Are there any videos you would like to see from us? We are continuing the repair and are getting things back together, but would love to break up the content with something fun! 🎉
I loved this episode, one of your best from my point of view. You'll get even more ASMR if you can show enough for us to understand how all the pieces of the drive leg fit together. Maybe re-assembly will be the time for that! A lot of people watch repairs to get the experience/knowledge without having to actually do the work.
The two of you have come so far since your first day on the boat. You have learned so much about so many new things. You can tackle anything now where before you were afraid. I’m so proud of you both. It’s better that this happened in the states instead of the Bahamas. Your boat will get fixed and you’ll be so much safer and have so much more fun. ❤
Thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement! It really does mean so much to us! And yeah, we also recognize that, far easier to get things sorted while over here, just getting antsy to get to living that dream boat life. We really appreciate you being part of our adventure! 🎉⛵🙂🍀
You are telling us! haha. We are getting there, just a harder season of life right now, but we are making our way through. Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Oh the highs and lows of cruising! You are NOT alone! The highs are SO high-EUPHORIC and consequently the lows can appear SO LOW! I've had many "1-800-Sell-the-Boat" moments, yet they are all in the rear-view mirror (waiting for the next!). Just know they ALL pass!! You guys are doing GREAT! Keep reaching for the stars!
It’s so nice to know that we are not alone in this! Thank for the kind and inspiring words! We really need all the encouragement we can get right now ❤️ Thank you so much for watching!! Your support means the world to us.
Of course! We try to show it all, if for no other reason than we wouldn't have anything else to show! But I do think it helps give people a more wholesome view of boat life, not always just floating around and enjoying beaches! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
Thank you! We figure if we have to do it again in the future it will be better that we know how to do it, rather than having to find a mechanic. Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
I don't have anything to say, just commenting to try to bump you guys up the algorithm a bit. More viewers = more money for repairs. I really enjoy your channel!
😂 The interaction really does help, so thank you very much for that! So glad to hear you enjoy the channel, we really enjoy having you as part of our adventure! 🎉⛵
When you're trying to drive out a stuck pin, a metal hammer is much better than a rubber covered hammer for the sharp impact shock that it provides. A smaller metal hammer will be more effective than a larger rubber one since it's the impact shock that moves the pin and the rubber softens that shock. Something else that works well is to preload the pin with a C clamp, then hit the end of the C clamp, then retighten the clamp for more preload and hit again. For stripped screws or allen head bolts, you can get bolt extractors that are like a reverse drill bit. (You need a reversable drill to use them) The idea is that the bit drills in a counterclockwise direction and when the friction between the bit and the bold exceeds the friction between the bolt and the hole, it will spin the bolt out of the hole. There's also a couple of other types of extractors that require you to drill a hole in the bolt head and you then tap them in and they dig into the bolt from the inside of the hole. If you do a search on Amazon you can see the various type of bolt/screw extractors so you'll know what to look for at the local hardware stores. Instead of using sockets, use a 6 or 8 inch extension and hold it with one hand while you hit it with the other. (wear gloves)
Thank you so much for the advice! Good to know about the hammer. I thought a dead weight one would be good, but could see it being a little soft for the situation. I tried those easy out screw extractors but they just did not seem to want to do the trick. Maybe it was because I was using the wrong hammer, but I really felt like I needed two hands and a lot of force, which is why i wasn't using the socket extensions that couldn't stand on their own. Really appreciate you being here with us to help out! Thank you! 🎉⛵
Pat great job working on that drive, you will get it done take your time no rush needed. Michaela, you have a great spirit I hope you know we all see that. Now two things, the first is about expectations, where we all want to be and where we end up. You need to have a understanding of that they are for you, and bringing those two things closer to one another. Please do not think making videos is a need by the people that watch your channel, simply put if you feel pressure to make videos, just don't make them. Here I am a stranger saying I care enough to say if making videos stresses you out please do not until you are ok with it. I say Paint some more or craft a thing you can look back on a year from now to remember your feelings and how they may seem so distant in your present. As for not liking sailing I think mostly because you have been sick and that is horrible, but I also feel that far too many unknowns about sailing are in your mind at this time. I know many people have taken sailing hands on courses to help with this problem and that may be a thing that helps with your fear. Al I can say is look into taking one of these courses on your own but with a class and an instructor, I know there are all female classes as well. Its about growing your sailing skills that will help with your fears and in time I think you may or may not get the sailing bug. Sailing may be for you long term, try to stay strong you have a great team of support so remember we just are following you both, you are actually doing it and be happy.
Hi Michaela here, thank you this was a very kind and thoughtful message! I really appreciate you saying this. I do enjoy making videos because it gives us the chance to interact with folks like you where we otherwise wouldn't have that opportunity, but once in a while it can be a lot. If it really becomes too much we will take a week off posting but otherwise we enjoy sticking to our weekly schedule. You're right I should take some time to make some art! I agree that being more comfortable with sailing makes it a more enjoying experience. I'm in a much better place with it now than I was at the start of our boatlife journey. Maybe I will take some courses next time we hangout in one spot for a minute. Thanks for the encouragement!!
