Приєднався 11 гру 2012
We are Team Miyagi, a couple of senior citizens enjoying our senior moments. We travel off the beaten paths, by foot (size 8 1/2 and size 9 1/2), by motorcycle (81 Shovelhead and 80 XS650) and by 4 wheel drive (79 Ford F150). We are not outdoor experts, or even talented amateurs. We just like messing around in the outdoors, building campfires, cooking on cast iron, and spending the night under the stars. So join our team. Our names are Mr. and Mrs. Miyagi, and we are your team leaders.

What has the Englishman Gotten me into this Time
Worked like a charm on my xs650 chopper I've been building! First bump of the rear brakes and boom, clutch is free and works great! Thank you so much man, love the videos lots of knowledge here!
You are so welcome I'm so glad it worked out for you and thanks for watching.
Thank you good sir great video man
Hey, thank for watching!
My dumb ahh broke a key iny mini moto because it got stuck because I drive it in snow and salt and got it all gummed up. Gotta walk it an hour to the shop. Ordered a new ignition. Hope I can drill it out and not walk
Well, luckily you can get a new ignition setup some of the stuff we work on , we just can't find the stock ignition. Good luck with it mate! Thanks for watching
Would this work with a zx6r 1996? Ebay sent me the wrong ignition just fed up now. Debating putting a toggle switch.
Well, after looking at a wiring diagram I found online it looks fairly simple looks like you have two wires from the ignition switch it operates the rest of the wiring. It was a brown and a white. If you have a wiring diagram of your bike you can double check me. Let me know if it works. Thanks for watching
@@outlaw86custom hey I tried this and it worked. The lock smith quoted me 400$ to cut a new key for the old ignition. I went over to Canadian tire and paid 15$ for a switch and wired a 100ohm resistor into it. You saved my life today. Keep making videos your awesome 😎👍
Would it help to press it into position then blow hot air through it to make it maleable?
at 2.19, there is a hairpin. it goes in the other way. the way you have intstalled it, it will fall out.
Yeah I know if you have watch the video of me putting it in proper after I blew my transmission up you know I corrected the problem. Thanks for watching
@@outlaw86custom ive just seen this one as im currently getting my motor back together. but you make great videos ! just figured id say it here on this one for those that havent seen the others. i gotta ask though. was that pin comming out the reason for the failure ?
Great video! Thanks for putting this out there for us newbies to wrench!
You're very welcome, I know one thing my cam works really great. Thanks for watching!
Hi Mr myagi, l have a xs2, and here is my problem, when I'm riding the revs don't go down when I change gear, they do if I shut down the gas and brake. I have checked the weights on auto advance /retard they work fine carburetors work fine, now I'm stuck, can you help please Rob simonds. Uk
I've had this happen before to me check for vacuum leaks like at the manifolds and the diaphragm. Let me know if this helped any and I'll go back and check my notes. Thanks for watching.
I just want to express my gratitude for posting these tutorials. Currently building a hardtail ‘82 XS650J chopper. I will put the knowledge you’ve shared to good work!
That's great, keep those xs650s alive! Thanks for watching!
I've been working on the Yamaha carbs, I got a rebuild kit from Mike's XS, went one size up on the main and pilot, and cleaned the carb in an ultrasonic cleaner. I got it all put together and put them on the bike with rough settings, it started the first kick and could rev it straight away and after a couple minutes, I pushed the choke in and ran great. It's a different bike. I'm happy, thank you Mr Miyagi for your help. 😊
Hey, glad to hear you got that old bike running good. Thanks for watching
@@outlaw86custom I have a question, I finally got the bike put back together and took it for a spin and again it ran great, but it is still racing at idle 2000 or 2500 RPM or if I turn the idle down at the next stop sign it will probably stall, I can't figure out why, do I need to go richer in the idle jet, richen or lean out the fuel mixture?
OK, I have just found the culprit the vacuum tube that goes to the petcock was disconnected at the tank so I didn't notice it, just took it for a spin, and made a couple of adjustments to the hot idle and bang, she runs beautifully.
Thank you for making this video, did you have to remove the front subframe?
