Because in the 3rd episode it’s unveiled that Mallory had more info than she let on, info that could have saved Becca’s life. So at this point Butcher is done with Mallory completely.
I love how they gave soldier boy this in-depth backstory. Having his rich father neglect him and call him a disappointment, with nobody else there to support him, drove him to be this bitter and tough guy but he tells it like it is because in his mind that’s what his father did for him.
Soldier boy was more in the right than Butcher he literally only did as he was asked and never betrayed them and then Ryan comes and all of a sudden he's gotta go instead of homelander?
And then he did the same thing to Homelander, because not only was he keeping his word to Butcher, but he thought it was the right thing to do for his son.
Worst part is, when he finally faced his own son, he found himself staring down at that very same disappointment that his own father must've seen in him - A pathetic excuse for a human being. Deep down, he knows that he isn't even worthy of his own respect.
It’s more complicated than that . When homelander say he is him soldier boy doesn’t deny on contrary. Him saying what he say to homelander is him recognizing what he is and taking responsibility by ending homelander.
The way soldier boy said " a real man wouldn't have cheated " in this line his eyes were so much deep . That's the real acting guys it gave me goosebumps
I know that probably no one cares but I think its great to visualize what your face is supposed to look like for the scene and then your body does the rest. Jensen is a great actor

Do you know why he needs to come back next season? Its because its Jensen Ackles playing SB. You don't just use someone like him once. Loads of people who never watched The Boys before only watched S3 because of him.
Really shows that Soldier Boy, Butcher and even Homelander are very similar: Soldier Boy was neglected by his father because he never lived up to his father’s standards. Butcher was neglected the proper love that a father should give his son in the name of making Butcher tougher. Homelander was neglected entirely. No one there to raise him properly to give him love or to guide him to doing right. All three of these men were never given the proper upbringing that every son truly deserves. To have a father to love them, guide them, and inspire them. It’s why Superman is the man that he is.
Him being raised by the Kent's then his own father later in life made Clark such a good person that he nerfed himself. He knew how easily he could become a tyrant and nobody could fold him.

These two contrast each other. While Butcher's old man abused him physically, Soldier Boy's did it mentally and emotionally. Words can really break down a child. Especially if it's from their parents.
Soldierboy is one of the best anti-villains I've seen in a long time. He has to be back next season. Edit: For those asking, "An anti-villain is a character who has heroic personality traits or goals but is ultimately the bad guy in this story." - Studiobinder
On a different video, they were interviewing multiple cast mates as well as the show runner and I think one of the things they brought up was how they’re leaving Soldier Boys ending open, incase they do decide to bring him back. I sure hope they do.

Jensen's portrayal of Soldier Boy has been so fantastic this season. I really really hope to see him again in season 4. He brought so much depth to the character.
When Butcher took Compound-V, his new powers rivaled Homelander, the one thing he wanted more than anything. When Hughie took it, his powers rivaled A-Train. When Soldier Boy took it, he became the most powerful man on Earth because all he ever wanted was the love and respect of his father.
Compound V doesn't give you the powers you want, even subconsciously. They're completely random. Most supes get their Compound V injected when they're still in the womb, so they can't even form coherent thoughts yet. They don't want anything; They don't even know what it's like to want something yet. It's just a genetic lottery pool. But it is a neat coincidence you pointed out, I'll grant you that. Neat, but still just a coincidence.

Man what great acting. That look from 1:58 - 2:00 says so much about his character. Tough as nails but that second of vulnerability, having another human being seeing him teary-eyed scared the hell out of him, the good ole crack in the armor. I think Soldier boy was super well done this season. He's like an anti-captain America, embodying everything harmful to men from that time period. The nuance was on point
Prequels tend not to work, and Soldier Boy's story before being captured doesn't seem compelling enough for a series. He was a marketing tool who was an arrogant, but dominantly powerful supe. If they can make it work, it would be fun to see how.
Eh, I don't know. I was disappointed with what they did with Peacemaker and keeping him alive. The tone shift of his character was too much for me.and I would not want Soldier boy going down the same route.
soldier boy's father was not abusive, he was just disappointed with how his son turned out to be, a literally cheater who took a shortcut to become a man.
Soldier boy's eyes while he is talking about his father are so great, you can tell his pain and resenment to his old man. And the "A real man wouldn't had cheated" was the cherry on top, along side the delivery and the pause where he got lost for a moment.
It's because Soldier boy hates himself so seeing his son turn out just like him was the ultimate disappointment. Soldier boy wanted to raise his children to be better than him.

