Both were amazing. Thomas Keller teaches refinement in cooking and lots of skills you can apply at home. Alice winters makes great dishes, some techniques and a philosophy to bring to your cooking. It’s not either or, it’s definitely both.

This is the work of the Lord. I experienced a big loss not too long ago and was looking for something to take my mind off of it and started to wonder about which one of these I should buy. And low and behold, I see this. I haven't watched it yet, but I just want to say thank you so much for it!!

We LOVE the Alice Waters Master Class to inspire the very LOVE of food and how to approach it with all your senses and respect for the food and the people who grow or produce it for you. Thomas Kellar is just the master of method and technique and you can never have enough technique in you kitchen repertoire, both are very different but very inspirational.

Thomas Keller: Food is nurturing. Food is heritage. Food is luxury. (Rich's table man)
Alice Waters: Food is rehab. Food is healing. Food is humbling. (Poor man's table)

This is a very eloquent, excellent review and comparison. I was looking for the Xmas gift for my daughter that wants and needs nothing, however being raised by an "old world" mom she was taught how to cook from the early age. This summer she got into a fine dining restaurant kitchen as a prep-staff member and is advancing, finding her passion regardless of her degree in Environmental Science. I am happy to see her on her way to discovering where happiness lives when it comes to professional life. Thank you very much. I have decided to go with Alice Waters class.

Before even watching the video (which was useful, by the way, thanks), I notice the title: it asks the wrong question.
It shouldn't be "who is the better chef" (it's 100% Keller, btw), but "who is the best teacher".

If you are a pretty accomplished home cook can you go straight into the Keller advanced course?

    • @LouisPetrides

For sure, Thomas Keller's Masterclass will help if you are an accomplished home cook. He will give you structure - like the Gordon Ramsay Masterclass. And it goes the other way as well.
If you are a professional chef and know all the mechanics of cooking works. Then I'd say go for the Alice Waters masterclass. Thank you for commenting on this review.

From the 70's rather than go to the farmers market I went to see what was ripe in my organic garden... to the goat shed and see about production ( to much = cheese) or wait and see what game or fish was brought home from the field and woods by me or my husband...I wonder could I learn from Alice Waters....

Thomas Keller 9 Michelin stars. Alice Waters 0 Michelin stars. Thomas is a teacher, Alice is a romantic. I have all access and watched them both and Alice gave a lot of great info but, I Don't think she'll do another Masterclass while as Thomas has done three and has just scratched the surface of what he has to offer. The third Masterclass by TK is the best of all the masterclass series.

I will say Alice Waters all the way. While Thomas Keller is undoubtedly a great chef, I find his presentation style rather dry and a lot of what he does is utterly impractical for a home cook.
Perhaps it would be fair to say that the Thomas Keller masterclass is about cooking for its own sake and the Alice Waters one is about eating and living well.

I've been in the business for decades, known of Chef Keller before most even before moving not far from the French Laundry. I knew of Ramsay before he was on TV. What I don't understand is who this woman is. I have literally never heard of her and that is why I clicked on this video. I thought who in the world is this youtuber comparing to arguably the best chef of our time. I still don't get it. It's like comparing a dirt track weekend racecar driver to an F1 or Nascar driver in my opinion. I don't see the comparison. Sorry.

    • @LouisPetrides
      @LouisPetrides  5 років тому +7

No problem at all Prioris9. Just because you don't know Alice Waters Masterclass. It doesn't mean she's not a credible American chef deserving of having her own Masterclass. She has a unique style of cooking when compared to traditional chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Thomas Kellers, or Wolfgang Puck. This is why I believe the comparison is that much more valuable than If I compared Gordon Ramsay to Thomas Keller.
1:21 I answer this as well. -- Thank you for the comment. Let me know if you end up getting the Thomas Keller Masterclass.
