You cannot go wrong with The Cure. Lullaby, Boys Don’t Cry, Lovesong, Lovecats, In Between Days, Friday I’m In love, Pictures of You etc etc Their brand new album is phenomenal. Robert Smith was in Siouxsie and the Banshees as well - a cover of Dear Prudence is fantastic.
Robert Smith & The Cure has been doing this since 1978. The catalog of their work is at least equal to anyone of the post punk genre and era. I've seen them 5 times. Last time in 2021 Toronto. The production quality of anything they do is still elite. Lyrics are masterful. One of their biggest tunes. Definitely in their top 5. Pictures Of You is my No. 1 choice. I cut my teeth as a teen on these guys. Earlier than this. A Forest, The Hanging Garden, Faith!!!!
Great to see you getting to The Cure, there's some journey ahead for you! They've been around since the late seventies and released their 14th studio album just last month. Not every song will hit, but persistence pays rich dividends.
This song came out in 1987. 1979 by the Pumpkins came out in 1996. Pictures of You is my favourite Cure song and in my top 5 of all time songs. The Cure are in the Rock and Roll HOF! The also just released an amazing album, first one in 16 years---and Robert Smith said he has 2 more albums of material ready to go! Enjoy this rabbit hole...Cheers!
The Cure used to be one of my favorite bands when I was in 5th and 6th grade so very early 90's. They had a huge hit on The Crow soundtrack from the original movie
Another great band that I've taken my kids (well two of three) to see. Great live as well and have just released a new album. So many more songs to explore - Boys Don't Cry has a great video as well, Pictures Of You, Lullaby, Fascination Street, In-between Days......... They streamed a concert of their new album Songs of a Lost World to the world for free only 2 weeks ago. Robert Smith the lead singer is just a really decent human being. Was also in another of my favorite punk bands Siouxsie and The Banshees briefly. They, The Banshees, do a good cover of The Beatles - Dear Prudence.
Spot on about the vibes of this song. This song actually was one of my favorites to blast in my car, summer driving a group of friends over to my grandpas lake house, etc when I was a teen. Some of the happiest days of my life. This song never fails to slam me with nostalgia
You mentioned Edward Scissorhands. Robert Smith was the inspiration for Tim Burton to create Edward. Robert’s look is definitely iconic. The Cure is my favorite band. Their catalog is impressive. Started out in 1979 and just released a #1 album on Halloween called Songs of a Lost World. Their new album is absolutely incredible!
Tim Burton, the director of Edward Scissorhands, was a huge The Cure fan and he used Robert Smith's image as the inspiration for Edward Scissorhands. They've just released a new album with new material after 16 years or so, their best since Disintegration imo.
If you want to hear a completely different sound - just a little harder - Do their song "Burn" which was created for the soundtrack for "The Crow" (1994). However, they do have some great songs that have different dimensions. My personal favorite is "Love Song."
Hi! I always put them in the “New Wave” era. I LOVE their music and spent many hours listening, singing and dancing to them in the 80’s. (I’m 54 now)…Love Cats is a fun little song…Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
One of the bands that has the MOST unique, identifying sound, ever made... I could instantly tell if something is a Cure song, by the guitar, the bassline, and the tone of the intro. Lead singer, in the band's early era, as part of a promotion, ha a phone line in his home that fans could call. He would pick up at random times an just talk to some of his fans directly...
Couple of things I find enduring with The Cure is 1) Robert Smith's voice, never ages. 2) With their singles, Their intros are bonkers catchy as hell. This one a prime example of that.
You know a band is great when their live performances sound identical, if not better than their studio versions. * Relaxation tip: consume your favorite adult edible and listen to 'A Forest' on repeat. 😵💫
this is one of the most intriguing song structures ever recorded ... i will say right off the bat that kiss me kiss me kiss me is my favorite cure album - it was the transition piece between the early "goth" flavored things, towards a more experimental yet pop flavored sound ... this was the "hit" from this record, and probably has more residual play than any other song from this record due to movies, tv shows, etc. this is the most pop oriented track - however THERE IS NO CHORUS. mind-boggling. the structure is as follows: intro build verse 1 bridge verse 2 pre chorus bridge verse 3 pre chorus > coda that non-resolving song structure, coupled with the lyrical content (very edgar allan poe - dead girlfriend, non-acceptance of loss) - leads it to be one of the most disturbing songs i have ever loved. Rick Beato has a wonderful breakdown of this tune in his "what makes this song great" collection. i bought this the day it released in the US in 1987 - 35 years later Rick broke my brain by explaining why it impacted me so hard for so long ...