SB's talk is genuine. He really wanted to talk to someone, a friend. When I say to my mom that I don't have any friends or something similar she says why do you need friends or you can talk to us, we are your friends. I feel like sometimes you want to to chill with someone and talk to them instead of parents, someone close to your age. To talk about things you can't or don't want to talk with parents. Being alone and to be a disappointment is really bad. I remember when I got high or full marks in high school and brought them to my parents my mom usually would've said that is ok and my dad wouldn't bother or say anything but when I got a bad grade, everyone would've bashed me because of it and told me that I'm a disappointment so I hid them from my parents. I always wanted to make people happy and help others but when people take advantage of your kindness and hurt you, you slowly descend into hating people and being bad. Sometimes it's the world that creates the monster
The fact that both Homelander and Soldier Boy, the two strongest beings in that universe, respect Butcher as an equal - speaks volumes about his personality.

Soldier boy is the most consistent super and the most consistent character, he's the man that get's the job done. He doesn't slack around, hope he returns same as Noir and they get some character development.
I speak from experience, my parents did the same to me. Gaslight included, they say i blame others for my problems really. Even though they can't even see their own neglect.
I think the showrunners made him more likeable and charismatic than they intended to. Now a lot of people (me included) love him and want him back. He is for sure a horrible person, but so is Butcher; Soldier Boy has done nothing Butcher hasn't done or could have done before, and he is way less pathetic than Homelander.
No one talks about the emotional intelligence and introspection Soldier Boy displayed in the finale. When he looks at Homelander, he finally realizes what his father told him all those years ago was correct. And this is why I want a Soldier Boy redemption arc.

My dad was a bodybuilder in the 70's. He constantly came in second place during competitions and would always say the winners were on steroids. I always asked him why he never just did them and always told he didn't want to use crutches and that a real man can't really prove himself that way. He still lifts weights today and refuses to wear those tight weight lifting shirts. I sympathize with Soldier Boy's dad.
Man, watching those two act against each other is incredible. Both underrated talents chewing scenery to the best of their ability. It's a joy to watch.
I love how in this show no matter how much of a bad person someone is you can clearly see where all that negative behavior started it is so complex about human interactions with reasons, causes and effects of everything in their life
Butcher had no reason to fight with soldier boy. He could've just told soldier boy to wait till Ryan is out of the way. I really felt like soldier boy was the only guy who genuinely bonded with butcher.
I always found it absurd when parents call their children a disapointment. Like, dude, you raised him, it was your duty to shape something out of your child, and you say that it's become a disapointment? It is either you failed as a parent, or you created that disapointment by yourself.
Do you think children always follow what their parents want and they have no agency of their own ? There are so many cases where despite parents raising them well, they turn out to be disappointments.
@@magik97I think it's really easy to think that if a parent thinks they raised their child right but the child turns out to be a "disappointment", that it's the child's fault. But in the end the child & all its decisions it took in life are a direct result of the parent's choice to give birth to them. It may sound very one-sided but I really think that to bring a new life! in this world must bring with it immense responsibility.
Of all the disappointing things that happened in the season finale, everything that Soldier Boy did was never one of them. He was amazingly well written. Both he and Antony Starr better get some Emmy nominations I stg.
Of all the Supes, I’m happy they changed, I’m happy it’s Soldier Boy. In the comics, you couldn’t wait to see Billy and crew get rid of him, but here Soldier Boy is sympathetic and weirdly likable.

This is why I like Soldier Boy so much in this show. He has this very human side to him. He's jacked up because of the time he grew up in and the type of father he had. Butcher has a horrible father and even Homelander acknowledges the reason why he's so messed up is because he had no human contact. He was raised in a lab. Soldier Boy needs his own series set in WW2 leading up to his capture.

