Nearly, first two lines need work.... 'Sickness is my teacher, It broke my smile...'. Online translators for welsh aren't quite there yet. Bonafide welshie here 😉
I’m another metal head who’s fallen down the Ren rabbithole, It weirded me out at first but now I’m just running with it, he is pure talent and I can’t get enough. Sick Boi cd hasn’t come out of my car since it arrived. This song is 👌👌👌
Subscribing for more Ren :) This song is one of his best, in my opinion. And I know it's Ren's own favourite on this album. I've been a pure metalhead until now.. I love progressive metal, mainly because how the song structure and flow changes throughout each song, and how the vocalists often change their styles. Ren is like progressive rap (if that's even a thing). Very unpredictable with wonderful flow switches. Another song of Ren's with amazing song structure is Ren and Sam Tompkins "Blind Eyed (live M.C sessions)" - that's my recommendation to check out.
This is one of my favorite Ren tracks and, as the first, introduces the Sick Boi album perfectly. Parallel to what you were saying, the whole album is about the myriad ways one can be "sick." Sometimes it's personal - physical, mental, spiritual, s@xual - and at others it's about human society. You don't have to react to it, but if you evervhave time, Ren posted a video (not a song) titled "Eden" that gives you a really good idea of his personal/spiritual philosophy. One of the aspects I relate to in Ren's work is his insight developed from being on the edge of death for so many years at a young age. A thoughtful perspective- as is yours. Thank you for giving the song some analysis.
What makes Ren a little more special than many musicians is the fact that he does all by himself. Writing the music, writing the lyrics, playing the instruments, singing, mixing and producing the music. This gives him more creative freedom and his mind uses this freedom to create truly unique style. Impressive. And he is mostly self taught which may be the reason for him to be so unusual. A true artist with a lot of suffering.
Ren is so unique that he is his own style. I found his music 18 months ago, I haven't stopped being amazed . Every time you hear a song, chances are the next, will be different. Ren always has alot to say in his songs, great lyricist. I think you are going to enjoy the ride.
You get it. You get Ren. If you watch his response to hitting one million followers you’ll see it reflects who he is as a person and artist. Intelligent, like you. I think you’ll like him.
This is the first song on his album "sick boi". Its a helluva way to start off an album eh?😂 rens lyric videos are also next level, big up to LyricVids who make these for him 💜💜
I really enjoyed your analysis of this track by Ren. It was very thoughtful and intelligent. I think if you like Seven Sins, you would probably like several of the other songs on his "Sick Boi" album. Wicked Ways Lost All Faith Masochist and Money Game part 3 (this is the last song of a "Money Game" trilogy, and just won an international film festival award for best music video) I would also suggest The Tale Of Jenny and Screech (This is also a trilogy, and it should be watched all together to follow the story. There is a video with all 3 tales together called The Tale of Jenny and Screech full version). Looking forward to seeing more. Edited to add: If you're interested in Ren's story, he has just dropped a series of chapters, read by him, that tell the story of his illness. He's been releasing one per day on his "renmakesstuff" channel. The last one will be tomorrow, followed by the release of his new song "Troubles." Ren's story is honest, harrowing, heartbreaking, and inspiring all at the same time. I highly recommend it to better understand his music.
I find it odd that I love this guys music as much as I do. I'm a huge fan of proto-metal (Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath) and there's very little in his catalogue that comes close to touching those styles. I think in addition to the great lyrics and high level musicianship it's his diversity that really does it for me. He does multiple genres all at a high level. Great reaction.
Ya gotta do his Castles made of Sand and Loco at least! Or better yet... dig into his older stuff! Hold On, Fire, Jessica, Ocean, What kinda woman is this, Praise You, Englishman in New York, etc... Hes been Banging out Bangers for a long time! Another Must Do... is him and his band The Big Push doing "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" ... that version! Itll blow your mind!!!
All my life been a metalhead, Hardcore Punk girl (now woman) and living in South FL some southern rap openened my mind and then Ren came... My mind is open 🤯
ren's music influences include more 'broken beats' so drum and bass, jungle and electronic styles, and he incorporates some of those elements into his music sometimes like this track, there is also 'down on the beat' which is another rap track, but unconventionally over an EDM type beat, im sure there are others as well others will list some im sure.... a cool reaction (new sub here) is cool you like this one and appreciate the creativity of it, as there is like 5 beat/flow changes in it and still somehow it holds together just great! how the hell did that happen hahaha
I think you're spot on with most of your analysis however the pain that Ren is talking about was the insidious physical pain he suffered for 8 years. His mental illness was mostly born from that. Ren is dropping a new one tomorrow called Troubles. It's inspired by the song "Trouble so Hard" which holds a lot of meaning to him. For his vocal diversity try some of his newer stuff. Back on 74/Message in a Bottlle retake or Fres Again Mashup . Both live performances.
if you want to hear Ren with some of the "harsh vocals" you were talking about, you might want to check out one of Ren's earliest tracks from 8 years ago, it's called "Crutch". It begins as a soft hunting piano ballad and a little more than half way through it shifts into almost a metal inspired track with heavy 🎸as well. It might just be my ears, but I find the sound of that track slightly reminiscent of Sleep Token. I'm subbed for your Ren journey now because you're in for a real treat, you haven't even scratched the surface of how diverse Ren truly is.🤯
Every track on this album is its own sound and vibe. Rens is a true artist with his music. He has many styles, and this song was a perfect intro track in setting the tone of the album.
