  • Today I wanted to show how an epoxy finish looks in two different color schemes! You can follow along all the way to the finish, or only do some of the effects and still get an epoxy finish that looks... finished!

    RK3 Designs is a learning studio focused on teaching how to create beautiful epoxy finishes using Stone Coat Countertop Epoxy. These tutorials include epoxy countertops for kitchens, bathrooms, and much more. This channel provides tutorials for DIYers, contractors, designers, or artists.
    Rhonda Dracoulis Founder and Primary Instructor
    RK3 Designs started as a way for Rhonda to showcase her creativity but has blossomed into a way to help others find theirs. Her obsession with painting led her to start refinishing furniture and kitchen cabinets. She found customers wanted a nicer option than laminate but more affordable and customizable than natural stone, which lead her to countertop epoxy! Since then, she’s helped thousands of students, from across the country (and even Canada eh?).

    rk3designs.com || How far into the finish would you call it good? At the base color? At the plastic bag stamping? Or would you go all the way to the stone sprays?

    The final effect looks like "Desert Storm" desert camouflage military uniforms. I really liked the original effect that appeared to be soft marble, before the bag technique was used..

      Was just wondering why you don’t use a tape damn when you do your work?

      @@davidbauerdorf1324 I will on certain finishes where I use more material, like a dirty pour or a melded marble. 👍🏼

    Hi Rhonda, love all your vids…I always learn something beneficial. My answer to your question is…I would love to see this technique with multiple layers of various colors in the same tone.but ending with a light color last…so the darker are deep into the technique for depth. Could you even end by adding a skim layer of transparent color? A sheer grey over the grey, and a sheer cream over the browns? Or would that put too much epoxy on the piece?

      You could definitely do that. You would just use lessen per sq ft. I’ll have to try that!! Thanks!

    Thank you Rhonda. I done the plastic bags on my countertop and there’s just something about them that just looks like they’ve been done with a plastic bag!!

    When you're using mics powder and putting it into a spray bottle with your alcohol, how much mica powder do you put in each full bottle

    The chop marks didn't appeal to me. I have always had granite, no chop marks. Maybe a curve edge twice at most. Thanks for sharing.

    You could do 4 finishes on one board by keeping a middle section on both sides with the original finish only. I thought the earth tone side looked like toasted marshmallows! 😉 Would the original finish be more marble than granite? 🤔 I liked the natural tone side best! 👍

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  3 роки тому +1

      That’s. True. I should have done that!! Then you could see all 4 finishes!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

    I love your videos. I actually just found you this week and have loved the way you do things! Random question...have you used the rustoleum Chalked spray paint? What does it do?
    I think I remember you using it once but, now I'm not sure which video and I'm doubting myself.

      You can use it on your substrate before you pour but I wouldn’t use it in the resin. It will clump up and Speer ate.

    you previously said that you use craft coat from stone coat for your sample boards but I don't see you using it anymore. sounded like a good idea to save some $. What's up?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  3 роки тому

      I do still use it quiet a bit. We also use it in our classes. I’m keeping A lot of the samples that I’m doing and putting them in my shop so I want to use a higher quality resin that has UV protection in it. The craft coat doesn’t have any UV protection so it’s going to Amber overtime. I want these boards to stay nice so people will see them when they come in our studio.

    looked great on both sides without the straight lines. To me it took away from a natural look.
