Shit, I remember in 95, when I was senior, a dude in school got his inheritance, and first thing bought a 4runner and a big Rockford system. I remember it had two fifteen and maybe a Punch600? Was that the big dog back then? 25 years ago, seems like yesterday.
+snooketcher in 1997 I ran 3 JL audio 15w6 off that one amp...lol...140+ DB off that little amp and still those shitty JL surrounds would rip after a few months .
I had the all gray model before the a2, the 125.2 and I bridged it mono down to 0.5ohm on 4 kicker solobarics (ying-yang series) back in the day. Man those old RF amps were tanks 😍
Oh I still have this model ! Everyone always said they were way underated and I had this bridged on my first sub... No wonder it kicked and rumbled :-)
God reminds me of the late 90s 2 solobaric 12s at .88 on a power. 500 before they changed it to 550 rocking it delivering pizzas. Oh the simple life. Still my fav heat sinks with the links it looked great
@@Funnygalsproductions I prefer the Power 1100a2 got x2, a Power 800a4 chrome, Power 800a4 standard black, power 500a2, and a punch 120a2. All bought new 20 years ago and all pounding strong. The 800a4 chrome is still wrapped up new. Best amps you can buy period. But the bass knobs are getting impossible to replace.
Had a 800a2 back in the day. Couple punch xlc. Found a brand new rfx2 that I'm using for some mids in my car. Rocking a punch hx2 along with a kicker kx700.5. Took a while to find all of it, but brings back good times
I had a punch 40.2 which I assume was the same amplifier internally, but produced in 1996. Had it hooked up to a JBL 15 and it beat quite nicely. Thanks for testing one of these out as it always seemed to out perform the numbers on the box.
I have the 55.2 that I still pump till this day, with the end caps. Used to power my dual 10's 24 yrs ago. Now I power my dual 6.5 subbies in my garage
I just scored a Punch 200 4a for $5 at the scrap yard today! It looks to be in perfect condition, as in installed, used and stored away for some reason. It'll be years before I get around to hooking it up.....
I used to have this same amp, bought it when I was 15 and im 30 now. I also had a 800/2. With 2 10" Punch XLC's. speaking of which I still have a 10" XLC sitting in the closet. This vid brought back good memories.. I bet if the Electrolytic Caps were replaced in this amp it would do great for another 20 yrs. :)
BassheadGTP Yes, for reliability, if I was going to use in a daily driver, I'd probably recommend replacing caps. I've talked to Ray Rayfield at Linear Power before and he said it's not always necessary to replace caps on amps and he has some from the 70's that are still original and working
Nice to see some numbers. I picked one up a few years ago needing repaired for extremely cheap. Repaired it and used it to power a couple low watt 10s for a year then sold the combo. Was a decent amp
old school punch amps ain't no punks!!! I had this exact amp hooked to 2 10" mtx thunder 4500's, bridged, in my SUV and it hit so hard I had to keep rearview mirror adhesive in my glovebox. I'm a believer for life.
The a2 series was brought out for Best Buy. The .2 series was for Authorized Dealers. They had different model or power ratings but not sure if the overall Quality was any different.
subscribed!..man brings alot of memories. I had this amp hooked to 6x9 in a Buick and then I fell in love with RF... Dude do you know of anyone fixing old school Rockford amps
Yes, Jason Gibson at Freeman's Stereo in Charlotte repairs old RF amps. Freeman's has a lot of NOS parts they bought from Rockford. His email is repair (at) freemansstereovideo dot com
I had one of the silver 100.2 amps from the series before this (mine was from 1997 I believe) that was a little beast. I used to drop a lot of jaws when people saw that little amp. Most people laughed in disbelief when I told them I only had 100 watts. Like Big D said it wasn't widow shattering but it sounded good.
eawrightjr i use to have the good and sliver one and spent $600 when I was making $8 something a hour but it was worth it. Later I had the black and silver version. Both were great amps and I regret getting rid of them.
I was very lucky, I found one besides the road a lady was cleaning out her storage, it was a punch power 200 a 1 , it had chipped paint and the bottom was rusty like it had been rained on and sitting in water, I took it home and sanded it down and painted it flat black, and it still worked, I have it pushing a wdx g5 2.4 15 inch sub it sounds very good.
