I fucking love this encounter and it might be my favorite opening encounter of a raid because it feels like bomb squad trying to defuse a bomb in a movie. It never gets old and whenever I take friends through it I usually let the chaos happen just to replicate the feeling of launch weekend again. absolutely fucking peak
Just Realized that all, if not most of the darkness motifs are synthesized, and the light motifs are vocals and actual instruments. In Phase 1 it's mostly silent, in Phase 2 the darkness starts getting serious and trying to suppress us and Phase 3 is our light shining through the odds as vocals layer over top the synth signifying our imminent victory.
Reminds me of the veiled woman. If the woman singing represents the light then why are their statues of woman covered in veils in darkness pyramids? Unless the darkness isn’t the actual woman but instead the veil that covers her. We know that darkness isn’t inherently evil, the witness is the one who wears it and gives it a wicked form. “Wear” being the keyword, who’s to say that statues aren’t doing the same?
@@buckledwheat6299 that's what I said. Before Witch Queen I theorized to my friends that they statue represented the voice behind the darkness and the veil it wore was the darkness itself. Come Witch Queen and Savathun name drops the Witness and says "it wears the darkness like a cloak" and I went "BOOM CALLED IT"
Interestingly enough concept art from back in D1 had it’s own veiled woman though she had a white/red veil. D2 had concept art of the veiled woman shown in her normal darkness statue look, except there was a bust of someone featuring some big circle above her.
What’s interesting is there’s the Pyramid ship motif (that ‘warped’ synth) and then the Shadowkeep sound, that really wavy higher pitched noise. In TWQ you can hear both used together a lot.
I like the idea that phase 1 starts low, because you have no idea what your doing and your still cautious. Phase 2 ramps up, since you've "gained knowledge" and you're fireteam is a bit more confident and so is the music, and by phase 3 your teams got this, so the music gets as loud as it can. Edit: now that I think about it, even the transitions between each phase are like a deep breath, like the whole team is catching its breath and refocusing
A true way of how this raid felt day one. When we first got the “break” we felt much more confident now going into phase 2 where it’s amped up. The. Phase 3 is so much more stressful with the phase 3 music blaring at you as you try figure out the final 3 symbols. Vow was ron but better. Vow is perhaps one of bungies best raids to date
8:35 as the music kicks up triumphantly after the harsh drums and darkness motif is honestly amazing, the music is literally conveying the light/fireteam are on the last stretch towards victory against the darkness/phase, always gets me hyped up!
That’s the whole point of the encounter to obelisks “drown you” and we need to de activate them to pursue Rhulk. Vow is by far one of the best raids we’ve had If anyone says otherwise there wronf
I’ll never forget the experience on day one of finally figuring out the mechanics and completing it as the music fades out… …only for it to come crashing back in more intensely for a second phase
Yeah we were like what now when it just stops then it kicks back in more Intense than the last and we figured there would be a phase 3 since there were 3 obelisks
Coming back after completing day 1 Ron and il say I’m disappointed with how it turned out compared to votd. Vow was just so much better more chaotic more interesting. And the boss we had heard absolutely nothing about what or who this Rhulk was and he turned out to be one of the if not the strongest disciple of the witness. Nezarec was nice to finally see him in game after so long but we knew he was going to be the raid boss so it wasn’t as unknown feeling as Rhulks reveal
Man day 1 on this being here for 4 hours straight cuz of dumb mistakes and hearing the call outs for the last obelisk at 7:30 just made the finish line so bad ass
This is by far my favourite raid encounter right next to vault. And the music is just the chefs kiss that brings it all together. just like vault I love how it builds throughout all 3 phases. Phase 2 for this is my personal favourite and I always come back for it.
Oh my god! I have been looking desperately for a version of this track as it is in-game and none have succeeded until now! Thank you SO much for this! I just pray it stays! So many tracks and the hard work put into them erased by this strike nonsense! Lost a video of the vault theme from last wish that was the only one of its kind. It had all three phases and a last part that i had never heard before that was so intense. Thanks a bunch!
yess i was waiting for someone to upload this - among the copyright issues i knew the usual people (breshi and promethean) arent going to be uploading osts any time soon. love the percussion and drums and oscillating synths in this one (and the darkness riffs..) Any chance you could upload the "pervading darkness" sound effect? Or even better, the alarm from the security encounter in DSC, when the doors open for dps.
I just soloed this encounter and watching the video back, this music definitely added to the urgency and you could feel my stress through the screen I loved it.
@unbeatablegamer1403 www.twitch.tv/videos/2104934789 I am one of a great many people to do it. But in short. Going super fast, while abusing raid mods like into the light and ashen wake. You can do this on any guardian and you have to be a tiny bit lucky. Like i haven't seen any successful runs where you had to go into grief and kill the ttavaler knight by enter in the same rotation
@@unbeatablegamer1403 www.twitch.tv/videos/2104934789 there ya go. Bungies always been good with there raid osts especially showing the change in the encounter to match the current part of the ost
Phase 2 is by far my favorite version of this theme. This raid is phenomenal
phase 2 hits different
I was obsessed with Phase 2 for a while, but the focus on those drums in Phase 1 game version…
Agreed phase 2 is just better
Phase 3 for me, when it ramps up. Just takes me back to that moment we finally beat the encounter with a few guardians down and time running out
