Really? I thought the weapons in megaman 4 were all pretty darn useful. Except for the skull shield, that one SUCKS. The pharaoh shot is slightly bigger and can be aimed in 6 directions, but doesn't have unlimited weapon energy like the metal blade so it isn't overpowered. The dust crusher packs a punch and is likely to damage nearby enemies. The drill bomb I just find satisfying to use sometimes. Maybe it's fun to blow stuff up, I don't know. The rain flush can get you out of sticky situations. The ring boomerang is really nice for multiple targets as it's big and pierces through enemies. the dive missile is nice for completely removing aim front he equation but doesn't really work against shielded enemies. The flash stopper freezes time and actually gives you a way to attack enemies.
***** I agree, megaman 5 I felt was a step back in terms of weapons. I do wish that capcom would remake the classic games on modern consoles so they can fix up issues the games had, like making the metal blade not overpowered, and making it so the top spin doesn't suck so much, and change the less enjoyed bosses. (Like the turret boss and the yellow devil) I can't see them selling that well though. Looking at the poor sales of megaman 10, it makes sense that capcom hasn't made a new megaman game. I feel that, apart from Mega Man 9, all the weapons are pretty solid and can see used on pretty much any other stage you play next at some point. Skull barrier is also the best shield weapon in the NES games (Junk barrier being my personal favourite)
Honestly, I think you're underrating Mega Man 4's weapons by a fair bit; they're honestly really strong for the most part. It's funny, i absolutely loved Mega man Man 1&2 around the time they came out back during the tail end of the 80's, but 4 is when the franchise started to get a bit stale, which was around 91. What i can't stand about 4 is it's grating whiny tinny soundtrack(So much "TSH TSH TSH' in the music), Dr. cossak's castle, and when the music stops completely whenever a robot masters life bar 'slowl'y fills up before you fight them. Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea? Overall, it didn't reach the heights of even MM3. 2, 1, 7(Underrated) & 9 are my personal favourites. 8 would be better if they re-released the saturn version(Which has better environmental effects and boss fights against Cut man & wood man) and redubbed all of the voice acting. As is, I'd rather play Mega Man & Bass on Super Famicom. ;) That's a wonderful gem so many people have missed out on, and it's easily the better game of the two.
@JJ C "It's a decent game. Nothing special." Goes to show how much you've actually played the game. "But nowhere near as good as 2, 3 & 6." 2 had bland level design, horrible weapons, the worst Wily Castle Stages, and mostly cheap enemy placement, more like a step down from the first game. 3 had glitches, the awful Doc Robot stages and bosses, unresponsive inputs, insane lag, mediocre Wily Castle Stages, and hit and miss weapons. 6 had bad control, samey level design, pathetic bosses, overused Rush Adapters, and brought almost nothing new to the table (like Mega Man 5). I have two words to say. Nico Evaluates. If you want to see a critic who actually knows what Mega Man is, check him out.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 Stop recommending nico as he was some kind of megaman god lmao He just has his (biased sometimes) opinions about the games and what he considers good and bad designs. Me, for example cant say that 4 is better than 3 even tho 4 is one of the best ones Just the fact that nico bashed on the wily stages in 3 because they were short in contrast to never say anything to every single level in 4 (that were way shorter than 3's levels) or even pretend that 4 doesnt have input problems (Which its not fucking truth) proofs that theres in fact some bias on his analysis Theres much things he overlooks when he does his videos (also 6's level design isnt "Samey" lmao) Hes not a god after all, good critic tho
@@Jrdotan I'm not an obnoxious Nico fanboy anymore. I'm still subscribed to him, but I've since calmed down. I would like to address some points though. Before I do though, there's something you need to know about me. My favourite games within a lot of franchises tend to be third instalments. Mario Party 3, Tomb Raider 3, Crash 3, Spyro 3, Castlevania 3, etc. The fact that Mega Man 3 isn't my favourite of the classic series should tell you I can still be critical on a game, no matter if it has my favourite number or not. "Just the fact that nico bashed on the wily stages in 3 because they were short in contrast to never say anything to every single level in 4 (that were way shorter than 3's levels)" Mega Man 3 and 4's robot master stages were just as long as each other. The second half is a different story. 3 becomes a mixture of bloated and anticlimactic, whereas 4 is consistently enjoyable all the way through with the right length without overstaying its welcome. "or even pretend that 4 doesnt have input problems (Which its not fucking truth) proofs that theres in fact some bias on his analysis" Mega Man 4 doesn't have input problems. I've played the game more times than 3, and I encountered far more unresponsive inputs in the latter. Mega Man 3 was a rushed game and it shows. Mega Man 4 is simply a much more polished and consistent game, simply because it's able to take the rough engine of 3 and iron out all of the kinks. Nico is biased, but he does a good job keeping his bias to a minimum (He had a friend of him come on his show to point out what he missed out on the Mega Man 4 evaluation). It's why I'm subscribed to him. I like Mega Man 3 quite a bit, but you can't convince me that it's better when you have the Doc Robots being a major low point of the series.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 But the doc stages arent the wily stages bruh. Or you are talking about one or another Im making statements exclusively about the wily stages, that were in fact THE FIRST wily stages to got the pacing and structure right. About the input problems, yes it has man. Not just ot eats the inputs if you press any buttons fast in a screen transition (try press the charge button when transitioning a screen for example) But also has a very strange thing with shooting in opposite directions when you do faster, almost anytime i try to do it the game simple doesnt understand the command and shoots in the wrong direction. In fact the problems with inputs in 4 are WAY easier to notice than in 3 at the point that most people i know never had any problems with 3.
I constantly forget which robot masters come from which game, especially because, for some reason, I got a hold of mega man for the game gear a good while before mega man 4 and 5, which mixes content from these two games
Mega Man 2 and 3 feel like platformers. Not sure what it is about 5 that's different, but when I play it it feels like an adventure. Star Man's in outer space, Napalm Man's jungle feels steamy and threatening, Charge Man's stage is a goddamn train, Wave Man has that awesome Marine Bike segment... MM5 introduced actual ENVIRONMENTS, something you can thank MM6 for perfecting. As always though, Johnny, you don't fail to get the facts straight. Many, many kudos on that front.
I can understand why MM4 and MM5 can be known as the black sheep, but I kinda find them pretty good games. I appreciate MM2 but I personally don't find it the best game out of the classic series. I really liked MM5 but haven't had much experience with MM4 due to what you said- ridiculous enemy placements.
I've played Mega man 4 and can safely say, yes, the fact that Toad Man's pattern resets with just one power pellet was intentional, because if you don't do the easy way of beating him he'll do a unavoidable screen nook, which is guaranteed damage
Hey man, nice review! just recently discovered your channel. You have a great balance of comedy while still being very clear and straight to the point which makes it really entertaining! Before watching this I had never touched a single Mega Man title and had no intention to do so, but now i can say i'll definitely be giving this series a go! Say Hi to your newest subscriber!
Man, I damn adore Mega Man 4! Everything Mega Man 2 did, 4 did right! It's better in every aspect, and I still don't understand why people overpraise the second game. Are the nostalgia glasses that thick?
@@jjc4924 Best weapons of the NES games. Fantastic music. Best controls. Introduction of the first good weapon menu, cutscenes, secret items, split paths, Eddie, the charge shot, double castles, etc. Some of the best looking backgrounds and overall aethetics from the first six games. Yes, Mega Man 4 really is that great. Compared to 1 which had first game syndrome, 2 which is horrendously overrated, 3 which was heavily rushed to make a deadline, 5 which had the worst balance of the entire series, and 6 which is quite good, 4 comes out on top in my eyes.
@@esmooth919 I think I actually used the charge shot in 5 instead of the power stone against whoever was weak to it. It really is just a horrific weapon. But you're right. 5 in my opinion has the worst weapons in the entire classic series
Nah that would be more Zero. More violent playstyle, dark backstory, dies with a confusing explanation for his return (the second time) and can become evil, has been a hero. Plus he's got that upward spiked helmet like Shadow's quills. Also red armor with a black alt compared to the classic blue.
megaman V will always have a special place in my heart simply because it was the very first classic megaman game i ever played and fully beaten. i love the soundtrack and gameplay and altough bringing nothing new to the table to veteran megaman players was still fresh and new for me.
The "Mega Buster" has always been the name for Mega Man's arm cannon. The intro is introducing the "New Mega Buster", not the new "Mega Buster". I don't blame anyone for making that mistake, but it is a mistake. Also, the charge shot has the same exact power in every classic game to my knowledge (at least four and five).
it's pretty busted in 5 and 6 but balanced in 4. it's the weakest in 7 to compensate ig. not very useful in 8 either but that's because most enemies are wet tissue paper with normal shots anyway, it's better in &bass because that's not the case. 9 and 10's are the same as 4 and 11's is balanced.