Hello I have a Rockford fosgate punch 360.6 and I've had it for years, it was given to me by my father. I don't know much about it other than it sounds amazing! Haha
He did the power 800a2 and i did run 2 of the regular 800a2's and his power test lined up with those birthsheets so i have full confidence mine were also very correct... I also ran 2 250a2's on my doors so this test is close enough for my birthsheets also
As of right now I have sitting in the corner .... 150a2 , 201s, 501s and two punch p2 10s this was in my 2002 Ford focus with some coaxial front and back....was so loud I could make random people dace on the street as I rolled through. Love hatch backs, every thing is louder in a hatch.
Good day sir I have a rockford fosgate punch 500a2 I normally don't use fuses on them but now I know how seriously important is to do so, my question is what type and size fuses should I install on my amplifiers ?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just got back into Rockford Fosgate amps since the 80s. I don't understand the difference between the 250@2 the a series. If the punch 45.2 series the same as the 80s series I used to use. Are these amp better than the the 1990 punch 45s? Thank you, Stacey
I just purchased a 98-2000 fosgate 600a4. It's my second ever amp and I'm curious to learn more about these old school beasts. What kind of power should I expect to see this actually make you think?
From new, still have and are still going. Punch 120a2, Power 500a2, Power 800a4, Power 800a4C, & a Power 1100a2. Wonder if the 120 would hold 2 ohms stable...?
Me and a couple friends in high school had these amps. We had the 360s. I ran mine bridged at 1ohm on 2 jl w612s. It would get hot and shut off after playing it for a while but it would take it. That was before i knew about ohms or anything really. I just knew how to hook them up and i knew if i wired my subs parallel they would be louder lol. My 15s were 4 ohms ran parallel bridged to the amp, 1 ohm. It would play for an hour or 2 than get hot and shut off. Id let it cool for a little while than do it again lol.
Hi Derik , Big Wiz, Have a question I just got an oldschool Rockford fosgate punch power 250x2 dsm silver in color and would love to see the real results In wattage wise . I would like to send in for you to test it …if you have the time and we can all see how deep this lil beast can handle. Please tell what do you think? I’m in San Diego cali. I’ll ship it.
I have the 50.2 I believe. It's not here so I can't be 100% certain but 95%. It's the one that has the small board on the belly that you pull out spin it 180° and go from high pass to low pass. Yeah you are!
I love the Rockford videos, always a happy ending on the dyno. Even the budget ones gave us more than rated.
Can't wait for you to do the punch 500a2 test
I ran this in tri-way configuration. Yes, 2 6x9s, and one 12" 4 ohm JBL with a 100hz in-line filter. Never had a problem.
That’s sick never heard of doing that
I have a 1997 Rockford 200.2 that still performs flawlessly! Such a great sounding amp!
+snooketcher in 1997 I ran 3 JL audio 15w6 off that one amp...lol...140+ DB off that little amp and still those shitty JL surrounds would rip after a few months .

+Bob Jary 💪 strong like bull
Love the older fosgates
You know by now I 💘 Rockford Fosgate!
I own 2 of these power series amps, power 800a4 and power 1100a2. Ive had them for a few years now and I absolutely love them.
God reminds me of the late 90s 2 solobaric 12s at .88 on a power. 500 before they changed it to 550 rocking it delivering pizzas. Oh the simple life. Still my fav heat sinks with the links it looked great
lets here it for BigDWiz!!! man I love watching your videos!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I had one of these running a 10 inch old school kicker behind the seat of my truck- it just pounded! Sweet little amp. Wish I still had it.
Awesome video! I've got the 160a2 and now I have a better idea of the power rating! Amazing underrated amps these were! Thanks big D!
I just found one in my garage!!! Cant wait to put it in my car!
Please post a test of the 800a2, I'm dying to see. I am running one on my pair of PowerDVC 15's Rfr2215 and am thinking of picking up a second one...
Steve Young 800a2 is a BEAST!
If you got some old school MB quarts "q" series ..... unbelievable sound! I did a customer car and that was a lesson in sound

Revisiting an old vid but a goodie!
i had punch back in the mid 90s. now my son getting hes
i installed countless amounts of these back in the day.

They are very similar internals
One of my favorite amps of all time! One of these pushing 2 MTX blue thunders. It slammed
I have the 55.2 that I still pump till this day, with the end caps. Used to power my dual 10's 24 yrs ago. Now I power my dual 6.5 subbies in my garage
I have a 100a2. Got it in 1996 I think and haven't used it in about 10yrs. Might have to hook it up sometime.

