Yes, it is a $40-50 unit and some people might say that it is not worthed spending few hours and $7 to fix, but it feels good when you can revive something and pollute less.

    Thanks so much, fixed my air fryer which was different to yours but similar enough to work it out and couldn't have done it without your video!
    Mine had 2 thermal fuses laid side by side which both tested the same so I replaced them both. The satisfaction of hearing the beep and seeing the lights come on when I plugged in was great considering I found it dumped in the rain waiting for the rubbish truck. Going to be using it for powder coating BTW and not cooking food!

    I have a different model Gourmia air fryer that went dead, but the layout is similar. When I opened it I found one of the spade connectors on the main board had overheated and fried, creating an open circuit. Maybe caused by a cold or poor solder joint. The spade terminal came right off the board when I tried to disconnect the lead. I made a short pigtail lead with a new spade terminal and soldered it to the back of the circuit board and reconnected the lead. It worked! I did not have to disassemble the fryer further to look for the hidden thermal fuse, but thanks for showing how to do it.

    LOL... should have watched this before I threw mine away. I was having the same problem (no power), with a different brand but all the connection concept setups are the same, and I could not figure out what was wrong. There was another fuse on the power motherboard which I test and nothing was wrong. I did not realize there were other fuses embedded into other lines. That is why no matter what I do there was no power to the power board. LOL... thanks for the video, I learn something today.

  • @woodchuck4562

    informative video. I tore one apart and wasn't as lucky as you were. The problem on mine was a blown thermal fuse also, and since I didn't want to wait forever for parts I just jumpered the fuse. For those who think that is sacrosanct the machine will still shut down before it is too hot because it has the thermistor in it for temperature control. You will get a blinking E on the board. I know this because when I put the machine back together I found out that the thermal fuse had blown because the coil on the fan went bad, and when the fan don't work they overheat pretty quickly! :( So I ended up with parts in a box instead of a hot air fryer.

  • @quantumperplexity

    Maybe the Thermal Fuse wasn't bad... Maybe it did its job by fusing in the face of excessive temperature. To be on the safe side, you should follow through with the insertion of a calibrated temperature probe and capture data for an hour or so in both the empty of food-full modes at the highest heat fryer setting. If the fan motor is under-powered, it could be running hot, just a few degrees below the temperature point of the thermal fuse. On a warmer day or longer runtime, the fuse would pop, saving the rest of the air fryer from a melt-down situation. At that point, you may consider upgrading the fan motor, one that embraces at least a couple standard deviations of manufacturing process variation. (Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it.)

    Thanks for the video. I followed it to fix my Gourmia 5qt (Model GAF575) air fryer. After 3-4 months my air fryer just died. I opened up my air fryer - it's easier to work on than the Zeny - just pop off the top plastic cover and then 4 screws and the entire top comes right off. I found the same exact 172C thermal fuse. I checked for continuity - none. I ordered a 5 pack of fuses from Amazon for $6.59. It took me about 2 minutes to replace the fuse. Thanks again!

    Nice video Dude! I actually had this issue with a new air fryer my sister-in-law got us last Christmas. Mockins brand. I didn't actually use it much right away because I'd never heard of an air fryer before and didn't have a good idea of what to even use it for at first. Then one day I took a dozen frozen wings out of the freezer, which I usually grill, and the light bulb came on in my head. To steal a phrase from my teenage daughter...OMG. Wings turned out just as good, if not better than we get at our local pub. For that last few months we've been making home made fries, wings, and just about anything we can think of that works with an air fryer. Then just the other day in the middle of making fries my wife noticed they weren't getting cook half way through the process. No heat all the sudden. I've left the broken thing on the counter for weeks. She's tried to message the company to see what they are willing to do for a replacement. Not surprisingly they are non responsive. I thought I take a look at how the thing operates and came across your video. I knew the issue I had was something to do with the heating element, so after a few minutes into your video I knew I was on the right track. Good job on the breakdown, and diagnosing the bad component with your trusty ol' Fluke. With a little electronics knowledge and the willingness to try you certainly prove the point that not every kitchen appliance that breaks necessarily goes into the garbage can.

      The trick with these seems to me measuring voltages. All friers seem to be similar. If the board acts dead then I would check for fuses and that sort of thing. I suspect the thermal fuse is bad. That seems to be common.