The Cure is such a deep and rich hole to jump into. If you like songs that are about building and layering new elements as the song goes on, then Close to Me is just one of the best for that. But, they've got soooo many amazing songs from Pictures of You, Killing an Arab, Let's go to bed, In Between Days.....a fantastic collection of their "early" greatest hits is an Album called Staring at the Sea (The Singles) which kind of covered from 79 - 85ish?)....Love Cats....Caterpillar....A Forest....Jumping someone elses Train, Charlotte Sometimes....probably my favorite band just because of the volume of amazingly good songs.
This is one of my fav bands. I’m a GenX goth kid. They recently released a new album and still tour. Live shows are amazing. I sat next to a couple of members of AFI at a show in Utah. If you enjoyed that you might Sisters of Mercy or Echo & the Bunnymen.
Calling all goths. Not sure if you've done much goth or goth adjacent music, but the cure is a HUGE inspiration and part of that subculture. You will often hear this being spun at goth clubs. A few of the recommendations below are must listens by the cure. My personal fav is a bit darker. The Cure - A night like this
I was in high school in the 80's. One day I wore a Cure T-shirt to my Grandparent's house. My Grandpa said "If that's the cure, I'd hate to see the disease".
🤣 For some reason, that gave me Grandpa Simpson vibes, especially the one episode where he rants about how he used to be “With it” till they changed what “IT” was and now what’s it is weird and scary to him.
One of my all time favorite bands, great songs, great song writing, checkout their greatest hits album with acoustic versions recorded live on a soundstage…a little stripped down and so pure…that acoustic version of “lullaby” is awesome
Your reaction was very much like mine the first time I heard this song sitting in a pub for lunch, watching MTV on the big screen back in the 80's. It grabbed me instantly and I thought ... Instant Hit !!
🙌💯 Came here to say this!! Best album EVER for a rainy afternoon or a melancholy mood or just when I’m feeling nostalgic. Great to fall asleep to, cook to, study to, cuddle to, take on a roadtrip…. 🔥🔥
The Cure have so many great songs, just keep looking up songs, you won't be disappointed . Tool is still my favorite band, but The Cure are definitely in my top 5
The song list for these guys is immense..... Pictures of You Close To Me Lovesong The Walk A Forest Let's Go To Bed The Caterpillar High Friday I'm In Love Lullaby Trust In Between Days ...an a metric shit ton of other songs
Grew up in the 80s in the UK . so many artists and bands that i really did not listen to The Cure. Missed out for sure then. Cannot deny their unique sound and interpretation they bring to their songs.
If you haven’t already, I’m going to request from my absolute favorite band, Echo and the Bunnymen, “the Killing Moon”. Classic 80s, New Romantics era.
Oh mate, this is one of my fave songs ever 🥰 You can't compare any bands to them, they are The Cure. Robert Smith is England's greatest living poet... Btw Dinosaur Jr did a great cover of this song back in the day 🤪
RABBIT HOLE OF LIFE. Early highlight "A Forest" 1980. The entire "Head on the Door" album, 1985. "Friday I'm in Love", "Pictures of You", "Lovesong", "In Between Days", "A Night Like This", for starters. Personal faves "The Blood", "Push". If anything bands copy them not vice versa (Smashing Pumpkins LOL).
You missed this band. Im 52. The Cure were huge. Many amazing catchy feely songs. The way to a chicks heart when I was 18. Their competition was The Smiths. Both were the bands of the EMO style kids.
Teenagers about to make out in a movie is a possible vibe. But I've always felt it was the point where the guy sees the girl he wants making out with the first guy's mortal enemy. The main thing is that the mortal enemy doesn't even know he is a mortal enemy. That's the vibe I've always gotten from this song, in particular.
Love The Cure. can be surprisingly upbeat & happy, despite all the Gothness. They do a wonderfully creepy track called lullaby; the video will give you nightmares. Meanwhile I shall continue to push for P J Harvey. She's gone through more stylistic metamorphoses than Bowie. This is her in her 'Joan Crawford On Acid' phase ua-cam.com/video/zot52ISPrVE/v-deo.html
This band is my teenagedom. 😁 lot of cool suggestions here in the comments. I know you reacted to Boys Don’t Cry already. My faves are Pictures of You & Lovesong, of which I think that latter one you would really resonate with. Several other good ones were listed, so I hope you dive into The Cure rabbit hole 🕳 🐇
One of the best bands ever. I love all their songs.
Correction!!!! Edward Scissor hands looks like HIM!!!!!
Thats exactly right. Like Depp used Keith Richards as his muse to be a pirate.
Exactly
THANK YOU!!!
The Cure are freakin alternative goth icons. So many good songs and very different vibes from the early 80's to now.
No one called them goth in Europe.
You cannot go wrong with The Cure.
Lullaby, Boys Don’t Cry, Lovesong, Lovecats, In Between Days, Friday I’m
In love, Pictures of You etc etc
Their brand new album is phenomenal.