Fantastic reaction! Glad you are liking his style. Seven sins is my favorite track on the album followed by Sick Boi part two and wicked ways I think you would probably like those in the same vein. 🙏🏼
Glad you really liked this - it’s one of my favourites - so clever and strangely catchy. Are you watching his Chapter readings? Really recommend that you do. Thank you for helping to spread the word. Subbed.
You really nailed and connected with Ren the person and the message in this one. As you say Ren is so good at expressing the specific and the general in a single song. It is always this is about me but it is also about all of us and hopes that we can recognise tbe flaws in our personal and sociatal value systems and do or be better so humans and our home can have a future.
I’m impressed by your introspection and dissection of this song. It is pure genius. REN is an immensely talented musician and lyricist. Every song is incredible and vastly different than the last. You have an innate ability to translate and express insight onto what the lyrics say. Keep up the great work and continue down this Ren rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed. His catalog is pretty large and the quality is of equally high caliber as this song.
I appreciate that you can appreciate someone's talent even if isn't your jam. I have a lot of artists that I mad respect and won't turn off their tune if it comes on, but don't necessarily go out of my way to listen to except for a few select tracks, and others that I love so much of their stuff I'll even sit through the meh (to me) tracks. What I dig about Ren, and artists like him, is that he is a genre bender. Everyone can find something they like while still respecting the message/talent of the stuff that is meh to them. Great react and I've been enjoying your channel and insights. :)
Lost all faith has a lot of parallels with Seven Sins. Based on your request for something similar to Seven SinsI would go there. Some of my fellow Renegades have suggested songs here in the comments that are almost polar opposite to Seven Sins💕👍🦇
Really enjoyed your perceptions, particularly surviving as a broken person in a broken world created by a suppisedly unbroken god, sounds like a metal song concept, also the music being an island of its own. Can really relate abd appreciate the way you express your ideas.
Great reaction geeza, love your insightful and thought provoking words. Really enjoyed your authenticity and honesty, your voice has a lovely tone! Subbed ❤
First timewhen I saw hi ren ...I watched it 19 times trying to figure out how I felt about it....then I did jenny and screech and was still confused ...then saw chaulk outlines and then was into it went back did jenny and screech again and paid attention and then I clicked in to him as a artist and started looking for other things he did
Ren has so many songs in different styles, it's called Ren's music ❤ I recommend different style but needs to be seen "Jenny and Screech tale" Full Version 😀
Seven Sins stands alone. You will need a different length and type of rope - new knots for the next ascent - or voyage. I suggest the full investment. Do the Jenny and Screech trilogy. That or shift gears to Ren’s old band, The Big Push. Alternately you could climb into the tomb and react to How To Be Me.
I must say, I love reaction of ren where the person isn't to sure. There you get a purely unbiased opinion and seing somebody gradually gravitate to him is really special. He's a special soul and I think youll find many of his songs youll love. Ren. Fred again mashup. Or for Joe, both are live and I feel if you can't gravitate to him even more through them 2. I'm going to take a pun and say it's impossible 🤣 great reaction love from 🇬🇧

Ren is one of a kind, try react to Down on the beat, or the hunger next, both very impressive songs, the hunger is short but show some rap skill for real, Down on the beat, got a well great beat,, The line god had a noose on hes neck, walked to the edge and jumped, is like you pray to god every day, but things dont get better, so you loose fait a bit, but then Ren get though it later..
glad i found your channel! the commentary was great. i think you'd really like "the tale of jenny and screech," (fantastic storytelling; about a 13 min video) "crucify your culture," "masochist," and the "money game" trilogy
❤ Ren is unlike any rapper out there. He is not just a rapper though - he is his own genre. Just a pure Artist. You need to check out his band The Big Push. They have rock covers and originals. Check out War Pigs (red suspenders on pic)
New sub. I really enjoy your thoughts and insights on Ren's music and other artists that I've seen you have reactions to as well.! Honestly, I haven't found any music from Ren that I can say is bad!! There are a few that aren't my cup of tea but they are still great songs. 💙💙💙🔥🔥🔥
That was some profound, maybe obvious, but I sure as shit never thought about music being derivative and when it sounds great but you can't tell what it reminds you of then it's next level, shit. You've got a beautiful way with words haha and mine are salad right now. Great reaction, thanks!
My absolute favorite on the Sick Boi album. My suggestion is Hold on, Heretic, Ready for you, Earned it/Man’s world with Sam Tompkins. There are so many especially the ones on The Freckled angels and Demo tapes.
Ren doesn't do "Normal Rap, Normal Bars"!!! He is so unique in his lyrics And music... he made me, 56 yo who hated Rap my whole life... enjoy it! Well... his at least! Still don't like mumble Rap, or the drugs, killing cops, hoes etc!!!
