"Total Eclipse" was my favorite, because it finally showed the audience that there was more than 1 good singer in the group, since Scott had been lead on the first 2 songs they performed. And for the last 20 seconds or so of it, PTX even had an a cappella section, with a classic "everyone sings a different melody, but comes back together at the end" section. But anyone who didn't recognize Scott's voice after the first 10 seconds of the first song just wasn't familiar with Pentatonix at all. Scott said he tried to disguise his voice, but I'd have to give him a fail on that one. The mics they are (awkwardly) holding in their hands in costume are either fake or turned off - everyone wears a full headset inside the costume (as you can see when they are unmasked).
They got 3rd place. The final was between Medusa and Macaw. From what I have read PTX left the show voluntarily because their European tour was starting and it was causing scheduling conflicts. Otherwise they definitely would have won. We all know they are the winners. (At least they are in my world.) Have you reacted to Wizard of Ahhs yet? If not it needs to be at the top of your list. Kirstie is showcased in this one and she puts Judy Garland to shame. Judy would be so proud of her. She is really incredible. Seeing the guys dressed as Munchkins in one part is so hilarious...they have on bald caps. So funny. Kirstie also shows her Broadway training. (Yes, she was on Broadway.) Please do this song. It is not only amazing but funny as well. The whole story in 4 minutes. They are so talented...just blows my mind every time I watch them. I'm so happy for them and proud of them as well. Thanks for your reaction and thoughts on their performances. I agree...the Bruno Mars was my least favorite as well. Loved the rest. Hope you and the family are doing well. 1. Shorter performances is called "Battle Royale" between two of the lowest vote getters who typically sing a different style of the same song. It gives them the chance to prove to the panel they deserve to stay. 2. Every week PTX was on was considered a "theme" week. They have to choose a song confined to the theme. New York theme they sang "Uptown Girl." British Invasion week saw them perform "Creep." My guess is that Fox provides them a list of approved songs within the genre to choose.
I was so mad that Pentatonix didn't make it to the top two in the Masked Singer finale. In a pole 67% of viewers thought that Medusa would be the 1st person to go home of the top three between California Rolls, Macaw and Medusa. Everyone thought that either Pentatonix or Macaw would win but Medusa who was saved from elimination by Nicole, the worst singer in my opinion won. TBH, I won't be watching it again in the future because of season 9 and another season that was similar.
@MsJimmysgirl...Pentatonix had a scheduling conflict with their European tour and had to leave at 3rd place. It was decided that 3rd was the highest they could climb. PTX wanted the experience of being on the show and seeing how far they could make it. I was so mad about the whole thing until I read that. They were never going to win (although in my world they won and Medussa came in last...) Hope this bit of info helps you like it did me. The whole audience and judges...they all know who the true winners were. We all know. This season since PTX was on it was the most watched season ever. Especially their videos. The whole world loved them. No way the audience and judges voted them off. Hope you are doing well!! Peace ✌️
Sal, you've heard Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl"; you just don't recognize it after PTX turned it into a ballad. Go listen to the original, and you'll need about three seconds before you say "Oh, THAT song".
Uptown Girl (Billy Joel) and the Bruno Mars were for the head to heads which determined between two contestants which one stayed and which left the competition, they had to sing the same song as their competitor but the arrangement was up to them, but they are shortened. They came in 3rd, but rumor has it they had conflicts with their European tour and chose to bow out behind the scenes, so they weren't really voted out. Can't confirm it though.
I would bet on it. They used NO beatboxing, because it would have given their identity away immediately (as if we didn't already know in the first 5 seconds), but they suddenly added beatboxing in their final performance. This says to me that they knew it was their last performance on the show; they weren't even trying to keep their identity secret at that point.
It was definitely the "Scott" show for most of the songs. Kirstie was the only one who got a chance a lead. It was nice to hear Kevin get some singing in. Creep is already out there. I don't know that they'll do more. Although, I'd love a version of their Kelly Clarkson cover if it was longer. The Billy Joel and Bruno Mars songs were as someone else said, we're elimination rounds. All the contestants sing their version of the songs, which is why they're shorter. In order for you to understand the concept, you'd need to watch a good portion of each episode so you could see the clue packages.
