- Living With A Jaguar F Type
What has been my experience with the ownership of a Jaguar F Type R so far? Quality issues, reliability, fit and finish, noise, cost of ownership, and much more.
Please join in the vid and I would love to hear your thoughts of whether it sounds unreasonable or sounds off to you. I would love to hear your comments. Please have a great day and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE if you like the car life. The back stops here. Cheers.
I got rid of my 2017 F-Type R back in January after owning it for close to two years and it definitely had it's quirks, one of the most obvious being the lackluster infotainment system. I used it as my daily driving car and the amount of people that would get as close as possible to my rear bumper was almost comical. Didn't matter if I was doing 100 mph they would somehow be right there with me no matter what. That being said, I absolutely loved that car and had zero issues with it.
Exactly, it was always a little nerve wracking when these people get too close. I can drive the old crusty dodge truck and people stay away. SMH.
Tailgating is insane. I get the same crap with my bloody Corella ella ella ella eh eh eh talking about my corellla....
Aftermarket carplay unit...fixed...300 dollars. FYI to anyone reading this that there is a fix....and 80 for a pro installer ....it works with the "nav" button....done.
Hey, im thinking about getting a 2015 model, this tailgating thing is interesting, why do you think people go right up to the bumper? are they haters?
@@user-xi2gb1fb6i I honestly don't know, but my dad had a 2018 Corvette z06 and it was the same issue. I don't think it is just the F-Type that has this problem. Any high-end flashy sports car like a Ferrari or Lamborghini seems to attract tailgaters. I see it all the time. A lot of times I think they are filming/taking pictures and get close so they can get a better look.🤷♂️
Dude your point about the a-holes you ride up on your bumper is spot on. I just bought a '21 a week ago and it was the first thing I noticed. Glad I wasn't going crazy
Nice video. I've had my f-type for about 2 weeks now. LOVE IT! just wish I had more chances to drive it during the week. First thing I noticed is the perceived tailgating. I've driven trucks my entire life and having a truck bed puts drivers further behind you. I think in the f-type it just appears they are closer. But I agree....it feels like most cars are right on your butt. People drive like idiots everywhere these days. I'm in southern CA.
Thanks for sharing yes up here in hillbilly county, people ride us like a circus pony so I like to leave them in the dust when I can.
Thanks for sharing your experience Mark. Any special car will be require special care. If it's too much trouble for one, they should just buy a corolla, and call it a day.
Thanks. I totally agree. Some people just could not be bothered and there are cheaper, simpler cars to get to Walmart or the Dollar Store in. Enthusiasts will certainly get it. Hope you are having a great weekend.
I agree with you, Mark! Personally, I'd prefer to have an F-Type in my garage over a Tesla any day of the week. By the way, I'm currently making significant progress towards purchasing a 2024 F-Type R75 with a black interior and matte black paint (the new one). The car looks very much like a batmobile or hellhound, which is exactly what I was looking for. After considering various color and style options, I finally settled on this one. I remember we had some back-and-forth discussions on this topic, but I'll definitely keep you informed once I've placed the order. I can't wait for the day when I go to pick it up! I know that the matt paint is going to be a challenge to maintain, but I plan on covering the entire car with ppf film so it should be easier to maintain. By the way, I think you're doing an excellent job on your videos, and it seems like we have a lot in common! 😊
Hi, wow, sounds like an amazing spec and I would really love to hear more about it and that is very exciting. Thats literally the latest and greatest. As far as the Matt finish yes its a beast but stunning no less. I know a guy who bought a factory Aventador with matt white but then PPFd the stealth film on the whole body and maintained the matt look and protected it completely.
Also my new car that I order, I went with gloss, but am factory ordering PPF on entire car with stealth so it looks Matte
Spit my morning coffee out Mark when you talked about “tailgaiters”. Omg, truer words were never spoken. I don’t know what it is, whether they want to rub shoulders with royalty lol. I actually think they are trying to read the emblems to see what the hell kind of car it is. Most have never seen one.
PS. It is 3 times worse when I take the old E type out for a cruise. And that car has no third brake light. So I get very nervous in it.
Cheers Mark.
Awesome thanks Randal, for sharing. It’s real and as you know Edmonton drivers are nothing short of brutal. I would be ultra nervous in your E type and I know o have a couple friends in brand new Ferrari SF90s and can’t even imagine somebody bumping that car. Have a great weekend.
Wow, glad is not my imagination people tailgating me. I like to do 1st dynamic, 2nd manual, 3rd downshift, 4th all I can see is them disappearing in my rear window.
Or I will let them tailgate and they can't keep up on an exit without braking or a 90 degree street turn. I just got dedicated sottozero for this winter, so far no snow,.will see how they perform. Love your channel!!!!