+eawrightjr doesn’t take huge power to make a big difference in a simple system
The 100.2 was most likely rated at 50 watt x 2 @ "4 ohms". A 100a2 would be 50 watts x2 @"2 ohms". so the older one you have is a beast.
eawrightjr i have the same amp i recently bought it along with a championship power pro pioneer 12 and 2 10s and a 500w amp
eawrightjr i use to have the good and sliver one and spent $600 when I was making $8 something a hour but it was worth it. Later I had the black and silver version. Both were great amps and I regret getting rid of them.
I would really like to see that 360.6 on the Dyno. I have one and have always wondered how it truly does for output. Thanks again BigD
Nice Vid! Seems like that little guy was designed to rock out some 6x9s in stereo mode!
I have this in my car right now powering a Kicker L5 10'' DVC. Sounds great!!
Most awesome video as always Dereck thank you for taking the time again love that amplifier I have an 882 needs fixed / capacitors ;)
John Work thanks for the comment. Did you call Pioneer about that head unit?
I was going to just didn't have the time I will keep you in the loop brother and thank you again!
Hello I have a Rockford fosgate punch 360.6 and I've had it for years, it was given to me by my father. I don't know much about it other than it sounds amazing! Haha
Keep it up big d
Thanks brother 🤙
Big D ya need to test the punch 800a2

This amp pushed my old school comp vr 12s great
U had that exact amp on 2 12s?
Big d wiz, keep it old school bro
Did they test the punch 200x2 I still have one in great condition still along with the 120a 2
As of right now I have sitting in the corner ....
150a2 , 201s, 501s and two punch p2 10s this was in my 2002 Ford focus with some coaxial front and back....was so loud I could make random people dace on the street as I rolled through. Love hatch backs, every thing is louder in a hatch.

Do a old school rockford fosgate 500a2 bench test
Gotta admit, that's better than I expected and I expected good things.
Mickey Pietrzak Me too! I'm not sure why I forgot 2 ohms mono certified, but I'm sure it would handle it. Will try soon and post results on FB
Dereck BigDWiz I was kinda wondering about that, but still impressive even without. Put a fan on that thing and surprise some people.
Mickey Pietrzak Right! Funny thing is I thought this joker got hot, looked back at my pics of the Orion 225 HCCA and it got to 140 degrees! Ofrion!!
Dereck BigDWiz Yeah, honestly, 130 isn't so bad. Even 140. Though, put that thing in a trunk in the middle of the summer and it may end up being 180.
Nice... I used to have one back in the days. Hooked up to a Pioneer subwoofer.
Rocky Stinson It's not easy to tell by the video, but this little amp was pushing those subs nicely!
Dsm series and the .2 are the beat amp RF ever made
Big numbers for such a small sized amp. I like it!
E. J. Thomas thanks for watching and for the comment!
Mr Wiz can you do a vid on xtant amps if you can find one.
I got a 160a2. Great amp for the size.
Still have one of these bridge connected to a 12 inch sub.. It's not bad.
I had a power 1000 and a 650 power...wish i never sold it on ebay..
Hey I got that one sitting in my garage 😁👍🏼
Yeah boi 🤙
Good little amp. Had one in 2000. After seeing this I should have ran a sub or two not just 4 5x7 door speakers haha. Great in depth review
jasonbc69 Thanks for the comment...strong little amp!
Big D, could you do a old school mtx 1501d. Please
Hey Dereck, I have an old Xtant 121m and was wondering if you have ever tested one or similar amp I am really curious to what it will put out
them bar bque rockford is the beast ....
I ran two of these back in the day. Good amps
😬👍
Hey BigDwiz I have this same amp. Mine has blown fets, could you help me out with getting this old amp fixed?
Contact repair@freemansstereovideo.com or Linear Power. Both repair these amps
Thanks BigDWiz I am a big Rockford guy and want to get this amp back to its former glory!
Thanks I got in touch with the guys and this week I will be sending it out. You definitely earned a sub!
Good old rockford.
Crazy. It just hasnt got any better than this.
Good day sir I have a rockford fosgate punch 500a2 I normally don't use fuses on them but now I know how seriously important is to do so, my question is what type and size fuses should I install on my amplifiers ?
Nice little power house!!
