An old lady at our church gave me and my husband one of the old olive crockpots with a glass lid (I'm sure it was used) as a wedding gift 14 years ago. It is still in excellent shape!
My Mom still had hers in sunset orange from her wedding in 197...3? Anyway, she *JUST* had to replace it in 2021 because the cord had some wires exposed. It worked so great!
I'm a OTR truck driver and I am away from home 9 months out of the year, so cooking smart is very important to me. My $19 Crock Pot from Walmart is my best friend because I use it all the time and it hasn't let me down in the 4 years since I bought it, it makes cooking in the truck super easy and it always turns out great. I love your channel and use many of your recipes
I like South African chicken, but that might be because I'm South African lol. Tbh though there is nothing uniquely South African about that dish. As for a name, maybe Sunday chicken, as a nod to the South African 'seven colours' Sunday meal.
I also thought it might be the colours. Here in Germany we have a popular cake called "Russian pinch cake", there's nothing Russian about it. 😄🙈 It's still delicious, though.
Also, I am loving the "If I stay here for a bit does it get awkward?" and absolutely love the fact that you told us what you did wrong with a dish! Thank you for being real and for your fabulous content!!!!
So I made the tortellini soup for supper tonight. Super easy. I had to substitute the heavy whipping cream for half and half because that’s what I had. To church it up I also added Italian seasoning and 2 bay leaves during the cooking process along with about a cup of shredded parm at the end. Direct quote from my 10 year old picky eater: “This taste like a rich person’s soup. Like it should be in a fancy restaurant that you pay $20 or something.” 🤣☠️ My 18 month old also ate a large portion. Great recipe and apparently I’m going to have to make it for my son’s next birthday dinner… which is 8 months away. 🤷🏼♀️ 😂
Love crock pots! My daughter picked up one when she got married, at the local resale store. An orange one from the 70s that is the mate to my sister's crock pot. The one we used recently to make the velveeta dip on for the Buffalo Bills game. Still works!
Southwest or Fiesta Chicken. I think I would use the full 28 oz of tomatoes, all the tomato paste, more of all the spices & 3 cans worth of beans instead of 1. Would make it more filling, stretch it to more servings & lower the price per serving.
I don't get why recipes call for just less than what the container comes in. What's an extra 2 oz of tomato paste gonna do, or what would I do with the last 2 oz?
i made the' fiesta chicken" this evening . Used the masher - the one you use when browning ground beef. It worked great for shredding the chicken ! Yummy meal !
I love crockpot. I am working from home these days and the smell when you have food cooking in crockpot is wonderful. More crockpot meals. Enjoyed the video. Blessings
@@ForeverSmashley Have you used your instant pot as a crockpot? I have that function on mine, but I have to buy the lid. I just can't have a crockpot as my kitchen is very small (I already have an instant pot, air fryer, blender, juicer, waffle maker, snowshave maker, etc. and I just don't have any more space, lol)
My crockpot came from Goodwill several years ago and works perfectly. It doesn't have any bells and whistles either and I love it just the way it is. I like foods slow cooked like that because it gives food time to develop their full flavors. Yum!
We make the pot roast with a corn casserole, made out of whole kernel corn, cream corn and jiffy cornbread mix and they’re soooo good together. The sweetness of the corn casserole with the saltiness of the roast juice perfectly balance each other and it’s incredible
Make gulash, 2cans crushed tomatoes, 1@half lb brown hamburger 1lb box elbow macaroni sauteed onions bell pepper seasoning salt Italian seasoning, 1Tab spoon garlic, 1and half cup of water, 8 Oz sharp cheddar gradeded, 8 Oz Colby jack cook on low for 4hours serve with Texas toast with garlic butter and maybe a sprinkle of cheese on that roughly feed 12 people depending on the size of the kids
Agree with the dairy free and the southwest chicken! As for the dishes she showed in this video. A lot of the milk was used for the fat so subbing in coconut milk could be a good swap. For cheese, that’s harder but nutritional yeast could be an okay swap. Using a nice broth would also help to round out flavor as well.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for including a Crock-Pot mac-'n'-cheese recipe...been experimenting with pasta in there and failing miserably, but craving some of this so much...can't wait to try!!
