Smiling! Been watching your videos while working on my 79 to get ready for my grandson. Took it out for a ride yesterday and runs good up to about 5000 rpm then bogs down. Think it needs larger main jets. Good trip and them legs still white.
When i was a lad , i fixed a vw van clutch cable with vise grips and had forgot about the fix till some shop mechanic found my vise grips . vise grips can save your trip . Good luck on the road ps. I just got a 650 again ....a very fine machine that will bring you back home
Hi I seen this woman riding the her bike a round the world she had her spare clutch cable ,cable tide to the working clutch cable so all you had to was connect both ends if the working one broke ,with a little bag of the ends of the new ones to keep stuff out, great place to carry your spare hey well done cheers 🇦🇺🇺🇸☮️👍
Came here looking for info on building a XS650, I got a wild hair to throw together. Found your video and smiled through the whole thing. You’re living the dream brother! Hope to see ya on the road one day.
Used the same vice grip fix on my xs. Hope to get out and try out the pine cone scruber soon. Love the smell of pines, bacon and xs exaust in the morning. Great ride, great video. Thanks.

I have a 1980 XS650 that I've done a lot of motorcycle camping on. I used the Nelson rigg saddle bags, but Your's with the panniers has a really nice set up.
You need a "Slinky Glide Emergency Cable Repair Kit" They come with an assortment of cable ends including ones that screw on, the kit also has a throttle inner cable and a clutch/brake inner cable and it all fits into a nifty little round plastic container and costs next to nothing With this kit you'll have everything you need to repair your cables at any place that has a soldering iron and a grinder
That looked like the Palouse! My stomping grounds! I would leave out the back way from the south hill in Spokane and ride to cda! Used to have so much fun on those twisted growing up.then in 2013 rode my xs650 to kalispell MT still daily it in the summer.?sure wish I had your knowhow! Much respect
You are somewhere near my age and I would love to take a road trip like that. I’m working on a xs650 but I don’t have your talent. It will be a while .. maybe I’ll get to do a trip soon. Nice video.
I hope to do something like this with my 650 xs someday. Just started working on it, its an 81, looks like previous owner ran into some issues, the TCI box was unbolted and disconnected, reconnected tci and checked for spark, nothing. Got some diag to do but also have a 76 650 chopper to work on as well so I hope to have at least one of them running for summer. Cheers from Canada.
Smiling!

Pine needles work very well too and get most of the grease out. Then into the fire
Those xs 650s are the best twin ever made! They run forever.
The first of May I riding one to Az from Wa should be fun.

I do have some TCI boxes if you need one. Thanks for watching.
One benefit of getting a basket case bike that needs everything is that everything gets done.
Isn't that the truth plus if you like building that's the fun part! Thanks for watching

Mmm bacon. Awesome video
🥓
loved the video! what kind of gas millage you get from the 650? must be pretty good?
Around 42 mpg +or- on most of my xs650s.. thanks for watching.
Mr. Miyagi
Again, I am rebuilding the xs 650...do I really need to weld the crank pin? Don't beat on bikes....just want a dependable 650.
Only if you going to race it full time but no you don't have to weld it.
How did the bike run with all the change in elevation. Did you notice any difference?
Yeah it ran a bit rich but I'm like doing another one next week so I've leaned her out one step on the needle and see how that works.
I wanna do this
Well what stopping you? Thanks you for watching..
nice
