I hate that song personally. And i really miss when you're a duet reviewing, the interaction is way more fun to tell you my truth. Nothing personnal, you're concept is great i like it ! 🤟

Simply beautiful in the truest sense of the word. A McCartney masterpiece.

George Martin never lost the ability to score McCartney’s work. This arrangement is just perfect.

Top tier McCartney, an absolutely beautiful song. A wonderful melody with nostalgic words. Great arrangement and orchestration. One of my favorites on the album. Somedays gets better every time I listen to it.

I kind of forget how good this one is. It gets lost, for me, on this excellent album.

Another lovely classic song from McCartney. Among my favorites from this album. Paul said this about "Somedays" - "I’d driven Linda to a photo session for one of her cookery assignments. Knowing she’d be about two hours, I set myself a deadline to write a song in that time - so that when she’d finished and would say ‘Did you get bored? What did you do?’, I could say ‘Oh, I wrote this song. Wanna hear it?" Paul recorded the basic track by himself in one session (acoustic guitar, Spanish guitar (for the solo at 3:54), bass, vocals - and producer. He later asked George Martin to listen to the track and see if he might want to add some orchestration. George Marin said this - "When I heard Somedays, it immediately reminded me of the vintage Paul. It’s quite difficult to keep writing hits. Even when you know the greatest hitmaker of all. It was nice to see that Paul was getting back to his roots because I think Somedays is a classic song. I think it’s one of those simple ones, deceivingly simple, but so difficult to write. I loved it, I thought it was terrific. I listened to it and Paul said “what do you think we should do then”. I thought it needed small forces. I needed a chamber group again. So when I scored it, it was very simple instrumentation. Paul liked the idea." A 14-piece ensemble overdubbed their contribution on 10 June, 1996. They included... 4 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 2 flutes, 1 alto flute, 1 oboe, 1 harp and 1 percussionist. The first part is clearly about Linda - but the second part ("Sometimes I laugh... I laugh to think how young we were.") could be about his early days with John and The Beatles (or it could be about his early days with Linda). Either way... they went through so much at such a young age. But one of my favorite lines from the song is this one... ("Somedays I cry... I cry for those who live in fear."). Always makes think about all the poor souls who have to live through the horrors of a war (like in the Ukraine). Imagine you are living your everyday life in a peaceful existence... and then a neighboring country starts blowing up your homes and buildings with bombs and rockets - for no reason.

I always considered this a very nice tune. Moving lyrics, fantastic and very fitting instruntation. A great McCartney ballad. Interesting you thinking of Paul's relation to Linda, because she was dying in 97.

I really enjoy this entire album! This is one of Paul's best solo albums so it's too bad that Cory missed listening to it with you. I hope he checks it out before you guys do the next album so we can hear his overall thoughts. There's a bit of somberness to this album as so much of it reminds me of Linda. It was mostly written and recorded after she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in December 1995 (then died in April 1998). It would have been a long hard road for them during her illness and treatments. The next album (Run Devil Run) is almost all covers (3 originals) of old songs done in tribute to her because she loved that music so much when she was young and it was something they had in common when they first met.

I'm in the minority among McCartney fans because "Flaming Pie" is not one of my favorite albums by him. There are great songs like the album closer "Beautiful Night," average songs like this one, and filler like "Really Love You." It's a solid album but tends to be unfairly favored over equally strong 1980s albums.

Really like this track

This track has such a great vibe, it's too bad the lyrics are so trite. Steve's guitar really sings.

One of my least favorite on the album (the lyrics aren't good), but it's still a solid track. Just goes to show how strong an album this is, because there's not a bad song on it.

It's a song that is meant to be fun... the lyrics being not much more than an afterthought. Paul and Steve Miller make a very nice combination. They work well together. Not one of the album's best tracks... but I still enjoy it.

I think this is a decent song with the lead guitar being the highlight--I wouldn't go to this song but I wouldn't skip it if listening to the album.

A bottom-3 song on the album for me. But it's still pretty good. Feels like it needed a little more variation the 2nd/3rd time through. Just shows how high the overall quality of the album is, though.

Love the Steve Miller´s contribution on this album!

The guitar work here is mostly done by Steve Miller. That Steve Miller, from the Steve Miller Band. Paul and Steve had first crossed paths in the 60s, and Paul had recorded drums and bass on one of Miller songs, My Dark Hour, back in 1969 right after a critically heated business meeting with the other Beatles concerning Allen Klein management. McCartney, revisiting that song 25 years after with his son James, thought that reconnecting with Miller could be a cool idea so the two of them met at Miller's studio in Idaho in early 1995 to work out a couple of songs. Some months later Miller came to the UK to Paul's Hog Hill Mill Studio to work on some more songs, including this one, a "Stereotyped American road trip song", composed on the road by Paul during the 1993 New World Tour, in Minneapolis. The song was actually played live for the first time during a soundcheck in San Antonio. Being a "road trip" song, I think Paul was more after an appropriate sound, a "vibe" song, so the lyrics were kept at a minimum. Steve Miller was the perfect man for this kind of tune, and his guitar work is perfect. Paul plays pretty much all the rest (12 string acoustic, bass, drum and some electric work)

Paul, flashing his wallet on this one. The Beatles never minded talking about how they were going to get rich one day. This is it. Not bad for a 'dip' in the album. It only gets better from here.

Great song

One of my favorite songs on the album, one of 4 songs Paul did with Steve Miller. Paul is the sole producer, Steve is playing the hot guitar stuff.

One of Paul's better rockers. This is one I really wish Paul and the guys would've gotten around to doing live at some point.

Paul - bass, acoustic and electric guitar, piano, drums, percussion. Jeff Lynne - acoustic and electric guitar, keys and harmony vocal. This was the second single from the album. It went to #14 in Canada, #23 in the UK. Didn't make the top 50 in the US... but it should have. It's a great track. Hard for me to believe it's been 27 years since this LP came out. I've been listening to the album - just because you are doing it. Still one of my favorites.

This song was the album's lead single in the US, but not in the UK and in Europe, where Young Boy was the leadoff single that got some airplay (Even in Italy!)

As on the majority of the songs on this album, Paul handles drums and main electric guitar duties himself. It was written on album's release that Linda really encouraged Paul to play his heavier guitar style for the record, a way of playing she really loved on Macca's part but that he was always a bit coy in showing on records (With notable exceptions, of course). I also very much enjoy Paul's piano work on this song. Paul and Jeff are the only musicians on this song, with Lynne contributing acoustic and electric guitar parts as well as harmony vocals and keyboards.

This is such a yummy album! I was 13 and it was the first new album by a Beatle that I bought as a new release (not counting Anthology). I was so happ with it!