Some of my favorite crockpot dinners are: Pulled pork (a pork loin, little water, and cook until it falls apart, then shred and add BBQ sauce), ribs (cut a rack of ribs, bought on sale, of course, into 1/3's so they fit in the crockpot, a little water, and cook until they pull away from the bone, then, transfer to a cookie sheet, slather in bbq, and finish in the oven on broil for 3-5 minutes), sweet-n-sour meatballs (frozen package of meatballs, 1 jar chili sauce, 1 jar grape jelly - sounds gross, but tastes GREAT! Serve over rice), lots of soups and chili. Crockpots are amazing!
For southwest flavors, (tex-mex), you need a bit more heat, like adding a jalapeño. I think 'Fiesta chicken' is perfect! Or even plain old Mexican Chicken.
I have 3 crock pots, one which is from the 70's tall cylinder shaped in dark yellow. 2 Instant Pots and Airfryer. Use crock pots the most. Blessings to whomever invented crock pots.
For the Crockpot Shredded Chicken, my sister and I have made that for years sans the cheese. We have always called it Fiesta Chicken. We make it in the oven, crockpot, or instant pot.
Based on the ingredients, seasonings and serving method, I think the simplest name change is just Southwest Chicken. I know that's a fairly common name but it just seems accurate & discriptive.
I have a very similar recipe called Southwest chicken that I’ve made for years. It’s a favorite in our house, even made it when friends came over once and found out he doesn’t typically like things to be all mixed together but he loved it. 😁 My recipe calls for a jar of salsa, so easy, no chopping veggies. I’ve even thrown in a can of rotel before. I usually serve with rice.
I made the pot roast a few weeks ago, my husband LOVED it!! It was so good! We had over mashed potatoes for our first dinner and I actually made quick Phillies with the rest of it for lunch on baguettes- also delicious!!
Finally a mac & cheese recipe without eggs. Definitely going to use this recipe. I bought a small crockpot from a thrift store & it's a little older. I agree the older ones are great. Thanks!!
I agree. The old Crockpots are best because they have a solid heavy glass lid which is best for keeping moisture within the pot. Make superb bone broth in one of these. Cook soup bones overnight on low. I pick up vintage crockpots for friends at thrift stores all the time. I've had mine for over 35 years.
We make that roast but we use brown gravy packet and ranch packet. And whenever we just put things together and we don’t really have a name we just call it “shipwreck “
I absolutely love the name “shipwreck”! May our family borrow it for generations to come? With due acknowledgment of your genius of course! We love puns, word play, and home made creative phrases. Life is tough, as it is for so many, and being grateful, thankful, with laughter is getting us through. Thank you “A Claus”, you will never know how much your comment brought into a stranger’s life.
Awesome recipes! I'm old school so I love my crock pot and not ready for an insta pot just yet. Anyway, I am going to try all of these recipes. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I have 17 crockpots 2 instapots & 2 turkey roasters (I used to cook for a church that had no kitchen 🤷♀️). My dil is pregnant with her first child so I’m happy to start cooking again ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have that same crockpot and love it! I got it years ago when my four boys were still young and it is the perfect size for a family of 6! Even if I had the choice of a fancier crockpot, I'd still use my old trusty one! Heck, tomorrow I plan on making ham & beans in mine! That chicken one is alll TexMex!! I'd call it something like TexMex Chicken, Taco chicken, Burrito chicken, or even Southwest Crockpot Chicken.
I bought a crock-pot at a yard sale for $6. I still use it, but here's the best part.....I bought it 41 years ago!! Now I have 4 different sizes & I use them all at some point throughout the year. Love me some crock-pots!!! :D
I love how you’re so quick with the info and high energy is contagious. I enjoyed the video and your energy. Thank you. I’ve always cooked in crock pot since I had to go to work. I also put meal together n go to bed It’s ready in morning. Next day’s meal
Your hair looks so lovely! I told my 5 yr old that I wanted to dye my hair red again and she told me ‘Mummy you are too old’. I am about to be 28 😬😂🤷🏻♀️
The first time i found a crock pot available in Spain for purchase wasnt too many years ago and it was only available at one of the most expensive stores here. I always watched youtube videos and crockpot videos, but could never get one...when i found it i bought it without nuch hesitation. It cost me 99€ or more if Im not mistaken. It has made some of my favorite meals for sure. Especially here we have to substitute many ready made canned items available in the U.S and they have to be made from scratch here. When i went back to the U.S for a visit I saw the same one as mine for 19$ at Walmart. But the majority of recipes I can feel closer to home with are healthy, a time saver...I love it!
