Couple of tiny tips from an ex Taco Bell employee/mildly inspiring cook. 1. Rinse your onions before cutting them. This should eliminate the fumes. 2. When putting the ingredients on the tortilla, do so on the furthest 2/3 of the tortilla rather than directly in the middle. This allows you to drag the ingredients into the middle, resulting in a better mix and, ultimately, a better ratio of each ingredient per bite.

Taco Bell's gotten too expensive, and they don't give you too much. We're pissed about their offerings, used to be so good. Now, we can't hardly eat (each of us) for less than 10 bucks each. @@humphreyskitchenofficial Funny, I came back to your video on 6-13-2024, and even more glad that you showed us this. Because we went yesterday to Taco Bell, and it was almost $27.xx ... I agree your burrito 🌯 is better than Taco 🌮 Bell’s 🔔. Eons ago (1970-71) I worked at Taco Bell. Back then the food was cooked on site. The beans 🫘 were dry, soaked overnight and cooked in sort of a pressure cooker. Back then the beans were thicker, much thicker than now. A bean 🫘 burrito 🌯 got 2 scoops of beans, essentially almost 2 cups. The rest of the contents were chopped onions, picked by hand, about an ounce of shredded (on site, in machine we cleaned 🧼 daily) cheese and a ladle of red sauce. The red sauce was red chili 🌶️ sauce with the same consistency as enchilada sauce, but with some seeds. The burritos 🌯 were folded to have one end open. Now Taco Bell gives you a huge flour tortilla with 1 scoop of runny beans
Yep, We are aging ourselves here. I worked at one of the last Taco Bells in Nashville TN to make their refried beans from scratch. I remember making the bean from scratch a couple times before we switched to the stuff in the bag that is warmed up. As they say "Those were the days!"
Pro-tip - this recipe is on point however, you can use bacon fat and skip the lard and smoke paprika, use sweet paprika instead. Also, burritos come raw or partially cooked. Always warm them up because they need to be cooked! BB's off the Taco Bell 99 cent menu were always my favorite. Pico sauce, which is basically cilantro, tomatoes and onions kicks it up a notch but isn't mandatory. I've taken it another step further and made refried beans. Pinto beans cooked in chicken broth, then refired in bacon fat with a little garlic and chili powder are really good, but canned works as well. Love this video anyways because bean burritos are an excellent comfort food.
ohh we keep all of that around the house except enchilada sauce, but that's easy to make. This would make a nice change from regular bean burritos (cause we eat a lot of those). Thank you for this!

Why would anyone's taste buds think taco bell bean burritos are anywhere near even edible?! The beans are made terribly and have the consistency of mush. And to make matters worse, come mandatory with diced raw uncooked onions! 👎. Where'd taco bell come up with the most unauthentic way to cook and serve beans? Certainly not from Mexico (yes, there might be would a bowl of onions on the table, but ONLY if you wanted to add on yours, not the whole community!). Go to Del Taco instead for beans that taste like homemade and still have some texture (from the beans, not a bunch of raw onion). Though I do have to suggest request light on the cheese or it'll be a cheese and bean burrito, instead of the other way around.
Yes they do, but if you read from the Rosarita website you'll find that there is less than 2% lard in their beans. I'm using a 16 ounce can so that would come out to less than a tablespoon of lard. Most recipes call for 2+ tablespoons of bacon fat or lard per pound of beans. So I'm not adding anymore than most people. LOL! Thanks for the comment.😄
@@humphreyskitchenofficial Here in south Texas, the Mexicans and the Hispanics use a little butter (real butter) & bacon grease rather than lard to make their refried beans. It is pretty good. Ok so pork fat is lard and the traditional rosarita refried beans already have lard in them. The thing I'm most interested in is the enchilada sauce recipe!
It's Taco Bell, not a 5 Star Michelin restaurant.
Couldn't have said it better.
Ur the piggy
At times I am. Don't judge me....lol
@@humphreyskitchenofficial great vid! 😝
I used to work for Taco Bell. Don't eat their "food".
Yeah!, Make these instead. Lol!
those beans have lard in them already. you dont need to add more lard lol.
Lol anything is better than taco crap 😂😂
No offense, but anything is better than Taco Bell.
None taken. These are pretty tasty though.
@@humphreyskitchenofficial Here in south Texas, the Mexicans and the Hispanics use a little butter (real butter) & bacon grease rather than lard to make their refried beans. It is pretty good. I’m not sure what Taco Bell puts in their food but I always feel ill after I eat their food. And here in south Texas, even the worst Mexican restaurants are still pretty good.
Tao is obsolete their food is now awful!
Not sure what you're saying but I hope you try my recipe. You just my like it.
Too much work.
Whenever you read but better, it ain't worth your time.
But you had time to leave a response. Thank you
simple recipe that’s definitely worth my time 😊
@@vintage_peace Thank you! Enjoy!
Avoid lard / pig fat if you value your health. can use other things
Lots of vegetarian refried beans of just make your own.
Everything in moderation I say. Avocado oil works great also.
Gotta have sour cream😊
Made this for my family and we loved it! Tysm :) Definitely gonna be making this more often !
Glad you liked it!!
Ok so pork fat is lard and the traditional rosarita refried beans already have lard in them. The thing I'm most interested in is the enchilada sauce recipe! I always get Taco Bell bean burritos with extra sauce on the side if you get in inside it pours out the bottom if you get it on the side you can pour it on top or dunk it in
Correct, most canned refried beans have lard. If you're wondering why I use more it's because I want to taste it.
As far as enchilada sauce we will have a video up within the next week or so. Thanks for watching!
@@humphreyskitchenofficial By the way, 'Old ElPaso sells a canned enchilada sauce in hot, mild and a "green" version. I make enchiladas fairly frequently and stock up on the sauce.😋
Yes, Rosaritas is definitely the best canned refried beans.
sour cream with mine mmm
That's another great way to have them. Awesome!
And avocado or guacamole
Ill tell you a trick put an eckrich hotdog or sausage in your beans and mash it up in Beans > then its better .
It's worth a try.
Can you use bacon grease rather than lard?
Yep, Using bacon fat is very popular.
Better than Taco Bell, that's not difficult.
Wouldn't take much to make better taco bell burritos from the restaurants around here 😂. We have to tear off the edges of the burrito because it's crunchy, the beans are so thick you get tired of chewing, they barely use any cheese and by the time you're halfway through it all you feel is regret 😂🤢.
I know what you mean. We don't go to Taco Bell anymore. It's just not worth it. Like most fast food.
Taco bell got too expensive and when they got rid of the mexican pizza, and the enchiroto enchilada that all did it for me no more taco bell and they also got rid of the best tacos@@humphreyskitchenofficial
@@humphreyskitchenofficialYeah, TB's gotten too expensive, and they don't give you too much. We're pissed about their offerings, used to be so good.
You are certainly not shy with the lard.
You know those "traditional" beans already contain lard and salt, thars what makes them "traditional". I guess you cna never have too much lard and salt, though.
It's best to look at the ingredients on their website for this product. The salt and lard I add is on par with homemade from dry beans. People comment but they actually don't know the facts. I'm all about facts.. Share please!
