I grew up in San Jose and went to school with Jackie. I wish that you could have met her, she's one of the kindest most genuine people you ever want to meet.
I agree with you 100% on the cat fish, my number one dish.
I never had the fried chicken because I fry my own. the BBQ sauce is very good.
If you order your food to go, "ALWAYS" check your bag because they are famous for forgetting to put the BBQ sauce in it. (I live 30 minutes away without traffic, not a good feeling when you get home) They forgot me twice and two friends at 2 separate times. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BAG.
However yes, I do recommend Jackie's Place.
That signals they don't care. That's one thing Roscoe's Chix Waffles does is open the bag and go over what's in there before you leave. Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm disappointed you didn't make it in to Back A Yard. I didn't realize they have restaurants in San Jose now too. Next time you're up here try their new place, Clifford’s Chicken & Fish in Mountain View. Its so good I had to stop going because I can't handle all the fried food. 😂 Maybe next time I'll have enough self control to limit myself to just red beans & rice.

I lived in the South Bay for almost 30 years. Cali Spartan is my favorite taco place. Yes, it’s much better than La Vic’s. You were not steered wrong. I love their carne asada crispy tacos. You missed their salsa bar though. Their fresh pico has mangoes in it and elevates the crispy taco even more. Their chips have a wonderful seasoning on them and are delicious too.
I like Jackie’s Place too. It’s better than Back A Yard in my opinion.

Awesome, definitely try Vietnamese and Chinese food in San Jose next time. There's a big population, the pho (pronounced 'Fuh') is an amazing noodle soup and Banh-mi in East San Jose!
