  • The Shag a.k.a. The Farah Fawcett haircut I only think this haircut is going to go from strength to strength through 2021 and beyond a super simple hair cutting technique. One that I would not be able to work without this haircut I will do multiple times a day sometimes of various different lengths using exactly the same principles as you see in this video.
Could this be the most requested haircut of 2021!!

I am making sure my hairdresser sees this. I adore this shape, for me, I would like the length to break just past my shoulders. As a 69 year old, I see no reason not to have the hair I have always loved. It suited me then, it will suit me now. A great length for up/ downwear and weather proof. Always a good idea in Ireland. I laughed when you said she has curly hair but you cut the bangs AT her brows. If you had done that with me, my curls would’ve sprung up into my hair line, well above my eyebrows. I think it’s worth mentioning the tightness of curl will dictate the length to start, especially since you are cutting it wet,

I have had this haircut in different lengths since 80's, I just don't do the perms anymore😂 Through the years hair stylist had no clue how to cut this style so I have been doing it myself for many years and have had so many people inquire on who cuts my hair and I have ended up cutting a few friends hair by request. This cut is great and easy to style even for thin hair. It never really went out of style, it's how you style it that keeps it current as well as keeping your wardrobe and make up current. This cut also is great to pull up in a ponytail and leave the bangs out and a bit of wisps on the sides. The way it is layered makes a nice, easy little updo that can be casual or formal depending on your efforts in styling it. Fabulous haircut!

So glad to see this! I have wavy hair like hers and there's always this thing that women have about growing out your hair. Well...long hair pulls out any wave or curl for a lot of women and they look terrible. We wish we had wash and go one length hair but you've got to work with what you've got. Call it a mullet, out of style, call it what you want but it sure makes this hair type look much fresher.

I was very active in producing these (Videl Sasson) cuts in the 70's. I agree with your method, but not with the length you cut it around the front. Too short. In months time it will be the length she wanted, but the fringe will be too long as will the crown to back lengths. Curly, wavy hair is different when the client washes and styles their hair at home. It isn't loaded with conditioners, left on for half an hour or more, while combing it very straight the whole time. It shrinks a lot. Sometimes the top layers are too long for the overall shrinkage that goes on, typically at the front, leaving a highly bouncy front area and a flat crown and back. So, on curly hair, leave it longer around the face, unless the client has asked for it to be shorter, or they have stronger features that suit their face being framed by shorter curls, and the back being in balance. In other words, for a shorter overall cut. The overall length from front to back must correspond and balance. It was clear that she didn't want to lose her length at the back, which you knew, but then went short anyway, leaving an unbalanced line from front to back and crown to front and back. Only stating this because i saw so many stylists not actually listening to the clients, or thinking of how it will look when the client deals with it. And the latter is the most important thing. Balance is key, not fearful clients seeing so much being removed and changes being made throwing the whole look off. It took many years to grow those lengths, and to cut them off so short around the face like that was pointless. I have loose curly hair myself, so i know how it feels when it's made t look nicer by the stylist, but once it's shampoo'd, It's a different story. Curly hair should often be shampood after cutting to bring back it's natural curl and bounce before drying. She will need only the fringe, crown to back and back length area cut for a few times in future to balance it out. I don't have just one shaggy style/length in mind. I'm talking in general. Cutting the whole front to the shoulder line so short, then leaving a really long crown to back length is like the back was not cut, only the front. I understand she told you mid way to leave her lengths at the back, but only because you went way too short at the front and sides. Balance and understanding curly/wavy hair, and also the care once home, is exactly what clients expect. Not styles for styles sake in the eye of the stylist. Clurly hair cut so short around a face doesn't move. It tightens short, hugging the head. Lots of products are required to make it heavier. Hope you get what i mean.

Oh thank the Lord I'm not the only one who thinks it dusn't look right. I started saying to the hairdresser 'Your cutting too short, don't cut it short'. Soon, that changed to a yell, 'You're cutting her a mullet' lol.
I know she asked the guy to stop cutting but by that time, he had already chopped off the length at the front and sides and so had to leave the back as if it belonged to a different style. To me, the hairdresser made a serious mistake in taking far too much off in the very first cut then he had to compensate for that by continuing to cut front and sides short. No, I don't think this is a good look, it's no more like Farrah Faucetts haircut than mine is. If you're reading this Mr. Hairdresser, I apoligise but I think you screwed up with that overly short first cut!