AwesoMe Micky, that’s also how I like to roll. Sometimes I get jammed i in traffic and there is no way to shake such jerks. Either way, I have heard good things about those winters. I would like to hear how they work once you see snow. Have a great weekend.
You can definitely fix the passenger side front hood gap by opening the hood, then loosen the bumper attachment bolts under the leading edge of the hood. Close the hood. Set the gap, raise the hood and tighten.
Thanks a lot for the tip. I may give it a try.
@@markholubetz
If you are like me, put a thin micro fiber between the socket and the bolt head so you don’t scratch the bolt heads. To a sharp eye, scratched bolt heads could look like the bumper might have been worked-on. But a REALLY sharp eye will see that there are two slightly different washer indents in the bumper plastic, indicating it was just a panel alignment.
The full lock wheel hop is normal. My a4 does that too sometimes more in the cold. The front tires dont have the same angle when full lock so that its better for handling at higher speeds.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks again. Every time I see your car. I love the colors. And just that touch of red. Every time I see it I want a cigs. Lol. Mine is a gorgeous black. Looks great. But no cigarettes. My wife would kill me if I said I want to go looking for yours. So I keep thinking of having it repainted. But it hard to mess up with it being untouched. But at lest you share your. Thanks .
Awesome thanks. I do love the look of the car too, but there are some really nice colour combos out there and I am also a fan of the brighter red on light interior or black on black and white on red
I change my oil with bulk Royal Purple 5W-30 HPS at $200/5 gallon pail off Amazon. That’ll do 2.5 oil changes at $80/each. I change my oil every 1500 miles due to GDI soot and timing guides. I change the filter every 10K mikes as it always seems to look new. The thing about dealer oil changes is that it forces a long interval just from the $.
I do agree, the services are far too long in my opinion. The more the better. Oil is relatively cheap.
Hi Mark, always enjoy your videos but especially when it pertains to the F Type R. You briefly spoke about a clunk in your front tire region when backing out the driveway. Now having a 2015 F Type R RWD, I can't speak about a front differential situation but I had a clunk in the back passenger side tire area that would haopen at low speed specifically when backing out of my garage and slowly going forward out of the backing turn. I took it to 3 dealerships, two claimed they couldn't hear a clunk, and the third, after I insisted a technician drive with me, attributed it to the ABS system. So, like the other two dealerships no solution to the oroblem. At any I told them to do a change of the differential fluid, which is actually a job that requires finesse in being certain to not overfill or under fill the differential as both situations will lead to a problem. So, they reluctantly did the fluid change, although they claim it's not actually a point of maintenance that is required until of 100K miles, if I'm not mistaken. Fast forward a few months and I nothice a blackish oil on my garage floor. My neighbor brought over his lift and there was fluid all over the differential. Took it to the dealership and luckily my extended warranty covered the repair/replacement of the rear differential at 55,000 miles. It was 7k to replace it and thankfully all I owed was a $100 deductible. My point is, yes, you are correct in telling viewer, be on top of maintenance on the differentials. If you look at the Jaguar forums, these F Types are somewhat known for differential problems. Great video, keep warm this winter, best to you and your family.
Wow thanks for sharing Kevin. I agree, it’s important to take care of things. Many people assume that the manufacturer has your best interests in mind and those recommendations are spot on. NOT. Sometimes their SCM vendors don’t deliver the goods, sometimes it’s marketing like BMW on the extended oil services , or just not knowing. Bottom line, the industry as a whole has learned a lot and the best practice is usually the best approach and oil is relatively cheap. Cheaper than a new engine, gearbox or even diff. Hope you are having a great weekend Kevin. Cheers
I have have the same deal with pick-ups tailgating. I try to be understanding, I’d be jealous AF too if these cars were out of my reach.
That’s fair and normally it would not be an issue other than do t need another car written off by these drivers
@@markholubetz
Other people are why we can’t have nice things
I bark laughed about the pickup. SAME. Even in the Midwest with my V6s AWD I get the EXACT same thing!😂
Haha, it’s a real plug move.