No but I did lower enough to get the metal pieces I needed in place and weld it. Thanks for watching
@outlaw86custom oh now I get It, that's very smart, I guess if you do one side at a time you can keep it all together. Thanks for the help, I'm just getting this job sorted on my 94 L400, much more confident, having seen your video
Thanks for all the insight Mr miyagi I've got several old shovelheads that I've put together but watching your video has brought me some new information I've also got a 650 Yamaha hardtail bobber that I need to wire up I've got a huge hand built I've got the capacitor but I don't think I have the regulator so I'll have to find one of those and figure out how to wire this I just need headlight tail light and brake and that's all but thanks for all of your information You and Pacific Mike always seem to come through and Ralph at this is my time let's go He's good and others but you're one of the best thank you again
Thank you, yeah those capacitors only work with the upgraded staters and regulator. Thanks for watching
Mr miyagi you are the man right You ever see any Bigfoot in your travels
No, I haven't but once Mrs Miyagi said she saw something like a big "Harry" thing running off into the trees. Now, I think it may have been a grizzly bear but then again I didn't see it. Saw a UFO once up in the hills of eastern Washington 🛸. Thanks for watching.
Great Videos. Very Helpful. Gonna be re building and finishing an XS650 Chopper Project that my 23 yr old Son Parker started before he passed away in a Harley accident in 2023. Doing it in Honor of his Passion! Just got it into my shop last week. Just found broken piston ring and will be yanking the motor. Thank You
Sorry about your lost. Thanks for watching.
@@outlaw86custom Thank You. Been a tough road... Gonna kick ass on this build that he started.
Hello Mr. Miyagi First of all, I'd like to thank you for your videos. They have taught me a bunch steping into the motorcycle world. I wanted to know if you knew anything of the Huges Handbuilt Xs650 cdi replacement kit and if so, if you would do a video on how to properly install it? Thank you once again and appreciate your time 🍻
Don't have one but I guess they are a good unit . I've used Pamco or Mike's ignition unit. Right now I don't have an xs650 video. You know this all comes out of my pocket. Thanks for watching.
What battery is that?
It's a small lithium battery that the customer wanted to use.
Hello Mr. Miyagi, I have a 1980 XS650. My bike has a hard time to up shift on all gears. Instead of upshifting, it goes to neutral. I found the 2nd larger selector spring was broken (there are two springs). Is that the cause or do I keep searching?
Could be the spring but clutch adjustment also can make it hard to shift along with the broken spring. Let me know what else you find. Thanks for watching.
Bravo ❤
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Thanks you for the video
Thanks for watching!
What jetting did you use when you installed the K&N filters and what did you do with the oil breather
First off thanks for watching, but I need to know if you're running Open exhaust of any type which also makes a difference. This 1980 runs the BS 34s carburetors and I used a believe a 150 main and the pilot yet was 47.5. but this bike also runs open exhaust with a slight baffling, needle was set on the third slot.If you have any other questions don't hesitate send me a message. So I hope this helps some.
@@outlaw86custom I'm running standard exhausts and standard crabs, 1981 XS650 Special at around 2000 feet of elevation
Hi Mr Miyagi, I wish for you and Mrs Miyagi a wonderful Christmas and all the happiness possible ;) (I changed my "nickname" now, but it's Dorian.)
Hey Dorian, Merry Christmas and happy New year!
I would like to see you put the carbs back on the motorcycle, start, and adjust them.
Does it matter what kinda bike it is?
XS650: Great bikes!! Bullet-proof engine! Didn't handle as well as its British counterparts tho. I minor tweak, I think in '76, was when Yamaha moved the F. brake caliper from in front of the fork to the rear of the fork. This actually helped the handling a bit.
I love the old XS650 but I've owned several Triumphs over the years. So for me I love them all and Yamaha moving caliper position did help the way the bike handled. Thanks for watching.
Nice work! Thank you for the up-close look. I'm starting to believe I can do this. I guess there's a first time for everything... My 4-speed shifts fine but it leaks like a sieve. Thanks for mentioning if the gearbox was shifting okay before then the Fork Adjustment Tool isn't really necessary. I'm glad to hear that bc for rotary tops it's almost $200 (ratchet lids it's only $75). Hopefully I won't need it... Thanks again!
You'll be fine just take your time plus take pictures of your transmission as you take it apart. You can always email me at teammiyagi@hotmail.com Thanks for watching.
@@outlaw86custom Thank you so much that is very kind of you.
I have to do this next week on my '81 FXWG. I bought an All Balls 1.4kw and it looks the same as yours. At 3:34 you say you didn't want that to happen. How do you prevent that from happening? Maybe it will be obvious when I'm actually doing it but I thought I'd ask. Anyway thanks for a great video it is very helpful.
Sorry to take so long getting back to you but it's holiday time. The trick is is the use your thumbs to push that shaft through that front now that way it holds the armature in place so that the brushes stay in contact. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
@@outlaw86custom Oh okay thanks I think I got it now. And thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate it. I hope you all have a great holiday and Happy New Year to you too!
