Thank you so much! I've been searching for a tutorial for this for such a long time! I don't think it's out of fashion, it's so simple and elegant that is timeless. Thanks again!
I learned this cut in Beauty School and loved doing it but you've made it much simpler. I remember over-directing the hair in the wedge part so the hair would naturally flow to the back. Enjoyed this.
Had a client pull this haircut out from her long ago photo album and I honestly had no idea ...thanks to this video I will be much more confident next time! Thank you!
Thank you so much ! I'm really looking forward to see more short classic haircut styles videos especially back to 80s and 90s , because it's rare to find any tutorial , thanks again :)
Yes you’re absolutely right it is rare to find tutorials from that era they just want a thing then, I will do my best to bring you as many as I can 😁👍🏻
Thank you so much I had this cut through the '80s and 90's. I've been trying to get this cut at salons for 0ver 10years butt no one can do it. I have sent this link to a hairdresser and hopefully, I can get my classic gorgeous cut again.
thank you for ur simple quick version of lady diana's do. you are a help to me I've studies sasson style in l.a. London n nj. usa .not enough works yet helped for a long time now 2023 looking into more for focus better detail works n fulfilling the whole gamut of ABC n freehand with 2023 effects n style. thank u again..n your one of my star go to's
Ironically this haircut is making a comeback due in part I believe to The Crown miniseries. I've been looking for a shorter cut that isnt too short and was thinking about the Diana cut. Thanks for your tutorial.
I’ve been wanting to know how to do this for so long! And you have answered so many questions that I wanted to know! Thank you! Please keep making more tutorials x
Love this haircut James. I wanted to thank you for all you do to help the new guys who are just learning. Thank you very much!! May God Bless you sir!! Jeff S.
I agree with Melisa... I subscribed within seconds! I had this haircut at one point in my life. I was taught this at the Sassoon school in Santa Monica! Beautifully executed and explained! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
James I think this is more All time favourite haircut to both cut and watch being cut. As always your explanations are so simple and easy to understand Please don’t change!!! Bravo you 👏👏👏👏👏
@@TheLifeOfHair I am a freelancer live in Amman Jordan and we don't have schools here on the level of your education so it's been a tremendous prevliage for me to find your channel 🤗🤗
I am a huge fan of the classics once you understand the classics the rest is easy I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos Tracy thank you for watching thank you for commenting.
I’ve been watching some documentaries of her and it looks like it was the base shape you made, but even more layered over the top, right? It even looks like when they were layering they didn’t over direct the area in front of the ears back to keep it a bit longer. It all looks connected and feathery. I’ve been using this as a basis for all my round grad haircuts, varying elevation, and it makes so much sense to me, and i wiz thru haircuts much quicker now! Thank you so much!
Wonderful SJ glad you are enjoying using graduation in this Amana from the standpoint of Lady Diana so I would say that there is many variations on the same theme over the years summer or layered summer more weighty through the sides and the top like when she became Engaged to Charles but in a nutshell they are all variations on the same thing
Can I ask you a question please James how did you find your confidence please something which I struggle with sometimes thank you love your videos fantastic content x
Hi Mandi, well the best advice I can give you is find some time in your week To do some dedicated practice I love practising I’ve cut many hundreds of mannequin heads over the years and real-life models/clients but practising when you’re working is very difficult so finding the time to practice something very specific is very important the more I practised the more confident I became. 😁✌🏻
@@TheLifeOfHair thank you so much I appreciate the reply ! I have learnt so much from you I start my new job on Tuesday, I'm excited and I'm going to keep practicing thanks again !
Thanks so much for this vid! Like you said it’s a foundational shape, and I’ve found all I need to do to modernize it is do some different things to the top like disconnect the fringe, layer it, etc. Will you do a video of round graduation (like a bowl) with some modern tweaks like you did in the pixie video?