I watched the video on 1.5 speed, she is already hilarious but that made me crack up even more through the video lol 😂 by the way good job with the meals
I do Chicken in A Pot. Layer chicken breast with italian dressing mix (envelope type) sprinkle and layer. Cook for 4 hours or so on high pull out chicken to shred add can if cream if mushroom or cream of chicken soup and a block of cream cheese. I usually let that soften for about an hour. Stir and add chicken back in. Heat for another hour and serve over spaghetti with bread and a salad. Taste alot like alfredo!
As for the beef, we just call it ‘Pot Roast’ and I use either beefy onion, onion or beef soup mix etc. and about a cup of liquid. I also add cut potatoes, carrots and whatever other veggie I’m feeling. Entire meal end of day and no knives needed 🤗
You wouldn't believe me if I said "I just received my new crockpot via Amazon, like now"... and "You posted this, like now"... very cool and this is too much of coincidence, trying your stuff 1st :P
I just made Mississippi pot roast over the weekend! It's absolutely a hit at my house. I used beefy onion soup mix powder (that's what I had) instead of Italian seasoning. It does make awesome sandwiches. I won't even use my crockpot without liners because now I'm too lazy and spoiled to wash it out. LOL
The chicken reminds me of a dish my mom used to make that she called 'salsa chicken'. Although she used a jar of salsa instead of tomatoes and chilies separate. 🤷♀️
Fiesta Chicken filling. I'd add tlbs of jalapeños juice, add avocado slices and maybe more juice for a soup, a squeeze of lime, 1 cup of pica w/ fresh cilantro 🌿
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 not necessarily because of the Hispanic population, just a bunch of ingredients commonly used in Tex-Mex/Southwestern cooking. Lots of black beans, tomatoes, corn, etc
The South African chicken is something I called Mexican goulash. I usually add red cabbage, zucchini, and a mix of different peppers, since it's a great dish to add lots of veggies. It's great as a soup, enchilada filling, topping on baked potatoes, or zoodles. All sorts of goodies. I've never shredded chicken with a wisk before, how fun! I have used my stand mixer but that creates a minced mushy texture. Love the hair!
Woohoo!! I’ve been looking for more “throw and go” recipes so dinner is ready when I get home from work! I’m a first year teacher and cooking after work is just not appealing to me lol.
Do you ever wing it and just chuck in stuff you've made up yourself, and see how it goes? My greatest fear in leaving something electric on and heating while I'm not home is fear of the house burning down or something catching alight. Has it never worried you?
Loving this hair.... how did I miss this time? Just saw your Friends oven mitts!!! JEALOUS, in a good way🤣. ❤️ your kindred spirit in Missouri, Kristy 😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The chicken is nothing like peri-peri chicken, so I agree this is not South African at all. My guess is that it was originally South American Chicken and somehow switched over the years as it absolutely has a lot of the ingredients that Americans associate with Latin American food. I humbly suggest Tex-Mex Slow Cooker Chicken or Mexi-Cali Slow Cooker Chicken.
Whoa.....and Thks. I use mine to make chick or beef broths mostly......so now I may return to utilize it for other goodies!!! Many thanks. I love your style!!! Ahna USA
My boyfriends aunt makes crockpot hot chocolate for christmas parties. Blew my mind. That way it stays hot and u dont have to make a ton of individual ones or keep and eye on a pot pot on the stove
Crock pot liners seem a good idea from a clean up perspective but they’re plastic and I don’t like using excess plastic if I can help it, so I will continue to wash up the pot and not use a liner... unless someone can confirm they’re recyclable? 🥴
Was about to comment the same thing! They are most likely not recyclable (and even then the majority of plastic doesn't actually get recycled yanno, look up the stats! REDUCE comes before RECYCLE) so should be avoided where possible. I just don't see the need for them? It's already a 1 pot dish... Just wash the pot!
