That fly had no chance....I picked this game up to bring on board a beginner hex and counter player and I've pulled back a bit after trying it solo. The management of the activation cards is really important and even though the rules are easy there is a depth that may not work well as an intro game. I really like this game, the cards make it a much better game than a simple counter pusher.
@@grantkleinhenz6789 I think it's a good thing. It makes you and your enemy a better player, you push each other and learn from defeat. I would rather play against an enemy who tries his best and defeats me, than win against somebody who doesn't care. Of course we should all strive to be humble in victory and defeat (although I must admit I have a problem with the latter when my usual opponent rubs his triumph in my face :P ).
Rostov '41 (it's on preorder from MMP). Might also look at 1944 Battle of the Bulge from Worthington. Salerno and Donnerschlag are totally doable, but they'd also make excellent "second" hex and counter games, as they're a step up in either complexity or strategic planning.
Strange that no one mentioned about massive amount of errors in this game.. Starting positions are wrong, table of combat is wrong, even cards. I bought as my first such wargame because it seems not to be over-complicated but taking into account also fighting with errors & errata i would say thanks.. ;/
It is a real pity as there is good low complexity game hiding under the errors with great components. Really needs a new rulebook and fixes for cards and sadly the meaty QRS sheets.