Happy Birthday Patrick (☘️) and trust me ye’re doing fine. All boats are travel and fun but they are maintenance, that’s the way it is, you just have to accept it for what it is. But trust me, you’ll forget all about this when you’re swimming in the clear blue warm water of the Caribbean and enjoying a cool Brugal Anejo and coke. Well done you two, sail on.
Yes, exactly! Have to deal with the maintenance to be out on the water, and it will be worth it! Can't wait to be moving again! Thank you so much for the encouragement and support on our adventure! ⛵🎉
Y'all are gonna get through this bit of rough seas and onto calmer waters soon enough! Keep those heads held high and moving forward, you're doing a great job. ❤❤❤❤❤
That is really kind of you to say, thank you! We are trying to make it work with what we got, but there certainly have been some tool purchases to keep things going 😂 Thank you so much for watching! ⛵🎉
I remember your first video, what drew me to sub was the genuine smiles on both of you, the joy was so obvious and infectious, I stay because you both are honest and show all sides, you got this, and can't wait to see ya'll cruising in crystal blue waters when the time is right!!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We are so glad you came across our first video, we are so happy to have you here 🙂 We also can't wait until we get through this challenge and head to some blue water and beaches! Thank you for watching! ⛵🎉
So glad to have found you! My husband briefly helped Patrick lift the drive leg off of Clara Belle in New Bern. We’ve been DIYing in the boat yard three and a half years, but hope to be in the water soon. Keep up the good work. Your tenacity is inspirational. 😎❤️👍
What that's crazy! I'm so glad you found our channel! ❤️ 3 years is inspiring!! That must be hard, we're glad we can provide a bit of inspiration for you, keep up the good work! 😊 Hopefully we'll see you on the water soon!
Don't apologize for taking the time to take care of yourself, Michaela... we've all been there. Great job on the drive link! Pulling for you two, and excited to see what comes next!
Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement! We will get through this, just like everything else. Going to take time but we got this! Thanks for being here with us! 🎉⛵🙂
Thank you so much! It is very true, it is just our own expectations that are causing us the pain. Want to be south, but are here. If we just accept we are here for a little while I am sure we will be feeling better. Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
I'm happy that you guys are seeing some progress. I know this was days and days of work that we watched in twenty minutes, but I really admire all of the learning you're doing and your perseverance to get this done. I hope those parts get there soon. We are hoping to meet up with Bridget and Hunter at the end of February and hope you're there by then. I love seeing how you organize stuff in these small spaces. You two are a great team! Stay safe in the cold weather. Looking forward to next week's video.
Yes, slow but steady we will get through this, just like everything else we have had to in order to get to this point 🙂 We are also hoping we can meet up with them in February, can't wait to get some buddy boating in! 🙂 Will try to include some more organizing as we get to putting things away to start sailing again! Thanks so much for being here with us and hopefully see you on the water soon! ⛵🎉😊🍀
Congratulation from an old geezer DIY mechanical guy. I'm impressed that you were calm enough that you took time to think before you made a move and didn't break anything. Good work. Your tribulation make for a much better story. I always went with....I had plenty of time to work on it because I wasn't going anywhere till I got it fixed let it be a challenge. You made good use of spare sockets....gifting them to Davy Jones's locker. :)
Thank you for the kind words! That is kind of our attitude too, we just have to get this fixed if we want to keep going, so it will take the time it takes. I am pretty sure they are only spare sockets until they are the exact one that you need 😂 Always good to give the sea a bit of a gift once in a while lol Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
You guys are really getting a trial by fire into the boating life. The work and repairs will always be there, just do what you can to keep from having to do the same thing over again. I think Patrick needs to learn some sailing ditties that he can sing while hammering.
We really are! But I think it is just what happens in years 1-2, things just get really shaken down. I feel like some singing while hammering would be very welcome! Thanks so much for being here with us, it really does mean the world! 🎉⛵😊
You guys are doing great. Ya the cold can get a person down on a boat, but usually that can be fixed with the proper gear. A heater and the correct clothing can change everything.
Our diesel heater makes such a world of difference! Maybe it is being a bit stubborn, but hard to justify spending getting really nice cold weather gear when we plan to really spend time in warm places lol Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
If you can’t alter the outcome of an event why worry about it. Anxiety is a horrible thing to suffer from, my daughter suffers badly with it. Great video, I like the fact that you show us warts and all. Perseverance and patience will get most things done. I love Patrick McGivoring his way through. I honestly burst out laughing watching his socket dive through the air. Keep up your excellent work. 👍😎👍
Love that first sentence, so true! It wouldn't be as fun if we didn't show us messing things up, hurting ourselves, and launching stuff into the sea on accident lol. Michaela's video edit killed us as well watching that 😂 Thanks so much for being here with us on another week of adventure! ⛵🎉
When you get the new leg in place you should rebuild the old one you took off so it will be ready to swap out when the new one dies. This time be sure to use plenty of lube on it so it doesn't freeze up again.
