There seems to be a lot of confusion in the comments as to what onomatopoeia is. People seem to be confusing it for a double entendre. Onomatopoeia is when the word, when spoken, actually sounds like the thing it's describing. The word 'buzz', for example, actually sounds like a buzzing noise when you say it. The word 'whoosh' sounds like a whooshing noise when you say it. I hope this helps 😁❤️
I started a big thread on the REN's Rabbit Hole Fans group on Facebook to figure out the "onomatopoeia" bit. None of us have a solid answer. I added a summary of the best possibilities on the "Seven Sins" Genius Lyrics, to which I've heavily contributed.
The comment section on the FB thread had similar issues as the comments about onomatopoeia here.
My take from the use of the word was what Sick Boi implies, not what he says. It implies cough, wheeze, sigh, etc. Maybe I'm reaching though, idk.
Not sure if you’ve got the onomatopoeia reference yet but I saw somewhere else that forensic is ‘for Ren sick’ and onomatopoeia is ‘on a mat I pee ah’ then next line is fever …. Just connecting the dots of what illness can do.

@@TheCharlieSmithChannel sorry, I don’t comment on many videos. Just thought I’d pass over some observations I’ve picked up over many reactions. I’ve learnt new things for the same songs on different reactions. I’m always amazed, the wordplay is phenomenal.
'Onomatopoeia'. He emphasizes the 'ahh!' as a cry of pain, is my understanding of it. 👍
I just wanted to add that not only should people appreciate that they haven’t suffered through those things. But people who have suffered through those things he makes them feel like they’re not alone, which is miraculous.
He said in his (really good) interview with Zack Sang that he wanted this song to create an empathy window - your reaction shows he succeeded! 😁👍
That scheme you liked that referenced Clapton, Hendrix and Kendrick was finished brilliantly! It ends on the word 'forensic', rhyming with Kendrick. Take the syllables of 'forensic' and you have "for Ren's sick". Genius! :)

The Uruk-hai are crossbreeds between Orcs and Goblin-men. I'm almost 60, and I've had health issues since I was a young teen. I've been exactly where this song takes you many times. Times of chronic, debilitating pain that lasted for months or years. Trapped in a bed will twist your mind. My dad said the most profound thing that helped me so many times. He said, "Mans greatest tool and his worse enemy is his imagination. You can create worlds of wonder and wolds of darkness."
This is one of the best songs I have ever heard. The depth to the lyricism is masterful.

I took "onomatopoeia" as referring to the sounds he makes immediately afterwards: "ah ah ah..." which is usually a sound that people make when suddenly in pain. Some say "ah" is an interjection, but I think it can easily be an onomatopoeia.
I thought it is because sick is a 'tinny' work that has the edge of the pain, like 'slice' is onomatopeic because the ssss is a cutting sound. So the 'ick' is as harsh. And sick boi sounds like retching or breathing in pain. Sharp in breath and sigh of pain. - Or simply sick and tick.
Hmmm that's not actually onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is very simply a word that imitates the thing it describes. Not that it has characteristics that could be described as being LIKE the thing. You've needed to catagorise it as 'tinny' and 'harsh' in order to make a tenuous link. Onomatopoeia is much more simple than that. Slice isn't onomatopoeia either and you don't hear 'slice' when you cut something. It's too much of a stretch
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel I couldn't resist the Monty Python tinny description, but you are right, it detracts from the actual definition. And the tick also doesn't work. I was distracted. Slice was the first example I learnt as onomatopoeic, and I still think of it every time I sharpen a knife or hear one slicing something hard, for example. Sick boy still sounds to me like the harsh breathing that I do when the pain gets bad.

The way I understood it was "sick boi" is an onomatopoeia for the sound of zipping up the body bags referenced just before.

“Oh my GOD” was exactly my reaction on first listen. Such a powerhouse of a song reflecting personal pain but seeing the world’s pain as a coda, shifting emphasis away from introspection giving way to anger. I see it as a call to arms.
I have Tourette syndrome which for me is not debilitating but it’s considered a disability, depending on the severity of it). I’m a composer and when I’m feeling down or ill, I have zero motivation to create. So kudos to Ren for making this song about his disability (Lime's isn’t a disability per se, it’s a disease that affects your life forever - which makes it a disability in my mind)!
Great reaction. One part that Im yet to see any reactor catch is the reference of Sinnerman which is the the title of a famous Nina Simone song. Continues the previous artist scheme, and we know that ren is a fan of nina simone from his other performances of her songs.
And then the other part that i also missed initially too, is the word forensic at the end of of one of his early verses. Lots of other comments across reactions about it being a play on " for-ren's-sick."

Directly after the onomatopoeia line, the background "ugh", "ugh", "ugh" vocals come in. My interpretation is that is the sound a sick boy makes. I could be wrong of course but, my interpretation of the content.

Keep in mind also that "sick" in the UK can also be the act of throwing up. And in that sense, the word "sick" sounds like barfing.

