One of the best habits you can create is to start face your fears. Going after those small daily things that scares you - like approaching that cute girl, or having that uncomfortable conversation with your boss. Learn how to stay concius enough to pick up on that FEAR QUE, not escaping it, but acting on it. Taking action - making the routine happen - and then endulge in the great reward you feel afterwards, the sense of proudness for going after what you truly wanted. It's a framework that will colour of to all the different areas in your life, and it's one of the most impactfull things you can do to build your self-esteem. I know, beacuse I've don it. I'm doing it. And I love it. Transformed my life.
HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE, and a special thanks to you Pill, love your work.
    /Alexander

Thanks for that Alexander, it's a great place to start!
If I may, without wanting to put any negativity or religious context here, I would like to point out that pride is one of the seven deadly sins; a pretty negative thing if you choose to over-endulge in it.
What I want to say is that rewards are important, but they shouldn't be the motivation necessarily, more part of the game. :) You have a great day too man!

I loved your voice imitation of the brain! Overall, spectacular video Improvement Pill! I started a routine of reading at least 30 minutes a day, usually in the morning. The problem was it was just as easy not to read. After a period of trying to force myself to read even when I didn't like it, I eventually subconsciously started to remember to read in the morning with enjoyment and pleasure.

You see, forcing your brain to study if you don't feel like is very tricky. Your brain will not internalize all of these information that you read if your brain is not fully cooperating with you. For that, my strategy for studying is that I create time schedules for my studying: for example, 8-10 in the morning, and 8-10 in the evening. Whenever I feel overloaded with information, I get up from my chair, and I stretch, or go to the kitchen and have a snack. I cannot force myself to read anymore whenever I feel sleepy or unfocused because it does not help me in retaining information in the future.

I just finished "The Power of Habit." I have to say Duhigg makes a lot of sense. I'm using this to quit smoking, and for the first time I asked myself, "Why do I smoke?" I came up with a few rewards like socializing, relaxing, getting to step outside and getting away from my work area. Sometimes, however, I don't know what the reward is. I just fire up a cigarette for no real reason. I'm not fitting for nicotine or wanting to socialize or relax. So the first part of my plan for the last three days or so has been to think before I light up. Sometimes chewing gum or playing with my fidget spinner takes its place. Thanks for your video and thanks for telling me about this excellent book.

As a male uni student, I can say this is the most amazing and enlightening course I have observed! I would and will recommend that everyone in my position in life, especially students, should watch these video classes. FYI including my actual uni classes. I would become a patriot immediately unfortunately, I have fallen victim to a few of the psychological traps you so beautify uncover and that has landed me in the unadmired broke student population! But not to worry, after your classes, i shall rise above the ground, dust myself off these bad habits, and set course to return baring fruits as a token of my appreciation, Asante sana (Swahili btw).

I'm on the edge of alcoholism and the brain is really scary. Because of a habbit, no matter how much you know you want to get rid if a bad habbit, your brain will try to convince you to still do it. And in the end, your brain will convince you that it's not so bad as it really is. It's a hard battle against yourself.

I had several bad habits. porn, weed, video games, social media.
I played online competitive games for several hours out my day, everyday. Sitting alone, isolated, overstimulating my dopamine system for hours on end.
If I’m fapping daily, smoking or on UA-cam/reddit/4chan, I am still aware of time passing in my head but online gaming was cutting me off from the flow of time completely. The irregularity of winning and losing created an irregular reward loop and my brain. I realized I was B.F. Skinners pigeon pressing the re-queue button hoping that THIS TIME I’d get the dopamine kick from winning.
My online gaming habit reinforced all my other bad habits too. Once I sold my gaming rig and bought a Mac, my desire to play games went away. All my other bad habits went away on their own.
I’m saying all this because video games never get brought up in addiction conversations except in Asia. Video games SIGNIFICANTLY alter the brains reward system. Once I kicked them, all my other bad habits fixed themselves.

I learned that a lot of people think they are living normally when they are not. Feeling anxiety and depression from not vaping nic is not normal. we are supposed to be relatively calm. and so when we get spiked with anxiety rage or depression as the cue for no reason, and the nic immediately fixes it, we are truly living in a disabled mind set. I pray i can break out of this 🙏

Bad habits should not be erased , they should be replaced. Therefore, in order to overcome a certain addiction or break a bad habit you need to
adopt a positive one . For this matter, you better opt for sketching a habit loop model . This is about finding a cue ( place ,object, etc) and attaching it to an alternative positive routine, and then try to reward yourself. This way you'll gradually replace the bad habit with a healthier one.

I greatly appreciate and admire your dedication and your efforts to what you put out here for us to see.
This guy is a prime example that, if we choose to take life into our own hands, see life as it is and look beyond negativity and our bad thinking and reasoning (which is often thanks to evolution and the environments we live in, no less) and choose to be proactive, we can fill the gaps we might see and feel in ourselves.
It is up to each and every individual watching this, and generally being interested in self-improvement, as well as buildung a better environment around them, to take the time and at the very least consider, truthfully, realistically and with empathy, what kind of life we all want to live and what we can actively do to improve it.
We're all human individuals biologically capable of achieving greatness. Circumstances may seem to limit us, but at the end of the day, we are all beings with consciousness.
Again, it's up to each and every one of us.
Thank you for your great service to us Improvement Pill, have a positive habit on me will ya? :P

You know that every brain of human being is craving for dopamine, right? So I wonder what kind of 'dopamine' your brain is craving.. In short, everyone of us MUST be addicted to something (consciously or unonsciously) because to be human is to have habit. :)

im wondering if we have to completely leave our addictions? as in video games, im addicted and suffer the negative consequences, but is it possible to play from time to time and enjoy the benefits without suffering from the neggative aspects of addiction? and if we fear our addictions so much that we dare not even go near them, do not still have power/controll over us?
would love any oppinions or information about this if anyone knows anything would be much appreciated!

I've been taking cold showers for more than 1 year now. I don't know how long it takes to create a habit, but to me, It took a pretty long time for it to be 100% effortless.

My habit is shutting people down when they talk about their feelings, or their opinion. I didn't realise I did it until my partner pointed it out. I'm hoping that this helps

It may be possible to destroy a habit - by changing the association between its trigger and an emotion. You could connect the trigger to an unpleasant emotion. Paul McKenna has demonstrated that on stage.

Please answer ...Can cue and reward be same? For eg : CUE - whenever u feel bore
    Routine - internet , smartphone
    Reward - to releive boredom
Its look like cue is also boredom and reward we get is also to releive bordom

The biggest reward is just making the urge go away

Hey, love your videos and the effort you put in to this but one small suggestion is that , the videos get boring , you know like mind drifts away no matter how hard you concentrate , try ditching the writing anime once in a while in the video and add eye catching stuff or real pics maybe that'll keep us in path , what do you think ?