Excellent. Thank you. From another Englishman. Nick.
Thanks Nick!
Looking good!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Hello Mr. Miyagi. I enjoy your demeanor as well as the projects. I hope some young people watch and get motivated to build their own bike!!
They are because some even stop by the shop.
Hi Mr Miyagi ! I like the look will has the bike ! That will be really "Café racer" look right from the "Ace café" to London :D The English man will loves it I think :D Many good tips too, I will attempt to keep that in mind ;) Be and ride safe ;) Dorian.

Hey, another great video! Quick question.... How do you know what size spokes you need for each wheel? Working on a Suzuki vs800 intruder. Any advice would be appreciated. 🫡

Has the ticking on the scram engine when hot gone after the cam change? Want to know the overall performance
Yeah, the ticking is pretty much gone away there's a little bit but not like it was before, if you know what I'm talking about. As for the performance, I felt a difference in it you seems to be able to have a more throttle response on the highway. Of course I'm also looking at the big borer kit you know how all that stuff goes on and on and on but I'm happy with the performance of it now. Haven't had a real good chance to go out and really thump it through the woods but on the highway it works great. Thanks for watching!
@outlaw86custom i think the new cam doesn't have the decompressor as i as u installing.happy riding
Gonna look nice
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Hi Mr Miyagi ! 😃 Wow, need a lot of calm and patience to work on spoke wheels 😅 I never try this pain at this time eheh😂 Love the tool to let the tire in place ! very nice ! Can't wait to see the bike on the road 😉 Ride safe
Thanks, there's a lot more coming up, so stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Mr Miyagi for another one. My friend who got me into XS bikes has a 650 and it came into question whether the camshaft was reversed or not(apparently the bike can run like that) I think this puts it to rest. I see that threaded side going to the right and it’s visible just by taking the side cover off.
I'm glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Great video Mr Miyagi but with respect, they wont be Philips headed screws, they will be JIS screws, [ Stands for Japanese Industrial Standard ] the profile in the screw head is slightly different and so to avoid mushing the heads after they've been in there for years you should therefore use JIS type screwdrivers. Sorry to seem a know -all but it might help someone avoid a lot of hassle in the future.
That's why I changed them to allen heads, thanks for the input.
Thanks Mr M!
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching.
The CB350 was my first bike. I bought a red '72 in '73...when I started working at Rick Case Honda in Kent OH. I was 19. Pulled the head, put CB450 intake valves in it, cleaned up the port castings areas, used HRC 305 valve springs. And drag handlebars! That was the beginning of motorcycle lust for me!
Mark, hope I'm doing it right. My motorcycle fantasy started at age 12 and still exists today at age 74. Thanks for watching!
Goodjob ..
Thanks we try. Thanks for watching!
hello good man, I have the chopper craze, had it for 50 years, serious plague. I have a 24 over springer on xs hard tail with no rake, it is jacked up pretty good. Will it still pump oil, your wisdom is important to me.This is mostly a show bike. But need to start, for run to coffee shop.
Well the flatter the engine is the better it will pump oil. Since the oil pick up is toward the front of the engine it may not pump enough oil plus these engines only have about 15 lbs of oil pressure. Can you send a picture of the xs650? Thanks for watching!
Hi Mr Miyagi, and Mr the Englishman ! :p Well done ! happy to listen this engine ! Always a moment full of surprises the first fire up of a rebuilt engine ! :D Ride safe ! Dorian.
Thanks Dorian! Thanks for watching.
Doing this on my bike now, your video is very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks and be safe out there. Thanks for watching!
Hi Mr Miyagi ! Nice rebuild, I did once on a GS 500E, not so easy to do when it's the first time :D Love the bad ass test with the battery lol. :D Take care and ride safe :D
Thanks D , not always easy to rebuild these old starters . Be safe out there and thanks for watching.
Thanks for this. Just what a fella needed. What kind of lifting block is that with the rope brake/grab? Link?
a.co/d/5WJk0kd or a.co/d/7213HYH Mine was Sailboat main sheet set up , now I linked to a couple of them ,one is like what I have the other is cheaper than mine but I think it would work fine. Thanks for watching!
I think I speak for everyone here, I for one look forward to your upcoming videos, your helpful nature to teach us Wrenching on our bikes even if we don't have that particular one is so rewarding to watch, once again Mr Miyagi- THANK YOU!
Thank you so very much it means a lot to me. I try to do my best on these videos plus since I'm in the shop anyway, why not film it. Sometimes in the shop I have few people watching me film video not easy with people watching 😜. So if there's any content you would like me to make a video of please send along. Thanks for watching!