    Amazing video! I just ordered some thermal fuses, as well as a multimeter - I have been putting it off for years and just guessing at which part I needed to resolder etc. haha - anyway, my air fryer runs (turns on, heats, the front controller works fine), it's just that when it runs, the fan does not turn on, ever. The fan spinning icon shows up when it is heating, and when the heat is turned off it stays on for its 'cooling' stage as well, but the fan is never actually spinning. I tore it down just today to see if there was something obvious (a loose wire running to the fan motor keeping it from getting power, for instance), and after doing that the only thing I found was one wire that was loose in a crimp nut, but after taking those out and redoing the wire nut making sure it was a secure connection, I put it back together and it's exhibiting the exact same symptoms. I am concluding now that it isn't actually a thermal fuse since the system still boots up and the element is still heating. Is there anything on the controller that I should check, or should I assume the motor was bad and burnt out? I should note I received it as a gift and only used it for ~5 weeks before it died. I bought a new one and we've used it for 6+ months now with no issue, so I don't really know what went wrong unless it was just a faulty part.

    Thanks for this video. I have a DeLonghi Multifry which stopped working a few days ago after what seemed to be a surge in power during a thunderstorm. I have partially disassembled the unit and have been testing continuity on the main visible elements (everything seems OK), I then stumbled on a pair of round-shaped ceramic terminals which I can only think are Thermal Fuses, I tested continuity on both of them (I think they have somewhat different specs although look exactly the same) one worked but the other did not report continuity. I wonder if there is a way I can verify whether this is the actual culprit as I cannot easily get a hold of a replacement part in the near future. Thanks in advance for any insights you may share...

I happen to have a fryer like that (a little bit different on the outside but technically it is the same, it is a MVPower) with a problem, the screen says "E2", the heater and fan work but not the on-screen controls. Only the "E2" is left blinking, therefore I cannot use it. I have checked the device that you say could be a thermistor and that you touch with your hand at exactly 9:53 of your video. Your thermistor marks 97.3 koh, however mine marks as a short circuit: 0 oh. This makes me think that maybe here is the problem. I am trying to find this thermistor on Aliexpress, Amazon, etc but to no avail. Would you be so kind to help me? Thanks for the video Frank! This was very helpful. Quick question, mine just randomly stopped working one day and knocked out the breakers in the kitchen. I found the micro-switch inside didn't have continuity. My fryer doesn't have an on / off button, so is that just a safety switch so the fryer doesn't turn on without the basket? Can I operate safely without it or should I try to find a replacement?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  5 років тому

      Hello Han, I am a big fan of safety interlocks with this sort of device. I would see about replacing it. I suspect it's a pretty standard microswitch. Knocking out the breakers is curious though. I guess a momentarily bouncing switch might cause it, but I would give the heating elements a check to ground to rule out any failing in the heating element insulation. I would be fine with testing it by jumping out the micro-switch but I would not leave it bypassed when you put it back into use.

      Id guess either the element itself or the thermal fuse. Some have a thermal fuse protecting the element itself. If you measure the resistance of the element it should be pretty low. If its thousands of ohms or more(or open), then its bad.

    Princess 182020 Digital Aerofryer XL
    Hello! Really nice video and to see how to check how parts work or not in an AirFyer. Yes, I have a question. I have an older model of airfyer but it's not especially used and I suspect it's just a minor problems today. What happens regarding the error is that the display flashes and sounds and honks on and off when you put the basket in and you can therefore not use the AirFyer. But it is a glitch or malfunction that can be related to the deposit of the basket . It is a form of spring-back switch in the upper rim of the on the Airfryer and if you press the basket firmly the display is constantly lit and you can use the programs My question is what the components are called that are wrong with and how to order them and where?

They tend to be very easy to fix as long as the coil is OK. If the coil is bad, then you need a new $20 motor.

    Thanks for filming this, my air fryer is completely dead although the plug fuse is fine. I saw there was no path between the pins and PSU board. Really I was about to stop there. Dug deeper and found two ol 192c thermal fuses.
    Stupid question any difference between fast blow & axial?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому

      Axial is the physical shape. There are fuses where both pins come out the same side(radial) or one pin on each side(axial). The fast blow means it will open the fuse quickly. I'd suggest looking for a standard blow 192c. www.amazon.com/SF188E-SEFUSE-Microtemp-Thermal-Cutoff/dp/B01N1Y1L46/ref=sr_1_3 these should work fine.

    Hi there
    I was just wondering if you have ever taken the cover off a on a Tefal actifry serie - O01-1 for any repairs ! ! !
    I have two Tefal actifry serie - o01-1 one no heat and it turns and the other heat but not turning.
    So what I have done is combined the two to make a good one i.e. heat and turning.
    The question is "does it matter if the heater element wire are crossed over ?
    If i can get hold of aschematic I can sort it out immediately.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 роки тому

      I have not personally but I can definitely tell you the heater wires being crossed it totally fine. The heater is just a coil of wire that gets hot. There is no polarity. My guess is the one without heat has a bad thermal fuse or bad heating element. The fryer with no fan probably needs a new fan motor. Making one from the 2 is a great idea!

