I am really looking forward to an adventure that doesn't have you dealing with groups of cultists or barbarian hordes. This seems like a refreshing change. I wish there was more gazateer information on the feywild though. Do you think it will work to serve as a sourcebook for further feywild adventures?
What d&d 5e adventure has barbarian hordes?
@@AAron-gr3jk Icewind Dale has a couple of encounters where you fight some barbarian type enemies
There's also the Domains of Delight PDF supplement, which could better fit this purpose.
After reading the entire thing, I would say it’s not great for further adventures because it focuses specifically on a Domain of Delight, a separate realm of fey. It will definitely gives clues on tone and guides On environment. But specifics might be a bit thin.
That’s great to hear! I have been excited about this adventure. I’m normally not a minimal-combat guy, but hope that it’s good enough to enjoy anyway, can’t wait for next week!
This is going to be my first adventure as a DM! And this was super helpful, thank you!
Have fun!
Extremely Awesome, Detailed & Wonderful Review of "The Wild Beyond the Witchlight" by you Sir....Bravo Again to you Sir. Thx so much 4 Sharing... 👽👽👻😉😉
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice review, Jeff. Congrats on over 1k views on your first look of this book. Congrats to Caroline Krause on winning the cool cover! 🥳
phenomenal upload The Gaming Gang. I shattered that thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the awesome work.
Thanks for the visit!
Great breakdown!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Finally something on the feywild.
I'm DM'ing my very first game to this adventure. I'm beyond excited, high fantasy like this is my wheel-house. Most of my players are newer as well, so it's gonna be a ton of fun, I can already tell.
Hope you enjoy it!
I buy the book, download the PDF by... Different methods, then print the inserts. Then I delete the PDF.
1978 for me, Jeff, and I'm excited to run this one.
Well, I was excited until I started to read it. You know how, in Tolkien's Middle Earth Morgoth can't make anything original and can only pervert the works of others? I'm seeing a lot of Morgoth in Chris Perkins.
With the extras like story tracker and role play cards, I only can’t help but regret the death of the boxed sets. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the book (maybe one smaller book for each region) some cardboard you can punch out for all your DM aids and nice neat maps (and more of them) that you don’t have to destroy your nice hard cover book to retrieve?
I completely agree. It wouldn't be such an issue if WotC just offered the maps and aids as fee digital extras but we'll never see that.
Heya Jeff, just got back to D&D after like 20 year hiatus from the game (haven't played since AD&D got translated into Hebrew!).
You sound like my kind of player, who likes RPing and problem solving.
Any other recommended 5e adventures? Already ordered Curse of Strahd everyone keeps yammering about, and contemplating other purchases (beside Witchlight, of course :P ).
Thanks for this review!
I would stay away from the earliest of the WotC 5E adventures because they aren't very good, IMO, you might want to take a look at the two starter adventures from the starter set and Essentials set as they're both pretty good. I also like the Saltmarsh and Avernus books quite a bit. ~ Jeff
@@Thegaminggang I already saw that you liked Dragon Heist. Is that still true in retrospect? And what did you think about Storm King's Thunder?
Thanks Jeff! Subscribed :B
Thanks for the sub!
First thing im going to do in a non combat adventure is. Tell the whole party they are all evil or chaotic character that have infiltrated the fey-wilds. Kill and destroy everything.
Players smile
You just made me buy it :D
Enjoy!
if you know, how does this compare to GrymmWorld? if it does at all.
OMG THE DANDELION
Sweet! Been waiting for this- thanks
Hope you like it!
This is Oz
Well, I guess I’ll have to buy this.
I am going to buy it it looks like its good.

The fact that there is almost no combat, is going to be a problem. For me as a DM it is, and for the players I run this for, it will be aswell. There are a few combat opportunities, and the players fingers will be itching at those moments to pull the trigger and get their abilities used. BUT, in Hither, where everyone is level 2, the rare occasions where this happens... the cr of the creatures is 7+. So if you are not running this without adjustments, this will be a great flaw.
1. little combat, lots of roleplay (which I think is a good thing)
2. But badly balanced with the amount of combat and the CR (which will feel like a real bummer: the one opportunity where they can fight, they don't want to be put in the ground for it)
I'll be incorporating a lot of side quests in this to get some combat in it, linked to player backstories, and I will be adjusting those deadly encounters to something more realistic.
A 9.5/10 looks a bit much; I'd give it 8/10.
You know your group so do what's best. As for your reviews score: to each their own. :)
The book itself says you can start your players at 3rd level for a more balanced combat experience if you really want some fighting in the adventure.
I don't really understand why people review campaign books whilst trying to avoid spoilers. As a player, I'm not going to buy the book, as a DM I do not care about spoilers. I'm going to read the whole thing if I buy it anyway, and I want a review that tells me as much as possible about the story I may be going to run.
Good to know your thoughts. Other GMs have commented on the past review videos they don't want specifics in a review so there's at least two differing opinions. I'll also mention WotC isn't too keen on including more than a small amount spoilers in D&D reviews. If I share spoilers, people complain about the spoilers too. Since I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't I figure I'll err on the side of don't. ~ Jeff
@@Thegaminggang Completely fair. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Who is this video for? Around the 3:10 or so mark, you state that there are spoilers for both potential players (because obviously) but also for DMs because it’ll ruin the experience of reading through it for the first time.
Why do a review at all then? Why not just do a first impressions? I like reviews because they give me an idea as to whether I’ll want to buy a book to run as a DM. And I agree with you, I would much rather discover things for myself by reading through it. But once I do that, I no longer need a review… because I already bought the book.
This video isn't for you then. Not all gamers are like you and may not have made up their minds about buying this adventure; the comments also bear that out. I pointed out I wasn't going to reveal major spoilers because I don't want to ruin the reading experience for DMs. I never said I was going to ruin their experience.
Why don't you go ahead and launch your own channel and shoot tabletop gaming videos since you feel you know exactly what gamers need in their vids... ~ Jeff
@@Thegaminggang Nah - I never said I knew what people want only that I was confused? I suppose maybe I just don’t know what to look for in videos. Maybe I was just thinking the video was a first impressions and was a little surprised - no shame in that.
I can’t imagine the delicate line creators have to balance - how do you do a review for a module for DMs that gives honest thoughts and at the same time avoids spoilers? I have no idea. Kudos for you in your attempts to do so.
No trolling meant in my comment at all - honestly. But you do have a point, perhaps I just have to find a channel that caters to those who may think like I do.
