This has quickly become my favorite blender channel no contest, really brings back the genuine curiosity that attracted me to the program in the first place
Oh I love this! I have a degree in entomology and seeing your dedication to learning the anatomy of our good beetle friend warms my heart. I'd love to see your take on a treehopper, as they're less known and very sculptural insects.
Discovering a share a world with someone who calls themselves 'sneepsnorp3d' & does blender videos is the best birthday present ever. Your refined sense of cuteness is like the digital hug I really needed to help keep me going on another 30-some yrs. Thank you so much for existing 🤗😘😅
As a kid at the bus stop, I'd see fallen acorns on the sidewalk. Some of them of course had holes bored into em. Some of them were split open and I'd see the little larvae squirming around. I thought they needed a little protection, so I'd hold onto them until the bus came, at which point I'd hide them, often away from the sidewalk in some dirt patch somewhere. So I guess without knowing it, I was helping the larvae get to where they need to be.
Hi hi! Acorn weevils are one of my favorite kinds of weevils and your model is just as cute as they are in real life! The animation at the end was so precious. You should look up jewel weevils, they have the same shape as acorn weevils but are rainbowy! In the video you mentioned that some acorn weevils you saw on the internet had antenae right at the start of their rostrum. The reason for this is because when the weevil bores into an acorn it tucks the first half of its antenae backwards into little slits in its rostrum. This gives the appearence that it has tiny antennae right at the start of its snoot. Acorn weevils do actually show sexual dimorphism as the males have shorter rostrums than the females. One last thing! If there is a hole in an acorn it means that the grub has burrowed out of the acorn and has gone to live underground. So while a weevil was living there, it is now just a vacant acorn filled with ground up acorn and weevil poop.
I would be impressed by a shark using a computer, but the sheer skill in making this cutie baffles me even more than that. This is brilliant - and thank you for the etymology facts! Inverts are so good ❤
it's also pretty easy to set up yourself just create an additional material on the object that is a single colour emission shader with backface culling on then add a solidify modifier with flipped normals and material offset set to 1, and there you go you can change outline thickness my altering the solidify thickness, and you can even use vertex groups to selectively change the outline thickness in certain regions
damn, you`re really making me want to try and make my own low poly models. I know these aren`t exactly tutorials. but what seems like a very intimidating process is a lot more posssible than what i thought
thank you! :) i do stream once a month for sneepsnorp club right now, but i haven't found a way to work regular public streams into my schedule quite yet. hopefully soon! i'd like to stream more
this popped up on my feed and i was obsessed- this made it look like so much fun to model, something i've previously written off as out of my wheelhouse. perhaps... i will retry blender again !
Aww the lil guy Also, watching your timelapses has renewed my confidence in my own modeling process, so thanks for that! And yes, I would love to see your rigging process too!
I freaking love your modeling work your very talented, also thresher sharks are awesome, they use they're tails like whip to stun they're prey also really good for swimming.
acorn weevils have little channels in their rostrum that they can tuck about half of their antennae into. that might contribute to the disparities in antennae placement you were seeing
yeah so i just wanna say ive seen this video 10 hours ago and 10 hours ago ive decided it is time to funally learn how to blender. i am proud to say i have modeled my wacky oc all on my own!! (with beginner tutorials ofc) so yeah, thanks for giving me the motivation to finally get a move on :]
small note on an otherwise excellent video: the rostrum is not a nose, but elongated mouth parts with chewing bits at the end. kinda like an anteater or aardvark but ✨️bug✨️
frog detective could never. …actually scratch that, frog detective absolutely could. i just wanted to leave a comment expressing how much i think this lil guy would be at home in a frog detective game
This prayer is dedicated to the weevil worship From the hardest nuts, to the softest rice grain. Weevil may you bring us glee and spirituality. We work for your glory, bring us light throughout the dark. Take our offerings and rebuild your faith in us. Thank you weevil lords. Amen
The reason some pictures of acorn weevils have the antennae connected into the head is because while they drill their antennae get in the way so they tuck them in side side channels called scrobes❤
I've seen you on tiktok and didn't realize you had a youtube channel! Such a cute model, I painted a weevil recently and they're such funky little fellows. Love your work
bit late to the party, but when you were talking about their antennae and how some of your pictures had them much closer to their face than others. There is actually a channel called scrobe in both sides of their rostrum where part of the antennae can be tucked away into so it doesn't get in the way of their hole boring efforts. If you want more info, the channel Deep Look did a video on them a little while ago.
WEEEEEEVIL TIIIIIIIME!!!!!!!!!!! i modeled a pigeon sometime last year, but idk if I posted a timelapse of him? he had a little scarf and winter hat :,)

I thought that was what the acorn weevle got named. In relation to its nose. It’s her username but still a great name for an acorn weevle.

AW HELL YEAH I LOVE ACORN WEEVILS!!
For anyone wondering how to get this outline to your model. Its a free addon named Outline Helper^^
it's also pretty easy to set up yourself
just create an additional material on the object that is a single colour emission shader with backface culling on
then add a solidify modifier with flipped normals and material offset set to 1, and there you go
you can change outline thickness my altering the solidify thickness, and you can even use vertex groups to selectively change the outline thickness in certain regions
@@INTCUWUSIUAOutline helper is free and wayyyy easier to apply

The reason some pictures of acorn weevils have the antennae connected into the head is because while they drill their antennae get in the way so they tuck them in side side channels called scrobes❤
Of course doing the rigging would be boring, thats what weevils do!