Thanks Mark, everything I would like to say also but not put as succinctly as you have here. My R is approaching 38K (2015) and I agree with all you have said, I even get in/out similar to you being mindful of scuffing the bolsters. I have the added pneumatic bolsters in mine so if they are tightened the 'bucket' effect of the seats makes the leading edge of the seat higher, so more prone to scuffing. As for fuel economy, if you are gentle with it, it's gentle on your wallet, same as many cars I imagine, but recently on a trip to London and back I got 400 miles out of one tank. On the flip side, when I feel like pushing it (when I don't care) boy does it consume. But, these cars need exercising now & then and show 'em who's boss, just like a well trained thorough bred. Keep 'em caming Mark. Btw 'Tesla' is a swear word to me plus it's an anagram of 'Steal' ;)
Haha, nice, thanks some great points. Yes indeed, they can do OK on mileage, but I will be the first to admit, I look forward to every freeway on-ramp, lol. Leather is also certainly the nicest product in premium cars but also the thing that quickly dates them if it’s neglected. I know my Lambo only had 40000 kms but honestly looked like 80 in a typical German car. I treated it with leather conditioner, I entered gently but some bolsters just seem to crease, possibly from the weight of the body.
I mean...obviously it is imprtant for maintenance and keeping costs low to keep an eye on the parts. But maybe being too critical takes away from the enjoyment of the driving enxperience if you are always thinking of something about it that annoys you or isnt perfect. Saying that aguar did save money on maybe the cheaper materials etc so in that sense you are right as we pay a lot for such a beast! :)
You bet. These are little observations but nothing that is that much of an issue. I found issues in my Lambo, Porsches, Bimmers, etc and nothing is perfect but these F Types are as good as it gets in this price range.
hi Mark, that rear cargo cover coming off those rods. Could it be the part that is on the actual cover is movable, take a look and see if it can be adjusted left or right to narrow the opening? LMK, good luck, and always enjoy your F-type stuff since the beginning.
I bought a used 2014 Ftype V6S in red with red interior. I bought it 2 and half years ago. It had 30000 miles, Bought it for $30K and got a 4 year extended warranty. Everything is wonderful. Im 70 years old and the V8 for wife was a bit much. so I 'settled' for the V6S lol. now has 53000 miles. we daily drive it.
Thanks a lot Neil for sharing. I will indeed have a closer look at the rear shelf and maybe it’s an easy fix. The daily drive is wonderful, because as much as we don’t want to mile out our cars, they are just so lively to leave under wraps in a garage.

Mark, at the end of this video you mentioned the end of the F-Type production with the 2024 model year which includes a special edition. Would love to know more about it so please pass on any information you may have!
Who knows I may try to acquire one as that would be a model that would have value down the road. Stay safe and well…
Hi John I will certainly expand on the special edition in days/weeks but they are essentially celebrating the years of Jaguar and sort of the end of an era. Looks like more or less the same cars and engines, at this point, with a few interesting options. Stay tuned.
The thing about a V8 F-Type compared to a Toyota is the cruise RPM of a massively overpowered car will be idle vs 3500, or about 1/3. So the Camry accrues 300,000 miles of spins to equal 100,000 miles in an F-Type. So there is no hope of any economy engine lasting as long, from any brand.
Haha, yes in theory, but the way i drive my F Type, that 3500 RPM thing quickly goes out the window. lol. JK. I agree though overall.
big hip don't lie and beautiful.
Yes yes
Maybe you should upgrage to the2023 version and get it customized if yu are finding a lot to fault with it? Not that its a bad thing your indepth reviews are perfect and very useful. It seems you might be done with this one?
Also how do you deal with negativity or any aggression? Someone threatened to smash my windows 'as it would cost you a lot!!' when I as stopped at lights. Nice. I just said sorry. I can be a bit scary so I just drive on quieter roads and enjoy it by myself away from the madding crowds
Wow that is scary. We see lowest common denominator of the human species in traffic every day and it sucks you had to change your habits because of it. Even for me the daily grind brings out anxiety for those rushing home or whatever. I like the backroads drives better too because of this. I have received more negative response in my Lambo but nice cars in general are always magnets. As far as selling? No not at all, I love my car, the older style lights are my preference, although they are all beautiful, and even with a few problems, it’s still amazing so don’t think I will part with it anytime soon.
8:30 Since magnets and hooks aren't practical, I have some other ideas on securing a cover to prevent frozen door handles. What's the best way to drop you a line 1:1?
Hi, sure can you send me an email to exoticcarplayplace@gmail.com and we can connect indeed.
The V8 gets amazing mileage, you can eek out 32-34 mpg in 8th. Problem is, 8th?
Haha, nice. Every time i drive, I usually give it the gusto a couple of times and as a result, that hurts mileage.
Do you think starting a 2017 f type r with the garage closed will eliminate any neighbour disturbance? I really want to get one, test drove one the other day and they loud, but i wouldnt want to reduce that start up at the same time but also dont want to start getting complaints
They are pretty loud but really its only the initial bark and then a minute of high idle
I’m curious anyone knows about the potential rust issue with this car? I’ve heard Jaguar would address this if it affected the car. But I’m guessing if it’s out of warranty, a buyer/owner would be SOL. Is there any way to address this issue if it’s out of the warranty period? I was looking strongly at one of these until I heard that.
