I gotta say, this has been a wild ride as a viewer. I came here for the flower dress and stuck around to see it finished. Then when you started on your home I immediately became addicted and started living vicariously through y’all 😂 I’m totally hooked on these videos. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
Well look at it like this. If you don't have a home right now when you do get one never say you can't do it. Learn how to do this stuff. It's actually fun. In the last year I've replaced my soffits and facia installed gutters repaired a slider window built two bedrooms and one bathroom. Next year is redo the family room including the drywall and flooring the seconnd bathroom and kitchen. All full guy and rebuild. It's fun and rewarding. And when you do it yourself you save like 70% vs having a pro do it. Have faith in yourself. You can do more than you know.
You guys should take some artistic photos of your construction, like the awesome rafters and then create a cool Black and White photo gallery wall in the office area of your new home.

@@SharkyJ40I remember her saying that too. Hope they’re following through on that idea. What a nice keepsake for all their followers. I’d happily put down money for a picture book of this build.

Ooh. You're supposed to leave the mixer running when you add the mix and when you dump it. It would probably go twice as fast that way. Just a heads up for other DIYers out there.
I know there are a lot of long married couples who wouldn't be able to work together that closely without the occasional melt down. Hats off to the two of them for keeping it together so well.
I guarantee they don't keep those bits in the video, but they still happen. People still get overwhelmed with a project this big. Especially after having to cut those joists twice

My toddler gets approximately 25 minutes of screen time per week. Usually on Wednesdays. It’s the perfect blend of low stimulation, fun music (baby loves bopping his head to it) and CONSTRUCTION for this little boy and his mama. Also, just genuinely really impressive work & morale from you both!
Add a liquid like broth or water to Jack’s food! It helps slow them down because they have to drink the water to get to the food and it helps it get “soggy” so he won’t choke!!
This is a great suggestion. It’s what I do for my dog. I also have two cats who also just scarf down their food so quickly that they throw up. I bought this weird looking slow feeder that has dimples in it. It’s solved the problem.
I had to do this for my Labs because they were constantly getting food stuck in their throats from trying to inhale their food. It worked like a charm!

It always makes my day when I watch it. P.S.: I do get a bit anxious when you guys go on roof edges without any safety harnesses or precautions. Please take care-you two are awesome!
That fun fact is fun, Concrete gets hot because the process of it curing, where water reacts with cement, is an exothermic reaction, meaning it releases heat as the chemical reaction occurs; this heat is often referred to as the "heat of hydration". It can get hot enough to give 3rd degree burns.
@@spamlessaccount No. The water does not stay in concrete. It mostlty evaporates as it cures. The concrete will basically reach an equlibrium with the moisture content of the surrounding environment.
@@miragaiamaia8966 Concrete almost always has sand in the mix. Basic formula for concrete is cement, aggregate, sand, and water. A common ratio of 1 part cement, 2 parts sand, and 3 parts aggregate is a good starting point for most projects. The size and variation of the aggregate will usually determine the concrete strength... as well as water content. A drier mix produces stronger concrete, but is harder to work with... such as when pumping, whereas too much water will weaken the mix. In cases where the strength is needed as well as workability, add mixtures may be added to make the concrete more fluid without adding more water. And yes... the paradox with concrete is once it's started to cure and water is evaportating, continued exposure to water is neccessary to continue the "hydration" of the cement particles. Especially in something like thin driveways and sidewalks where the water evaporates more quickly.
There's a saying about bad things coming in threes... So hopefully the bad luck is over, everyone is now safe, and they can move on with the build now 😅
We just poured concrete countertops and these woes are so relatable. More fun facts: concrete is an exothermic reaction (which you noted) that won't be stopped by getting wet! Your process was likely just slow because of the cold water you used and the weather. To make concrete set faster, you just use warm water. Wet curing concrete is a process of making it stronger by keeping it wet while it sets up so the structures that are forming within the mix can form more fully, so there is no need to keep it dry at all! You could even mist it down and add the tarp while it's still warm to increase strength! The only ways to really screw up concrete are to not mix it enough, make it unworkably thick, or have it set up before you can trowel it. You guys did so great!