It took me years after watching this review to realize this, but Kalinka is ALSO a music reference
Hey Johnny, your Metal Sonic figure is still awesome.
0:11 That poster's bound to piss someone off.
The mighty number 9 promotion did not age well
Another great review dude. Always enjoyable!
Mega Man 4 Is My Favorite Classic MM Game.
It's a decent game. Nothing special. Better than 1 & 5 in my honest opinion. But nowhere near as good as 2, 3 & 6.
@JJ C
"It's a decent game. Nothing special."
Goes to show how much you've actually played the game.
"But nowhere near as good as 2, 3 & 6."
2 had bland level design, horrible weapons, the worst Wily Castle Stages, and mostly cheap enemy placement, more like a step down from the first game.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 Stop recommending nico as he was some kind of megaman god lmao
He just has his (biased sometimes) opinions about the games and what he considers good and bad designs.
Me, for example cant say that 4 is better than 3 even tho 4 is one of the best ones
Just the fact that nico bashed on the wily stages in 3 because they were short in contrast to never say anything to every single level in 4 (that were way shorter than 3's levels) or even pretend that 4 doesnt have input problems (Which its not fucking truth) proofs that theres in fact some bias on his analysis
Theres much things he overlooks when he does his videos (also 6's level design isnt "Samey" lmao)
Hes not a god after all, good critic tho