I would love a full version of their Total Eclipse, they really refreshed that song for me. But I wouldn't say no to an EP of all of their songs on the show lol. I gathered that they had to bow out early to start the European tour...so I assume without that then they would have won. I can't help but wonder what songs they would have done for the final.
Hello Salvo G. Thanks for reacting to the entire set from Sushi Roll. PTX excels again with superb arrangements and vocals, Uptown Girl is a quite popular song by Billy Joel from the 1980's.. My favourite song in this set is Total Eclipse of the Heart. I hope PTX does a full cover of that at some point. Creep of course is outstanding - the passion and the energy from Scott, that bass line from Matt and the fantastic, perfect, stratospheric vocals from Mitch.
Wow, I guess I'll be the first to say it, but you skipped the best performance of the show! They sing Creep, unmasked at end of the video. You get to see, the crowd and judges reactions, to a, "true" PTX performance. And, imo, it sounds better than the first time they sang it. Scott can show his emotion, and knocks it out of the park. Mitch slapping, where I don't think Judges knew it was him, first time around. Need to do another, super short reaction, imo. Or at least just watch it for yourself.
Never watched the masked singer before, never saw the point. Thought it was kind of a ridiculous concept. Still feel that way. Still won’t watch it. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable and difficult to move in, those costumes were. When all the buzz started after the California Roll first performance, I found a UA-cam video and knew after the first few seconds it was Scott and PTX. Just close your eyes and listen. Their voices and harmonies are unmistakable to their fans. I’m sure they had fun with it, I hope they did. The good things to come out of it were: 1) I would *LOVE* to hear PTX do more full covers of Bonnie Tyler and Billy Joel songs, and 2) maybe some medleys of Kelly Clarkson and Bruno Mars music. Videos I would actually ‘watch’ not just listen to. Thanks for the recap!
Just wanted to let you know that the reason why Mitch is bald in some videos and he is thinner in his latest videos than his older ones is because he was diagnosed with cancer in the past, before Avi left the group. He has been in remission for years and is still in remission to this day.
@@bridgethaines7127 I doubt that was the case. The shows weren't live. They were all pre-recorded. By the time the quarter-final and semi-final episodes aired, PTX were already well into their European tour.
@@Lupin788 Except for the fact Medusa's performance in the Bruno Mars group was HORRENDOUSLY bad. Like so bad. There is zero chance they would have been eliminated based on performance.
@@bridgethaines7127 By that point of the competition the audience members have already decided on their favourites. No one is going to change their vote based on a bad performance in the battle round. I've posted elsewhere that I think some PTX supporters in the audience may have voted for Macaw because they were confident PTX would get through and they wanted David Archuleta in the finale too. Or some of them may have wanted Medusa in the finale. Three-way votes are unpredictable that way. The judges of course may have had their own agenda; they may have been instructed by show producers to make sure "underdog" Medusa gets through for show drama. Each judge's vote is effectively 12.5% of the total vote. They may also have assumed PTX would easily win the audience vote, so they didn't need to. Instead, at least 2 of them may have voted for Medusa.
You did not finish it out. Once unmasked, they sing a song taking out to the break or to end the show. And yes, not a big Bruno Mars fan either. Why is Looking for something dumb to do part of so many wedding flash mobs? “If we wake up we can break up”-really? embracing that divorce thing huh? But his “I just have not met you yet”-in Mandel Mobbed episode was a big exception. Think I will rewatch it now on UA-cam.
Edit: Michael Buble song that song. But if you want a super touching story- Howie Mandel Mobbed-Donovan. A lady is scared to tell her mom she has been divorced for 6 years…and a son who is 6 who has not met his grandmother.

I knew they wouldn't give it to PTX just on the fact that there are 5 of them and the show is called "The Masked Singer" a single person, not a group.