14:42 I'm an amateur myself, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I was taught that when using a sliding chop saw, you NEVER slide it toward you while the blade is moving. You're increasing the risk of kickback like tenfold. Instead, before you turn on the blade slide it as far towards you as you need, then activate the blade, "chop" all the way through the thickness of the wood, then slide away from you, cutting the rest of the width of the wood. If you asked me (nearly) a year ago what my favorite show was, I’d have never believed it would be this YT series. I am so invested and cannot wait for the year to come. 🎉
I came for crochet and stayed lol. I’m watching from the Uk and So invested in your house 😂😂. I’m amazed at how well you are doing and much I’m enjoying it
Pugs are notorious for devouring food like they are starving. You could try a snuffle mat. It’s a fabric mat that you scatter the food throughout and he has to search for it, it will slow him way down 😊 It’s also a great enrichment activity
Some of my fosters have been really fast eaters as well. When the slow feed bowl doesn't work I actually get a treat ball and put all of their kibble in it so they have to roll it around. They'll only be able to get one or two kibbles at a time.
You could try soaking his food with water which will soften it so it’s less likely to make him coke and then you could go a step further and squish it into more of a paste and put it onto a lick mat instead of a bowl
Your cantilever roof turned out beautifully. I love all of the angles. It's amazing that you are finished with the roof. I have really enjoyed watching you tear the house down and rebuild it. You guys are really great. ❤😊

It seems the biggest problem with the DIY Cement Mixer is it doesn't have a metal trough extention that professional Mixer Trucks have to diect the flow of the concrete. Glad to hear you had a nice trip to NYC, bummer about the credit card!
I love your porch overhang. It was such hard work but worth the effort. I was wondering if you wanted to select certain shots, like the underside of the porch overhang, turn it into a black and white photo and frame to place on a wall of your completed home. Along with a few others. Happy New Year! I will be watching, and enjoying, your progress.
You two are pure joy, power, and love!❤ thank you for sharing, and for lifting all of us up with all of the light and life that you put into your home.😊
I just have to say, that your videos are such a comfort to watch!!! You are healing something in me, thank you so much for your videos and I wish you the best home to have!
Concrete doesn’t 'dry', per se, it chemically hardens. Pouring concrete in wet/humid conditions is not often a barrier, in fact depending on the mix, you may need to wet the concrete as it hardens. 'Curing' continues for a long time, as the chemical reaction continues. The heat is evidence of the chemical work underway. Next time, make sure you're cognizant of the wind direction when inhaling the dry mix. You don't need the moisture in your airways reacting internally. :-)
I came to say that it actually needs to be cured with water, because this is structural concrete and the water is important for the material strength chosen to be met
Oh man, your wonderful Nick, is a total keeper! Any boy who tells you, ‘you look pretty in that light,’ in front of thousands of viewers, is very special indeed. Wow! Best part of today’s episode! Happy New Year, you two!
You two work harder than most contractors. They would most likely not work in the rain. Seems like the videos just get started and then they're over. That's how entertaining they are. I always look forward to the next weeks video!! :)
My daughters pug has the same prob. They have to feed her in a highchair so that she is upright for the food to go down. They also have puzzle bowls that help them to eat slower.
That roof looks so cool, especially now that Nick explained how it supports weight. He is a very good teacher. I totally understand how that works now. You guys rock!
When I first started watching i had no idea what I'm getting into, but omg I enjoy this so much!!! Especially during finals or big test, your videos relive so much stress. Keep it up!!!❤
It's not enough to build your home from scratch, but to have your credit card stolen, be hit by a car, and have your doggie choke on his food-my gosh!! You two are an amazing dynamic duo!! Aww, Nicky said to Jen, "You look so beautiful in the sunlight." 🥰
0:31 I live in a small US town with a population of 2,000 people and I pull on anything that I use my credit or debit card with before I pay to make sure there isn't a skimmer on it.