Wow, great news!!
I love The Cure!! So many great deep songs
One of the Best bands to ever form. Robert Smith is a genius. May I suggest Lullaby and Pictures of you as the next Cure songs to review
Friday I’m In Love- Cure. BP this was another huge hit by The Cure and a lot of fun. Love to see you react to it.
👍👍
The Cure - Lovesong and Fascination Street ❤
Lullaby
One of the best songs ever
Their best-known song at this point is probably "Friday I'm in Love", but they have a lot of great music. Still at it, too.
Check out The Cure’s Lullaby and Pictures of You, two great songs from their 1989 album Disintegration.
CD was on heavy rotation in my college dorm, class of 91.
❤❤❤ the Cure!
This is what I grew up on. Hours and hours singing to this in my teenage bedroom 😅
love the cure , please do more
Pictures of You and Friday I'm in Love are two more of my favorites. They have so many good songs.
I was a big fan. My fav from The Cure, as a lot of The Cure fans, is "A Forest" from the album Seventeen Seconds. Enjoy!
You should listen to Lovesong. The cure is so good so many great songs . ❤
One of my favorite Cure songs. In between days is another good one.
Lots of great covers of in between days
My favourite group of all time 🎉🎉🎉
The Cure had a different sound to most other groups. Friday I’m in Love is another classic. The layered intro on this song is amazing
"Lovesong" next please
The Cure used to be one of my favorite bands when I was in 5th and 6th grade so very early 90's. They had a huge hit on The Crow soundtrack from the original movie