Great reaction and analysis! For his harder core stuff, try MASOCHIST, WICKED WAYS, and if you want to hear him sing like Marilyn Manson, try CRUTCH (hold on during this one, it's coming.)
Came here for Ren. But primarily listen to metal. I subbed and looked through your lists. I seem to see a lack of pain of salvation. I content one of the greatest and most influential bands of our time. I would recommend checking them out. And they are very eclectic. I would recommend beyond the pale, panther, in the passing light of day, sisters. Etc. check them out please.
R u sure u r not a Philisopher!? U r amazing in your analysis of the human condition. U should watch his Eden peaice. Not a song so much, but a great take of what u just said!!!!!
Great reaction, nice metal comparison. Not sure wether its the beats or the vocal in particular. Maybe its the production, Ren earlier music only had him producing it and it is great considering that. Lost All Faith is similar on this album, a little more hooky but I prefer castles made of sand. Musically, man I am lost, he does such great remakes as well as originals. I get a feeling his next stuff dropping today may be yet better. Chalk Outlines or how to be me (both live versions) with Chinchilla are probably my favourites but are soft duets. He did one called Hold on 9 years ago that stands out... a wee country beat on it... he has no honour with genres.
Bro ya Gotta make a Ren pkaylist! Youve Barely experienced Ren!!! He has more layers than an onion, more Bars than a prison! I can honestly Garantee youll be Very impressed if ya do more! As soon as you think ya have him figured out... he'll show you in the next song... you Havent! At all! Lol
Translation of the beginning:
sickness are my teachers
my smile broke
my bones feel old
here lies the body of Ren
Thank you!

This song is Ren's most autobiographical. It's what he went through at the peak of his illness.
ren's music influences include more 'broken beats' so drum and bass, jungle and electronic styles, and he incorporates some of those elements into his music sometimes like this track, there is also 'down on the beat' which is another rap track, but unconventionally over an EDM type beat, im sure there are others as well others will list some im sure....

i think you'd really like "the tale of jenny and screech," (fantastic storytelling; about a 13 min video) "crucify your culture," "masochist," and the "money game" trilogy
I love your honesty in that you aren't sure how you feel about Ren! Now I'm gonna watch your reaction!
Interesting review ❤
❤ Ren is unlike any rapper out there. He is not just a rapper though - he is his own genre. Just a pure Artist.
You need to check out his band The Big Push. They have rock covers and originals. Check out War Pigs (red suspenders on pic)
I recommend wicked ways
Oh watch Hunger and illest of our time!!
I’ll it’s of our time is one of my favourites. It’s like heavy metal rap. 😂
❤❤REN❤❤
Ren doesn't do "Normal Rap, Normal Bars"!!! He is so unique in his lyrics And music... he made me, 56 yo who hated Rap my whole life... enjoy it! Well... his at least!
Still don't like mumble Rap, or the drugs, killing cops, hoes etc!!!
i think you will like "lost all faith"
Check out Ocean with Eden Nash, Insomnia, Depression, Dear God, Hold On. Earlier songs you may enjoy.
Great reaction and analysis! For his harder core stuff, try MASOCHIST, WICKED WAYS, and if you want to hear him sing like Marilyn Manson, try CRUTCH (hold on during this one, it's coming.)
Enjoyed your reaction - liked/subscribed
I think you need to listen to something pretty recent: Back on 74/Message in a Bottle retake
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Reaction My G 😎❤️💛💚🖤✊🏿🇯🇲🏴
I really like this reaction! I’m subbing. I want to see what you do with Ren. 😉❤️🔥✌️
Cymru am byth 🏴 ❤
R u sure u r not a Philisopher!? U r amazing in your analysis of the human condition. U should watch his Eden peaice. Not a song so much, but a great take of what u just said!!!!!
Hey thanks for even taking the time to listen to my ramblings, I appreciate it so much!
Hey, I feel ya. Live n Charleston, SC as a Philosopher. The Bible belt. U can imagine the rest! Lol
If you rewind a little, after pausing, you won't miss anything. :)
❤❤❤
Check him out w his band The Big Push covering War Pigs...I Shot the Sheriff/ Road to Zion / hip hop
this
Ren is a such a genre bender that you can't pin point him as an artist. He is is own Genre . Rens band The BIg Push did a cover of War Pigs !
🔥🔥🔥
I think the bit about God relates to the potential death of REN’s belief in God at that time …
Wait till you hear his rock
Just lal. What!?😂
Great reaction, nice metal comparison.
It's not a song. These have become simply and uniquely, a REN.
Ren is him
I think you should check out crucify your culture by ren but honestly everything he does is done well.
go for Ren - Eden
You should react to Crown of the Worm by Psyclon Nine
Its Welsh but that's it
U need to do. Ren & big push. His band. What kind of woman is this. For the rock side of him
Check out Ren ready for you if you liked seven sins you'll appreciate it
Bro ya Gotta make a Ren pkaylist! Youve Barely experienced Ren!!!
He has more layers than an onion, more Bars than a prison!
I can honestly Garantee youll be Very impressed if ya do more!
As soon as you think ya have him figured out... he'll show you in the next song... you Havent! At all! Lol