That is exactly the plan! It would be fantastic if we could just be like, one low tide away from back in business! I think we will start heading south and then rebuild it as we go! Thanks so much for the advice and joining us on another week of adventures 🎉🙂⛵🍀🌅
Good to see Patrick using the tried and trusted process of brute force and duct tape! For most men these are the solutions to almost all of our problems 😂 I'm sure it must be difficult to see friends head south while you're busy with Thalia, but life is all about swings and roundabouts and so you may well find that you catch up if they have problems on the way. Maybe when hurricane season arrives perhaps you'll be able to head south instead of north? That way you can stay in warmer waters instead of having to head northwards to colder climes? Just curious but do you do daily gratitudes? It isn't always easy to see when you're in the thick of it but you have a great support group that surrounds you and, from what I see in the comments, a really positive audience that hopefully helps you keep your spirits up. So, ok you're not sailing, but you're able to spend useful time with other tasks inside the boat that wouldn't have taken place where you were busy sailing. Just remember you have all the time in the world with many years ahead of you. If you only have a short season south this year then so be it, but you've learnt some incredible lessons that many other sailors (including your friends) won't get, and you never know, maybe this delay now prevents you from being involved in a worse calamity further south that you miss for timing reasons. There's always a positive no matter what's going on. And happy 21st birthday to Patrick this week!! 😁
😂😂😂 Something to stick, something to unstick, what more could you ask for! I think you are onto something about heading more south, might make for a bit of a different adventure, and then be too hot instead of too cold lol We often try to sit down while we eat and chat about how we are feeling! Maybe daily gratitudes could be helpful, but I think even through all of this we have stayed pretty positive on average. Rough days of course, but that happens to everyone I think. This learning will pay dividends not only in just this drive leg, but also a ton of working with mechanics new and old. Even just from all of the talking I have with different folks to get through the problem, we have learned so much. You are right, with being in this for the long haul it will be well worth it to take the time to learn the lessons now. 😂 9th Anniversary of turning 21! We hope you are doing well Pete! Always so good to hear from you 🙂 Thanks for choosing to stick with us through the good and the bad! 🍀🎉⛵😎
Shout out to Patrick for #30!!! Happy belated birthday🎉! Nice looking cake Michaela 🎂you did a wonderful job, who says you can't bake a cake on a boat!! Looks like you're well on your way to getting Thalia up and moving again, I found this episode somewhat intriguing, you look like you've been doing this your whole 30yr life Patrick 😀.. Before you know it you'll be up and sailing to warmer parts! See ya next week..
Thank you so much! Feels a bit weird to be 30 but here we are, better late than never after all! We are certainly putting a lot of work into this, so hope to be fixed and back on the move soon, but it is a big project it turns out. I am glad you enjoyed this weeks episode! It is always a bit different when we have to go into repair mode, but that is just boat life for ya! Thank you so much for being with us on another week of adventure, we really do appreciate it a lot 🙂🎉⛵🍀
Guys, we all share your frustration, major boat repairs are a pain. I have to give credit to Patrick for doing all that work on the floor with the boat rocking all over. Up here in the Northeast, the boating season is very short, so having to deal with a repair over a couple of weeks is a good part of the summer, because, for a lot of us, we only get to be on our boats on the weekends. I really envy, if I can use that word, what you guys are doing. The only schedule you have is the schedule you make for yourself. Don't be down or depressed, I know you guys have had your ups and downs with this boat. However, everyone who has a boat goes through this, it is a boat. The important thing is that you support each other, which I know you do. Everything will work out, and you will be on your way soon, if you are not already. Oh, and Happy Birthday.
It seems to just be part of the boat life journey if you are in it for the long haul. Our summers were spent in the midwest near chicago, so we totally get the short seasons. We have made a ton of progress and will be getting going soon, you are right. Thank you so much for all of the kind words and encouragement, it really does mean the world to us! 🎉⛵
Happy birthday Patrick! The tiramisu looked amazing, my fav dessert too! Sucks to have to deal with the downsides in life but remember you have each other and this is just temporary. Hopefully by now you’re both relaxing in the sun and drinking margaritas 🤗
Thank you so much! It really turned out great especially considering it was our first time making it! It is really true that it is just temporary and we are making progress. No sun and margaritas yet, but we are getting closer. Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
We really enjoy your channel so much my hubby Chad has even taken to watching w/out me if necessary lol..... Sending good vibes, blessings, and love ❤❤ May God bless you always, keeping you safely afloat⛵ and put the wind in your sails🌬️ Thanks for sharing, you are doing a wonderful service for those who aren't able to get there ❤️❤️ ❤️❤️ I just adore how well you compliment one another, that's important to a healthy life😎 Sorry for rambling 🤗 Thank you, Love from Michigan Chad & Jamie
Aw thanks Chad and Jamie! Your kind words really mean a lot to us! We're so happy you're enjoying our channel. Hopefully we'll have some more happy videos with wind in our sails soon 🎉⛵ God bless
Yet another job well done. I save and label videos of yours that deal with this kind of stuff for the future. You guys maybe having these issues but every time you come out on top and they become great information to maybe go back to if need be. Much love guys and stay safe out there. Oh and Happy belated birthday Patrick!!!
