Do you think your brother could repair a Rockford Fosgate 200iX? An ex girlfriend stuck a screwdriver into the vents and jammed it around. Rockford Fosgate refused to provide any help so it's just been a paperweight ever since. I sent it to one shop for repair and it came back with 1 non functioning channel and the other with a horrible static crackle that is substantially louder than the music played. I've never opened it to examine the depth of her destruction, so I don't know how severe it is apart from an electrolytic capacitor bouncing around after the destruction (thank goodness for her as well as myself it was not plugged into anything when she did so - it would have likely killed her and caused further damage to the amplifier). I'd love to have it back to life!

Finally a dyno for the 650! Would you have another 650 that is still fully stock to do another dyno run without any of the upgrades done to it like the one in the video? You're most likely already aware, but the ratings up to around 1998 were rated power at 12v weren't they? With unregulated power supply, running 14+v would explain why these amps put out higher numbers. I see that T1000-4 arrived safely. I don't get why most people seem to think that a couple layers of thin bubble wrap alone will protect a 15-20 lbs amp, especially the point corners. There have been too many times I've received damaged, dented, ding'd up, broken amps that I had to send back. Every time that happens there is one less beauty in the world sadly. Sorry just ranting after I saw that nice T1000-4 at the end there
Was introduced to the 650 in the 80's by a friend who installed one in his Volkswagen GTI.....Played Pink Floyd, Dark side of the moon for me. I still have brain damage.....😂

When one channel (or pair of channels) exhibits that lower power, it means the VI limiter is engaging prematurely. You can see the amp jogging back and forth on the current draw. It might be a leaky protection transistor or a bad cap in one of the protection circuits. Worth looking into as it will cause the amp to clip prematurely on certain loads.
Old School - had a Punch 75 and loved it. Never had an issue, but it definitely got hot. New amps today are amazing how much power you can get in such a small package.
I sold/installed equipment in the 80's to today.. Bought 2 of the 650's, and 2 of the 18" subs.....Then bought one of their 140AMP alternators. Then bought one of their 200Amp alternators. Sold the 650's, then bought Zapco's Z220. Still have 6 of them. Sold the Rockford 18" subs. Bought JBL 18"s. Sold them. Currently have 4 x 18" Lanzar's. Still have both Alternators, and a bunch of Zapco EQ's. No fast/take out food for about 6 months paid for all the equipment.
I had a pwr 650 in an 88 mustang GT mated to 2 RF Pro 12's in a slightly oversized sealed enclosure firing backwards into the rear hatch, mated with a couple RF 45s on dash tweets door 6.5s and rear factory location holding midbass 6 x 9s. Really good front stage for the time. Actually hit 136 /138 depending on you trusted the offbrand SPL meter...amd did this with a CASSETTE player.... Nakamitchi/Denon setup.. Really enjoyed this set-up. Lol. I was a kid then.
Badass oldschool Rockford. Never knew that they were so underrated, but the efficiency at 4 ohm 😬🔌💥(my emoji selection doesnt have the big lightning bolt 😣 or the middle firnger either! 😡👎LG keyboard.) 2 ohm wasnt that much higher than thr 4 ohm compared to the increase in power, which suprised me. MORE OLDSCHOOL! For sure. Im a Kicker man personally, current set up is 4 CVR's, 2x 6.5's,2x 6x9's, '01 Alpine 7873 headunit and 2x Power Acoustik RZR 2500's which my be the weakest link but their efficient! I havnt made a recent vid because i been hooking the stuff up. I pretry much just doubled my system. Only thing left is a cheap ass 200 amp alternator off ebay that i just ordered and wiring up my second battery. Everythings been strickly budget based. Subs are used silver gen models, 2x were free and 2x cheap local off of marketplace. Alpine- $25, anothet marketplace steal. Amps- 50 for the first one and just got the second one for 60. Practically new too. Guy only had it a month and used it for a whole week before upgrading. The electrical is costing me though. Cant find used high-out alts or have i ever came across someone selling 25ft of used 1\0 power cable (most expensive single purchase of the whole system except for the Alt i just ordered is freaking $80 for POWER WIRE!). Oh shit i been rambling on. Hell i would have done a rough draft if id known i was gonna spend 20min writing a damn book. Should have just said " 👍 Keep up the good work" but then again who the hell is gonna still be reading this long ass comment anyway. 😝 and for those who do, here is thr funnist emoji combos i can think of...🐑RA🐓+🍭!..... 👉👌👉👌👉👌👉👌❗🙉🙉🙉💩💩💩✌
When we tested the Fosgate Power 650 it didn't make it's power rating. In my buddies vehicle we placed 1st or 2nd in Amateur Enhanced SPL in 1993 at the IASCA world finals in Tulsa. I don't really remember because that was not my focus. Amateur 0-100 watts was it. Martin Mohr had the 1992 world record at 131 db with two Punch 45s and I reset it at 146.7 db using two HiFonics Ulysses in 1993. Remember we had to play commercially available music and the mic wasn't able to be jammed into the loudest spot in the vehicle. If I could go back in time I would have wedged a 4X4 between the floor and roof of the van and picked up a couple of more db. The roof flexed like a mofo. The other van was in the HiFonics demo booth. We hit 153db with it, from the drivers seat. Everybody was there. Fukuda, PJs Autosound, Harry Kimura, you name it. Later on I would live a dream where when I saw Orion make a raft with a stereo on it an float down the salt river in Mesa. Decades later I went to Tempe to Orion HQ and I did go for a float down the salt river. I've done it multiple times and I will do it again. It's a trip worth making from Canada.
