My PCs enjoyed the carnival for about 5 hours of game time before an NPC reminded them of their quests and goals, thereby shifting the player's attention. The characters had pretty much forgotten about Prismeer, and their lost stuff, but that's fine. They enjoyed the hours of mindless fun. DMs have rushed parties through the carnival in 4 hours or less, but unless you're trying to finish within a certain timeframe, why not relax and let the players relax too? As long as the party leaves the carnival before it seems boring, you're on schedule.
For sure!
Murder Mystery at the Carnival one-shot
just in time for halloween haha!
My players are presumably going to lead a workers revolution or some such nonsense I'll never see coming.
haha best to just sit back and roll with the punches haha!
This is what my players almost did. But since most of them are witchlight hands, I reminded them that for most of the workers the carnival is their home.
When my group played this, neither the shy cleric nor the former-thief druid wanted to steal from Mr. Witch or Mr. Light, so I had to quickly come up with an alternative. I had my DMPC (we only had a few players) suggest that we help out people around the carnival and if we helped out other Hands affected by whatever bad goings-on was happening and they all confronted Mr. Witch and Mr. Light at the same time, they'd finally relent.
Getting ready to run witch light, had session 0. Your notes have been the most helpful info I've found for summarizing the events and locations . nice job and thank you!
Thank you so much!
Using the Mystery Mine as an entrance to the feywild is just so flavourful, even more because all my players and I watched the cartoon as we grew up. I will be definitely using that one!
haha heck yeah!
This is one I'm definitely thinking of doing with my players, I once just mentioned there was a fairground in a one shot as a reason they where all in town. That one shot turned into a couple sessions cause they wanted to explore all of it, and I had to make up games on the fly. I would love for one of my pc's to get crowned the witchlight monarch but they do have a devient side to them.
Haha only time and luck will tell!
"Clown fiesta" *horn honk*
Lol that sent me.
Haha contrary to my name , I sometimes allow fun
oh wow. I was NOT expecting a reference to the cinematic masterpiece of Black Knight! Thanks for the useful and informative guides! I hear this is an "easy" module, but I'm honestly having trouble keeping track of everything
Great presentation.
thank you so much for making these videos! i was behind on some of my prep for my first ever game with my new group and these guides saved my ass in recalling the information a few hours before my first session. went off with very few hitches! my players had a lot of fun and caught glimpses of some of the dark little secrets. i even got to have thaco tell a player off (who was playing a worker). got everyone to come together at the feasting hall for an eating contest and one of them won the prize while the other 2 chucked on the last roll. XD gonna be using these videos to for aid in the future thats for sure.
haha awesome stuff!
Thank you for this very helpful guide! My players will be starting to explore the carnival tonight and I'm excited to see what choices they make and how it turns out for them.
thank you and good luck!
Sounds interesting for sure
oh it is haha!
Have you read the lore about the carneval in the Shadowfell (Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft)? I think i try to implement some hints, that the carneval had changed a lot, since the players visited the Carneval last time as a child, when Isolde was the owner. So i try to create some suspicion or mystery about the new owners, Mr Witch and Mr Light. Through that i hope my players are more interested in working together with them and not against them.
for sure! awesome stuff!
You could also do a silly carnival rivalry campaign since Isolde's Carnival and The Witchlight Carnival were stated by Chris Perkins to be mirrors of each other, one for the Shadowfell (Isolde) and one for the Feywild (Witchlight). There is a lot you could do with that if you're a really experienced DM
@@Hey-Its-Dingo read the book. it actually mentions the other carnival. or at least refers to it often.
Sorry I'm late, working ot. Beetle/Grimm bought today!!!
heck yeah! im sure its full of awesome goodies!
@@NoFunAllowed I'm counting on it! It ships in November so if it's here by Thanksgiving then I can make it a multi day campaign
Out of curiosity, what program are you using with all the notes/resources? I've always used the actual books for games but this looks so helpful and easy to navigate!
Roll 20!
I think my players would forget the main objective.
haha thats why you gotta smack that quest right in their view haha!
im not really sure what to do if players ask mr witch and mr light directly about the hourglass coven, in the case that they learned about the hags on the carousel. how would they react?
they would most likely be akwardly dismissive and avoid saying anything, knowing that they could be currently beeing spyed on!
I already have someone who is basing a character after the white rabbit from Alice in wonderland before his adventure down the rabbit hole, so I'm going to try really hard to have them steal the watch kinda the orgin story of the white rabbit and how he got his watch we shall see if I'm successful
Awesome stuff!
What happens if they don't figure it out in the 8 hrs. Or get kicked out?
Can they go back?
If they don't figure it out Ellywick will tell them the answer. If they get kicked out they can sneak in, there are rules for breaking in and sneaking around.
Question below SPOILER
What do you make of Zybilna/Iggwilv/Tasha being a L20 Wizard? That seems very low considering how much she was talked up in TCoE. Just curious to me. I know they won't fight her, but then what's the stat block? I have only read Chapter 1 so far.
the stat block is more than enough to handle anything in this campaign! also you could say that her stat block is weaker because of her hybernation! maybe she gets more powerful once eveything settles down for a while!
Why is the stat block there? The characters are LEVEL 8 and WILL GET CRUSHED!
@@melonyfbb that's not unusual. Look at Dragon Heist. Numerous NPCs/Villains are way out of the PCs league.
She's above a Level 20. She's a CR 20 which is supposed to mean she's a challenge to a group of level 20s.
She has an Int of 27.
@@O4C209 Yeah. I realized that after I posted. Again, not saying any party would/should fight her. I guess I just expected a higher CR.
I. Worried one or two of my players will try and kill witch and light as soon as they meet them.
haha then the whole carnival will lay the smack down!
@NoFunAllowed yeah luckily it didn't happen but yeap I was prepping for it.