That was butcher’s character arc the whole season. He’s a hypocrite, it shows in this scene but most importantly, it shows when he took temp v that he is also an unchecked, violent man with power like most of the supes

On a different video, they were interviewing multiple cast mates as well as the show runner and I think one of the things they brought up was how they’re leaving Soldier Boys ending open, incase they do decide to bring him back. I sure hope they do.

@@Nemenis The villain wants to be bad, want to hurt and make suffer for his own convenience. The antihero wants what he wants, usually they go for his personal business (Making some kind of justice in the middle) But they don't use the right or "Classical-Goodloking" methods
The levels of parallels and the dichotomies between Billy , SB & HL and their relationships with their fathers and the paths they took in life + who they became are truly higher level writing
Whole season was about boys having daddy issues. MM,Hughie,frenchie,butcher SB and homelander
The writing in the show gets mediocre sometimes, even stagnates, but for the most part its pretty solid.

Jensen's portrayal of Soldier Boy has been so fantastic this season. I really really hope to see him again in season 4. He brought so much depth to the character.

When Butcher took Compound-V, his new powers rivaled Homelander, the one thing he wanted more than anything. When Hughie took it, his powers rivaled A-Train. When Soldier Boy took it, he became the most powerful man on Earth because all he ever wanted was the love and respect of his father.
A- Train isn't the only speedster
Compound V doesn't give you the powers you want, even subconsciously. They're completely random. Most supes get their Compound V injected when they're still in the womb, so they can't even form coherent thoughts yet. They don't want anything; They don't even know what it's like to want something yet. It's just a genetic lottery pool. But it is a neat coincidence you pointed out, I'll grant you that. Neat, but still just a coincidence.

I have to marvel at the consistency of SB and the writing team. I feel like he was the glue of this season, he should be a full timer on the show moving forward. Glad he's not dead.

Man what great acting. That look from 1:58 - 2:00 says so much about his character. Tough as nails but that second of vulnerability, having another human being seeing him teary-eyed scared the hell out of him, the good ole crack in the armor. I think Soldier boy was super well done this season. He's like an anti-captain America, embodying everything harmful to men from that time period. The nuance was on point

You can see that he has tears in his eyes when he talks about the way his father treated him. Jensen is such a talented actor i swear

Prequels tend not to work, and Soldier Boy's story before being captured doesn't seem compelling enough for a series. He was a marketing tool who was an arrogant, but dominantly powerful supe. If they can make it work, it would be fun to see how.

Soldier boy was definitely an unexpectedly awesome character. This season definitely made you swing back and forth about who you cared for/route for.
I’m ok not bringing him back in this story. Give the man his own show, about him coming up as a new hero. I’d watch that in a heartbeat.
While I definitely want to see him back next season I'd be right there with you watching his back story!
Eh, I don't know. I was disappointed with what they did with Peacemaker and keeping him alive. The tone shift of his character was too much for me.and I would not want Soldier boy going down the same route.

Soldier boy's eyes while he is talking about his father are so great, you can tell his pain and resenment to his old man.
And the "A real man wouldn't had cheated" was the cherry on top, along side the delivery and the pause where he got lost for a moment.

It's because Soldier boy hates himself so seeing his son turn out just like him was the ultimate disappointment. Soldier boy wanted to raise his children to be better than him.

SB's talk is genuine. He really wanted to talk to someone, a friend. When I say to my mom that I don't have any friends or something similar she says why do you need friends or you can talk to us, we are your friends. I feel like sometimes you want to to chill with someone and talk to them instead of parents, someone close to your age. To talk about things you can't or don't want to talk with parents. Being alone and to be a disappointment is really bad. I remember when I got high or full marks in high school and brought them to my parents my mom usually would've said that is ok and my dad wouldn't bother or say anything but when I got a bad grade, everyone would've bashed me because of it and told me that I'm a disappointment so I hid them from my parents. I always wanted to make people happy and help others but when people take advantage of your kindness and hurt you, you slowly descend into hating people and being bad. Sometimes it's the world that creates the monster
The fact that both Homelander and Soldier Boy, the two strongest beings in that universe, respect Butcher as an equal - speaks volumes about his personality.