For the dog- Maybe a treat ball, so the food drops from the ball, as he moves it around. It’s feeding about as slow as it gets. Also I put a bunch of water in my dogs food in the slow feeder, it made it so much better hard to eat fast when the food is like soup.
My husband works commercial construction, so we do our own home improvements, whenever he uses cement he just puts it in a wheel barrow and uses a hoe to mix it with a hose, and then takes a round shovel to shovel it wherever he wants to put it ☺️
You should be so proud of yourselves! Yes it has taken you longer than a contractor would but what an achievement! Merry Christmas to you both and a happy dry new year xx
Wow, congrats on the roof, it will all be worth the effort for that sleek design! I must just say Jenna, It's pretty special when a exhausted man actually stops and still notices how beautiful your are in that light! He's a keeper, and besides you make a very compatible and exceptionally humorous team that are fun to watch in .every single episode, no matter what your accomplishing!💕
If you need to make your own concrete again, you can use scrap plywood as a makeshift trough to direct it where you want it to go, like what Jenna was doing with her shovel, but bigger and no one has to just stand there holding it. We usually nail a couple pieces of scrap 2x in a rough v shape (without the point, obviously) to help direct things a little more. And then just sort of prop the high end of the plywood against the mixer’s supports so the wood is at an angle down towards the target. Same concept as what you rigged up on the roof to direct materials to the bin.
This is one of my favorite episodes. So much done, so much accomplished and I can finally see the vision of the entry to the house. Gorgeous and great work together. Well done!
A few methods to get your dog to eat extra slowly... 1. A Kong ball or something of the like. Basically a hallow ball with a hole in it that's only big enough for a couple kibbles to come through at once. The dog has to work for their meal and it takes much longer. There are also puzzle bowls that work similarly. 2. Throw a few kibbles on the floor and have your dog 'search' for the food. You can put more down when they find the first batch. Or, just throw it all down spread over a large space. This still takes longer for them to finish. You can also get creative and hide small handfuls around the house (or whatever space you're using) and have your dog search that way. This method is my dogs favorite! He loves it when I hide his food for him. 3. Training sessions with kibbles instead of treats. This is a great method for puppies who need basic training, but you can do it with any dog. You simply practice commands or learn new ones with your dog and use the kibbles as treats for the whole meal. This is another method my dog absolutely loves, I've been doing it with him since he was a puppy. It's fun and stimulating for them and it slows their eating significantly since you are controlling how much they get at once. The last two methods also are great for bonding ♡ I hope this helps!
Just across the border from yall down in Bellingham. You both have done such an amazing job between balancing whatever it is you guys do off camera away from this project, the filming, the editing, building… all of it. You both are an absolute inspiration. Truly amazing human beings and deserving of all the great things and times destined to come your way. Cheers and congrats
I had a dog that was like that, we fixed it by putting a rounded stone into the middle of the dog feed bowl. That way he will have to eat slower around the edges. This really does work 👍.
Goodness at the rain y'all have endured. Hope the sunshine comes out when you need it to get everything dried up soon. Everything looks so good. I believe the trip to NY was a very worthy respite for you both. The grind has been real, you needed to get away and recharge. In a few days we will bring in 2025. I am amazed every time I look back at all you have done leading up to this point.
You guys remind me of Nick and Nora from the Thin Man Series. Your sense of humor matches each other and you are such good workers together. Jenna now probably has better muscles and core strength than ever before. She can do EVERYTHING. And i love, love, love NICK’S FUN FACT!!!! Thank you for bringing it back.
