. We have a lot of wild hogs around here and have seen a boar get nailed with a 168gr. 308 and get up and walk away. I think a 9mm would just piss it off...
Just said we been screaming for a .357 PCC for a long time,,,, Henry should be the one to bring that to us,,,,Ruger quit listening
@fishtwo & Ruger: I have the Ruger 44 and hunt deer with it in Ohio. It's a great field firearm. Ok, so it's internal magazine only holds 4 rounds, +1 in the chamber. I concur that if Ruger re-introduced this fine firearm both the sportsmen and Ruger would be well served.
Greetings from the PPRC great review it’s on my list.🇺🇸🇺🇸
That is a neato compact, thanks.
I want one. Love my Ruger PCC
This would be perfect to have a mini bar kit for it!
Henry for Life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like it. Reminds me of the marlin camp rifle and others like it.
Now with that said I'd like to see a more traditional bluing finish and checking or nothing instead of that ruff wood or at least a ruff texture inlay or a bed liner type material
Yep buying this!! 45ACP next please
I already have an AR9 that cost me under $700. Uses 20 and 30 round Colt style magazines.
Do you remember the marlin camp version that was a 9 mm I used to have one of those is right where Henry’s got it nailed that one right on the market..
Great review!
I love Henry rifles and own more than one.
I wish they would finish and blue their barrels and receivers better.
For the price, i think a extra polishing and deep blueing is appropriate.
Enjoyed the review.
Good stuff 👍
I have the ruger pc9 and I think I’ll get this one too
Like the Marlin carbine's and the Henry carbine, worked in law enforcement back in the 80s and some Deputies and officers carried them and later in 40 s&w , some LEOS carried mini 14 , always wanted one of the mini 14 or the 40 carbine, but I did carry my m1 carbine in my patrol car and several 15 round magazines and 30 round magazines with jsp and fmj loads 2/ 15 round on the stock and a 30 round in the carbine with 3 extra 30 round and 2 15 round magazines and 150 rounds of ammo in the case, standard sidearm was a 357 magnum revolver, and 12 gauge shotgun, and not all officers had a carbine, but a 30 caliber carbine was a excellent asset and alternative to have when on patrol, especially when working the night shift and back country roads, and a revolver and shotgun might not be enough 🤔
Would love this in a side gate loaded lever action.
Love it.
This is perfect. Since it's not tactical and black it won't be considered a assault weapon and is not as deadly. Can't wait to purchase one
They'll get around to it. Remember it can hold a magazine containing more than ten rounds, which makes it EVIL.
beautiful rifle
I like it ! If they can do one in .45 acp in the future would be nice put a GOOD can on it and it would make it like a De Lisle in semi auto. 👍
Handsome rifle. Very no nonsense appearance and configuration. Unfortunately I have seen some bad reviews due to malfunctions
Biggest advantage in my eyes with the wood furniture non tactical look is in certain situation the Henry would draw less attention as it looks more like a traditional hunting weapon.
The break down feature on the Ruger is handy for putting it in a backpack for sure but I see no reason that Henry could not design a takedown version while retaining the non tactical look if they wanted to.
Now if they would just make one in .45 acp that uses 1911 magazines.
I believe the problem would be Henrys strange recoil system.
I agree, I would like to see a .45acp version. I bought my friend the Marlin Camp-45 back in 86 for his 21st Bday to go with his 1911 series 80. He had bought me a .357 lever action for mine earlier that year.
Glad there's a P320 option for it. The Keltec and Ruger options for this firearm type don't offer that to my knowledge. This Henry is a bit more pricey that the other option but the quality seems more rugged.
Very nice.
Nice!
This would be a lot od fun in 45 acp. Like a Marlin Camp Carbine.
I like this guy but honestly this sale presentation is hard to watch 😮
The Homesteader is a reincarnation of the Marlin Camp 9 carbine. Same idea, very similar in appearance.
Now someone needs to make a red dot with tasteful wood paneling.
I would love to see them make this Homesteader in 44 magnum what a gun that would be.
Cool video. I have an old Ruger PC4 (0.40cal). Would love to get one if they come out with a 10mm. I love pistol carbines and enjoyed the video.
Me too. I have a 1997 vintage Ruger PC4.....fantastic home defense weapon...and I like 9MM too. so lots of choices out there. The Homesteader would be a great all around plinker and home defense carbine as well imo
I'd like to see a version chambered for .40 S&W. Better stopping power.
You're not going to see anything from the industry. The cartridge is dying. If you want to carbine in 40 Smith & Wesson, Beretta Storm is a great choice.
The answer to the question no one asked!! There are many other PCC’s with more features and less money! Henry keeps coming out with new models that are in an already loaded market ie: revolvers in 357/38
Stick with what got you there!!!
Reminds me of my Marlin Camp 9.
I will be so happy, having one.....not easy to have such things in central Europe.....
Now while the 9mm is cheaper to shoot this would be even better in .38 Super or .357 SIG but best of all the 10MM. Neat and well done firearm. It could be a good house gun for defense or in a bit more potent caliber like the 10mm a good close range brush gun for hogs. This reminds me some of the Winchester 1907 .351 or 1910
.401
100% agreed on the 10mm
I was thinking the same thing I love the 38 super round.i have a 1911 chambered in 38 super
This is one of the most afforadable 9mm carbine and a versatile one
It's 1k. There's a ton of 9mm carbine more affordable
Personally i don't think $1,000 is considered affordable to most people. If its affordable for you congrats on your wealth. But its definitely not versatile especially when compared to a ruger pc carbine. It's definitely versatile for a fudd gun 😂 if you put it that way.
I'll be buying one. Moving some of the bolt mass under the forearm was genius.
@Jonathan Especially when you consider that for $1k, you could build an AR. $1k is a lot for a wood stock and a hyped up name.
Fudd gun is a good name for it.
Some of us enjoy our fudd guns.