    My Philips air fryer that I bought from Walmart is plagued with an intermittent motor. Sometimes it starts slow and comes up to speed and runs fine. Sometimes, the fan won't start at all. • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  4 роки тому +1

      Those shaded pole motors can be finicky. Even if spins, you may want to remove the fan blade and clean up the motor bearings. They are usually bronze and can get sticky. They are very low torque so it's easy to make it drag. If you clean it good, I bet it will be more reliable and more consistent speed. Aside from the motor needing cleaning, there isn't anything else that would really affect it, since it's driven off the mains power

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 роки тому

      It did not unfortunately. However, I would suspect that magnet has something to do with making the basket act like its locked into place. Or, there is a reed switch that the magnet helps activate. I'd look around for another magnet that lines up with it, or metal plate maybe? I'm speculating on all of this but I figure, its just another air fryer so it cant be too unusual. There must be a pocket or spot for it to sit in. I think if you find what the magnet was affecting, you will find where it went. Good luck and if you figure it out, please let me know! Thanks

      I'd start by making sure the fan motor isn't stuck. If it's free, then voltages to the fan motor should be verified. • @FixitFrank

      I am not personally familiar with that model, however from what I read, the knob is pretty important for controlling the lid. It sounds like the pin might be out of place or maybe even bent a little. The lid looks to be pretty heavy. First, I would see if you can feel any movement through the pin while you open/close the lid. You might feel a spot where the pin moves. Then you can try pushing/pulling on the pin at the spot to see if its just out of place. Otherwise, it is time to open the fryer up, or at least getting to the hing assembly and determining if its something serious or just a bent pin that you can hammer out flat enough.

      The thermistor should be around 10K or 100K depending on the model. You should read around that when you measure resistance. Maybe 6-8K on a 10K thermistor and 80K~ on the 100K thermistor. You can find them inside smaller fans, old microwave ovens, etc. There are some variations but these motors are all over the place so finding the same one should not be too hard. As long as the shaft length and mounting holes are the same(or you adapt them), you are good. I would check popcorn poppers, induction ovens/toasteroven with convection, as well as smaller fans first. Microwave ovens might be single mounting hole instead of dual, but of course I am looking at this fan motor. Yous may have one pair of mounting holes. I realize not everyone has access to the proper parts. Keep in mind paper burns around 230c so you are getting pretty close, also ABS plastic gets soft around 210C, so your plastic housing might melt. I'd seriously recommend using the 172c @ 10amps. These are so cheap. www.amazon.com/SF169E-SEFUSE-Cutoffs-Thermal-Degree/dp/B071F9PGW4/ref=sr_1_1 $6.25

    hi there i have the same problem ive worked out the fuse has blown just out of curiosity are you meant to get continuity on the copper coil? because i dont seem to have any?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 роки тому

      If you mean the large coil/heater coil, then yes. You should get pretty low resistance. I'd expect 10-20ohms.

      @@FixitFrank no i mean on the fan the fine copper wrapped around which the pos and negative terminals go to

      @@TheDazzmo oh ok. yeah that should also show resistance. I bet your fan motor has an open coil. I think they should read around 1000 ohms(might be less, I can't quite recall).

    I have checked the thermistor, heating element, and thermal fuse and found no problems. i have found that there is no power going to the heating element. Thoughts?

      I'd check the triac driving the coil.

    Hi I can not manage to open the upper part (as it is not shown in the video). could you explain me how to remove the gray upper part?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  5 років тому +1

      Sure. All I did was pull a little on the sides. There are 2 clips per side that latch inward. If you pull on the outside (left / right) edges of the grey part, it should pop loose. Be careful that you don't pull too hard and tear the wires off the display/button panel. You may even want to try pulling up on one side at a time.

    I'm really lost with my problem... first the little red LED doesn't come on anymore on the fan display, but I still get some heat out the exhaust... but it's not getting hot enough... it takes a super long time to cook something at the highest setting... Do you have any thoughts what to look for??? Can really use your help....

      Hello! If I had to guess, I would say your heating element isn't getting enough power or the element itself is going bad and only partially heating. Another possibility(what I would check first) is to make sure the fan is turning by itself. If the fan is jammed(this is kind of common I heard) it can be from the motor getting gunked up with grease from the food. With the unit unplugged and cool, I would push the fan with your hand and see how easy it turns. It should turn very easily. the fact that you don't have the Fan indicator makes me think its the fan motor itself or the control circuit for your fan.

      FixitFrank .... well the fan indicator is working, it’s the little red light in the middle of the fan indicator that is not on anymore....

      FixitFrank ... I’m getting low amount of heat out the exhaust, you referenced maybe the heating element might not be getting enough power...?? How do I pursue that???

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  4 роки тому

      @@jacksonjohn1000 Same thing still applies. There are only a few things it could be. The heating element is the more likely cause. Some heat may mean the element is failing.
