    This episode is so transitional in the delos saga…. I mean the next one hits hard but this one is such a high…theres no where to go but down….for a bit. Its Santosh, its the phillipines, its Raja Ampta, and soon it will be Madagascar. Great journey. Thank you for sharing the adventure.

    WOW! Brian this may be one of my favorites too.
    The first time I watched it I was :"catching up ' on past episodes . Now that I have been following for a few years, I have a MUCH better appreciation for the video. What a wonderful experience that must have been for the crew and captured so lovely. ♥

    It is good to know that this beautiful area is being protected by this crew of great men! Those fish appear as ocean flowers! You were so lucky to be invited onboard that ship for a feast and fellowship. Those coconut crabs must be strong to open coconuts! Careful Brady! ❤️⚓️

    Such an amazing video! I mean I knew Josje was leaving, but that hit hard! So sorry for the whole crew. I know ya'll have moved on, but dang. On a different note, I wanted ya'll to know that you've inspired me and I went out and bought a small 21' sailboat to take to the lakes around my stomping grounds and start learning! So thank you for that. I wish the best for all the Delos crew and smooth sailing. I continually look forward to seeing your next adventure. It's amazing that ya'll are living a life that most people wouldn't even dream of. Thanks again!

    This is my favorite Delos video. It has everything one could ask for. Many Delos videos seem like a factual travel log while this one is more like an episode. Cruiser culture, a callback to the Philippines, good news about coral (finally! yay!), and the crew split is tied in well with previous episodes.

    Such a good episode. A little bit of sailing, a little bit of history, a little bit of nature, a little bit of cruising fun - and then a fairly whopping great bombshell at the end. A veritable roller coaster of an episode. I know these things don't make themselves. Well done crew and production team.

    Just watched my beloved Walking Dead season opener tonight which put me in a bit of a funk. WD fans know what I mean. After that a Delos vid pops up and puts me right where I need to be. There aren't enough superlatives to describe the Delos crew, as you we're exploring that island I felt like a kid exploring with you. Awesome feeling!
    Brian, if ever you obtain another yacht you should name her 'Endorphin', that's what your vids do for us.

    after catching me watching this latest upload, my wife has declared me officially addicted to Delos videos. She may have a point, it is 2:03am. But hey, I couldn't sleep! and it seems like you guys tend to upload new ones about that time back here in the States. Josje.... you're an adorable personality, a beautiful woman and I'm sure this experience has made you strong enough, adventurous enough and provided you the drive necessary to be successful in what ever direction your new course sends you. You'll be dearly missed from future videos! I can't imagine how the rest of you feel about her leaving. Happy, excited and sad all wrapped together. When we first saw this we had no idea this was the end of what I felt was a fabulous era for Delos. Not that Delos became less of an entity, but it was never the same after this. I loved the years prior to to this most of all. This episode was over the top with discovery, adventure, and happiness. Or so it seemed. That said, the island is about the change. It is most likely in the process of being returned to its original inhabitants ! The decision has been made, vote taken by the UN, and folks should watch closely from now on as incredible things may happen ! A new generation.

    I was a Navy Sea Bee that was stationed on Diego Garcia from October 1971 to June of 72. When I got there, it was still pretty much the way the native people left it. It was, without a doubt, the most beautiful place I had ever been. The roads were just wide enough for one donkey cart. The huts were still there along with the donkeys. There was also an abandoned jail. The natives hadn't been gone long..

    I spent 10 months on Diego Garcia in 1971. When I got there, the island was still pristine and the copra plantation was still operating. I arrived by sea from California and flew out on a C 130 off the air strip we built. It was one of the best times in my life except for the part where we ruined the lives of the people who lived there, Thanks for bringing it all back with your UA-cam video.

    You guys are a day ahead of schedule! Well for the regular youtubers. Wow! Even better than the last video! So sad to Josje saying she is leaving even though its been known for so long.
    Totem crew are just the rock stars of cruising! Seems they have blazed the path with 3 kids for the rest of the cruising world!
    I think I would stay for whole permit before moving on. It would also be really great if the true Chagosians were allowed back on the island! I could see that enviromentalists may also be behind not wanting anyone to live on the island as it's so remote and with the way our world is getting overpopulated its one of the rarely touched places on earth.