Thank you Kourt! Make sure to label this one, "Smashed thumbs" 😂 might be a good reminder to not do it over and over again lol We are certainly learning a lot, some of it kind of specific, but also a lot of very general ways to work on things that I think will overall be very helpful not only to us, but also others. I can't wait for the day someone needs help with a bearing and I have 3 different ways to help pull them lol Thanks so much for joining us another week Kourt! ⛵🎉🙂🍀😎
@@patrickandmichaela 😂. Hopefully I won't have to smash my thumbs. I've collected a lot of M18/12 Milwaukee and hand tools through my career. Some were bought Because I was tired of smashing body parts that weren't used to being smashed😂
Watching UA-cam is a crew sport on Eoti. We were like .ah ah ah ah... noooooooo. When he sent the socket flying. There may have been a high-five and an exchange of legal tender between my twins. The sea has claimed a camera, phone, multiple pairs of sunglasses, a host of minor jewelry items and many screws, nuts, bolts, and tools. I used other have a 700lb magnet on the boat just for recovering stuff. After capturing a few bicycles under the boat we gave up on that. Y'all are doing amazing and thank you for the shout out. This stuff is NOT easy or for the faint of heart but you are doing quite well. These are the events that the stories of the future you tell around cruiser bonfires in the Bahamas will be made of. Keep going and enjoy the ride.
😂😂😂 Glad we could make someone some money! 😂 Seems like the drink will claim anything you have if you aren't careful! Having one of those magnet fishing magnets sounds like a lot of fun to just toss throughout an anchorage to find treasures. We really appreciate the kind words both here and on instagram, the cruising community really makes it bearable when things are going so wrong. Hope to see you on the water one day! Fair winds! ⛵🎉🌅🍀🙂
The trouble with all of us cruisers who don't have the budget to buy a newer boat is that the older boats, no matter how well built, invariably have a lot of problems/worn out gear to repair/replace - but I don't think there is a much more challenging project than rebuilding an old, aluminum outdrive such as you are doing. Without a machine shop and hydraulic press, those things are a buggar to get apart. So a "tip-of-my-top-hat" to you for persevering. Cruising life will get better. however it will also test your resolve - mightily. There will lots of good days - and lots of bad days. That is the cruising world.
Exactly. Can't buy a boat without getting into a lot of DIY work. This turned out to be quite the project, but we are learning a ton and appreciate that we are getting through it. Honestly, even with the bad days, wouldn't trade this life for an apartment 🙂 Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate having you here with us! 🎉⛵
Love your content! Never give up it will get better for sure. You two have got this! Great job Patrick, just understand you will never stop learning, but the experience comes. It’s ALL about the journey!!! You got this!
So glad to hear it! We will get through this, it just will take a little bit of time! We have a pretty good perspective on the whole thing I think. It really is all about the journey isnt it! Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Ha, it does help a little bit knowing that it isn't just cold here. But we are really looking forward to getting south. Just a bit more work to do and we will get there! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
Happy Birthday Patrick! 🎂🎉 Great job with deducing the problem and getting subject matter experts involved. Lots of respect for the patience and persistence you have for your situation and what it is taking to resolve. Great focus also for doing what it takes and wisdom gained from others about living the difficult in order to reap the good, lessons will pay off in ways never imagined. Thankful for you sharing your adventure as you do 💝
Thank you so much! 🍰 Appreciate the kind words! It can be pretty tiring working on projects like this where there is just absolutely so much to learn and figure out, but we are getting through it with tons of help from the community! It will be very neat to be able to help others with these drive legs when they are in the same spot! We really appreciate you being here with us on our adventure and encouraging us to keep going! ⛵🎉🙂
We bought our Prout Snogoose a couple of years ago and my oh my the reality of constant repairs! But we are still not giving up on her either because the days when it all works are just magical. Proud of you two for going after your new adventure and watching your videos wishing you the very best. Hope to see you on the water someday!
Honestly I think it is all boats! Couldn't agree more that it is worth it for those champagne sailing days! Thank you so much for the kind words and being part of our adventure! See you on the water! ⛵🎉
Chin up guys! You are handling all of this extremely well! We knew getting into this that everything is going to break right! We know the feeling... last week we had both sails rip and an overheated engine, which is still giving us issues. Not to mention the weather and everything else cruisers deal with. All we (you) can do is carry on! See you soon!