Big D have you ever dynoed a Rockford pumch P8002? The one from the early 2000s with the chrome covers. I have a couple of them. Running one on my MB Quarts on my front stage. Curious of the output. I m sure it's close to 1000 watts.
I had a Power 650 running 4 earthquake pro 15’s back in 92-95… and let me tell you that shit would take your breath away! I had it in a 87 Chrysler LeBaron and everything on that car was flexing hard!!! I had mine bridged to 2 channel running at 2 ohms and never had a problem problem with it, it did have its own battery though.
I had one of these in my brand new 91 mustang GT. Another guy I knew had the MOSFET 300 and ran pro series woofers with it. I ran standard series 10s in what was called a voodoo box where two 10's shared a single air space opposed at either end of the ported box. My system destroyed his and my hatchback mustang. I should have been running pro series woofers with that amp. I ran two channels bridged at 325 w and the other two channels for my mid-base stereo. The standard series woofers would eventually damage themselves and start making noise. So I would just replace them periodically. But I got way more sound than the pro series. It took a lot more power to get the same decibels from the pro series speakers at that time.
That amp looks beautiful reconditioned/ refurbished and rewired, but!! Why would your homie put those rusty screws back on ol beautiful??? ACE Hardware! Even Home Depot has your needs.. use stainless steel!
I have a late 80s early 90s Roxford Fosgate punch 600.4. I’ve seen videos on the 800.4 as well 400.4 And all punch amps in between,, but nothing on the punch 600.4.
The power supplies on these did not use MOSFETs believe it or not. They were NPN devices. It was an old design, non PWM, non-regulated self-resonant type converter. Only the output devices were FETs.
Had a 91 civic wagon 4wd with 4 12evs with a power 650 Got car jacked for it ,,,,, but I had taken the amp out the day before To rewire the set up lol😁 very clean sounding amp
There was a super early punch 45,75,150 that was square flat with long straight fins for heat sinks. The treble and boost gain had toggle switches! Very, very early eighties. Anyone else seen these?. They looked super cheap but werent.
I used to watch these guys in my neighborhood install these back in the day. It's how I learned how to install my own stuff. Their car group was called 'Ground Pounders' and they were from Jacksonville NC. If anyone knows of these guys, the guy with the Dodge Daytona was who I learned from.
My dad has this amp mosfet 650 back in 1989 I was 10yrs old he was 28 this was hooked up to 2 15s godfather subs man long story short he sold the truck in 1992 with amp installed 😥 damn the good old days may you RIP dad
Hey, Derrick! Do you think the old school woofers lose their magnetism? EXO showed that his Soundstreams did and I have tons of old woofers that I'm affraid will lose their power or magnetic force.. Is this true? Do your old subs seem weaker??
I remember when my buddy was hooking up my other buddies Rockford fosgate Punch amp any touch the power and ground and smoked it! I'm talkin cream cheese smoke filled the cabin like I've never seen smoke!!! Den lamps used to put out some serious power!!
does shaun have an amp repair company? i have a slash 300/4 v1 that has slightly lower voltage on the left channel vs right (same difference between front output and rear output)
Not this one did bad, but I just watch Steve test the power 300 and it seems like his power 300 did almost what this power 650 did... which leaves you wondering if this unit has some issues that need to be sorted. I would’ve expected it to put out more based on what he got out of the 300 unless his has been modified.
Do you have any access to sip Hi Low chips for the Soundstream 2ch lil wonder rubicon... broke a pin on one and still want to use the amp . Or is there an alternative chip I can use . And also, will it run with just one chip ?
I got into car audio because of this amp on 2 15's. This guy would drive by my house and I could hear him from miles away. I'm proud to say at the age of 44 I now own one of the sweetest white power 650's on the planet... Just sayin...now I know watt it do......
Where is the best place to find info on year model differences on a power 300? I bought one a long time ago from a collector that fell on hard times and he said it was a first year and super rare but it is missing the shroud and bottom plate. It says fosgate only on the bottom.
Thx Biiiig D! Been following for quite some time. RF simply the best. Believe me I have (3) RF Power 650's and a RF Power 300 in my attic which two of the 650's are new. Where you recommend to have my shroud's refreshed? Thanks really appreciate your knowledge.
That's some old school awesomeness right there. You know you got what you paid for when you bought one of those. Pure sonic bliss and tough enough to drive nails!! Awesome video BigD!!
