  • Tyreek Hill agreed to a four-year, $120 million dollar deal with the Miami Dolphins yesterday after they sent five draft picks to the Kansas City Chiefs for the superstar receiver in a surprising trade. The new deal makes the NFL’s fastest man the highest-paid wide receiver in league history. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss whether Patrick Mahomes will be exposed more without Tyreek or Tua Tagovailoa with him.

The Tyreek Hill trade came as an absolute shock to every Chiefs fan. This is a huge loss. But this move reminds everyone the NFL is a business. The Chiefs were force to do something they didn’t want to do but got a huge haul back for it. They’ll won’t replace Tyreek, you can’t think like that. But they’ll go for a Chris Olave, Jameson Williams, Trey Burks, Dotson or a Chris Watson. Maybe a couple of those guys. They also now have cap space to sign a guy like Stephon Gilmore, James Bradberry or Kyle Fuller, and Jadeveon Clowney. They can become more balanced as a team. And this move happened in March. We gotta give the benefit of the doubt to offensive genius of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes to work the entire off-season to figure it out. They’ll miss Cheetah but this will force Mahomes to adapt and become better. Think Matthew Stafford post Calvin Johnson or Baker Mayfield post Odell’s injury. People like Skip and casuals are funny because they just want the Chiefs to fail. It will work out in the long run

It’s absolutely a huge loss. But in context it makes sense. A WR is much easier to replace than a franchise QB. You can live with it because while it sucks to see him go, they at least got big compensation in return compared to what a GB got. There isn’t a replacing Tyreek though. Huge loss but in context of the contract etc it makes sense. They’ll likely be worse this year, but with solid drafting I think they can win the trade long term.

Hardman almost lead the team in YAC yardage... Just slightly behind Kelce with less than half the targets Tyreek got. 🤷‍♂️ In fact, 500 of the 700 yards he put up was YAC yardage. Only two drops in 80 targets. He finished like 8th overall in the league with all those other dudes getting like 140 targets outside of Austin Ekeler (96 targets). So if you are keeping score... that means Tyreek got 160 targets and finished 3rd on the Chiefs in YAC.
Now Hardman gets to slide into that role in Andy Reid's playbook.

You just have to get more creative in order to get Tyreke them targets and touches since Tua doesn’t have the cannon of Mahomes. Plus I think this makes Miami a team that can be hard to stop because Tyreke and Waddles speed will allow for more creative plays on line of scrimmage and in the backfield to help Tua.

They got behind and put him back in to win it... Hill, Kelce and most of the starters were resting... Mahomes won throwing to Albert Wilson and Chris Connolly... In his 2018 highlights, there are several that were Mahomes to DeMarcus Robinson... Last year at end of season, Hardman and Pringle (twice) were top receivers with both having 100 yard games... Mabomes had to lose most of his deep balls last year and had to play a short field and figured it out... So he will be fine, there is only one Hill, but still a lot of good receivers out there, and playing with Mahomes is a plus for recruiting.. So KC / Mahomes will be fine... Just My Humble Opinion...

Yet Mahomes has still had great numbers every year and went to the AFC Championship each year to boot... @@c.mendoza6911 Major issue I believe KC considered is injury and not necessarily Hill's production. An injured player with a massive hit to the salary cap is a terrible situation. With Hill getting older (relative to NFL) I believe he's not going to be resilient as his younger days. Also, having teams key onto a specific player is not necessarily a bad thing if you have other receivers (e.g. Kelce) that can capitalise on said situation. Again, if KC paid Hill to stay, it makes it difficult to obtain good receivers that will pick up the slack when Hill's production is low.

It more to do with Andy Reid. Since Mahomes took over Andy has been gun blazing with deep pass and little to no balance with running and chain moving pass plays until this past season because of defenses taking Tyreek out and they were doing it with single coverage but with a 2 man saftey look. Mahomes got so much better playing small ball and in the AFC championship game it blew it because he went back to deep ball with little to no running. It's time for Mahomes to earn his contract and also to get Andy back to play balance ball lime he did with Alex but still have Mahomes elite throwing abilities.

We will just have to see because if the Dolphins start out lets say 5-0 and Tua having a good season so far they going to be doing that old walk back and I hate this stigma about Bama players if they get drafted in the 1 rounds people already ready for them to be a draft bust

This might actually be a blessing in disguise. Patrick has forced the ball to tyreek a lot in the past AFC championship interception case in point. He did good in games without him statistically. Yes less deep threat but now mahomes gets to prove how great he is and will definitely take what defenses give him for a more balanced offense.

Tua has had the worst offensive line in football in Miami. I don't know what the media can't grasp with that. He has less then 3 seconds to throw the ball nearly every single play. Give the kid a bit of time an we are going to see what he's got in that arm. Looked pretty good at Bama throwing to track stars when he wasn't getting hit before he could take 3 steps.

it seems with all of our moves we’re looking to become a true perineal franchise built around mahomes. other players ask for too much pie and they’ll get served out. we seem to draft exceptionally well aside from the wr position (aside from hill, speed > receiver imo). rebuild the ship and when it looks like it’s our year we strike

This is easy, no matter what happens this season we all know if healthy Pat Mahomes is the starting QB in KC in 2023; Tua has this season and this season alone to prove he can be a starting QB in the NFL. If he clicks with Hill and has a great season he'll get the bag. If it doesn't work he'll be released and the dolphins will draft his replacement in the 2023 NFL draft.
