The return spring in the valve body pushes the solenoid rod back in. If you pushed on it at all you would have mucked up the whole scam on selling a new egr valve. If you plugged it in, pretty darn simple test, it would have worked just fine. I know because I do all the maintenance on my 2011 ram 2500 cummins myself, including the 67500 service. If you sold that customer a new egr valve when you never bothered plugging the one you cleaned back in your an a-hole mechanic and why I work on my own vehicles. Seriously you didn't notice that with the egr valve cleaned when you put the solenoid back on you had to let the rod go back in to get it on because if you hadn't the damn egr valve would have been open.
Nice job explaining the EGR system. Good call on the solenoid assembly. As a mechanic myself you did the right thing so disregard any negative comments. Thanks for posting
So, I’ve only briefly begun to listen to this video and immediately it is clear that the problem we are having with our truck is not the same. Our truck starts, will drive and sometimes…has no issues, however, often the truck looses power from the pedal. The truck can be operated without issue on the interstate using cruise but if shifting/speed changes are required, the truck looses power. We have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix the problem one of which was changing the pedal & body grounding strap. We have recently had it suggested it could be a turbo sensor issue. I am reaching out in an effort to help my husband find a solution. If anyone has had this same problem and has ideas, we would be grateful if you shared your solution. TIA
Following! I got a 2008 6.7l with 6 spd manual transmission. I loose power when I shift speed and it sorta sounds like I have the exhaust brake on but I don’t anyone else experience this before?
@@abmtz8537 I have a 2007 manual transmission if I don't feather the pedal I have turbo noise that sounds like a engine brake it just started this morning did you figure yours out?
@@zachlangolf2287 I only have a few months with mine. On my first oil change I didn’t change out the fuel filter so I figured it might be that. So far I haven’t had any problems since I replaced it hopefully it was just that.
Did you ever get the problem solved? I'm just having the same issue, and I don't have a ton of cash to throw at it. Thanks for any help pointing me in a direction!!
Ok. Hopefully you see this and reach out. I have a 2015 ram 5500 utility truck, I have 3 codes. P2bac, p0401, p0471. Egr vavle is new, exhaust pressure sensor new, new egr cooler, no blockage in the exhaust system, no blockage in the intake system. Turbo and vgt brand new. Have good power, good grounds, good signal from signal wires, great continuity all the way back to pcm. Map sensor is new, maf is good barometric sensor is good. Intake air temp sensor is good. Am I missing anything?
Seems to me he should have hooked the electrical portion back up to see if the computer would have retracted the electrical portion of it because carbon could have stuck the valve in that position and the motor couldn't retract so when disconnected would have remained open until reconnected may or may not be faulty incomplete diagnosis
How do you tune out the emissions? I want to get rid of that big soot cooker on my exhaust and the solenoid on the egr. I would really appreciate any ideas.can a mechanic do it??
FYI, last year I had a recal and I didn’t want to take it in but found out that if I didn’t I would not get my registration stickers!!!!! The recall added restrictions on my truck and now I have no power. This could be happening to all trucks do to the fake and lies we have in California
Hey bud, Im looking to buy a 2012 5500 that the owner said someone stole the cat and he thinks also the DPF. He said he cant guarantee if it wont go into limp mode.. My question is, What can i do if it does go into limp mode to get it home? Thanks ahead of time!
Do you think this could cause a P0299? My truck when started sounds like it stuck in a regen....absolutely zero boost or power. Sometimes it will just come around and about snap your neck off accelerating when it is having a fit. Very intermittent....but is getting progressively worse. Truck went in to dealer immediately first engine cel (literally the next day). They told me the excessive regens were from a dirty air filter....😂. Still an issue and is getting worse by the day. Again. P0299. Sounds like either the exhaust brake is on or in a regen. Symptoms seem like something is sticking. I dont have a scan tool...but the second time the cel came on....I was leaving work and stopped at parts store for a scan. Any I put would be much appreciated. Don't think it is bad turbo. When it is not acting up....first gear from dig deliveres 30 pounds...and through the gears it hold between 22 and 25. There is a pretty hard refuel and stumble between I think it is the 4 to 5 shift....this is likely the torque management doing it's thing but being over shot or misinterpreted by ecu as egr is sticking. Lastly. I know on the 19 to 22s at least.....the egr cycles a few times after after shutdown to clean itself...this is still doing its thing and sounds as normal as it has the life of the truck. 2022. 2500. 51k miles. Please help....SOS!