How good are Profile Car Audio amps. Back in high-school I had a Profile California AP600 and then upgraded to a AP2000 later on. I'd love to see an amp dyno on one of these if you can get your ands on one.

Great amps and many still working today!
I missed seeing old school stuff!! Awesome video love the history lesson, please do more!
These were SO far outta reach for a broke kid back in the 1990s. I've seen VERY few of the POWER 650's, nice score Derek!
DAMN TRUTH
Awesome 👏
Awesome! Love the old school Rockford Fosgate amps!!
You and me both brother
Who is left from the 80s? Rockford fosgate passion for performance ... MTX. Serious about sound.. And who? Else.. Kicker?? Jl?
Yeah. I forgot the RF Punch 45 was $250, I don't recall what I paid for the Punch 10" but I remember they were far from being cheap.
Does the amplifier have exchangeable OP amplifiers?
The Golden Age of Car-HIFI
WOW Nice
I got learnt about RF 650’s today!
Werd ✌️
The power supplies on these did not use MOSFETs believe it or not. They were NPN devices. It was an old design, non PWM, non-regulated self-resonant type converter. Only the output devices were FETs.
Had a 91 civic wagon 4wd with 4 12evs with a power 650
Got car jacked for it ,,,,, but I had taken the amp out the day before
To rewire the set up lol😁 very clean sounding amp
Whats up with that Sansui SM-6000, styled in white for $1149.95?!?!
I thought my old punch 40 was old😐🤣I had that and 2 series 1's 12's 😂🤣 probably only 100 watts but sounded good in 95
I work next to where the main office and factory used to be in Tempe AZ. They had a HUGE building. But recently moved to a smaller one up the street.
I remember when my buddy was hooking up my other buddies Rockford fosgate Punch amp any touch the power and ground and smoked it! I'm talkin cream cheese smoke filled the cabin like I've never seen smoke!!! Den lamps used to put out some serious power!!
Yessssss! Thanks bro been waiting on this for years 😁😁
Sorry it took so long!
Have you ever dyno tested a G&S 700 competition
does shaun have an amp repair company? i have a slash 300/4 v1 that has slightly lower voltage on the left channel vs right (same difference between front output and rear output)
I'm looking for a good 1500 watt amp for a mtx tr75 15 thinking about the skar rp 1500.1 any ideas ??
Not this one did bad, but I just watch Steve test the power 300 and it seems like his power 300 did almost what this power 650 did... which leaves you wondering if this unit has some issues that need to be sorted. I would’ve expected it to put out more based on what he got out of the 300 unless his has been modified.
Do you have any access to sip Hi Low chips for the Soundstream 2ch lil wonder rubicon... broke a pin on one and still want to use the amp . Or is there an alternative chip I can use . And also, will it run with just one chip ?
This video made my day. Thanks Big D👍
Thanks brother 👍
I love how you restored that Power 650 back to new again.
I also like the fact that you load all the channels when testing to show its true output.
Thanks brother. I didn’t mention but the 4 ohm stereo tests had the opposing channels bridged at 4 ohms, so they were actually loaded at 2 ohms
@BigDWiz could you test an early model PA bb1250 or a 2250
I got into car audio because of this amp on 2 15's.
Great videos for a big dummy. Lol can you do some theory videos/set-up
First
You win 🤘
1987 in Los Angeles, guys would follow you, this was top tier earthquake amp
Older amps look very confusing to their modern day models
Designed to be listened to loud.. so you don’t hear the fan ☺️
That refinish on the top cover is mind blowing, awesome job done!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I had the 300 Rockfordfosgate 4 channel.
Try next the rockford fosgate t2500 amp
Thx Biiiig D! Been following for quite some time. RF simply the best. Believe me I have (3) RF Power 650's and a RF Power 300 in my attic which two of the 650's are new. Where you recommend to have my shroud's refreshed? Thanks really appreciate your knowledge.
See link in video description, Old School Car Audio Restorations in Cranston, RI
What has better sound quality to you the hi q savard or w6 jl audio
Fosgate💪💪💪
👌😬👍
Love to see ratings on 650 Rockfordfosgate.
the Punch 150 was my goto amp, it all started one day with a pair of 8" Kicker passive rad truck speakers and Alpine 5 1/4 coax's on a punch 45.....
Yeah the 150 was a Mack daddy amp
That's some old school awesomeness right there. You know you got what you paid for when you bought one of those. Pure sonic bliss and tough enough to drive nails!! Awesome video BigD!!
You are correct sir!
What is a good amplifier for 4 8ohm speakers 400rms
Sold 2 of them on eBay for cheap not knowing how high it got now
How good are Profile Car Audio amps. Back in high-school I had a Profile California AP600 and then upgraded to a AP2000 later on. I'd love to see an amp dyno on one of these if you can get your ands on one.
I tested one a few years ago 1999 Profile 1200sx Amp Dyno Test ua-cam.com/video/-Baav5dVi30/v-deo.html
