  • What is the symbolism of sacrifice? How is work a sacrifice for the future and creation of space/order in the never-ending tug of war between space and time, order and chaos? What is the symbolism of the cherubim and griffins, and why do they guard the sacred, the treasure, and Heaven in mythology and the Scriptures?

4:34 Yeah the One that was more work was rejected, But because he kept the choice fruits for himself because he labored for them. Instead he brought the least of the fruits of his labor. I don't think work is even close to sacrifice, To sacrifice you must gain something & give something of typically equal value, Working isn't about gaining, its about maintaining, It was a curse placed upon us that in order to eat & live we would have to toil or labor or WORK. Therefore i don't see how it could be sacrifice in the slightest. If it was you wouldn't have people who work needing to make sacrifices on top of working, but they do. Now you can sacrifice for your work, But is it for work? or is it for that paper currency that you worship? Its a interesting idea but i don't think it tracks, As again you do not gain anything you lose, & maintain things. Ayo Hawwah Great Spirit Bless.

Hey King Katura, thanks for the response! I agree with a lot of that. I’ll try to hit the key points here, let’s see…
“ Instead he brought the least of the fruits of his labor.”
There are many interpretations of the Cain and Abel story, but I generally tend to lean toward that too; that Cain’s sacrifice, while we don’t know exactly why it was rejected, was clearly not good enough, quite possibly because it was the least of the fruits of his labor. Whatever the reason, something about the sacrifice was off; he missed the mark (חָטָא, chata) somehow, and his sacrifice was rejected.
“Working isn't about gaining, its about maintaining,”
I’m not sure I understand this one, although I do agree with at least half of that - that it’s about maintaining; maintaining balance really, of the opposites, order and chaos for example. But how can we maintain without gain? In the never-ending tug of war between order and chaos, space and time etc, our role as humans is to mediate between the opposites and balance them, by tugging to gain ground against chaos for example, gaining order out of the natural state of chaos/potential/multiplicity in nature, to inevitably lose ground to it that you must regain (mowing the lawn, raking, fixing the house as it breaks down, etc)
But the big question - is work a sacrifice?
“Therefore i don't see how it could be sacrifice in the slightest.”
My take is that work is a pattern of sacrifice because as you say, to sacrifice you must give something up & gain something as a result, and that's exactly what we do when we work.
When we work we give up time, attention, energy and more. And in return, we gain something; money, respect from our boss/peers perhaps, vacation days, etc. Or returning to the house example, we work giving up time and energy to gain order and space from chaos and time; order/space in the form of cut grass, clean, functioning gutters, strong walls and roof keeping out the elements, etc.
I think that meets the criteria you mentioned. But maybe your definition of sacrifice is different from mine in another way?
For me, there are two primary forms of sacrifice that we see at every level of reality; the offering up of one's best, and the scapegoat offering Girard focused on (maybe a bit too exclusively) - this video focuses almost completely on the former if I remember correctly.

By the way, you make a great point about worshipping money/Mammon - that's definitely a god we serve here in the West, and elevate much higher than we should. It can be difficult to know where the line is exactly, where you cross over from aiming at the Highest to aiming at something lower, like money.
For me at least, it's easy to justify the aim (oh I'm working extra hours to feed the family, give them a better life, to have extra to give to others etc), but really, really difficult to know whether or not you're right...