It is inevitable that every cruiser will need to go through a major repair eventually! We just caught ours in this initial shake down 🙂 Hope you can get your sails and engine repaired! Fair winds y'all! See you in the bahamas sooner rather than later! 🎉⛵
You guys are doing it! So the route may not be as planned, but it is all about the adventure right! I mean you could be stuck living in a huge cookie cutter apartment complex with long commutes to work 9-5 in a cubicle, can you imagine the hell that would be! Cherish the time together and the sunrise and sunset you get to enjoy each day out on the water.
It is indeed all about the adventure! You are so right, even with all of the headache we still would not trade it for our corporate jobs and expensive chicago apartment! Thanks so much for watching and giving us a bit of perspective! 🙂🎉⛵
In a lot of applications that bolts are seized and you heat them try this. Blaster and other oils will burn off when sprayed on hot parts. Use a crayon and let the wax melt down into the part. The wax won’t burn off like light oils will.
That is a really good idea, we definitely need to get some for when we have to deal with this colder water. I am hoping we can manage most of this repair from the dinghy or on a beach, but still figuring that part out! ⛵🎉
Nice to know someone on the other side of the world is cheering us on! Thanks so much for watching, we just love sharing what it is really like! We appreciate you! 🎉⛵
Love seeing you in Banks Channel! My old stomping grounds. Used to jump off that bridge behind you all the time. Hope you tried Tower 7 while you were there. Great food! Good luck in your journeys!
One tool that may have helped is a king pin press. It is similar to a c-clamp but has different size cups and presses to press pins out of steering knuckles. Harbor Freight will have this too.
You gotta stop that! Such a guy thing. I do like you two. Just muddling through on the way to a dream. It's the only way I know how to do it too. House and boat - so much for one woman to do. And living next to the ocean means the weather effects are always trying to overtake you/me. But otherwise no time pressure, just keep edging closer to the targets. I've realised we spend a lot of effort on to do lists, but very little on the completed stuff. So now I celebrate them in a little way. I just keep adding each little step to a notepad and then I'm amazed at how those pages are filling up. Tiny little dopamine hits! BTW Michaela you are looking so pretty on camera these days. Lucky guy Patrick! PS check out the delightful Betty on a Boat.
100% We certainly are trying to make the dream happen! Trying to keep things in perspective that we are in this for the long haul, so a couple months wont matter in the grand scheme of things. So glad to hear you enjoyed the drawings! Will check out Betty on a boat! Thank you so much for the kind words and checking out this weeks video, we really appreciate it! 🎉⛵
You guys are troopers !! Can you state the dates when you are videoing (?) I can’t tell if this is through the holidays , or into January ? How long have you been held up thus far ?? And once your repair is done what kind of timeline are you looking at to get to the Bahamas ? Thanks for sharing your adventures and pitfalls. Happy Birthday to you both . Patrick is a year younger then my own amazing son . it warms my heart to see the two of you living your life on your own terms ✨
Our videos are a couple weeks behind usually! Try to keep it more like 2-3 weeks, as 1-2 weeks gets a little stressful (it is where we are now lol) We have been held up like a month with this repair. Hoping that once we get it fixed we will be in the bahamas in like 2-3 weeks, but you never know. Thank you so much for watching, so glad we can warm your heart on a sunday afternoon 🙂🎉⛵
4:45 OMG you tricked me again! I thought for sure this was a segue into some advert for mental health counseling, as many UA-camrs do. Then it never came. Thanks for keeping it real (for now). Seriously, it's PTSD from videos from other UA-camrs. (Edit: 14:04 you got me again!).
😅 We just like to talk about how we are feeling! We are not trying to trick you on purpose. I can’t promise we will never have a sponsored video in the future, but we always mark them as including a paid promotion 😊Thanks for watching!
"it always works out in the end!" If it hasn't worked out??? Guess what! It isn't the END! HA I like that saying it's been around for ever! Then it was popularized by a movie several years back ... Timeless wisdom!
It really made a huge difference! I have read the same about MAP torches, but I also was reading it is hard to get the real MAP gas these days, its something in between which is less good. Might be wrong though! Thanks for the suggestion! ⛵🎉
Yes, have taken it apart and cleaned it a few times, even bought a replacement, but still having issues. May have to try again but not sure. Thanks for the advice and appreciate you watching! ⛵🎉
@patrickandmichaela I have 3 smaller yamahas (15 year old 8hp, 35 year old 15hp, and a new 30hp, all 2 strokes) and have also had bad fuel line bulbs and a bad connection on one gas tank and bad gas and bad spark plugs too. These are all easy and low cost fixes just start replacing one at a time to see if the issue is resolved.
I will say I have replaced the fuel bulb, lines, switch the orientation of the fuel tank, replaced spark plugs, carborator, and reed valve assembly. Getting bubbles on the sides of the crank case assembly, so thinking it isn't going to be something super simple.