Thats fair and while that issues is a hard disappointing, thats 1 piece and the rest of the car is pretty much aluminum so the remainder will last a long time. Zero corrosion otherwise.
Looking at your floor’s carpet I shuld suggest you , kind of lather look materiel that you might appreciate . If you want to I can send you a photo of my F type’s floor.
MiKel from France
Sure I’d like to see what yours looks like. Mine is a floor mat that is totally molded. If you can, fire a note to exoticcarplayplace@gmail.com
Great video! are you experiencing white smoke/condensation from exhaust in winter. It continous even after engine is warmed up to the proper level? is it normal? Just got mine F Type 3.0 V6 and I am panicking so would love to hear your experience.
Hi, mine puts out some decent exhaust maybe a little whitish but really just exhaust and I actually do have condensation and have water at the tops and that black carbon under the car near the diff but it’s quite typical. From my experience real white smoke as when it’s related to coolant burning, that usually implies mixing or a blown head gasket and you cane sometimes see a side. Rise or drop in coolant levels, oil level may rise drastically or codes and sometimes misfires. If your fluid levels are stable and car runs smooth, it does not sound like an issue to me.
Mark,
I really appreciate taking time to respond:) I love my F type. Such a great car. I bought mine 6 months ago and it is from 2016 with only 10k km. it’s like new:)
About coolant I see drop of coolant but very slow. Although I see it is going a bit down.
I said white smoke but it could be just water vapour. It is so annoying when I’m in traffic seeing that smoke at the back of my car.
I love the car but I’m just afraid that seller sold it as he knew it was head gasket blown or worse like engine block cracked! This will be very expensive to repair I believe.
I went though to local Jaguar/Land Rover garage and the guy checked the pressure of the coolant system (he did not checked for gas fumes in coolant though) and said pressure was great and that these big engine f type cars just produce lots of vapour from exhaust when cold and nothing to worry about.
Maybe it is me but I think (and again maybe me panicking) also car is not as powerful as it was and when in traffic stationary I think engine vibrates more like choking but not really as it is still smooth.
Other than that everything works perfectly so I’m not sure if it is just me going crazy. Can’t fully enjoy owning this car and now just avoiding driving it:(
Thank you so much for your comments again and for your channel about f type. I saw all your videos and helped me a lot!
During your ownership of the F-Type, have you had the battery drain issue resulting from emissions testing? Apparently some F-Types have had their batteries drained as a result of plugging in a device into the OBDII port during emissions testing resulting in a flat battery. Mine included. Apparently, the car's electric modules stay live and continue to draw amps in such circumstances. Wondering if you have had this problem during your ownership and how you resolved it. Thanks.
Hi Terence, I have indeed heard of this issue especially when someone is trying to pull OBD codes and not actually electronically disconnecting it. I have heard that just yanking the cable out will potentially cause this issue. Need to log off. Hard to know if others are following the same regime and it’s hard to get that across if the car is out of your hands.
Hey Mark and all, just got a 16 with silver diamond wheels, hijacking here but since u did spacers, if I toss on 18mm on all 4 will the handling be ok and all else or should I skip it . Thanks
Hi Mark, i know some people say go with a different wheel with a better offset and while I can’t disagree with that, I love my wheels. Yours are also great so I understand keeping them on. Maybe others can chime In but someone said that this can take a toll on wheel bearings. I am not so sure but I think the improved look is well worth it. I see no I’ll handling effects from this but I also did not put the wider spacers on the front.
Awesome, thanks, probably a move I try and go from there, definitely the look is the key without breaking bank for new wheels or tires. Having just bought mine I love your vids for this car, helped me out a ton as I looked for mine.
Just let the neighbor drive the car around the block once in while. Tailgating is because they think you should be driving faster??? People think you should never do the speed limit. The morons do the same thing to M Types - to them it is how dare you drive the speed limit in such a car.
That’s true, it’s frustrating because it’s usually those angry Karen’s, or Chads in their pickup trucks who just want to create unnecessary stress and anxiety and put people at risk.
your complaining for nothing bro I have one f type and its been 3 years I'm driving it and I got 0 problems with it everything is perfect it in
I still love my car, flaws and all. Great machines. What else is there? Cheers
F-Type ia Boring.
... so why are you watching this video ???

Hi Ernie
Good for you, I've one too and I love "her"!!!
I was writing to Kirk...
I don't think that our car is boring!
What do you think about?

As far as I know, its only the carbon steel cross brace under the car which is easy to remove and refinish and changeout.