1. Ensure that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software is current, if not, flash update the controller before continuing diagnosis. 2. Check the air intake system for any leaks, pressurize the turbo plumbing system using 20PSI of air supply, then check for leaks with a soapy water solution. Pay careful attention to the charge air system rubber hoses, often times these will develop small cracks that can leak but are hard to pinpoint. 3. Check the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve operation. Try running the actuator test to see if the valve moves. Note: Shorted EGR valves can damage the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). 4. Last one I had was a faulty EGR valve
@fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 after another couple hours of reading and really bringing full circle the symptoms.... The lag is something to be reconed with...I got the issue to replicate to the point I drove it half mile down the road and back home with no boost until I was about to pull in the driveway then I came on like I hit the truck with a bottle. About half hour before that....I was driving the truck using the exhaust brake and almost like I stole it to see if anything would stand out. The thing that stood out....the exhaust brake too is intermittent at this point. No other codes for egr or dpf, just underboost. It stands to reason, either the actuator for the veins is dying a slow death....or the veins are carboned up. I dont hardly work the truck like it should be worked, but it gets up to operating temp plenty on my commute to work and typically has plenty of time to start and finish a regen in a single haul. The bad side....I dont get the truck up on highway much anymore with it being summer and kiddo not in school. My route is much different during the summer. As far as PCM flash, injust picked the truck up Friday of last week for recall service (you know....EPA over reach reprogramming) and the DPF sensor install. Oh....and the touch screen was replaced for the second time....oh...and the power steering is leaking again. I greatly appreciate your response and have taken a screen shot of the information you have shared. I am going to get the truck up on the highway the next couple days and exercise the exhaust brake to hopefully clean up the exhaust side of turbo. Of that doesn't straighten the thing out...I am going to dig into your list one by one. And I will be going to the forums to share the symptoms and fixes. I'm not alone I'm sure....expensive truck....low miles....out of warranty....fixing it myself. Thank you sir!
@fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 I will add....I had an 05 F360 with the "dreaded" 6.0 (I had really....little issue with mine and it was a darn good truck and had the 6 speed). That truck also went through ots far share of scratch your head turbo stuff eith the veins. I ended up pulling it apart, cleaning it, put new seals in it, cleaned the EBP tube and truck ran fine until I sold it 120k miles later. I forgot about the stuff I did on that truck and the weird erratic turbo/boost issues until reading about it on the cummins forums. Same deal.
My 2018 truck doesn’t have the same power like when fist got it. but no check engine light Any suggestions. can the scanner read codes Without checking light?
I use either Lucas or Howes fuel additive about every 3rd tank and at 127k I have never needed had to clean my EGR valve or cooler. It works for me. But I have also noticed that friends that have done tuners and deletes have constant issues with their engines.
So this was the problem all along not the dpf……. Jeez I hate when you mechanics do this! Learn more diagnostics before you end up charging the CUSTOMER SHIT LOAD OF UNNECESSARY COST. and did you know you can clean out those Cummins EGR valve ….. give your customer the option RIPOFFS !!!
One causes the other. The dpf gets clogged over time, makes the engine work harder, soots up the egr, creates more soot, etc. Terrible design. Solution is to delete.
If I ever make a vehicle it'll be my goal to make the company technically a non profit. No profits allowed on vehicles. They must break even. That said I'd want to do away with engineered obsolescence. It's amazing how much more wasteful the push for green has made cars. Nothing is serviceable anymore. I'd wanna pull a volvo and put semi sized bearings in a passenger car 😂
Since we're adding a second fluid anyways why don't they just figure out a proper catalyst for the fuel that gets a more complete burn. Imagine a semi truck that's propane boosted from factory. Fuckin sick in my opinion. Adding ammonia which can crystallize is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

Excellent informative helpful video. I would bet that the actuator would be ok if you push it back in and out a few times to free it up.

I know most shop don't recommend deleting the egr. But deleting would eliminate all that issues.

OMG your video was so much of help ..I took my truck to the dealer and I was told a difrent story and way lot of money .
Tune out the emissions and delete that garbage .

It will go into limp mode. You can have a scanner with you and clear the codes when it goes into limp mode. That should get you home.
That egr valve looks identical to the one on my 05 Duramax im haven a really hard 2 start and no power situation im goin try wat u did
Very nice job
But the DPF is “good” for the world, sorry about the vehicle! I recently switched to the older diesels for this reason.
Power back as unplugged the egr valve mean bad ? Cuz I working on Stepvan … it turn on engine but drive n won’t past 45 mph
Bro just delete that sucker and awaken the beast