@patrickandmichaela how about the spark plugs, and you have a CDI ignition module and a coil for the spark and an inductor under the pull starter rope on the top. 😁💦🛥️
It's funny to hear you complain about it being cold. You're not dressed for cold weather. I haven't been on my boat for a while. Waiting for the temperature to get back above freezing.
It's all relative I think! We grew up in chicago and were very used to the cold. Have spent the last 3 years spending winters in warm places so ditched all our cold weather gear. I think it is the northern europeans who say "There is no bad weather, only bad clothes". But the plan is to avoid winter 🙂 Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
That is what we keep telling ourselves! Just need to push through this rough patch and get down to the warm weather and clear waters 🙂 Thank you so much for watching! 🎉⛵
It does seem to be that way! I wonder if there is a better solution for keeping it out of there, because it seems to be a reoccurring problem! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
Thanks for the suggestion, I know a lot of people do that with these boats. I just don't think we are there yet. Feels like the same style of headache, but just a slightly different flavor. Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Patrick is a real trooper, and it's definitely been a learning experience! We unfortunately are not very ahead in our videos and are not yet on our way to the Bahamas but hopefully soon! Thanks for watching!
1000% We are really going the extra mile here, replacing all bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. Just want this thing in total tip top shape! Will be worth it in the end 🎉⛵
You need to use a proper hammer not a mallet. Get yourselves a lump hammer. A small jack hammer with a punch bit will often remove pins that are stuck.
So guys… just a humble suggestion. With a single engine craft, your dingy motor better be top notch. Why? It’s your only back up if your main motor fails. I have seen set ups where they have modified the boat to accept the dingy motor. This could work in a pinch. I’d hate to see a motor failure half way to the Bahamas, with zero back up. Boating is all about redundancies, having to Migiver in a pinch.
Couldn't agree more! We planned on actually replacing our dingy engine when we got to the bahamas, so it is a little painful that it has died basically when we planned to be there, but we are working to figure it out. Even without a mount for it, just hip tying would go a really long way. We really do try to have backups for everything, but being new to this we still have a long way to go to get there. Thanks so much for the advice and joining us on this weeks adventure! 🎉⛵
Might think about mounting an outboard mount on the back so that in an emergency you could power the cat with your dinghy motor. You are doing great with that leg repair. Cant believe you made it this far without a big hammer and duct tape!
I have thought about that, as I have seen many prouts and geminis with outboards, but I feel like it would be the same style of headache, just slightly different. Hoping we can get this squared away and have a good backup, then just keep going with what we have! And yeah! Always in need of a bigger hammer 🙂 The duct tape was more of a "now where did I put that!" kind of affair lol Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Sailing Rum Punch has a Playlist of her similar journey increasing her familiarization with Sailing. I enjoyed her series and it may give you an idea that may help. ua-cam.com/play/PL8ejUt1bjscLMoMdpXfmS63k9Fl6MXSV8.html .
Are there any videos you would like to see from us? We are continuing the repair and are getting things back together, but would love to break up the content with something fun! 🎉
When your not sailing - sailing channel viewers love watching boat repairs with ocean views mixed in. Thanks for sharing ⛵️ 👍
@@patrickandmichaela would love to see some videos of y'all having fun
I loved this episode, one of your best from my point of view. You'll get even more ASMR if you can show enough for us to understand how all the pieces of the drive leg fit together. Maybe re-assembly will be the time for that! A lot of people watch repairs to get the experience/knowledge without having to actually do the work.
@@bobbymcdonald2531 yeah same! We will get there lol
@@jmkikkawa I will give it a go! Thanks for the suggestion!
Would love to see you guys replace your anxiety and depression with hope and smiles!
Fair winds and following seas
You are telling us! haha. We are getting there, just a harder season of life right now, but we are making our way through. Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Kudos to Patrick from NEVER giving up…and to you Michaela to always seeing the light in the dark. Much better days ahead for sure. 👍
Thank you so much Vicki! We will get through this, just like everything else. Thanks so much for spending another week with us! 😊🎉⛵
We had a prout 37 .Good boats
They really are great aren't they! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
I am glad you show the “downs” to have a realistic view of what it can be like.
Of course! We try to show it all, if for no other reason than we wouldn't have anything else to show! But I do think it helps give people a more wholesome view of boat life, not always just floating around and enjoying beaches! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
I’m so impressed with your patience!! And that you did this yourself rather than asking for help!! Great job!!
Thank you! We figure if we have to do it again in the future it will be better that we know how to do it, rather than having to find a mechanic. Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
The most difficult projects always make for the most rewarding. You're nailing (hammering) it.
Ah, very well said! It will feel great when we have gotten through this! Thanks so much for the encouragement and hanging with us another week! ⛵🎉
Thank you! 🎉⛵
@@patrickandmichaelaa socket breakerbar would hold your socket while you hit it.😊 An impact driver will make moving bolts much easier.
