  • Colin Gray, the father of the 14-year-old student accused of opening fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia and killing four people told law enforcement in 2023 that his son was bullied, tormented and called "gay" by his classmates, Fox News reports.
The comments were made during a police interrogation of Colin Gray after the FBI alleged his then 13-year-old son Colt Gray was behind online school shooting threats.
In the transcripts obtained by Fox News, Colin Gray told law enforcement, “Colt’s gone through a lot… it just was very difficult for him to go to school and not get picked on by, you know, it went from one thing to another to, you know, he was talking to the couple friends he has.”
Colin Gray discussed the bullying further and said he was “ridiculed,” adding “I was trying to get him on the golf team… like ‘Oh look, Colt’s gay. He’s dating that guy.’ Just ridiculed him day after day after day.”
Colt and Colin Gray both face charges in connection with Wednesday’s shooting that killed two students and two teachers. Nine other people were also wounded in the attack.
The teen is charged with murder, while his father is accused of second-degree murder for providing his son with a semi-automatic AR 15-style rifle despite knowing his son “was a threat to himself and others.”
Hearings on Friday determined both father and son would remain jailed with no bond requested by their attorneys.
The next court date for the two is set for December.

I was also bullied because I was so poor and went to school smelling like a carton of cigarettes…I couldn’t go to my mom and tell her, because she was always absent.. my father had died from cancer …. I quit school as a freshman, got a job, moved in with friends and eventually got my own place while going to night school … what worse here is the DAD KNEW and he could have wrapped his arms around his son instead of handing him a rifle… I’m pro-gun, but this kid was failed-NO EXCUSE, I put this on the dad, the mom AND the kid.. we need to raise our kids that we shouldn’t give a damn who calls us names, we need to have parents who are present, like those that will never have their children again…it’s all tragic, but I think we were all bullied in some fashion, his anger was put to the wrong use and his father didn’t even see it.. My thoughts exactly, he had behavioral problems, he needed to have an assessment, put in an alternate school with limited students and staffed trained to deal with this. All school districts have special education departments that arrange to do so and it is paid for by the state. The parents did not have to do this, the school district should have. I was a Behavior Disorder Teacher and responsible for thirty students who were in the programs with different behavioral disorders. I also was a psychiatric nurse on a behavioral disorder on the psych ward with patients with anything from OCD to schizophrenia. The students I had in the program I managed, I visited parents and asked that their medications to be taken at school from the nurses offices as if the parents worked they would tell their children to take their medication whereas when taken at school, they had documentation. I made copies of my nursing manuals pages with descriptions of the disorders to teachers so they understood the disorder. The main thing is the school staff have the right to refer to the district behavioral specialist. This costs the parents nothing.

She did, and never had a problem again. She didn't start fights, but as she grewup, she didn't take nothing off nobody. I've saw her beat up a girl at school one day. IF she had to fight, she never lost. Since she was to years older then me, if someone messed with me, she'd beat Them up. But thankfully nobody ever bullied or picked on me. Here's the thing, kids are still gonna be bullies. That's a fact of life. But it's no excuse to take lives because your classmates are calling you names. The problem is kids are on their smartphones all day looking at social media instead of learning. Social media contributes to bullying, that is a fact. You cut kids off social media and take their phones when they go to class, you cut the problem at it's core. Instead of bullying they learn in the classroom like they should. Also it should also be up to the parents to monitor social media use at home. Monitor what you kids are seeing online, put parental controls on sites that promote gun violence and incel websites. If parents insist on buying their children guns, pass a law that says providing a minor with a gun under the age 21 should be a felony, and that the parent will face prison time up 25 years.

I hate bullies too and no excuse just an opportunity to show that t parents in general need to do a better job of speaking out against bullying, punishing your child if they are caught bullying and educating that there are people who are not mentally strong and can lead to this.. Again, does not make it okay but there are multiple factors that can be addressed and parents can def be more proactive. That's the father talking to authorities last year to save his ass and his son, and that's coming from him who himself has a history of domestic assault and his mom has also assaulted an elderly woman, committed fraud, drug abuse, and neighbors have noted the family have along history of loud violent behavior.
So nah, the father is lying.
Colt is just evil like his parents. Product of them probably has some form of schizophrenia
      He idolized Adam Lanza
He researched shooting up elementary schools to copycat him.
His username was Lanza in Russian
He researched radical groups like Trantifa.
The father was protecting his son by lying.
Then he buys him a gun for Christmas knowing he has issues.
Then they move to further avoid investigation.
Then classes started August 1st at the new school of which he skipped that entire month and th father did nothing.
Then he attended one day of classes and on his second day, shot up the school, randomly shooting people he didn't know.

I don't understand why people are making this a political issue!!
I am a republican and didn't go around shooting people or shooting up my school!!
This has nothing to do with political association but with mental health and school bullies !!
Parents need to teach their kids to stop bullying other kids !! To be tolerant and acceptance of others

At the new school, where he started a little over a month ago and spoke with no one because this is a new school district, so he literally knew no one from middle school.. my God, the same kid who doesn’t attend school everyday!!!! Has got to be downright comical sir. The questions ought to be, why did your 13yo son needed an A-R style gun? School is in session, why was the gun accessible to him? You were the one who said that although he has access to the weapons of war, they were not loaded… what happened here? No, sir I’m not buying what you’re selling!! Thank you, NEEEXT!

This makes no sense I thought that was only his second day at that school. These news reporters make no sense how could he, be bullied in only 2 days and his first day he spent with counselors. This is another story that doesn't add up

How does anyone, student or teacher, just walk into a school with an AR-15? They are not just little guns that can be hidden. The school bears some responsibility here, if there are no camera's, no security, no one manning the camera's.

A lot of us grew up in broken homes and were bullied at school. That’s no excuse to kill innocent people.
Also that boy was only at the school for 2 days. They need to quit making excuses for him.

Why not go to the school to see what was going on? Reach out to the teacher or principal if he was being bullied! SMH! Then you spend money on a gun instead of therapy! NO EXCUSE!

How do hundreds of people, including teachers, educators and office staff, miss the warning signs and let this young man endure torture that led him to retaliate.... How? And how do the parents not address this intervene instead of buying guns and making them accessible...?? Every body failed this young man and it led to the tragic death of others....... How? Teachers? Hello?

Apparently , the grandmother Colt's mom's mother went to the school the week before Labor Day she told a news outlet to get therapy for him. If this is the case & found to be true , I think the school has a role in this somewhere. Jackson Co. school where he previously attended knew from police about the UNFOUNDED THREAT. His file should have at least been noted & when he transferred to Barrow Co. they would have had a heads up on him. IMO.
