Totally agree with everything that was said about this bike. I took one out recently on a test ride...what an experience. So good in fact that that I have placed an order for one. Great review of a "game changing" bike!
I'm 16 and planning on getting my first bike when I turn 17, I saw a 899 Panigale just the other day and it is now my dream bike for when I get older, it looks and sounds amazing
Your reviews make any automotive seem awesome. I like them so much, and it happens that you did all the reviews for my dream bikes. Only that I can't afford them ;'(
"3 levels of ABS and 8 levels of traction control that I can adjust simply by rolling off the throttle" is hyperbolic and not exactly true (although, technically, rolling off the throttle is required to effect the riding mode change). It needs more clarification, that the only changeable thing on the fly is the 3 x riding modes. To adjust the TC and ABS within each riding mode, one must not be moving.
Dear AutoTrader and Jon Quirk, this is a wicked overall review with gorgeous videography and of course quite informative, has been influential in making this one of my all-time favorite super bikes. By any chance, what are the two songs... first one: 0:58-2:16, and second one: 2:16-2:30? Great stuff!
How do you ride sportsbikes on the street? Just test rode Panigale 899 and Daytona 675 and ended up having a severe lower back pain and neck strain due to the aggressive forward leaning position. I'll stick with my naked Street Triple R.
I'm stuck between this 899 or a daytona 675r as my bike upgrade choice... i would use it mostly for street and fun riding on weekends and nice weather, not my primary vehicle. Also like the idea of taking it to the track sometime. Alot of people are saying the 899 would be better for street riding because of the daytona's riding position but I love everything about the Daytona (except for the looks which the 899 wins in that department). Also not a huge fan of the 899 sound compared to the daytona, is this ducati just a much better choice than the daytona- would I get the daytona and regret my purchase because of how uncomfortable it is? Could anyone comment on what would be a better choice?
@@ShootingAngels ducati hands down, I've had an 899, 959, and now a Pamigale V4, there is no substitute or comparison. Fastest, sexiest, and best performing machines on the track and the road
I have a HP4 and I want to buy a V-Twin. I think this is a good one to go for considering the price difference between the 899 and the 1199 R (which I am considering as well)
The R isn't worth the money imo. Get either the base or the S. Same engine on all trim levels - step up the the S if you want the electronically adjustable suspension. The rest is just bolt-ons, esthetics, and some carbon fiber / lighter pieces for the most part. Also, if you're used to an HP4 the 899 will feel underpowered.
No. Sure depends always how you use your brain. But use these bikes only on the road it is a pity.. not takes full advantage and you tire easily. Take a bike "right".. driving .. learn step by step. Ps Obviously it's just a personal opinion (but given from years of experience and many broken bones lol)
this panigale has a passenger seat and most of the models i saw has no passenger seat.....what model is this.....???899 panigale s???? or is there anything else...??
Thanks for your comments, Dave. Do let us know if there are any bikes you'd particularly like us to review and we'll make sure they're on the list. Best, J
Great review, can you please comment on the low to mid-range torque for around town. I've heard you have to keep it revved pretty high, is this true? Please do more reviews, how about the Diavel. Thank you.
Hey Antonio, thanks for your comments. You'll have absolutely no issues on low to mid-range performance with the 848. When you're in town, you'll more likely feel the bike's almost feral energy - like a Ferrari road car, this bike can happily do town work, but it really feels so much more comfortable at higher speeds. If you're going to do a lot of town work, perhaps the riding position and performance of the Diavel or Hypermotard may be better suited? Will keep you posted when we get a 2014 Diavel in for testing! Thanks for your support, J
Thanks a lot for that I was very curious about the things you touched on I still can't decide but the best part is I have plenty of time to choose but currently love my 675 it's a smooth power plant.
Very similar in handling, but engine response is very different. The 899 engine sounds/feels very similar to any other parallel twin although the frame absorbs a lot of the vibration. Where as i felt that the 675r i rode was very smooth with delivery. Surprisingly the 899 seat is much more comfortable for me ( 6'1 220Ibs) over the 675r seat, which is a bit stiffer. The 899 rear suspension feels a set for someone that weighs around 150-170Ibs, but actually works better for me because it doesn't feel as stiff and resets over bumps a lot smoother than what my friend; who is much smaller than me, stated it felt like. The handle bars and rake is actually much more relaxed than the 675r, once you sit down on it. I bought the 899 over the 675r to say the least.
I'm guessing your a seasoned rider. If you track a lot, maybe just dish out some extra bucks for the bigger brother! If just a weekend warrior or commuter, take the 899. What year was the R1?
wolfslife21 I would recommend a standard 1199 panigale. I have a 2013 version in white which I picked up second hand with 3300kms cheaper than a new 899 on road. Power delivery is still smooth and the extra power and ultra light weight will mean you wont be wanting for more....especially since you're coming from an R1. A good mod is to change the rear sprocket to a 41 tooth......the same as the Panigale R to give it extra punch as the standard 39 tooth is too long. You can then spend money on customising and still have heaps left over.
Think I would give a kidney to ride a 998 mopar man , let alone own one! You're buying an icon that transcends motorcycling and the 998 represents the final, most developed iteration. In short, we approve! Best of luck with your search. Would it help if we produced a Used Bike Guide for the 916 - 996 - 998?
If you missed this in this review, 'oh wait, these weren't mentioned..." Ducati sport bikes are rolling barbeques. It is sad to see people's dreams dashed within an hour of rolling out of the dealer show room. Specially if they used reviews like this to help with their purchase decision. Ducs simply suck on the street unless you only ride at 3 o'clock in the morning in desserted frontier towns... The heat that billows onto the rider ruins the experience. Add to that gearing that doesn't work on the street, clutch slaves that require death grip and Engine mapping that is nonexisting below 3000 RPM so this review begs the questionI, "did you do anything except ride some twisty road for 15 minutes. Maybe on the track you can live with it, but certainly not on the road. And the fact that reviewers and testers like this site completely obscure these deal-breaking flaws does a great disservice to their intended audience. People rely on these reviews to help inform a decision. Ducati owners owners spend their post-purchase lives scouring the Internet for answers, lamenting the fact that there aren't any and wrapping their exhausts as a final act of futility. If you leave you live in or near an urban Center, drive your new Ducati directly into your living room where it will give you the most pleasure. I have owned two high-performance Ducatis, have toured the factory and have bought the swag…The dream literally up in flames ...
Am I the only one looking at this and saying "holy shit that bike looks like a pain in the ass to ride?" Look at the painful expression on the riders' face, the hunched-over riding position and all the camera-shake while riding on what looks to be a pretty-smooth English road. That's 2 minutes of "why you shouldn't buy and ride a motorcycle in England". The bike sounds great, though ;) ...but seriously what is with all the push for this bike even for people who have no desire to actually buy and ride a motorcycle?
this is a great bike without question.but it still does'nt make sense that they took the 848 evo out of the market and replaced it with this one. i like the design of 848 evo way better than 889.
lolspain86 I would definitely buy one and place it in the middle of the office just for its gorgeous design, but about the sound you may be right. Should be totally different in person. P.S. I love Jap screamers
Ducati exhaust sound typically cannot be recorded properly. There is a large amount of bass in the sound and the sound spectrum is so wide that typical mic cannot capture the whole range correctly. Thus it always sound weird in videos.
marmoot Ducati has to put a limited exhaust system to keep up with Road Standards US and other countries have. Either put an after market exhaust on it or just deal with it.
not worth it when there are more bikes that give more for much much less.. I dont get why people are so hyped about this bike or even the more shitty 1199?? bmw s1000 zx10r still out perform ducati in every single category
This bike is just too good looking
There’s why I own one 😀
Totally agree with everything that was said about this bike.