Ah thank I am so pleased you have found my videos interesting, yes absolutely there are some great tweets to ad to the bowl that is a great idea look out for a video all about that 😁👍🏻
I'd like to have the same haircut but I have a small and narrow forehead so fringes don't suit me... and worse I can't stand hair falling on my face... so the same cowlick and ponytail for ages(
What’s your secret on having both sides of head even? Mainly the length? I always struggle with keeping the same, and on short hairstyles, left side of the head (layers) always end up being shorter (I’m right handed and always start on left size, then move on to right)
Getting both sides to balance can be very tricky for me to get both sides to balance the same is that I just have a rough gauge in my head as to exactly how much hair I’ll hold out away from the head I normally start on the right hand side when I’m cutting this type of shape and then I try and roughly cut exactly the same on the opposite side I do always obviously air on the side of caution with the opposite side to the side that I can reduce the length down Necessary I know that doesn’t give you any comprehensive tips or tricks to exactly how I get the same length and both sides but that’s how I did the process
Requested this cut at the Beverly Hills Sassoon salon. Not only didn't get this cut but the clueless creative director cut my hair so awful that I have to let it grow out till at least Nov. 2021.
Old school basics for so many options. Thanks for sharing that! Couldn't listen to the vid...music was too loud and disjointed....my brain cuts out...lol.
Heather G Thanks for the comment Heather keeping the old school alive. noted on the music front,You’re absolutely right it is three dB higher than normal I was always wondering whether the music was too loud but not, thank you Much appreciated your feedback. 😁🙏🏻
Are thank you Heather that is a manikin head that are used in my highlighting cast for Redken sometime last year, I don’t run the highlighting crossed for Redken any more sadly, but I still do it as a in salon coaching day. 👍🏻
OMG that's the 90s lesbian p.e. teacher hair cut! You got it perfect and are a master hair stylist but part of me wants this video to not exist as it might go viral. This haircut was everywhere and please don't make a come back. 😂
this cut is simply a "firefly cut" not princess diana had like this , diana had her nape hair almost 4 inches longer solid 0 degree , sides 45 graduation , top horse shoe she had 90 degree square , innit ?
Absolutely Patricia course I can I am based in Brighton UK I’m currently on furlough due to coronavirus but if Brighton UK is feasible for you then I will be back at work hopefully on the 4th of July
This is NOT the classic Princess Diana haircut lol. Maybe in her later years, but THE Diana haircut was what she had when she married Prince Charles, and that was more like a longer firefly that was feather. This is basically just a longer pixie. 🙄
I predict this cut is going to make a huge comeback soon. Thank you so much for sharing !
Yes so do I funnily enough
I'm here because I had a client want this yesterday
I had a very short pixie that's been growing and it's looking like this haircut right now. I loooove it!!
I want her haircut but I’m afraid the stylist might not get the shape quite right. :( it’s pretty
Thank you so much! I've been searching for a tutorial for this for such a long time! I don't think it's out of fashion, it's so simple and elegant that is timeless. Thanks again!

It’s such a cracking cut a great technique for discipline 👍🏻
I don't think this style will ever go out of fashion
James . Beautiful haircut. I have seen this haircut before .Thanks
Thank you very much Jamie

Oh that is fantastic to know thank you very much for letting me know it makes making the video so worthwhile when it can help people
I've had a request for this last week by an older customer. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome Lili
It may be out of fashion but I see many in the younger generations starting to want this look. The young like to take the old and make it new again.
I learned this in beauty school in 1976 Dorothy Hamill and the Farrah Fawcett were the big styles for short and long
Thank you so much !

My very favorite haircut! I wore it for years and I still give many wedge cuts!
Fantastic one of my favourite hair cuts too I still have my hair cut like this
Great to see training on a beautiful wedge cut. I loved this my slightly longer wedge cut back in the 70s

I ADORE old school hairstyles!!! I wanna try this out but I’m SUPER scared my hairdresser will mess up
It turned out good bro!
Thanks Bro, Big up the old school! ✌🏻
One of the first style I learned. Some of my clients still ask for it.
