    The soulbound conceit is one of the coolest parts of soulbound as an rpg, it’s a blessing, an honorable duty, a terrible curse, a mark of an outsider, a profitable enterprise, a personal power play and charitable selfless act all in one, depending on the culture of the individual who’s joining a binding- and often more than one of those things at the same time.
    You end up with parties stuck together all for different reasons but still unified in whatever goal they’re chasing, in a way you really don’t get out of a lot of other TTRPGs

      @@2Tough well to give people an idea they're both secretive societies shrouded in a long forgotten mystery that was sworn to defeat a menacing evil. The price to become a member is high indeed. So much so, that the order is romanticized to gather more recruits.

    • @esweeney47
      @esweeney47 3 роки тому +2

      I describe them as United Nations task forces. Members of different Order “countries” send representatives to the organization, which will then assign permanent teams and then literal bind their souls to each other (for both personal power and insurance that your party members can’t assassinate you).

    • @esweeney47
      @esweeney47 3 роки тому +2

      On the subject of making homebrew archetypes, refer to the Game Master section of the core rules. There is an optional rules section for people making custom archetypes. Having done the xp math on the existing archetypes, custom archetypes are shorted 2-3 xp for their flexibility. Use that as a baseline for building your own archetypes. (Only one of the upcoming players in our campaign have chosen to go the custom route.)
      Your biggest "problem" is coming up with a good racial benefit for the lizardmen. I could see you reusing the Sylvaneth racial perk for the Saurus and the Aelf racial perk for the Skinks. Or you can create something unique.

    Hi Doug. How would you envision a soulbound party being directed? Since they can come from different gods and so forth.
    I can imagine that the stormcasts guide the soulbinding process, so they'd have someone in tune with the gods and knows mighty tasks to undertake, and order/ask the soulbound to go on them. But why would they follow those orders for example (such as the sylvaneth in the party). How would they prioritize quests? And if they dont have a specific purpose after being Soulbounded, what would be their purpose or reason to stay together?

    • @2Tough
      @2Tough  3 роки тому +3

      great questions! I sort of imagine it goes 2 ways: A representative of a god (priest of sigmar for example) will divine their mission and give it to them OR if there's no "Active mission from the gods" they can prioritize based on their personal interests and values. There isnt really a formal process, its up to the GM :)

    Video suggestion:
    What are some examples that a GM can use to portray the Soulbound organization? I have personally described it as a United Nations task force and then run it like a corporation as the game master. However I would be interested to hear the opinions of other groups. Due to the nature of the Soulbound organization, this isn’t a standard adventuring party.

      In my world there is an order of priests who travel the worlds creating Soulbound pacts whenever the stars align or whatever.
      When a priest decides a pact must be made he sets up stall and puts the call out. People then must travel to the location and become a petitioner. There were hundreds out up at the palace of the setting I used and many died in the subsequent trials until just the party and a few NPCs were left. Then the players decided out of the rogues list who they wanted in the party, and believe me there were no right answers lol.

      I'd look at MTG lore for some inspiration. A good version of the infinite consortium could be an interesting organization to work for and provide more information intrigue. The downside of warhammer as a setting is that a limited number of cultures are on good enough terms to visit each other's lands.

    I'm still hopefully waiting for the localization of Soulbound game into my native language. I definitely want to buy it for lore part.

      Nagash, like all of the Pantheon, was involved in the original creation of the Soulbinding ritual. In fact, he may have learned a thing or two that influenced the Ossiarchs...
      There's more on the origin of the ritual in the upcoming Champions of Order book, which I think people will really dig

  • @RothianFairmoon
    @RothianFairmoon 2 роки тому +1

    How is "when you die as a soulbound, your soul doesn't go to Nagash, it breaks apart and disperses." a good thing?!???! that's just a crappy end for a character you put a good amount of time into. Only way I could find that horrid end redeemable is at the end of the campaign you are freed from being soulbound, and your soul won't be destroyed upon death.
    Irl I am a spiritual person with my set of "religious" beliefs so hearing that as a good thing in 2+ tough's list of good things just doesn't make sense. I'd homebrew a different thing into the death mechanics and lore.

    • @2Tough

      "it breaks apart and disperses" - this is definitely a good thing. Because non-existence and are better than eternal torture in the Warp, in the clutches of the Dark Gods.
      Literally: in the old fantasy, the "Garden of Morr" is a place where souls were at rest until they completely dissolved and dispersed.

    • @wishesandfishes
      @wishesandfishes 9 місяців тому +1

      Is having one's soul destroyed really so terrible? I agree that in the abstract existence is preferable to non-existence, but it's not hard to imagine many fates worse than oblivion. The world's major religions have historically spent a great deal of imaginative energy doing just that.