Soldier boy is the most consistent super and the most consistent character, he's the man that get's the job done. He doesn't slack around, hope he returns same as Noir and they get some character development.
The psychology of parenting neglect goes a long way. Never ceases to amaze me how the cycle continues.
I speak from experience, my parents did the same to me. Gaslight included, they say i blame others for my problems really. Even though they can't even see their own neglect.
It's because he respects Butcher. A strong, masculine, ruthless man as he is. It makes sense.

Love the fact that Soldier boy tearing up a bit there. It shows his vulnerability and humanness. Great job making him relatable and likable.
He was a real man. Neglected his own desires to keep his word to Butcher.
I think the showrunners made him more likeable and charismatic than they intended to. Now a lot of people (me included) love him and want him back. He is for sure a horrible person, but so is Butcher; Soldier Boy has done nothing Butcher hasn't done or could have done before, and he is way less pathetic than Homelander.
No one talks about the emotional intelligence and introspection Soldier Boy displayed in the finale. When he looks at Homelander, he finally realizes what his father told him all those years ago was correct. And this is why I want a Soldier Boy redemption arc.

Soldier Boy is the best character on the show and it isn't even close.
My dad was a bodybuilder in the 70's. He constantly came in second place during competitions and would always say the winners were on steroids. I always asked him why he never just did them and always told he didn't want to use crutches and that a real man can't really prove himself that way. He still lifts weights today and refuses to wear those tight weight lifting shirts. I sympathize with Soldier Boy's dad.
Man, watching those two act against each other is incredible. Both underrated talents chewing scenery to the best of their ability. It's a joy to watch.
Bring Soldier Boy back. He's the best and consistent character. Plus Jensen Ackles rocks.

I think Soldier Boy was the mosy consistent character in the season. Even despite Homelander being his child he still was willing to keep his word.
I love how in this show no matter how much of a bad person someone is you can clearly see where all that negative behavior started it is so complex about human interactions with reasons, causes and effects of everything in their life
Soldier Boy did everything he said he was going to do and was betrayed yet again.
Butcher had no reason to fight with soldier boy. He could've just told soldier boy to wait till Ryan is out of the way.
I really felt like soldier boy was the only guy who genuinely bonded with butcher.

I always found it absurd when parents call their children a disapointment. Like, dude, you raised him, it was your duty to shape something out of your child, and you say that it's become a disapointment? It is either you failed as a parent, or you created that disapointment by yourself.
They don't take responsibility for their own mistakes
Do you think children always follow what their parents want and they have no agency of their own ? There are so many cases where despite parents raising them well, they turn out to be disappointments.
@@magik97I think it's really easy to think that if a parent thinks they raised their child right but the child turns out to be a "disappointment", that it's the child's fault. But in the end the child & all its decisions it took in life are a direct result of the parent's choice to give birth to them. It may sound very one-sided but I really think that to bring a new life! in this world must bring with it immense responsibility.
Of all the disappointing things that happened in the season finale, everything that Soldier Boy did was never one of them. He was amazingly well written. Both he and Antony Starr better get some Emmy nominations I stg.

Of all the Supes, I’m happy they changed, I’m happy it’s Soldier Boy. In the comics, you couldn’t wait to see Billy and crew get rid of him, but here Soldier Boy is sympathetic and weirdly likable.

This is why I like Soldier Boy so much in this show. He has this very human side to him. He's jacked up because of the time he grew up in and the type of father he had. Butcher has a horrible father and even Homelander acknowledges the reason why he's so messed up is because he had no human contact. He was raised in a lab. Soldier Boy needs his own series set in WW2 leading up to his capture.

Ain’t it very funny how butcher said homelander isn’t his son but ryan isn’t butchers son, Ryan is Homelanders son and was pretty much raised in a test tube as well every thing butcher said to soldier boy applied to him as well which is why I’m very surprised the end turned out they way it did.
It seems he loves his wife that much.
That was butcher’s character arc the whole season. He’s a hypocrite, it shows in this scene but most importantly, it shows when he took temp v that he is also an unchecked, violent man with power like most of the supes
