If you are riding fast and see that, there isn't even a half a second to react, much less spend time glancing around at each other. You can't see that scene out of context. Jake Moore is pissed off at Bretton for tanking his former company and causing his mentor to commit suicide. Jake is there to take revenge, so he must first earn his respect. The only way to earn the respect of some like James is to challenge him since he's got too many kiss-asses surrounding him anyway. It's a strategic ploy to hit Bretton at his weak spot, his ego.

saw this movie before, rewatched yesterday, as a 30+yr motorcyclist, former racer and current trackday rider, this is the STUPIDEST scene in the world. if you are this rich, why wouldnt you just rent any racetrack in the area and go ride it all day? who would take $100k worth of bikes, and ride them down wet, leaf covered, tree lines country roads in a competitive way...where at any point in time you could loose traction, or have an animal cross your path and crash. Any number of racetracks would be available for them to not only do this safely, but also in a true competitive way to see who was really better. Whomever the stunt people were who performed this should have advised better.
