⁣At school, I took lessons on weaving willow baskets. And I didn't really like them. 😪But they were very useful to me yesterday and today, when I finally bought everything I need to create miniature baskets. I'm crazy about them! I've already done 3 and don't want to stop! I hope you enjoy it too!☺😍⠀

The yellow mixture in plastic is dressmaker's wax, you can buy it from a sewing store. As it passes through the wax, the thread becomes thicker and more manageable. I used a brown forristic wire as a base. I fix the top of the basket with PVA glue diluted with water. I glue a decorative pigtail and a handle with PVA too. Finally, I dip the basket into a mixture of hot water and cornstarch. Hot water melts the wax to make the basket look more realistic and durable, while the starch makes it hard when dry. But let the water cool slightly before use, as PVA starts to degrade at 60C. In the open air, such a basket dries for about an hour. But you can use a hairdryer!😉⠀

I showed you the easiest way to weave in one thread. If you will be using 2 strands, then you do not need to put an additional ninth wire.😋⠀

Will you like the tutorial? Please rate it from 1 to 10!😄

Wow! You make tiny baskets just like big baskets are made. This is the most realistic basket I have viewed online. I guess I`ll have to find the material and do some. Just beautiful. I give this tutorial a 10

I love this tutorial. Just to clarify- you run the thread through the wax to make the sticks? Or do you run the thread through the wax throughout the entire weaving process?

The sticks are thin floral wire I believe. The twine is waxed, possibly to make it easier to grip (and help it be less 'fuzzy' when the basket is done)

    (I love Your tutorials!)
Looks to Me as thought You may-be using hemp string for this.
    …Is that correct?
    Thanks!

Hi, I love your tutorials, thank you for posting them. I'm having a really hard time finding thread to do this with. Sewing thread is too thin, and I can't find a thick cotton thread. Can you please share what it is called? Many thanks 😊

If you look in a craft store like Joann Fabrics or Michael's, you will find heavier thread for beading. Up to 1, even 2 mm.

I'm using natural polished hemp that I purchased from Walmart in the jewelry supplies section. It's working perfectly and looks like wicker.

This is not really a; “how to,” but more of a; “watch me make,” video. Would have liked a bit of explanation, or at least more informative filming in the “between transitions” in order to understand the actual steps.
    Enjoyable nonetheless.