Hang in there guys you are both doing great!
Thank you so much! We need all the encouragement we can get! Appreciate you being here!
Happy Birthday, Patrick! You both are enduring so much yet your smiles are beautiful!
Thank you so much Margie! Hope you are doing well! 🎉⛵🙂🌅
Y'all are gonna get through this bit of rough seas and onto calmer waters soon enough! Keep those heads held high and moving forward, you're doing a great job. ❤❤❤❤❤
We will get there! Thank you so much for coming and visiting with us while we are stuck! ❤⛵🎉
Happy belated birthday, Patrick! Press on !
Thank you so much! We have no plans of stopping! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
Excellent progress Patrick...proud of you young man! That is a daunting task even with a machine shop at my beckon call!
That is really kind of you to say, thank you! We are trying to make it work with what we got, but there certainly have been some tool purchases to keep things going 😂 Thank you so much for watching! ⛵🎉
@patrickandmichaela my pleasure!

Hey guys glad to see u today. 😊
Glad we could be here to share with you! Thank you for watching! 🎉⛵
Working hard! Hope it comes together and you get your freedom back soon!
It has been quite the project but we are getting there! Can't wait to get our freedom back and be out on the water! Thank you so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Happy Birthday Patrick! You guys are doing great! And yes, boat life is a slower life (or should be). No pressure except what you put on yourselves.
Thank you so much! It is very true, it is just our own expectations that are causing us the pain. Want to be south, but are here. If we just accept we are here for a little while I am sure we will be feeling better. Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Great work both! ❤
Patrick, I think the phrase you're looking for is, "Brute force and ignorance"...works every time!
Yes, that seems to be about right 😂 Thank you so much for the encouragement and joining us on another adventure! ⛵🎉
Glad to see you choose a dead blow hammer.
It seemed to work pretty well! Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
I love watching whatever you care to share about your sailing journey!
Thank you!! We try to share the good and the bad sides! ❤️
You two are doing great. Your perseverance is inspiring.
Thank you for the encouragement! We are certainly trying our best! Thank you for being here! 🎉⛵
hang in there, we love you guys, polar bear hugs from Canada!
⛄❄🙂 we are trying to keep our heads up! Thank you so much for all of the support! Stay warm! We really appreciate you being here with us! 🎉⛵
I’m back heading south. I hope to meet up again. Bruce on life’s a Breeze.
Hey Bruce! So glad to hear you are on your way south! See you on the water hopefully sooner rather than later! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
WOW, what a great video. Way to go both of you and Patrick for just sticking with it. You both have come along way!
Thanks so much that is really nice of you to say!! We appreciate the support! ❤️🤙⛵️
@@paulstephens5229 I second that 😁 nicely put.... I also cracked up when the socket jumped ship 🤣🤣🤣
For most men these are the solutions to almost all of our problems 😂
I'm sure it must be difficult to see friends head south while you're busy with Thalia, but life is all about swings and roundabouts and so you may well find that you catch up if they have problems on the way.
I think you are onto something about heading more south, might make for a bit of a different adventure, and then be too hot instead of too cold lol
We often try to sit down while we eat and chat about how we are feeling!
Happy birthday Patrick and that cake looks amazing Michaela
Thank you so much! For a first Tiramisu it turned out absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for joining us on this weeks adventure! ⛵🎉
@patrickandmichaela wouldn't miss it 😁❤️
Happy birthday Patrick!

😂😂😂
Winter’s are hard. You will get south soon and it will pay off. It’s cold in Florida right now if that makes you feel any better. 😊
Ha, it does help a little bit knowing that it isn't just cold here. But we are really looking forward to getting south. Just a bit more work to do and we will get there! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
That tiramisu looks so good! Props to you both for pushing through, hopefully you'll be back out there soon! ⛵💙
It really was so good! Will have to recreate it when we meet up down south!
Keep up the good vids. The tape is actually genious
Thank you so much for watching! We really appreciate it! ⛵🎉
In a lot of applications that bolts are seized and you heat them try this. Blaster and other oils will burn off when sprayed on hot parts. Use a crayon and let the wax melt down into the part. The wax won’t burn off like light oils will.
That is a very good tip, had no idea! Thank you so much for sharing and joining us on this weeks adventure! 🎉⛵
FYI, get a wetsuit to keep you warm when getting back in the water to put it back on.
That is a really good idea, we definitely need to get some for when we have to deal with this colder water. I am hoping we can manage most of this repair from the dinghy or on a beach, but still figuring that part out! ⛵🎉
Someone once said:
Boat life is like a series of boat repairs on end, but in beautiful places!
