When I first started riding a full suspension bike after years on a hardtail I was floored by what I could get away with. Things that would have had me off the bike were magically saved. That was 15 years ago. Now on a current full suspension bike with different geometry it’s even better. I loved my hard tail bikes but I have to say that I don’t have the inclination to go back.
I love my hardtail. Recently sold my full sus one other benefit I find with hardtajl is it is easier to have fun. You don't need the same level of terrain or features to enjoy yourself and feel challenged. Dont get me wrong time and place for full sus too, certainly since I've moved away from Canadian rockies hardtail is the ticket for me.
I like riding my full-suspension Trek, it's very forgiving and a lot of fun. I'd rather be a bit overbiked but it would be fun to have a hardtail as well, e.g. for riding more xc in winter.
I started out with a Santa Cruz Chameleon (HT), and love it. Went to a full sus, and love it too. Thing about a full sus is that you can take the rear suspension out of the picture with lockout if that is an option on your shock, then, it is basically a (slightly heavier) hardtail. Can't go the other way with a HT. Just sayin...
I started off on a hardtail, primarily because of how fun they were supposed to be. The area I ride in is very rocky with tons of roots (New England), so I was just getting plain beat up. It was more fun than walking, but also more sketchy and painful than I expected. Full suspension smooths things out to the point where I can enjoy the trail, and not feel like I'm fighting to stay out of the trees. I also have some pretty severe lower back problems, so having that rear shock saves me a ton of pain, even if I don't crash.
I went from 20 years of FS to a HT and its the best thing I ever did, there's no going back for me. If you need proof that you don't need a FS just watch Blake doing the Mega on a HT.👌🤣🤣
Hardtails are good on a bmx/pump track and everything else is better on a full suspension. No arguments. Unless you can't afford a full suspension or just spend your days at a skate park. Aside from linkage maintenance. Full sus is better in every way....
I guess it depends on how you define "better". For me and my local trails going from a hardtail to a FS is like going from white water rafting to chilling on a boat going down the lazy river. It really sapped the dynamic and fun nature out of the trails and kinda makes what was once a really fun trail to blast on kinda boring really. I guess that just means finding more extreme trails, but even blues and yellows are a blast on a HT, on a FS not as much IMO, especially after riding a hard tail for so long.
I chuckled when Blake was presented as a hardtail diehard fan! I feel properly represented already! 😄 I'm very much willing to have a dual-suspension mountainbike but budget is currently a constraint. Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #RideOn #KeepBiking
@@joshuaallswang8016 he's probably a bot. Just like one true cat many bots like to praise hardtails and attack people with full suspension. I would just ignore him.
I love hardtails, fun bikes but for when I'm racing and just riding in general I like full-suspensions a lot more, faster, more efficient and more forgiving on the rough stuff.
In hiding the rear shock the Scott Spark / Genius help address the "harder to clean" issue. Although in doing so I admit they have added to the "Expensive" issue!
Full susp def changed MTB IMO. The trails my friends ride on their full susp are so scary to me that it makes me stick to my hard tail. I don't want to risk snapping my spine in half every time I go on a ride lol.
A full suspension bike is way more worth it than to have a hard trail in the long run. Evan XC bikes and the pros that ride them even know that. That is why we are seeing more full suspension bikes in XC racing. Not only full suspension but they're using dropper post as well. Go figure🤔The saying goes" I rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it". Full suspension all day any day every day.
Go with a 29er hardtail if your trails require you to pedal all the time but overall with good traction and riding comfort I'll stick with the full sus.
As far as my experience is concerned, hardtail mtb is a very good utilitarian & general purpose bike, & enough for the (on-/off-) road conditions that I have here at my end. It's also good for learning & enhancing biking skills. Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #RideOn #KeepBiking
My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
I really H8 riding full sus... so sluggish. IMO unridable bikes foor unridable terrain.... For pumptrack, I find a BMX bike no sus and 80psi tires outperform any mtb. 😉
So I’m not sure what you guys are doing it seems to me that you’re on some kind of hard tail push I wish you guys would go back to more tutorials and gear reviews. I’m not watching any of these videos. My first bike was a hard tail and I went to full suspension and it was a big improvement in bikes. I think you guys are confusing people with this type of content. Just my opinion.
No way, lots of places hard for reaching, not considering all moving parts. I own a Session, clean lines, but definately harder for cleaning than my HT mtb or road bike
Some linkage designs are a lot harder to clean 'well'. For example Yeti's rear suspension looks horrible to clean. But I agree with you. A lot of simple four bar linkage designs are not that hard to clean
@@user-kk9ez9hg4z still every once in a while you need to take the whole thing apart to really clean it, inspect and replace bearings etc. That is a lot of work compared to zero on the hardtail.

My current dream build is a hardtail, and I already ride a full sus! I just miss the pureness and simplicity of the good ol rigid back.

Thanks GMBN, I was just about to spent 3000€ on fs bike but you managed to change my mind. Hardtail power!

We totally agree! Hardtails are still great and have a place in MTB!
@@gmbn Especially my Cannondale Lefty, amazing hardtail
Once you go squishy, it's hard to go back. I just find it fun to squish. That's all a person needs in their life. Just squish.
Full squish has got to be full fun, right? 😅
Can confirm they are more expensive. I bought mine for $40 on craigslist while my hardtail cost only $20. That's double the price!
With the right setup including fork and tires, a hardtail can do almost everything a full suspension can. Blake has already proven this many times.
Yeah it *can* do most things, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good experience. Even Blake will tell you that!
Can't afford a FS. And that is why I ride a HT.

Just own both. Hardtail midweek fitness then smash the full squish at the bike parkweekends
asik dari dulu ngikutin channel ini succes GMBN😊
You can get faster bearings too think they are up to abec 10/11 now ,5 was fast when I was a kid but that was roller blades
Great video 😃 Great location 😃 and mountain bikes , hard or full 🤷♀️ I like both ❤
Thanks so much as always, Anita! 👊
Ooh new vid!
Always! 😉
please do a comparison: 29er full sus vs 27.5 hardtail.. which is faster on an xco race track.
gmbn has become a hardtail cult now. Luckily i ride one
Haha! They are great, but of course, full-suspension bikes are just as good! 😂
@@gmbn the truth is that i can't afford a full sus lol
I look at it this way, the front has suspension so why shouldn't the rear? Full sus all the way baby
Yeah, absolutely! Why not? 😂
Damn ok because i was gonna get a Giant Stance Full Sus, but now idk if i should get a hardtail?

I'd go with a full-suspension, if you're planning to ride black diamonds with speed you ain't going to be having fun on a hardtail.

Hardtail’s for Hard Men😤
People who bash full sus bikes are people who can’t afford full sus bikes.
I love a full sus but all-round prover a hardtail

I disagree they aren’t harder to clean. This is a big exaggeration. Spray it down the same way you do a hardtail.