UPDATED: I think cooking in plastic and/or nylon is just gross. So happy I have a newer crock pot that has the removable crock --- easier cleanup and works to use it with my oven if I ever feel the need for that.
I’ve tried it twice and was able to taste the plastic in the food both times. I dunno if it’s just the kind I used but 🤢 takes me like a minute to clean my crock pot but it is harder if the insert didn’t come out.
Ranch crockpot chicken is a good one too. Chicken, ranch packet, cream of chicken. Low for 6hrs. Use a mixer to shred. Serve on mashed potatoes with canned corn and drizzle gravy from the crockpot overtop. I usually serve this like a kfc bowl, mixed together. Super yummy, super cheap, and super easy to make. I usually make a ton of mashed potatoes in advance and freeze them to help save time
We loved goulash( macaroni with sauce) and we loved macaroni with tomatoes; with 7 kids we used 3 lbs mac and 3 small cans of tomatoes or 2-3 big cans tomatoes
Elbow macaroni - a big favorite in my house is "Spaghetti-mac". All you have to do is brown and drain a pound of ground beef, add a jar of sauce, a jar of water, a cup or two of macaroni, and then cook until the pasta is done to your liking. If the sauce dries up too much, just add more water.
An old lady at our church gave me and my husband one of the old olive crockpots with a glass lid (I'm sure it was used) as a wedding gift 14 years ago. It is still in excellent shape!

Been OTR for 7 years now, and the crock pot was a game changer! Bulk cook for the entire week on a 34 reset and toss the Tupperware in at the love's.
Do you just use a smaller 3 quart crockpot and keep the leftovers in an ice box?
I like South African chicken, but that might be because I'm South African lol. Tbh though there is nothing uniquely South African about that dish. As for a name, maybe Sunday chicken, as a nod to the South African 'seven colours' Sunday meal.
Yes, totally agree, as a fellow South African! Nothing about that is uniquely South African. :) (Like your name suggestion)
It looked so good :) whack some Mexican inspired spices in and it would be taco chicken 😂
Yes looks more mexican to me
Mb more southwest chicken. Its more mexican than african
I also thought it might be the colours. Here in Germany we have a popular cake called "Russian pinch cake", there's nothing Russian about it. 😄🙈 It's still delicious, though.
I love that you give options of sides. Sometimes when I cook I just don't know what to pair it with, so that is so helpful. Thank you
I’d call it Fiesta Chicken because it looks like it would be a party for your tastebuds.
I was going to suggest the same thing!
I was also going to say Fiesta chicken!
We make it here and call it southwest fiesta chicken. Put it on top of rice and top with more cheese and sour cream 🤤🤤🤤

Same idea

wow! Don't make em like that any more! 🙂
Built to last!
That is the best crockpot, heats hot and fast. Im so sad I gave mine away when kids got me the kind with removable crock.

Instapot is great in a rush bit honestly I think flavors combine so much better with a crock pot. Also you cam put it on and go about your day.

Crock pot meals are my favorite way to cook. Thanks.
Try the Mississippi roast with chicken, its amazing!!! And I use a packet of au jus instead of Italian seasoning, amazing!!!
I like to use elbow macaroni with diced tomatoes, ground beef and kielbasa sausage. Yum
You wouldn't believe me if I said "I just received my new crockpot via Amazon, like now"... and "You posted this, like now"... very cool and this is too much of coincidence, trying your stuff 1st :P
I have 2 of those Walmart crockpots and love them. With a busy life of family and work the crockpot is my go too. Wonderful tutorial...new subbie😁🤩
Are we not going to talk about the hair?! Omg I love it!!!
My Crock Pot is more than 30 years old. I love making chicken broth and letting it simmer on low for a couple days ~ so flavorful.
LOL
More plastic for the environment 👎
Love a good old crockpot. Thanks fore the recipes and more plz.