Poor Jack. Maybe I'm late, but my recommendation is in a plastic bottle you make some holes all around and put the food inside and close. This way Jack has to roll the bottle for the food to come out, and there for eating more slow. I had a rescued puppy and he also eat super fast. I hope Jack and Benson are doing fine and being so super happy puppy's ❤ I love your videos and you house is so beautiful! Keep building your house with love ❤️🎉 A lot of hugs from Bariloche, Argentina
I’m sure someone has already said this but hydrate his kibble with water or pet safe bone broth. Way less likely to choke, slower to eat, and more hydration with a diet of dry kibble is better for pups in general too.
every week i watch your videos on my drive home from work and i gotta say im so proud and happy for you guys on this house! i've been following your journey since i found yall on week 3 on instagram and your guys' relationship is so sweet and tender throughout this whole process. much love 💕 can't wait for what's to come!
I applaud you 2 for your discipline to do everything right - that's awesome you will a fantastic place when you are done - would love to volunteer but I lietrally live on the other side of Canada in Nova Scotia - and I have to finish my attic reno before my wife kills me :) Keep it up !!
Kong makes a slow feeder ball called the Kong wobbler. Dogs nose it around on the floor and kibbles fall out of a hole 1-3 at a time. It works really well for our fast eater
This toy was a godsend for us!! We used it to distract our dog with separation anxiety. We put treats in it before we left. She played with it while we left. When she was done we were already gone. She wasn’t sitting in the anxiety. We used it to feed her as well so she didn’t associate it with us leaving.
They also make inserts for dog bowls that look like a maze, the food fits into the “tunnels” and the dog has to get the kibble out of the maze. It works really well.
I admire your dedication and determination. It takes focus and grit to work through setbacks and challenges - which you have had your share. Oh man, your wonderful Nick, is a total keeper! Any boy who tells you, ‘you look pretty in that light,’ in front of thousands of viewers, is very special indeed. Wow! Best part of today’s episode! Happy New Year, you two!
I absolutely love how you two communicate 😍 so gentle and lovely to each other
I love how the two of you work so well together. Makes my heart warm.
Every time you post, it’s amazing. Keep it up!
Internet scammer alert! Please don't click the like, just because you "like" her cleavage.
I LOVE the editing part where you cut from the multi-step plan to Nick actually doing it during the explanation. SO good. 🎉🎉🎉
missed you guys last week, hope you had a nice time off and a great christmas!!
Always enjoy watching Jenna and Nick rebuilding a house with a view
You two work harder than most contractors. They would most likely not work in the rain. Seems like the videos just get started and then they're over. That's how entertaining they are. I always look forward to the next weeks video!! :)
So happy for you guys, and proud of you! Literally crying at the end when Nick told you how Beautiful you were!
You two are troopers! 👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️💫👍👍
HOW DARE UA-cam HIDE THIS FROM ME FOR 2 WHOLE MINUTES
For the dog- Maybe a treat ball, so the food drops from the ball, as he moves it around. It’s feeding about as slow as it gets. Also I put a bunch of water in my dogs food in the slow feeder, it made it so much better hard to eat fast when the food is like soup.
Definitely should have watched that UA-cam video on the concrete mixer 😁

Wow this home is COMING TOGETHER 😍😍
Great job Jenna and Nicky! 🧰🔨🪚🔩🪜
I love seeing you two building your dreamhouse, we can literally feel the love in the air
What an accomplishment. You guys are awesome. Not even very many professional contractors could have done any better. Wonderful. .
My husband works commercial construction, so we do our own home improvements, whenever he uses cement he just puts it in a wheel barrow and uses a hoe to mix it with a hose, and then takes a round shovel to shovel it wherever he wants to put it ☺️
just what i was about to say 🙌👏
"Cement" is only part of "concrete". It's glue that holds the aggregate and sand together. Calling concrete cement, is like calling cake batter eggs.
That's how my dad does it!