This is my favourite song off Sick Boi. The lyricism in this one is so amazing. Ren is absolutely brilliant. One of my favourites is Forensic (For Ren Sick). Really enjoyed your reaction! I don't know that I fully understand the Onomatopoeia either ❤❤
This us the day he fell into psychosis at 25, still didn't have a diagnosis. 6 years into his disease and another treatment failed and left him in agony.

i fully can relate with tis song im in pain 24hours every day get 2 hours sleep if im lucky ,had motorbike crash at 19yrs old broke most of my body was in a coma for 6mnths,then told i might not walk again,got through that with loads of pain then at 42 got stenosis and spine neves getting crushed ,that stuck my in a wheelchair ,followed by fluid on lungs heart attack and sepsis ,had op on cervical spine c1 to c5 to get me to walk slow and more pain worked to 75percent ,then got bloodclots in my leg and septic shock they took my leg and heart failure again and end stage kidney failure to top it off ,stuck in a wheelchair loads of pain and dialysis 3 times a week all great fun ,but some folks are worse off ,love the reaction rens music allways its home

Sick boi is defo a double entendre. I struggled with understanding the onomatopoeia line but i think its the literal meaning of his illness is described in this song using comparisons and insight. Hes such a clever man painting it so we can almost see through his eyes. Story telling genius. Subbed, loved your reaction 😊
Onamatopiea; perhaps it's sick (illness) and sic (as is written)? Ren can layer so many meanings within one line, so I guess we'll have to interpret for ourselves.

the best meaning for the onomatopoeia line i can think of is that ‘sick boy’ has that mix of sibilance and plosive sound. the ‘s’ is heavily hissed, like spite or pain, and the ‘ck’ and ‘b’ sounds are harsh. the cycle of spite and sudden pain are very reminiscent of what it feels like to have a chronic illness. the way he says it too, like he’s hissing in pain - very clever.
Great pick up on the LotR reference, he’s a big fan of those and loops them into a lot of songs.
Zip is an onomatopoeia ( a word that sounds like what it is).

There are excitatory and inhibitory systems in the brain, and it seems that clinical depression is linked to an overactivity of the inhibitory systems, whereas anxiety is an overactivity of the excitatory systems. That means that many psychedelic compounds could be useful in treating depression because one of the main effects of psilocybin for example is the decrease in activity of the inhibitory systems, allowing for crosstalk between regions of the brain.

The onomatopoeia line has kept me confused since it came out on the album. My thought is maybe as after he says it he adds sound effects with his voice but not sure otherwise.

The words sick boi are right before that. I think he might be saying that sick boi is an onomatopoeia for Ren. I could be totally wrong but that’s what hit me when I was listening to you.
I see what you're getting at but that's not onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is when the word, as a sound when said, sounds like the thing it's describing. Such a buzz. The word buzz sounds like a buzzing sound when you say it. The word whoosh, when said, sounds like a whooshing sound.

I saw Onomatopoeia as not only describing him, but the label being all he was. Ren was gone and sick boy was the “sound” that replaced him. Like the word buzz capturing vibration, Sick Boi captures his new identity. (By its singularity. He is drilled down to being just a sick boi.)

To me he has taken some creative license with onomatopoeia. Rather than a single word sounding like what it is/means, it is the song itself, as a whole, that is the sound of his pain, his despair, his rage. The song is what suffering sounds like.

This song really is heartbreaking but I feel it was very cathartic for him to write it and release it. Its also a helluva way to start out an album 😂 it's amazing 💜💜 i wanted to add on, in his million subscribers defininf success video he mentions his sickness was so bad he couldnt "participate in life". So that about sums it all up😊
There's lots of different types of ticks. I THINK you can only get Lyme's Disease from DEER ticks.
I'm sure it's deeper than this, cuz Ren, but I like to think the onomatopoeia line was him wanting to put one in that point of the bar but couldn't come up with one so he just used the thing he wanted to come up with, if that makes sense. 😅

Poor man, lymes disease can be very debilitating. Very intense words but the arrangement is very punchy, very defiant, very `not going to give in to this". . Always love your reactions, often food for personal thought. Lyme disease should be a standard part of differential diagnosis for people with chronic pain and/or mental health symptoms in Europe and the Americas. We almost lost Ren. He was tortured for years. How many have we lost already?

- I think it’s the way he pronounced onomatopoeia- with an ahhhh at the end. The ahhhh is the sound you make when you visit a doctor and the look in your mouth…. Being at the doctor therefore implies you are sick. 🤔🤷♂️… maybe grasping straws but that came to my mind.

Sick Boi…onomatopoeia likely suggests he is the sound of a very sick person. The name of sick boi describes his music and is inseparable from it. That is what I’ve decided it means….

Ticks convey a number of illnesses to humans. Having been bitten by a tick does not mean you will contract any of them though. Lyme disease is one of them, though others are more common. It is not known if ticks are the only way to spread lime disease to humans at the moment, but it is the only proven path. Other ways, other bugs, mosquitoes, all might also be a source in theory, yet none of those paths are known for certain.

In the rap idiom the word, " sick" is used as a description for great , as in "thats sick " meaning good . Ren is both a sick rapper and a sick person ,thus onamatopiea. Its the same onamatopiea as in Illest Of Our Time . Playing off the slang against the dictionary meaning .