    • @svdelos
      @svdelos  8 років тому +3

      Hey Jonathan, You hit on some key points here! 1) Totem are rockstars. 2) It sucks that the Chagosians got kicked off their land so Diego Garcia could be turned into a military base But.... 3) Now it' s one of largest uninhabited marine preserves on the planet. We have such mixed feelings about it all.....

    • @jonathank5289
      @jonathank5289 8 років тому

      Delos! Thanks for a reply 2 videos in a row! Well you guys are a close 2nd behind Totem! As for you point #3 I totally agree per the end of my comment. After watching so many sailing videos showing how the galapagos islands are so commercialized along with many exotic places along the way. Chagos reminds me of the extreme out islands of Hawaii where no one is permitted. Full of trash also!
      I feel these islands will used to analyze the heath of many reefs around the world. No settlement will ever be rebuilt there. maybe a few small building for scientists but most like they'll live on ships like this one.
      In the end there will always be cultures that are taken over or removed. Its happened for millions of years. When the earth gets sick of us destroying her she'll get rid of humans just like she did in the past to those that came before us.

    That was fantastic! Such a nice job showing the health of the reefs. This was a great example of how I used to interact when our ship would come across cruisers. All research ships enjoy the interaction with cruisers, especially in the tropics. Thank you. Just so you know, the German ships usually have the best beers. Our American ships can't throw a party with alcohol unless we're on land.

    Found SV Delos while checking out a friends sailing vid. Great that UA-cam tossed this my way. After watching, I wasted my youth. Should have taken up sailing and had the fun and freedom you enjoy. Keep the vids coming. Fair winds and following seas.

      Yes, they keep doing it, in fact they're about to sail from Madagascar to Southafrica. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook, they post quite often where they are.
      Greetings from Mexico!

      yes they are originally filmed about 1 year ago, but you have to think about the fact that they are out there in the middle of nowhere sailing for months at a time. Most tv shows and movies are filmed months or years in advance to their release. The quality of their product speaks for itself. Brian and crew keep up the awesome work.

      +swissmrkc Go to their website and read the blog section. The current youtube vids coincide with the 2015 blogs. There's even an entry by Josje explaining her departure (and links to her website).
      They've already had three new people (two dudes and a hippie yoga chick) on and off the boat since then.

    This was really special viewing. Reminded me of North West Island Great Barrier Reef, splendid isolation and all that goes with it (like scarce fresh food too)!

    Wow. You all are having (have had?) such an adventure - my envy cannot be measured. Sadly though the day comes that we have been dreading, Josje is heading home. but not only Josje, but dear, dear Babs as well. But the only constant in life is change, so there we are.

    That looked like one of those surreal situations with BIOT that you have to be there to comprehend. That must have been great. I know that this footage occurred quite a while back, but Josje Rama is really going to be missed. I feel like she has grown so much while watching her on Delos. I suppose everybody has. Because she is so young it seems more obvious. I admire each person on Delos for so many different parts of their character. Josje Rama has such an uplifting spirit. I am glad you all have been able to share such rewarding experiences together. Based on the loving nature of the SVD crew I am sure you are all thankful for each other. I hope that it is not too difficult editing this particular footage. Love, Prayers, and Warm wishes to you guys.
    Fair winds and great travel to you.
    Thanks
    Marty

    Yeah. It's a tragic story. I'm actually Ilôis (Chagossian) myself. The British slaughtered all our pets, destroyed our homes and exiled us from the islands to make way for an army base. This all happened in the 60's-70's, way before I was born, so I'm glad that you made this video because it allows me to see the true beauty of the islands. It's like everybody is on the island apart from the one group of people who own the islands. Hope this comment helped people understand the controversy.

    Thankyou guys for such an amazing episode. Watching you guys over the years I have learned a lot about places and people. You guys are true Sailor's. I'm heartbroken to hear that Yosh is leaving Delos. she has been integral part of this crew. I'm sure going to miss her. Good luck on your future endeavor aND hope to see you back on Delos.