I'm not an obnoxious Nico fanboy anymore.
"Just the fact that nico bashed on the wily stages in 3 because they were short in contrast to never say anything to every single level in 4 (that were way shorter than 3's levels)"
Mega Man 3 and 4's robot master stages were just as long as each other. The second half is a different story. 3 becomes a mixture of bloated and anticlimactic, whereas 4 is consistently enjoyable all the way through with the right length without overstaying its welcome.
"or even pretend that 4 doesnt have input problems (Which its not fucking truth) proofs that theres in fact some bias on his analysis"
Mega Man 4 doesn't have input problems.
Or you are talking about one or another
Im making statements exclusively about the wily stages, that were in fact THE FIRST wily stages to got the pacing and structure right.
About the input problems, yes it has man.
Not just ot eats the inputs if you press any buttons fast in a screen transition (try press the charge button when transitioning a screen for example)
But also has a very strange thing with shooting in opposite directions when you do faster, almost anytime i try to do it the game simple doesnt understand the command and shoots in the wrong direction.
MEGAMAN YOU MUST STOP DR.COCKSACK I MEAN DR.COSSACK!
the project was already at that point before the vid, but now were CERTAINLY getting that console release. Thank you Johnny!

11:13 This and also Megaman getting the Robot Masters' power after their fight. Constant ringing in the ears 😅
4 is actually my favorite, with 6 close behind. Though 7 may overthrow 4 with time.
Seeing the Might No. 9 plug at the end of this made me realize how long we've been waiting.. ;
That mighty no 9 promo...
I've played Mega man 4 and can safely say, yes, the fact that Toad Man's pattern resets with just one power pellet was intentional, because if you don't do the easy way of beating him he'll do a unavoidable screen nook, which is guaranteed damage
7:47 makes you invincible in the mario games. HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE

Megaman 4 is my favourite in the series
MM4 used to be my favorite. Mega Man 7 is my favorite of the classic series.
4 isn't that great honestly.
@@jjc4924 But it is.
No. Not really. But whatever makes u feel happy.
Like I said, whatever you say. It's your opinion and I respect that.
Anyone know the song at 15:17?

Johnny, just gotta say that I love your game reviews man. Please keep up the good work and don't stop making vids!!

What the he'll does a starman do.? I'll tell you what it does it makes mario invincible
3 years on and we're still waiting on Mighty No. 9
+Revanaught more like "make your backers cry like an anime fan on prom night"
I love Mega Man 5, but yeah, the “Power Stone” might be one of the most laughably bad weapons in the entire series. That thing really sucks. Lol
I find most of the weapons in Mega Man 5 either useless or situational
@@esmooth919 I think I actually used the charge shot in 5 instead of the power stone against whoever was weak to it. It really is just a horrific weapon. But you're right. 5 in my opinion has the worst weapons in the entire classic series
How do you _somehow top the top spin_ in terms of bad?
Yeah. 5 has the worst weapons in the series. And I thought Top Spin was the only worst weapon in any Mega Man games

"What does a Starman do?" I don't know, but I think he'd like to meet us but he fears he'll blow our minds.
Well then, Protoman seems to be Capcom's version of Shadow The Hedgehog.
Nah that would be more Zero. More violent playstyle, dark backstory, dies with a confusing explanation for his return (the second time) and can become evil, has been a hero. Plus he's got that upward spiked helmet like Shadow's quills. Also red armor with a black alt compared to the classic blue.
DeoxysAndMew 2 technically protoman came first. It’s just shadow made more of an first impression I guess

megaman V will always have a special place in my heart simply because it was the very first classic megaman game i ever played and fully beaten. i love the soundtrack and gameplay and altough bringing nothing new to the table to veteran megaman players was still fresh and new for me.
someone make a gif of 3:58 pls
I'm on it!
Thanks for agreeing. You're right, the poster was there for 2 seconds so there's little point in bringing it up.

If only Johnny knew back then how bad mighty #9 would be
Fuck yeah Mighty Nr. NEIN!
Looking forward to it!
Oh thay had no idea what mighty no9 was actually going to be