Lullaby and Pictures of you are my favs
If you ever saw the movie Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo then that's where you heard this song before.

Best Songs by The Cure (IMO)...Pictures of You, In-between Days, It' Friday I'm in Love
Hi! I always put them in the “New Wave” era. I LOVE their music and spent many hours listening, singing and dancing to them in the 80’s. (I’m 54 now)…Love Cats is a fun little song…Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
Dinosaur Jr. covered this song and was featured in an old skateboarding movie "blind' i think during the Jason Lee segment
i heard the dinosaur jr version first😊
This is my favorite song of theirs. It reminds me of my junior high, high school years. People started dressing goth around that time.
The lady in white on the video is Robert Smith's wife, Mary Poole ❤
And I believe they are still married after over 30 years.
Couple of things I find enduring with The Cure is 1) Robert Smith's voice, never ages. 2) With their singles, Their intros are bonkers catchy as hell. This one a prime example of that.
You know a band is great when their live performances sound identical, if not better than their studio versions.

It popped up on your recommendations after this video, would love you to try Echo and The Bunnymem, The Killing Moon.
this is one of the most intriguing song structures ever recorded ... i will say right off the bat that kiss me kiss me kiss me is my favorite cure album - it was the transition piece between the early "goth" flavored things, towards a more experimental yet pop flavored sound ...
this was the "hit" from this record, and probably has more residual play than any other song from this record due to movies, tv shows, etc.
this is the most pop oriented track - however THERE IS NO CHORUS.
mind-boggling.
the structure is as follows:
intro build
verse 1
bridge
verse 2
pre chorus
bridge
verse 3
pre chorus > coda
that non-resolving song structure, coupled with the lyrical content (very edgar allan poe - dead girlfriend, non-acceptance of loss) - leads it to be one of the most disturbing songs i have ever loved.
Rick Beato has a wonderful breakdown of this tune in his "what makes this song great" collection. i bought this the day it released in the US in 1987 - 35 years later Rick broke my brain by explaining why it impacted me so hard for so long ...
I saw them in concert in the late 90's and they were great!
I'm pretty sure this song was huge back when I was in college-late 1980s!
Fun fact, The Cure just dropped their first album in over 10 years, just last month. Broke 5 music records in a week.
The Cure is such a deep and rich hole to jump into. If you like songs that are about building and layering new elements as the song goes on, then Close to Me is just one of the best for that. There's a South Park that Robert Smith saves the world.

🤣 For some reason, that gave me Grandpa Simpson vibes, especially the one episode where he rants about how he used to be “With it” till they changed what “IT” was and now what’s it is weird and scary to him.
The cure is fabulous. One of my favorite group of the 80s & 90s. So much great music. You should react to them live from their hall of fame induction.
There is a really good movie Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo, that uses this song, so may sound familiar from that
They still sound exactly the same today!
The original Goth/Emo look
I was in 6th form when this came out, it brings up so many vivid teenage memories, I saw them live at the Birmingham NEC that year.
I never got into The Cure, but I still have respect for their music.
this song was released in 1987, classic 80s new wave sound!!
My favorite Cure album is Disintegration. The whole thing is fire! 🔥
🙌💯 Came here to say this!! Best album EVER for a rainy afternoon or a melancholy mood or just when I’m feeling nostalgic. Great to fall asleep to, cook to, study to, cuddle to, take on a roadtrip…. 🔥🔥
Massive catalogue of work to look at. Formed in 1976 and have just been ranked by the music press in the UK as having one of the best albums of 2024
Robert wrote this for his wife and it was played at their wedding
"Love Cats" - The Cure Another Classic
The Cure have so many great songs, just keep looking up songs, you won't be disappointed . Tool is still my favorite band, but The Cure are definitely in my top 5
Love the Cure, have seen them in Hamburg in these ancient times…

Favorite song from them!❤
original goths 🖤
so many great songs...
‘boys don’t cry’ is one of theirs
although my personal favourite is ‘10.15 saturday night’
Oven mitts and🧯req'd for each Cure LP that goes on the turntable- every track is 🔥
This song is 1987. The Smashing Pumpkins did not form until 1988.
The cure was amazing ❤
Just Like Heaven was released in 1987. It inspired the 2005 movie 'Just Like Heaven'.
Brilliant love the cure ❤️
This is the more pop-y side of The Cure... their older stuff is good too... I would recommend Lullaby or 10:15 On a Saturday Night
Their first single was about a character in the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus.
One of the best bands of their generation 🎶🎵🔥🤌🙏💪🐝🍀🇬🇧
Pictures of you is a must!! Long version!
You missed this band. Im 52. The Cure were huge. Many amazing catchy feely songs. The way to a chicks heart when I was 18. Their competition was The Smiths. Both were the bands of the EMO style kids.
Edward Scissorhands' look was based on Robert Smith of The Cure... How have you been alive in the past 40 years and NOT know The Cure????
It sounds familiar because it’s an iconic song and it’s been played in movies
You nailed the vibe it is the era of John Hughes movies
I fkn love the cure ❤
Teenagers about to make out in a movie is a possible vibe. But I've always felt it was the point where the guy sees the girl he wants making out with the first guy's mortal enemy. This is my absolutely favorite Cure song ever and I've been a fan since the 80's. Great choice and great reaction
I was a closet fan. For years it was kinda taboo but today I proudly claim to be a Cure fan.
Goth Rock at it.
One of many songs he wrote for his wrote for his wife😊
One of my wedding songs! ❤️
Love The Cure. can be surprisingly upbeat & happy, despite all the Gothness. They do a wonderfully creepy track called lullaby; the video will give you nightmares.

Dude, yup must check out The Cure - A Forest (Live 1992)
Amazing song but the extended live version is Epic!!!! 🎉