100% although I think we could find a more exotic place than North Carolina haha Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
You guys rock, love your warts and all style of stories, cheers from australia
Nice to know someone on the other side of the world is cheering us on! Thanks so much for watching, we just love sharing what it is really like! We appreciate you! 🎉⛵
Love seeing you in Banks Channel! My old stomping grounds. Used to jump off that bridge behind you all the time. Hope you tried Tower 7 while you were there. Great food! Good luck in your journeys!
That is awesome! Will have to check out Tower 7! Thanks so much for watching! ⛵🎉
Learning as you go along , great work guys 👏👏
That has been a very common theme for this last year, but we are still at it! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
Happy Birthday , Merry Christmas and happy New year.. love the channel.❤
Thank you so much on all accounts! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well! We really appreciate you being here with us, thank you! ⛵🎉
One tool that may have helped is a king pin press. It is similar to a c-clamp but has different size cups and presses to press pins out of steering knuckles. Harbor Freight will have this too.
Interesting! Will have to check it out! Thanks for the advice and checking out this weeks video! 🎉⛵
Can you state the dates when you are videoing (?)
I can’t tell if this is through the holidays , or into January ?
Happy Birthday Patrick and Michaela the hair is nice
Thanks so much from the both of us!
Your hair looks great. Keep moving forward guy.
Thank you so much, both for the compliments and the encouragement! Appreciate you being here with us! ⛵🎉
"it always works out in the end!"
If it hasn't worked out??? Guess what! It isn't the END! HA
I like that saying it's been around for ever! Then it was popularized by a movie several years back ... Timeless wisdom!
Honestly that is so good! Just have to keep going and we will get there 🙂 Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Great video yall
Thank you so much! Great Comment 🙂⛵🎉
that dead blow hammer was the right choice. grab yourself a MAP gas torch, while not the best its heads and tails above propane
It really made a huge difference! I have read the same about MAP torches, but I also was reading it is hard to get the real MAP gas these days, its something in between which is less good. Might be wrong though! Thanks for the suggestion! ⛵🎉
A suggestion for new merch.
A t-shirt that says, " I got to stop that". 😂
Y'all hang in there, it'll be worth it. 👍🏼
😂😂 Maybe with a nice bruised thumb on it 😂 You are right, we will get through this, just need to be patient in the repair 🙂 Thank you for watching! 🎉⛵
Absolutely! I know plenty people who'd buy that for their clutsy partners. ("gotta")
Will have to see if we can make it happen 😂
Usually small outboard engine issues are carburetor related... Have you taken apart the carb and cleaned it?
A day on the Chesapeake ain’t so bad. Hang in there.
Very true. Thanks so much for watching! ⛵🎉
The journey is the destination right?
That is what we keep telling ourselves! Just need to push through this rough patch and get down to the warm weather and clear waters 🙂 Thank you so much for watching! 🎉⛵
fishing lines kill more seals than anything on outdrives
It does seem to be that way! I wonder if there is a better solution for keeping it out of there, because it seems to be a reoccurring problem! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
At least that hammer payed for itself best thing you bought
It is kind of crazy how low some of the stuff at harbor freight is, definitely paid for itself lol Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
You have it apart dude, change seal
@@charleschambers2045 changing all bearings and seals actually! Figure might as well with it all open! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵️
Good job, suggesting you consider changing the drive leg for an outboard that can be turned using ropes.
Thanks for the suggestion, I know a lot of people do that with these boats. I just don't think we are there yet. Feels like the same style of headache, but just a slightly different flavor. Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Maybe an electric one? @@patrickandmichaela
Maybe! They are still pretty expensive though! Maybe if we can get a good sponsorship 😂
Man, Patrick seems very determined and extremely patient. Hoping you guys have already overcome this issue, and have started to the Bahamas.
Patrick is a real trooper, and it's definitely been a learning experience! We unfortunately are not very ahead in our videos and are not yet on our way to the Bahamas but hopefully soon! Thanks for watching!
So true. Patient and calm, no temper. Green flags there.
Replace ALL of the rubber ",bits and bobs"
1000% We are really going the extra mile here, replacing all bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. Just want this thing in total tip top shape! Will be worth it in the end 🎉⛵
14:22 I think your not talking is fine. Obviously you have been through a struggle. And you recorded Patrick working.
It has been a bit brutal but we are getting through it! Thanks so much for watching! ⛵🎉
o jeez
I can't read this without it sounding like bob odenkirk in my head haha Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
You need to use a proper hammer not a mallet. Get yourselves a lump hammer. A small jack hammer with a punch bit will often remove pins that are stuck.
Yeah, a couple people have mentioned that. The more you know I guess! Thanks for the advice and joining us on this weeks adventure! 🙂⛵🎉
Maybe invite some friends to sail with you.
Hopefully we can make that happen in the near future! 🤞❤️
@@patrickandmichaelaan outboard will be out of the water completely unless actually motoring. They last forever.
That is a good point, hopefully ours will last quite some time once we get things squared away as well, but always a good backup option!
💐👍👋NZ🇳🇿🍻twa