@@douglascaskey7302 my husband would call it concrete, I’m just the wife lol
You should be so proud of yourselves! Yes it has taken you longer than a contractor would but what an achievement! Merry Christmas to you both and a happy dry new year xx
I ran it back several times to listen to the multi-tool play harmony to the music, ha ha ha. Well done again this week! Congratulations on your roof!!
It's looking wonderful! My favorite videos of the week are your updates. ❤️
For fast eaters, puzzle bowls help a lot.
They have to slow down to lick the food from around the corners of the maze of the bowl.
I was about to ask what happened to the slide they used during roof removal. I think it went in the bin, though. It had a name.
RIP Sammy the Slide and Sammy 2.0
We usually pour it into a wheel barrow and shovel it in the hole, more manual labour but higher accuracy
Loved this episode. It felt like a real accomplishment. 🎉
This is one of my favorite episodes. So much done, so much accomplished and I can finally see the vision of the entry to the house. Gorgeous and great work together. Well done!
Jenna Everytime you posted a new video it's put a huge smile on my face😀😀😀 May God Bless You Always Always sending you lots of love to you
I look forward to every Wednesday now knowing I get to watch you two build your home. It’s going to be beautiful.
I enjoy watching you two work together on your home together ❤
I had a dog that was like that, we fixed it by putting a rounded stone into the middle of the dog feed bowl. That way he will have to eat slower around the edges. This really does work 👍.
Sounds like a good way to get a stone in a dogs stomach
Love seeing the progress, and to be finished with the roof rafter construction is a milestone. Cheers from the Midwest USA.
The sun setting behind you after the rain is so pretty 😍
I hope Jack and Benson are doing fine and being so super happy puppy's ❤
I love your videos and you house is so beautiful! Keep building your house with love ❤️🎉
A lot of hugs from Bariloche, Argentina
I’m sure someone has already said this but hydrate his kibble with water or pet safe bone broth. Way less likely to choke, slower to eat, and more hydration with a diet of dry kibble is better for pups in general too.
every week i watch your videos on my drive home from work and i gotta say im so proud and happy for you guys on this house! i've been following your journey since i found yall on week 3 on instagram and your guys' relationship is so sweet and tender throughout this whole process. much love 💕 can't wait for what's to come!
I applaud you 2 for your discipline to do everything right - that's awesome you will a fantastic place when you are done - would love to volunteer but I lietrally live on the other side of Canada in Nova Scotia - and I have to finish my attic reno before my wife kills me :)
Keep it up !!
It's so nice to see the roof basics complete! Congratulations 👏
You two are the cutest! So happy I get to have a cup of tea and enjoy this video to start my day. Hope your week improves. ❤️
You two are so fun to watch!! Your shear determination is inspiring. All the best for you guys! The fireplace is amazing
We used something similar, a treat ball. Downside is you end up with kibble caltrops all over the house if they miss some.
I admire your dedication and determination. It takes focus and grit to work through setbacks and challenges - which you have had your share. You two work well together and you should both be proud of what you have accomplished. It’s great that you”ll have these video to look back on and appreciate even more the scope of this project. Thank you for sharing with us. I wish continued success and progress.
take good photos of the work you just finished and display them inside your foyer once you finish the home
with your intense attention to detail it is always SO thoroughly enjoyable watching all the pieces come together.! Love being here each week! salutations from Australia!!
Holy Moly!!! WELL DONE !!! The roof is a triumph !!!
You should be so proud of yourselves..Congratulations!
Typically on DIY videos I have seen people dump from the mixer into a wheelbarrow and then use that and/or buckets to get it to where it needs to go.
Your resilience is a wonder to behold!!! I hope it's smooth sailing from here!
Sometime, it would be fun to have a tour through the house pointing out any original elements that are left.
those last few shots with the setting sun are so pretty. also congrats!
17:30 the most Canadian I’ve ever heard you be 😂😂 Timmy’s!!!! 🎉🎉
tImMaY!
😂
I was just about to say that.
