Nice seeing you again :) When this album came out I had tickets for a live concert two weeks later. I had surprise tickets for a freind of mine and I had secretly arranged wirh his girlfried I would pick him up in the morning, not telling what for. The two weeks I used to memorize all the lyrics. About the song: I never warmed to it but alway liked the choice of instrumentation, the clapping, the bells. Enjoyable to watch and listen to your reaction.
I remember the Melody Maker review of the album (I can't remember who the reviewer was). They called it a "horrible, horrible, horrible album". I don't agree, obviously. "Off the Ground" turned up on my iPod the other day. It sounded fine.
Oh yeah, Off The Ground, Baby!!! A banger album!!! On this album, Paul has a consistent band lineup comprising of Linda, Hamish Stuart, Robbie Mclintosh, Paul Wix Wickens and Blair Cunningham.
Hey guys, great to see you back. I was probably the biggest advocate for Tripping The Live Fantastic, but it's ok if you decided to only do studio albums as of now. I just thought listening to TTLF and, especially, the Unplugged live album was the perfect experience to understand the transition of sounds, atmosphere and mood between Flowers In The Dirt and Off The Ground, an album very much inspired by the mood of the acoustic 1991 show. I have a soft spot for this album, even if it's always considered a "minor" work compared to what precedes and follows it, but I for one prefer this LP to Flowers In The Dirt: Less 80ish, more rocky with some very good tunes in it. More consistent, let's say. This title track has been issued as a single, even if not the lead single. It was actually the third track from this LP released as a 45. It's one of the very first McCartney tracks to use digital sounds, generated by a computer. It's quite likable, especially its rhythmic pattern of claps and breaths, and I enjoy the slide solo, still this isn't one of my favourite songs in the album, which contains some absolute pearls. Also the video for this song was a bit lame, if I can say it
@@coryclarksounds Tripping The Live Fantastic is a more warts and all Paul live album than Wings Over America. Paul's vocals during the 1989/90 world tour were quite ragged in places compared to 10 years earlier. Paul sounded better live in 2002/03 than he did in 89/90 and 93.
Robbie McIntosh kills the guitar on this track. You are so right to love it. I'm right there with ya. They did a video with Paul flying - for this song... check it out: ua-cam.com/video/0BlK7sx6syo/v-deo.html This is a live performance of the song: ua-cam.com/video/5eqqKxZ1jXE/v-deo.html
I will say was slightly disappointed with album, after the preceding MTV Unplugged and Tripping the Live Fantastic albums. Not that this a bad sounding album, I was just hoping for more of the feel this lineup had live. They were so good live.
Welcome back you guys! I don't think this album is too front-loaded. I loe Golden Earth Girl and the McManus co-writes, and for some reason C'mon People doesn't feel that long. So no serious dips, although I think the highs on Flowers In The Dirt are just that tiny bit higher.
Cosmically Conscious didn’t make it to this album but it’s arguably one of the best songs from the session. Highly recommended. It’s a Maharishi inspired song.
@@maybeimamazedtribute Yes, but it's not the complete track. You should check out the complete version of the song that only came out as a B-side of a single. On the album you only get to hear a short snippet…
I think the album is more cohesive than Flowers In The Dirt. but overall it's a lower tier McCartney album with less great songs than Flowers. I saw the 1993 tour twice and the Off The Ground songs tended to really pale next to The Beatle and Wings stalwarts.
Cant go wrong with new line up and the addition of Robbie Macintosh is excellent, since coming over from one of my favorite 80's band, the Pretenders.
Outstanding sound...top level! ROX REVOLUTION is all in!
Went to the second concert on the tour for this album. Very good. My daughter wears the Biker Like An Icon t-shirt I bought there.
This was the 1st PM concert I attended in Sydney Australia!! 19 shows later still amazed!
I agree about the slide. Great tone.
Glad to see you back--I've really been enjoying your deep dive into McCartney. And I really like this song!
Welcome back! Love this - airy, breezy perfection

Yeah, I was looking for you yesterday, but I figured you took the holiday off. Nice to have the two tracks today to make up for it!

AWESOME!
Yayyy you're back! Keep 'em coming
Yay! Glad to be back with ya!
You got it right on the first try! It's key-op!😄

C;mon People isn't that long. It has the hidden track, Cosmically Conscious at the end.
@@debjorgo how could I have forgotten about that?!

Yes... and this live performance of it from 2009 is pretty great: ua-cam.com/video/Qvv5YwKnkbU/v-deo.html
@@barbarjinx3802 I second this suggestion
It actually comes in at the end of track 12. You'll see

React to singles... they are all in THE album. The 7 songs box...
I believe the foundation of this song was a buildup of sounds that Wix did with Paul. So I’m unsure how live to tape this one was.