Nice review as always! Can you dyno a power 500@2?
I had a 100 watt monoblock from this time period. But the speaker terminals were separate.
Do you happen to know what amp was used to run the 1994 punch 15” model 815 sub single 8ohm
Dsm series and the .2 are best amp rf ever made
I have the 150 just want to know how to bridge it. Doesn't show on the terminals like other amps
i have a punch 150 a2 and a 500a2...i can't wait to get one hooked up...What size speakers do you suggest on each of these amps i listed?
How can you tell the models apart I have a punch 500a2 I’m not sure if it’s from 1999 or 2000
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just got back into Rockford Fosgate amps since the 80s. I don't understand the difference between the 250@2 the a series. If the punch 45.2 series the same as the 80s series I used to use. Are these amp better than the the 1990 punch 45s?
Thank you,
Stacey
The sheet that came with mine says output was 220W.
I just purchased a 98-2000 fosgate 600a4. It's my second ever amp and I'm curious to learn more about these old school beasts. What kind of power should I expect to see this actually make you think?
Just got me 250a2 in and the shipping company broke a end cap you got any? Be the left one that covers the rca side
From new, still have and are still going. Punch 120a2, Power 500a2, Power 800a4, Power 800a4C, & a Power 1100a2. Wonder if the 120 would hold 2 ohms stable...?
I would like to know if it would hold 2 ohm stable also.
Hi Derik , Big Wiz,
Have a question I just got an oldschool Rockford fosgate punch power 250x2 dsm silver in color and would love to see the real results In wattage wise . I would like to send in for you to test it …if you have the time and we can all see how deep this lil beast can handle. Please tell what do you think? I’m in San Diego cali. I’ll ship it.
I have two of these i got cheap. Look to have never been mounted. Still look minty but end caps are gone.
I have the 50.2 I believe. It's not here so I can't be 100% certain but 95%. It's the one that has the small board on the belly that you pull out spin it 180° and go from high pass to low pass. Is this amp worth putting into a new build? I'll have to use a dsp as it's the 2018 Infiniti q50 and want to retain my factory head unit. As far as power, it's there but would the be a sound quality difference between the old punch vs a new quality amp? What do you think about AudioControl products?
Seems Rockford nailed the clean power using A class .... I remember the amp relied on a stable voltage . If the voltage dropped too low amp suffers power output considerably . Rockford fosgate rep informed us to use eagle power gel battery's with step up transformer to get max power to 16v @500 amps.
The higher you operation voltage more power from what I was told..... like to see that👀
I have 500 a2 sittin in my closet. Should I hook to my alpine type R 750 watt rms sub or just keep my alpine S 60 600 watt amp on it?
have you ever tested an autotek stealth xs1500.1?
I can’t remember the number set but my first amp looked almost like this one but was from 96. It ran a fosgate 15 in my grand am back then.
👌😬👍
Use to be Rockford punch amps and JL audio subs a friend of mine had in his truck and had to keep replacing his front window
😝👍
Whats the difference between the 120a2 and 120x2?
The exact amp I had..awesome big d!
Little beast!
I know . It had great sound too clean.
Do you have a recommendation for a budget multi channel amp?
how about mtx 302 or Phoenix gold 400.2
How amps should rate on the dyno. That is a little power house. I swear i am going to do a system will all old school punch.
can you wire 2 x dvc 4 ohms bridge total 4 ohm . what will be the best wiring setup
Just wondering, my amp reads Punch 120a II, is it before they changed it to a actual number 2?
I've notice no one mentions the xcard that can be flipped
My first system was an older model than this Punch45 pushing two 15s...yes, 2 x 15" lol. It bumped them tho!
Yo Big D, you got a 150a2 to run on the Dyno? I'm curious about those. Thinking about getting one off the bay for my Cherokee.
Thanks for the suggestion
Can I hook up 2-6.5 and 2-6x9 to this amp? If yes...how? Im having hard time figuring it out 😣 thank you Master.
I had the RF 800a2 back in the day used to run it at 2.66ohm on three RF 12 inch xlc and it used to knock!
lstephenson247 I have an 800a2, 1100a2 and Power 500.2 on the way and will test them soon!
Dereck BigDWiz Is the 800a2 modded? I've heard there were some mods for them, and I have a dead one that needs fixing.....
Please do a run of the 800a2 !!!!
had a power 800a2 it was a monster