The chicken reminds me of a dish my mom used to make that she called 'salsa chicken'. Although she used a jar of salsa instead of tomatoes and chilies separate. 🤷♀️
Yeah, that’s basically salsa verde chicken. I was thinking that reminded me of something.
I think that would be a good idea or a south African chicken chili ?
Fiesta Chicken filling. I'd add tlbs of jalapeños juice, add avocado slices and maybe more juice for a soup, a squeeze of lime, 1 cup of pica w/ fresh cilantro 🌿
I'm south African and I've never seen that dish before. 😂
Me too😄..hello neighbour..🌼
Heh, must be the corner of the coast I was on.
It's so funny. I've been looking for new meal ideas and here you are using the exact crock pot I have!! This will be a breeze!
That looks like what we’ve always called Southwest Chicken to me.
South west? Like california? What's Hollywood about it?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634, California is considered West. Southwest is usually Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Lol.
Ohhhh ok lol, I'm an Aussie so a bit ignorant there lol.
Is the southwest a reference to the higher Hispanic population in those states?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 not necessarily because of the Hispanic population, just a bunch of ingredients commonly used in Tex-Mex/Southwestern cooking.
Lots of black beans, tomatoes, corn, etc
@Alejandra Ochoa
Ohhhh ok, that would explain Christine using beans so often in her cooking, being she's originally from Texas
The thing cooks all day?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 yes, so I prepare it in the morning and it cooks all day.
It's never burnt or overcooked in the eight hours or more you're gone? And how do you know how long it all needs?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 I’ve never had a problem with it being burnt or overcooked. I choose recipes that take 8 hours on low... low and slow
The chicken looks great, looks more like a mexican chicken or taco chicken.
That's exactly what I was thinking lol
Especially helped along by the options she gave for serving it hehehe
I was thinking south west chicken
Or chicken chili
I was thinking Tex-Mex.
I like "whisky" business chicken for the name!
I like how you put the tortellini soup into the liner. It makes it easier to just throw it straight into the bin
Just call it “The Artist Formally Known as South African Chicken”.
Thank you! All looks delish!
I just laughed so hard at this. Excellent name! 😂
Yes! 😂
I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!!! Enough said🥰🥰😁 You are a true inspiration to frugal awesomeness !
I vote for Cali Chicken bc it has black beans, but if they use pinto beans then it will be mexicali chicken.
Same with Americans calling a dish "goulash" which is nothing like Hungarian goulash.
Whoa.....and Thks. I use mine to make chick or beef broths mostly......so now I may return to utilize it for other goodies!!! Many thanks. I love your style!!! Ahna USA
I love using the liners, especially when I was recovering from having a baby. Last thing I wanted to do was scrub a crockpot.
I’ve made the tortellini soup for over 20 years. We love that one. We usually add some spinach to it as well
Haha We measure seasonings the same way!! “Eh, that looks good!” 😋😅
I agree I love my crockpots. I have a large, medium and small one.
Also South African here and that’s the first time I’ve even heard of that chicken 😂
Looks like Southwest American Chicken
I would call it fiesta chicken
My crock pot was a hand-me-down from my mom and I LOVE it! Still works great!
My boyfriends aunt makes crockpot hot chocolate for christmas parties. Blew my mind. That way it stays hot and u dont have to make a ton of individual ones or keep and eye on a pot pot on the stove
I agree. Crock pots are the bomb.
Spray the crockpot with cooking spray and it cleans way easier. I agree - skip the plastic bag!
The package says nylon, not plastic 🤗
Ranch crockpot chicken is a good one too. Chicken, ranch packet, cream of chicken. Low for 6hrs. Use a mixer to shred. Serve on mashed potatoes with canned corn and drizzle gravy from the crockpot overtop. I usually serve this like a kfc bowl, mixed together. Super yummy, super cheap, and super easy to make. I usually make a ton of mashed potatoes in advance and freeze them to help save time
Who raised their hand when she asked if we were excited about the Mac and cheese? ✋🏻
We loved goulash( macaroni with sauce) and we loved macaroni with tomatoes; with 7 kids we used 3 lbs mac and 3 small cans of tomatoes or 2-3 big cans tomatoes
I always have so much elbow pasta because that's the one ways seem to find on clearance 😂