buy a yamaha r6 2010 to 2014 it sounds better and lighter and faster than 899
Your reviews make any automotive seem awesome. I like them so much, and it happens that you did all the reviews for my dream bikes. Only that I can't afford them ;'(
Such a beast... From ducati. As expected.

Jon Quirk gets out and about on the new Ducati 899 Panigale
Can I have 1 please
Alley Ramakgolo
a Jon Quirk?
Drool.....That's gorgeous....
Great review Can you advise on the heat issue from the exhaust? Also how would this bike do in a city commute environment? Thanks
+The Incredible Sulk Great questions..Has he answered?
By far one of the best reviews on the 899 :D! Thanks heaps for that!

Great review thank you.
I like his Arai, I bought an AGV AX-8 naked evo recently, proves you don't need a race helmet for a sports bike.
I have a HP4 and I want to buy a V-Twin. I think this is a good one to go for considering the price difference between the 899 and the 1199 R (which I am considering as well)

Is the height of the bike adjustable? Cause i'm 6'7 but just can't let go of the thought of owning this beautiful motorcycle.
I have experience on a 250cc and i have my endorsement and i was wondering if this would be a good first bike?
No.

No because you will drop it for 1, and 2 ducatis are very expensive to maintain.
Great video man. Can you do more motorcycle reviews ? Thank you
Can you give the links for all the gear you got on in the video? or the least, the names of what they are called
this panigale has a passenger seat and most of the models i saw has no passenger seat.....what model is this.....???899 panigale s???? or is there anything else...??

But there’s unfortunately for some strange reason no gas gauge on the screen, isn’t it??!
My wife comes on the back of mine,no problem at all to my surprise , really love this bike.......
Any issue with exhaust heat in traffic mate?
Ohh yes in traffic your balls are going to get a roasting.

I currently have a Daytona 675 would this be a good second or no any advice.

should i get a panigale R or a 899? I had 2 R1 and currently have a ducati 848 evo
I'm guessing your a seasoned rider. If you track a lot, maybe just dish out some extra bucks for the bigger brother! If just a weekend warrior or commuter, take the 899. What year was the R1?
my yamaha was a 2011 R1.

Thanks Man Good idea
Can you get powerheelies with the 899 or is´t there enough power?
If you have to ask this you probably don’t have enough experience on bikes to ride one safely
they really need to improve the heat issues, might get more customers ;)
Great review.
Can you guys review the ducati sport classic?
It has a rigid air-box that's bolted to the cylinder heads and the steering head is bolted to that, not the motor. Just sayin'
The chassis number is somewhere on the bike ....
Is this 899 panigale suitable for beginner??
no
+Rifqi Zalman No super bike made is for a beginner
try something like the Yamaha R125 / R15 / R3 first to get used to riding and the position similar to super sports.
Brothers first bike was an R1 as long as you dont go daft. You would be fine!
If you can control your self and use your common sense. It doesn’t matter what motorcycle you ride
can the rear tire melt fast bec of the exhaust is too near?
will it affect the rear tire?
+ShinN EiJiN no
+zico falcao I think the fairings will melt before.

Because the tiny size of that pillion seat would turn almost anyone off.

i tried it yesterday my personal opinion is this bike has a lack for aerodynamic, at high-speed u can't hide it's very annoying
You are apart of the aerodynamics on superbikes. If you don’t want to be involved get a sport tourer/bagger bike
big up my partners
Great!
heeyaa i bet a honda grom is faster oyhe
youtube person groms usually max out at about 65 tho
Your helmet would rather fit to a cross-bike.....
You're right, Duc. Currently using my Arai Tour X-4 for all manner of bike reviews, including sports bikes. What helmet would you recommend?
X-Lite 802R; great value.
