The first time I saw sygg river cutthroat, was the Professor's "Sygg with Swords"
I've kicked around the idea of building Sygg for years, for a few reasons: I love LOR/SHA; I love rogues; I love getting random value.
I never knew what direction to go with the deck, though, beyond "Undermine is prob good here."
This is all very helpful!
That's why I like Sygg so much, you can have it go with any kind of UB deck and it will be good :)
Awesome decklist!
I'm running more of the "unblockable rogue" type of decklist, but it's interesting seeing where the deck can be taken!
I found that "Ghoulish Impetus" works really well in this deck. It protects from dangerous creatures, and leads to more Sygg triggers.
Ghoulish Impetus seems really cool for this deck!
Cool deck - interesting that a lot of the value seems to rely on being passive and "not a threat" in dimir, the most threatening colours
Generally speaking dimir=not to be trusted
Cool deck! The foils look great and the card choice overall is fun. I start to play more with the good stuff approach and I like it(Abzan good stuff with Nethroi), its so different than playing with specific theme decks. A fun card to play with the swords in blue is Trophy Mage: you get Sword of HnH. Then you blink it for any other swords. Cool interraction to try!
That's actually a pretty sweet idea. I hadn't considered Trophy Mage at all before, but I kind of like that.
I alwais love that you alwais try to pimp the deck as much as possible,so cool!🎉
Thanks, I'm glad you appreciate it ;)
You've totally sold me on dowsing dagger! Picking one up for Alela, its an artifact so i get a faerie out of it, and she's basically guaranteed to be getting in for damage and flipping this thing. Cheers Dave!
Yeah it's a really sweet card. I feel like it ends up flipping over every time I cast it!
Good to see Sygg decks still runing. My Sygg Pet Deck is a Rogue Tribal
For the creatures I have two words: ledger shredder!
Oh yeah that's definitely a good choice!
I love my Sygg deck I built mine to be merfolk/rogue theme deck. Although I like the idea of building it to just play cards in that color.
i put a Sygg deck together recently and it mostly goes for "mediocre unblockable creature" typal. im not sure if i'll end up keeping it the way it is for long but ive enjoyed the few games ive played with it
Love Sygg 💙🖤
it's funny you talk about how you found out sygg, because I am playing black burn in modern and tested out sygg pretty recently! You're right in that he doesn't work that well, but Im just happy to find out one of my fave mtg youtubers knows the glory of black burn
In theory Sygg can draw you 2 cards every turn cycle! On your turn Bump in the Night, end step draw a card. On opponents turn Lightning Bolt them, end step draw a card. It just never works that way :P
@@8thPlaceDave yup or gontis etc. I have found that a) there's too much removal in modern to stick any creature that doesn't do anything right away. and b) the fact that you can't bolt them in response to the trigger makes it worse. it has to have happened going into the end step
Still trying to work vito in though
Not to take away from the deck, who made that playmat? It’s delightful!
Snugtheamazing, it's linked in the video description :)
@@8thPlaceDave Awesome! Thanks!
This is sweet
I wonder if Bloodletter of Aclazotz would run well in this deck? I run one in my Wilhelt zombies deck just to speed up drain cards and double damage from attackers. It just got a reprint in Ixalan as well so it's cheaper than the previous printing.
Oh yeah, that's one that I was thinking of actually. That could be pretty cool!
Whats the wincon?
This deck is somewhat similar to my Raffine draw and reanimate deck. Blue and Black is so much juice
Sygg is my favorite commander as well. Our decks are 80% similar, and I'd like to recommend a few cards that you don't have in your list. The biggest issue with Dimir is the lack of win conditions. If your opponents are playing lifegain, you essentially have no way to deal a significant amount of damage to them unless you have some sort of combo.[[Sorin Markov]] is really good, [[Erebos, God of the Dead]] stops lifegain and it is hard to deal with. [[Deadly Tempest]] is an amazing boardwipe and deals damage at the same time. [[Reins of Power]] can be a surprise wincon too.
Those are some good suggestions. Reins of Power in particular seems pretty sweet to me!
@@8thPlaceDave One more suggestion here. I think [[The Scarab God]] is not very good in this deck because it costs 5 mana, slow and has no evasion. A better option is [[Talion, the Kindly Lord]], it draws you card and drains your opponent. A fun option is [[Schema Thief]]. It is a 3 power evasive creature and can get you multiple sol rings or other powerful artifcats.
Even if it's expensive mana cost, I've ran Vorpal sword as a way to close out games in my Sygg-deck.
@@johanolsson4232 I don't play Vorpal Sword, it's not very good but it makes everyone try to kill you.
@@barrychan3722 Lmao agree on the "makes everyone try to kill you" part xD
Mmm foil Sygg. Back when foils were special.
Yeah it's a cool foil to play with ;)
How you keep your foils so straight?
Cards curve due to excess or lack of humidity. Double sleeving solves that problem
This deck is stored in a VERY tight deck box, so that probably helps.
How does Hasbro/WotC behave regarding IP?
Is this playmat design not a protected property belonging to a massive (and litigious) corporation?
Genuinely curious, hope this comment doesn’t sound accusatory/condemnatory
"Not competitive btw"
absolutely
Talion for 2 mana haha
I thought your Dino deck was your favorite
It's the one I play most often and one of my favourites, but this one is my #1 favourite ;)
